After a bridal salon completely botched my measurements, I wound up with a gown WAY too small and quite disproportionate to my body. I was a "budget bride" with a dress disaster. Nothing about it fit, especially since I am tall with a long torso, large bust, and small waist. I spent weeks searching for the right person to fix this mess. I only wanted the best and wow, I found it! Margo restructured my entire gown to perfection. She also handled some extra customizations for me, including joining together the deep plunge neckline (with perfectly matched lace!), removing the zipper back & adding a corset, and adding a bustle. The dress is two-toned multi-layered champagne/ivory lace with silver metallic threading and silver glitter throughout the layered tulle skirt. Margo's work was seamless (forgive the pun!) - it looked like the entire gown was made just for me. My dress was pretty to begin with, but it became a show-stopper! In addition to her incredible work, she is simply amazing to work with. She was so patient and helpful throughout all my emails, calls, and design finalizations. I had a blast at my dress fittings! Margo is so enjoyable to be around and always kept me smiling. Her sister helped me at my final fitting & pick up appointment - she is an absolute angel too! Also, their studio is gorgeous! Margot West Bridal deserves every ounce of praise I can possibly give. She and her team truly saved my wedding. I had taken my Nicole & Felicia gown to another alterations shop, and they completely ruined it. I had almost the exact experience that another reviewer (Maribel) had with Margot West. Margot charged me $280 to alter my wedding dress. When I picked it up, it was worse than before I came in the fIrst time. She wanted $400 more to fix the dress. I told her to forget it and I took the dress to another alteration lady to try to make the dress right. I tried to cancel the American Express charge but Margot disputed the claim by saying I had lost weight and that's why the dress didn't fit. The same claim she made with Maribel (another reviewer). My weight of 117 lbs has not changed in at least 40 yrs. It seems to be her go to excuse for totally botching alterations. I will fight this deceptive trade practice with whatever ever means it takes. My advice: Stay away from thIs alteration fraud at all costs. Her prices are ridiculously high and her work is extremely inferior. After hearing my side of the story and receiving documentation from the tailor that had to fix the problems Margo caused, American Express credited my account the charges for the bridal dress. This place is excellent!! My friend is getting married in Las Vegas and all of the bridesmaids live all over the country. Once we received our dresses, I knew I would need alterations. I was a little worried that nobody would be able to fix it and make it comfortable and if they could, then I would have to pay a lot of money. I searched Yelp for reviews on bridal alteration places and could not find something that was near me with good reviews. I came upon Margo West, even though there weren't any reviews and decided to give them a call. I was able to get an appointment right away and when I went it, it was just me. There weren't other customers there to compete with. There were two ladies, one is Margo and I apologize, but I forgot the other lady's name. Anyways, I put on my dress and told them what I need, they did their measurements and said I could change. I changed back into my regular clothes and they looked at the dress and were so quick and confident on making the changes that I need. It was great! I thought they would need to do a ton of work, but they showed me the small changes they would need to make and that's it! Also, the total for my alterations was about $40, which is a lot less then I expected to pay. The ladies asked me when the wedding was and told them and they had it ready a week before it was time to go. They said if it needs changing that week, they can do it right away, but it should be okay. When I picked it up, I tried it on and it fit perfectly! It was comfortable, I could breath and it looked good. I was so happy to have found a great bridal alterations place. If only they did other alterations, I would be even happier!!! I would never wish this experience on my worst enemy. I took my wedding dress in to be altered 2 months ago. They had my dress for 2 months. I paid upfront for a bustle, sew in bra cups, and a gap in the side to be taken in by not even an inch. *note- the dress fit me snugly when I dropped it off* Every time I went for a fitting, the dress kept getting smaller and smaller. I couldn't quite figure it out, considering I had lost 4 pounds since my first visit and I only needed half an inch taken in. At my 4th and final fitting, the dress was WAY too tight. They had to get 2 people to zip it up and I could barely breathe. Now just imagine in your mind the FAT OVERHANG I had in the back. You know, where it looks like a giant butt crack on your back? Yep. Even for super skinny people, there's no way around it when a dress is that tight. When I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted. Horrified. She