He was very professional, explained everything thoroughly about the billing and all was as I recollected from the initial sales call. I have had Alterra for about a year or so. I don't have many pests in the yard anymore, so that's the basic reason I have a pest control company - objective achieved. It costs about a dollar a day, which is probably a little steep ($30+ per month). I was told that I would get the same technician every time, and that simply is not the case. Also, I have told them on more than one occasion that my gate, which is always closed, needs to be closed when they leave my property. One of their sales people just came to my door and I informed him that I currently don't have a bug problem and that I already had an exterminator for when I do. He made a good sized X on the sidewalk in front of my house with a permanent marker. That's called vandalism. Had our first service today for ants. I was really impressed when the service guy, Brian, showed up with booties to cover his shoes when he walked into my house. Most companies would just come in with their shoes on, but this was very considerate! He was friendly and explained the whole contract to me. Can't notice too much of a difference after just the first service, but they seem to know what they're doing! read more

Really impressed with Alterra Pest and my service pro Jerry Mackey. He was very thorough with the process and even went above and beyond and cleaned my child's playset. Saw him throughout the process and looked like he got every nook and cranny. Unlike most pest control companies who only spray a perimeter around the house, Jerry seemed to in and out of every spot that might be a possible threat. I really liked the way that Alterra conducts itself. I was approached by a sales rep walking through my neighborhood. He took the time to explain the services in great detail. Ryan came out and did our first service. He removed a ton of spider webs from the eves and even around my deck. He also removed 11 wasp nests and it's been a few weeks and they didn't return. I have wanted to spray for spiders and other insects for a long time but we have a lot of animals and I was afraid that they would consume something that would be hazardous. I was pleased to learn that Alterra used a chrysanthemum based pesticide that is safe around animals. Think they are super reasonable for the service that they perform. On Thursday, I tried calling them from work, of course no one picked up the phone, so I left them a message asking them to please contact me. Today is Saturday and still no call. An Alterra salesperson just showed up to my door and told me that several people on our street had just signed up for their service. I told him that we had a pest control service for over 20+ years and were quite happy, but that didn't deter him. I repeated it and he then opened up a box and tried to prove he's gotten business today by showing me a bunch of slips of paper. What those slips were I have no idea. I kindly asked the young man for a business card, but he said, and I quote, "we're not doing that today." We're not doing that today? An odd response if I do say so. My advice to those who wish to heed it is simply say you don't do business with door-to-door solicitors, period, regardless of what company they represent. Any reputable company will have a website on which you can glean as much information as possible and, if it sounds good enough to warrant a call, then go ahead. read more

If I was thinking about becoming an Alterra customer, the salesman who knocked on my door this evening convinced me to never become one. It was after 8 PM and I was trying to corral my children to get them in bed. I told him "no thank you" and that "I take care of my own pest control" and he continued to talk over me. He said "you have to do something" and attempted to convince me that I should listen to him by declaring "you're smart". It was obnoxious and insulting. I am giving this company two stars as a courtesy. It is unfortunate I will never know if they provide quality pest control services. read more

I feel so stupid for entering into a long-term contract with Alterra. It's been nearly a year and I can't wait to end this charade. The positives: the young men sent to my home were quite nice. But that's it. There hasn't been a day in the last year without ants; while when it was very cold in December & January, there weren't many, they've never been eradicated. They might be good for people who don't actually have to work for a living, but I'm extremely frustrated trying to schedule a time for them to return. Today I have one rare weekday off, and I'm sitting at home rather than getting my squeaky brakes checked because the robot called at 4:57 pm last night, saying that they'll be here today between 8 am and 6 pm (and I can call for more info, but no one is answering! Can't remember last time I got a human on the phone!) They won't come in if I'm not here (I tried leaving a note once when I had waited for several hours but had to go run & pick up my kid from childcare. Gone 15 minutes & they, of course, were here & gone in that time). If I cannot serve as a good example, then I can be your cautionary tale. Maybe they will work for you if you have ample free time to sit around & wait for them. But I have my doubts. I've done so several times & the ants are winning big time. read more

Teach your door-to-door sales people some manners & what a "No Soliciting" sign means! When I opened the door, your guy was so busy texting, he didn't even know I'd opened the door. Then I had to say "hello" rather loudly, then wait for him to finish texting before he acknowledged my presence.
