Sales reps knock three times ring the bell despite the NO SOLICITING sign - pushy and rude

Just had my first service from Alterra Pest Control. I was very impressed by the professionalism of my Service Pro, Gregory. He told me about pest situations in my neighborhood, explained the threat landscape, showed me pictures and took me around the house to show me where I had spider issues. The Alterra guys really took care of me from scheduling (through a referral from a friend!) and being present on time at the scheduled initial visit. Chris Merino handled everything on the large property, spraying and granulating the outside and brushing the home to clean up all the webs. I appreciated getting some tips to how to maintain the house so that I can have better control of the pests, as I was told the plants are a favorite home to many pests (ivy, oaks, vines, etc). Ahmed S. Chandler & Danny came in and did a great job. Danny had already started on my backyard when Chandler knocked on the door to introduce himself. He walked me through the terms and were on their way. They cleaned the outside of the house, the backyard, the garage, and the inside very quickly. They also assured me if I'm not satisfied or still seeing issues that I should just give them a call and they'll come out for free. Nice job overall. read more

I don't open our doors to salespeople but by mistake i opened and a guy named Garrett was at my door. He introduced himself from alterra and i told him to Come back at a later time so he can talk to my husband. We had a service from another pest control company which just ended (but since they raised their prices and poor customer service) we decided to try alterra since garrett gave a really good sales pitch. We had our first service today and we are so impressed with luis and chris. They were respectful, courteous and accomodating. Unbelievable!!!!! I called them on a Sunday with an emergency at home - found a bug on our guest bed - and they were the only ones that picked up. Good job. The woman assured me that someone would come out by 7am on Monday. When they weren't here on time, I thought to call to confirm. They had my appointment for FIVE DAYS FROM NOW. To top it off, once I voiced my frustration, THEY HUNG UP ON ME. I called back only to be put on hold for over 5 minutes, for them to tell me they can't come today. This is the second time my Alterra service guy (Joel) came to the door to make sure I hadn't had any problem areas, explain the extra services for the summer they would be performing, and reminding me I can call any time in between services (which I've taken them up on before and they come out quickly with no questions asked). I have used Orkin and Terminex and a few other full service exterminators for my home pest issues. They do the job just fine. Alterra will do the same job as the larger more well known exterminators, only they will do it for a fraction of the cost. They will also be there on time, They will do the job with a good attitude. They will complete the job quickly and quietly with no interruptions. I have recommended them to all my friends and now to the rest of you! We've been with Altera for over a year now and overall, we've been pretty pleased with their service. We're on the quarterly plan so they automatically come out every 3 months but if any problems arise in between the scheduled service visits, they will gladly come out again at no charge. It really helps if you are home when they come by and point out exactly what areas they should really pay attention to. Otherwise, they will just do a basic perimeter spray. The only times that we have been dissatisfied with them were times that I was not home to show him the guy the problem areas. On those occasions however, we just called them and they came out and resprayed again at no cost. Recently my neighbor was looking for a new exterminator and asked what I was paying. I couldn't find a statement so I called them to ask. The guy I spoke with, Mario, was so nice and helpful. He looked at my account and saw that I was eligible for a "loyal customer" rate reduction since I had been with them over a year and he reduced my quarterly rate by $20, plus he gave me a substantial referral bonus for referring my neighbor. Alterra is setting the bar high in customer service for pest control companies. They have good, friendly people working for them and they go above and beyond to make their customers happy. What more can you ask for? read more

Update: Alterra sold all their accounts to Terminix. It's not the same company. Communication is sketchy. It's true that Alterra is the only pest control company I have ever dealt with, but I am satisfied with the quality of service and the friendliness of their service pros. Our latest pro, Brenden G., continued the tradition we experienced at our previous residence (where Alterra helped us FINALLY solve a horrible German cockroach problem) of service pros smilingly putting up with my preschool aged daughter following them around and asking what they're doing. Also, after moving into our current home we were without pest services for the first 6 months and this spring the place was absolutely CRAWLING with insects: moths, ants, silverfish, spiders, flies, gnats, caterpillars, pill bugs, etc. We enjoyed the natural ecology for a while, but it started to bug my little kids (pun intended) and now that we once again started working with Alterra things have calmed down significantly. I don't hear nearly the amount of "mommy! there's a bug!" yells that I used to. read more