kept saying 'wow what a beautiful dress'....um- WHAT? obviously she knew this was a problem. When I asked her about the back, she said she couldn't take it out anymore (not sure why since this dress fit around me when I took it there in the first place and i didn't need any HUGE alterations done ) then, she told me to WORK OUT and do pull ups so I could fit into it. Are you f*#+%^ KIDDING ME?!?? That is the VERY LAST THING on the planet to say to someone getting married in 2 WEEKS!! I took my dress to get tailored to ME. Not for me to tailor myself to YOUR alterations. I am very easygoing, not picky AT ALL. But this...This is completely unacceptable. After that statement, I took it home. Brought it inside and checked it out, there was STILL NO BUSTLE! One safety pin in the back and nothing else. (See pictures) also a button was missing. Due date which was Oct 3rd and we "picked up" unfinished dress Oct 25th and they wanted to give her the dress oct 28th after bride was leaving for her wedding the 27th. Refused to finish dress and said that according to first meeting notes dress was done. However, bride had over 7 fittings to discuss what bride really wanted for her dress, which was agreed to by dress maker with no discussion of extra time or cost. The only thing that couldn't be controlled is that our lace hadn't shipped until Oct 13th. Had to take dress to an emergency dress maker to get finished. I was referred to Margo by the folks at Anonymously Yours when I purchased my dress last year. Not really knowing much about the process, I called around October or November of last year and asked that the normal time frame was for taking my dress in for alterations and was given a general timeline. I ended up taking the dress over to Margo's Deep Ellum shop around the end of January, beginning of February 2015, and had the dress back in my hands 9 weeks later--do plan ahead, especially if your dress is intricate. After one measurement session, she was able to accurately alter the dress and added a bustle that was quite handy during the reception part of the afternoon. I recently worked with Margo West Bridal Alterations for my wedding veil and dress. I put a lot of time into researching who I was going to trust with such an important job! I bought my dress at local well-known bridal shop. They, of course, tried to get me to use their in-house alterations person, who I did meet with, but got the impression that she was in a rush and that my dress would be just one of many that she was trying to turn around during a busy bridal season. I took my dress and veil into Margo West for an estimate. They were happy to offer me an estimate, and to be honest, the prices were very comparable to other estimates I received. The difference in my experience here and why I chose Margo West is that ALL they do are wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and veils. They spent their time with me, they are experts in what they do, and made me feel like they really appreciated and wanted my business. I was always the only bride in the store (which I'm sure isn't always the case) and really appreciated this personalized experience. My wedding was the day after my parents 40th wedding anniversary, so I wanted to wear my mom's wedding veil. Her veil in its original state was not my style, so Margo reconstructed it for me and it turned out amazing. My dress required a hem alteration, which was more complex than a typical hem because of the multiple lace layers and scalloped edging, and it turned out fantastic! I have read other reviewers that had almost identical experiences like mine during Winter 2020 and in other previous years. Please read and be informed. This is nothing against Margo herself, but more about her practice and the experience I had, which is why I want to leave for other brides to read. The first fitting I was charged $880.69 for a ball gown bustle and bringing in the waist and bust from a size 6 to a size 2. Come to find, this is extremely overpriced compared to other seamstresses in the DFW area. Red flag #1. I went back a week later because I found shoes that were shorter and therefore I would be needing a hem. I was charged $270.63 for the hem. I understand that hems are one of the hardest parts of a dress, but this seems still ridiculously overpriced...red flag #2. Over $1000 for dress alterations seems extreme, especially since it was not a very intricate dress (no beading or lace), but I just thought this was Dallas prices and it's really not a big deal. Finally I got a hold of Margo and I went in for my, now, third fitting. The dress could not/did not zip (the waist was too small) but yet the cups of the dress were 1 inch off my body (still too big) AKA IT DID NOT FIT ME. Margo proceeded to say it could have been my "quarantine" weight gain, birth control pills causing my breasts to gain in size, or just generally my body's fault. If my bust grew why was it still gaping in the cups? Never once did she take even the slightest blame. Meanwhile I had not gained weight, all of my clothes, bras, etc fit exactly the same. Red flag #3. She then suggests for me to take it home for a month, see if I lose the weight or