New Year's Eve party at Uptown

My husband and I spent NYE evening at Uptown and we had a blast! Great food and drinks, friendly service, fun music, and they added a complimentary Photo Booth. Uptown is conveniently located in downtown Plainfield, and it's one of those easy, familiar places for a quick bite to eat or for meeting up with local friends. I highly recommend!

Fish tacos.. they're good. Get 'em.

I dig this place. Food is surprisingly very good for a bar! Drinks are reasonably priced and they have live bands (versus the dead ones) every week. My band recently played there, and from our perspective, the stage area is incredibly small. So small in fact that I've considered redesigning the layout of the restaurant on a drink napkin nearly every time I've been there. It does make it challenging to play there though - hard to hear what you're playing from up there. Other than that, it's great! And we will be back again and again. Hopefully they can make some minor changes that might improve the stage and live music experience!

    Naughty Paloma - YUM!

Came here to try some cocktails & sit on their outdoor patio on a nice day. The patio is right by the street so it is a little busy but I really didn't mind. Our server was so sweet and attentive! So that was great. I really wanted to try out some of their cocktails so I ordered a few: Pink lady, Crop top, the naughty Paloma. My least favorite was the crop top. It was cute because they mix it with edible glitter but the flavors just tasted off and oddly sweet in an artificial way. However the naughty Paloma was DELICIOUS. Pink lady was just okay. My husband and I ordered the shrimp Tampico & the firecracker cauliflower. Both were alright. The shrimp dish was very salty and while the cauliflower was super crispy, the sauce was way too sweet and didn't have much heat. Didn't really live up to the "firecracker" name. They did have happy hour all day though with half price appetizers which was nice! It's a good place to meet up with friends but the food won't blow you away.

I lost my wallet there (pretty sure it was in Uptown). Had to reorder my ID, and all the cards.

After going up to the bar for a drink I was told by the blonde bartender that I will not be "served" because I have a waiter.

I have eaten here 3 times in the last 6 months and have not had a bad meal yet. More importantly the owner and staff have gone above and beyond every time. I ordered the special, Chilean Sea Bass, during Lent. The owner was not happy with the portion size that came out. That's right, the owner, not me. He was so nice about it and made it a point to make it right. The meatball appetizer is amazing!!!! Great food, great service, and great atmosphere!!!!

We started with the fried calamari app and it was really good. Fried perfectly, but it did need a hit of salt. Served with cocktail sauce (marinara would be nice too). Love that they also include the tentacles I along with rings. Entrees: wife ordered the Linguini Del Mare. Seafood was properly cooked and flavor was great. She really enjoyed it. I ordered the Pork Chop Milanese and is was really good. One thing that stands out here is that the portions are huge! Appetizers and Entrees and the house salad that they serve. We were only able to eat about half of our meals after the huge appetizer and salad and ended up taking the leftovers home with us. Service was great as well. We will certainly come back here again if we're in the area and in the mood for Italian food. We recommend La Dolce Vita Per Tutti.

Getting a couple spots to sit was also easy. Getting and keeping anyone's attention was not as easy. It was a busy-ish Trivia Tuesday and they seemed to be well staffed but both people behind the bar that we tried to make contact with breezed past us a lot. Despite that, we did eventually try the $5 margaritas which packed a nice punch. We also went with a pepperoni wrapped and deep fried cheese stick. Clearly not a premade product from somewhere else...the sauce was great while the cheese stick lacked pepperoni flavor even though we clearly saw some in there. It was more boring flavor wise than expected but a really great concept! Our Foo pizza was ordered without the cilantro but also arrived without the jalapeños. Again, another great concept but this one lacked on the execution side of things. Not enough BBQ sauce at all (I'm not a huge sauce girl, but this was way too light), soooo many fried onion strings clumped together (and I love fried onions...soooo), missing the spicy component in error.... But the crust was great and cooked nicely, the pulled pork was delicious when you found a bite, the bacon cooked perfectly and the pineapple portion was good. Why four stars instead of three? Clearly they're using quality ingredients. This is huge to me! Restaurant felt, looked and smelled clean. Conceptually they've got some awesome menu items that make me want to come back and we already mentioned to friends of ours. And the drinks were solid. We will take a different approach next time and hopefully add this one to the rotation.

Dark beadboard walls, copper ceiling tiles, round orb lighting, and upstairs a cavernous space with soaring ceilings anchored by a stunning skylight. It is genuinely one of the most beautiful dining rooms in the area. Date night approved. One gripe before we get to the good stuff: if you have pages and pages of creative cocktails and an extensive wine list, your two mocktail options deserve the same love. We don't drink and the options were fine but very sour and clearly an afterthought. Do better for the sober and sober curious crowd. Now the food. The burrata was creamy, rich, and gorgeous sitting in olive oil topped with chimichurri and grilled bread. Needed more balsamic to bring the acid balance home, but honestly still one of the better burratas I've had locally. The stuffed pork with gouda, chimichurri, and saffron potato wedges was a genuinely smart plate. The saffron wedges were a surprise standout, bringing a clean earthiness that cut through the richness beautifully. A touch heavy on the gouda and the whole dish woke up considerably with a little extra salt, but the bones of it are excellent. The churrasco hanger steak told the same story. Well cooked, flavorful, chimichurri doing its job. The curly fries were the one shrug of the night. Not bad, just boring next to everything else on offer. Mike our server closed the deal by steering us toward the caramel skillet cookie and honestly, bless him for it. Warm, salty, sweet, rich, topped with cold vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. It is everything a skillet cookie should be and we scraped the pan. We are already planning the return visit and bringing friends. Barrel & Vine is an unexpected dining experience that Plainfield is lucky to have.