Quick Review: Avoid this headache & run far away from Alterra! Detailed Review: We've been an Alterra customers for a while now and for the past few years we haven't had much of a problem. Usually we don't have to call, they tend to show up once every three months at some random time. Every once in a while, they'd miss a quarter, but calling would rectify that and Alterra would send someone directly out. If a repeat spraying was needed, they would take care of that pretty promptly. With 2016, that service changed (possibly due to the merger with Terminix). We haven't seen or heard much from Alterra. Calling is an exercise in futility and no matter what time you call during normal business hours, it goes straight to voicemail. The rare times you get a call back, the scheduled appointment is missed. Now with this latest heatwave, the pest problem is insane and a blind eye can't be turned any longer. As a last effort, I sent out tweets to both Alterra & Terminix. Terminix answered with a contact email. Once a day they've sent an email, but after a week there still hasn't been anyone sent out. Today I discovered Alterra's Facebook page where they seem to reply pretty quickly to other frustrated customers. I've made a comment there, but I've had my fill of trying to rectify this relationship. We are now looking into another pest control company and cutting all ties with Alterra/Terminix. I'd suggest you avoid this train wreck at all costs. read more

DON'T SIGN UP!!! WASTE OF MONEY AND YOU'LL BE SORRY! I agree with the other reviewer, I feel so stupid getting into a contract for a year! We cancelled after the 3rd visit, it doesn't work, we still have spiders and ants. AND now we have to pay for the "discounted" first visit so it's costing us way too much money to get out of this contract, paying for something that didn't work. They were horrible about getting an appointment scheduled, very poor customer service. All I can say is don't waste your money. I'm sorry we did! read more

We had been having a number of issues with insects on our property, and secured an agreement with Alterra this week. We began our Alterra service today, and I was very pleased with the professional attitude and work ethic of Michael Rateau of Branch #106 who was the on-site technician. He was not only thorough, but also gave us information as to why he was going to take certain action. The gentleman who negotiated the service, Thomas Rudd, was also extremely professional and customer service oriented. Very friendly, he explained everything about their product and process for insect control. He performed overhang wasp inspection (found one), de webbed the eves (even under the patio furniture) and did a yard inspection. The yard inspection showed signs of aphids, which he treated. I think this is one of the only times I have ever bought something from someone who knocked on my door other than girl scouts or anyone selling candy. I had a pest problem so I said might as well do it. It's definitely affordable and most importantly IT WORKS. The guy came by on a Saturday to clear up all the spider webs and sprayed around the house to get rid of the bugs. He also set up 8-10 rat traps in the attic and garage to get rid of the rats, which is working. There's definitely still 1 or 2 up there, but it's a definite improvement then the minor infestation we had. Also after reading some of the reviews about this company I decided to go look around my neighborhood for the infamous rejection X's you've all been seeing, I've seen none of them. I'm pretty they would be smart enough to not do anything illegal, maybe they've just recently stopped it. Great Company. read more

I was extremely disappointed by Alterra's service. They showed up without contacting me first so I wasn't home and charged me full price even when they could not go into the back yard and spray because of my dog. I insisted on being there next time, and the guy spraying took about 5 minutes, NO digging deep for bugs just service spraying and was done. Very POOR job!!! I could have done a much more thorough job just doing it myself and saved a lot of money. I will Never use them again!! Poor service , non-reliable, noneffective , and expensive. read more

This is my first ever 1-star review and it goes to none other than Alterra-turned-Terminex. Before Terminex bought Alterra, I would have given them 4 or even 5 stars for both stellar responsiveness and effective spraying. The acquisition by Terminex has plummeted their customer service. I can't even keep up anymore how many times I've called. I called at least 3-4 times last week requesting a call back from the local branch regarding our service and unreliable the spraying is. No one has yet to call me back. I called this morning once again requesting another call back from a local service manager and well, let's just say my expectations at this point are quite low. All calls now get routed to some call center where "operators" don't know much if anything. For example, I asked if Terminex was spraying the same natural solution Alterra was using and guy had no clue. I don't wish ill upon a business, but if Terminex doesn't get their act together, their acquisition of Alterra will result in actual LOSS of customers... read more

After 4 pm so I called to find out why no one has come by today, the day of my next scheduled appointment. Was just told by Mario that "After 1 pm" means anytime between 1 pm and sunset. I don't know how to respond to that statement. Where do you even begin a discussion on how wrong that is? And *When* did this change occur? My last two visits have both been in a two hour window. I assumed the same for this visit. My bad for assuming, I guess. So now, instead of doing the work and running the chores that I NEED TO BE DOING, I've been twiddling my thumbs all afternoon! The implication that an entire half a day of my time is worthless is not a good way to show respect for your customers. On the plus side, the Tech seemed cheerful and competent. read more