my body "changes" and come back 18 days before my wedding and "we'll see what we need to do then". SO I am taking home a dress that 100% does NOT fit me, in the middle of a pandemic, and mentally thinking I need to lose weight or something is wrong my body me. Why not just fix it then? Red flag #4. I felt incredibly uneasy and asked to come in earlier than planned and it of course still does not fit. She states that she will need to completely start over due to me (and once again, NOT HER). She then charges me $443 just to bring it back out to the original size 6 and that there will be MORE charges after the $443 to make it fit to me. I refused to pay this and state that it can't just be my body that is at fault. Margo takes me to the back to prove that her stitching was correct and that she did everything she was supposed to do. I leave without paying. I was angry and beyond stressed because we could not afford to basically do a complete do over with alterations making this a total over $2000. We decided it would just be cheaper to find another dress so I went dress shopping round 2, found another dress and took it to another seamstress in Dallas (Annette with Best Fit Alterations) who charged me $150 and did wonderfully! This still did not even come close to covering the emotional stress she caused me. A girl is supposed to feel beautiful and confident in their wedding dress, if not the most beautiful they have ever felt and that is not what I felt in that dress. The experience with Margo made me feel ugly, weight conscientious, and the opposite of beautiful in my gown that I originally felt stunning in when I first tried it on. This was all on top of replanning a wedding in the midst of a pandemic and Margo had the opportunity to make my dress the one thing that was constant among the change and chaos and she 100% did not do that. Instead, she kept over charging and making me feel worse in my dress, to the point I had to get a new one. I would not suggest going to this business and I just wish I had read a review to avoid this situation on such an important part of the wedding day and whole wedding process. read more

Like most brides, it's tough to trust such an expensive gown to an unknown tailor. I googled the best/top bridal alterations in DFW and got this place. After reading reviews, I decided to try her out. I dealt a lot more with Lisa (Margo's sister), than Margo. Lisa was very courteous and tried to be relatable. I needed 2 gowns altered. Bridal gown just needed to have the bust taken in. 2nd gown needed to be hemmed up and fitted at the bust area as well. My first dress fitting, my bridal gown was tightened rather snugly and the 2nd gown did NOT have any alterations completed on it. I noticed during this time that the corset on my dress was protruding and asked if anything could be done. Margo safety-pinned this and said that they could cut it and the line should disappear. At the second dress fitting, the bridal gown remained unchanged. Margo claimed that she did not know what the safety-pin on the corset was for and said that she could not guarantee a good result on the wedding dress if she had to cut the corset ribs. My 2nd dress was completely altered (even though at the first dress fitting, they stated that the dress would not be cut until my final shoes were selected). Needless to say, I took both my dresses home that day. I ended up having to find a different alterations lady, who found out Margo messed up the seams on the back of my wedding gown and had stitched some things that should not have been stitched (at first it looked like my dress had been accidentally cut at the hip and sewn together). I came here because of the amazing reviews on yelp and also because a blogger I followed recommended them since she got her alterations here. First let me start with saying that everyone there is really friendly and they do a decent job however the prices are way more than for example going to the tailor at whatchamacallit where I got a much lower quote and I wish I had gone to instead of here and just taken a chance. I was charged 700 dollars (not including steaming the dress which was 150$ more) to take my dress in in various spots however my dress did not fit me how I wanted it to after my first fitting. When I pointed out what I thought needed to be fixed they said that they had done it perfectly but that I had lost weight and that's why it didn't fit right and wanted to charge me an additional cost of 200$ for something that should have been done the first time. Be aware that they will weigh you so make sure you eat exactly what you ate the day they measured you and the day you pick up. Unfortunately for me I had gone out to lunch right before my first appointment and when I went to try on my dress for my first fitting I didn't so they said I had lost weight which I definitely hadn't because I wanted my dress to fit perfectly as they had measured so I made sure to monitor my weight. Anyways they finally agreed to "fix" it at no additional cost and it would take one more week however they didn't. I believe they just said they would to shut me up and hoped I wouldn't notice. However, when I went the second time to try it on it was still big in the same parts I had pointed out the last time but they said they did fix it and I looked "'much better" well I just wasn't in the mood to fight five days before my wedding so I signed for it and left but am I happy with how I looked on my wedding day no definitely not. My dress bunched up at my hips and was too big and definitely didn't look right in all my pictures. It's sad that in an industry that is so important for a moment in our lives they could just not care about helping us look our best. I'm truly saddened by this experience because I only plan on getting married once so I won't have a "second chance" to redo my wedding/pictures. If you're willing to spend a lot of money (and potentially get charged even more than you were originally quoted for "losing weight" when you didn't) to feel just ok with how you look on your wedding day then go here otherwise I'd say try your luck elsewhere. read more

I am unbelievably disappointed with my alterations from Margot's bridal. Somehow the most expensive dress I will ever purchase ended up fitting me worse than any other dress I own. I started with the Maggie Sottero Shayla dress in a size 10 (for reference, I wear a size 4 in real life sizes). I'd tried on the size 16 when I was shopping for dresses and had been happy with how it looked when pulled in. When I met with Margot we discussed shortening the dress, bringing in the waist, and shortening the boning down the sides. I also mentioned that I was not going to wear a bra with the dress. Somehow I ended up with a dress with MASSIVE padding, I'm talking inches in the bust. I'm a C/D cup to start off with and didn't need or want any padding. When I went to pick up the dress, I asked Margot how I could remove the padding since I didn't want it and hadn't asked for it. She told me that the form of the dress needed it. I wore the dress with the padding and literally looked like an ogre. The unwanted padding was only the first problem with the dress. The sleeves fell down all night; during the ceremony, reception, dinner, everything. To make matters worse, there were thin straps beneath the cap sleeves that also fell down but at different levels since they weren't attached to the cap sleeves, making me look frumpy. Additionally, it appears that shortening the boning was a mistake and ended up augmenting my middle. Girls dream of looking beautiful in their wedding dresses, and I ended up look fat and frumpy. So so sad. And it turns out that looking terrible wasn't cheap. I'd wanted to keep costs down and had been happy to find a dress for under $1,100. Margot's alterations were $575--more than half the cost of the dress! For anyone looking at wedding dresses and alterations I strongly recommend getting a normal sized dress from a place like J Crew that doesn't require drastic alterations. I really wish that I was able to leave a positive review; my dress just ended up looking too horrible. read more

Came in for a quote on a slight hem on an outer layer of lace and a bustle. I arrived at the Deep Ellum location and freaked out a bit when the door was locked. I knocked and waited then chose to call the number on the site but luckily someone opened the door. I was told a lady would be right with me. I waited a few minutes and was helped by a younger woman. Her attitude was horrible from the beginning. On my way in, the hanger broke for my dress. I asked if she had an extra hanger I could have and she looked at me like I was crazy and said she doubted they had any extra hangers. I was literally turned off after that but I still gave them a try. Anything I asked or said was literally a joke to them. I asked if they could adjust the length I needed from the waist instead of hemming from the bottom (which would require beading work), they both laughed at me, Margo and her assistant. Margo literally looked at my dress, without touching it and quoted me $300 for the bustle and 2 inches off one layer of my dress in the front. I immediately got dressed and left. It wasn't for me, they seemed too busy to care about a new customer coming through the door and their customer service skills were horrible! I called Margo in June to ask about tailoring services for my wedding in October. She said it was too early, that she wouldn't do it in case I gained or lost weight (despite the fact that I told her I've been the same weight since sophomore year of high school. She told me to go back in early August. I went back on August 5, and she told me she was too busy to take me as a client. No apology or accommodation. I very much DO NOT recommend using her. She's not particularly interested in her client's descriptions or needs. read more

They Ridiculously Overcharge on Alterations! $966 is what she was looking to charge me, I got my dress and took it to another Alterations more than 2x cheaper. Went to Margo West Bridal Alterations to have my wedding dress hemmed and a bustle sewn in. She was amazingly professional, helpful and fun! My dress had a lot of ruching and intricate bead work and she did a wonderful job on it. I absolutely recommend seeing Margo if you want your dress altered right! read more
