Alvarez has a good affordable food. Highly recommended. This is actually their second store. It actually a good restaurant even they have second store. Many restaurant has second restaurant will not be able to keep up on the second place. I hope they continue to strive for the best for both store. I got the steak quesadilla. Normally they don't serve steak quesadilla, they only serve ground beef quesadilla. Because of my request, they make a special steak quesadilla from chop steak. It was quite good. The other dish is ground beef burrito. It is fat burrito and big enough for hungry person. The last dish is the Plátanos Rellenos. It use sweet plantain as base. After reading about Alvarez in the Tampa Bay Times, this place had been on my radar for a little while. And when I finally got the chance to try them, I wondered what had taken me so long! Everything is fresh and authentic, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I haven't seen too many places with sopes (a thick corn tortilla with meat, queso fresco, crema and lettuce), so as soon as I saw them on the menu, I knew I had to try them. They are about the size of your palm, and are absolutely delicious! I ordered mine with ground beef (sans beans), and couldn't believe how good they were -- especially since they're just $2 each! I've gone several times now and have ordered a variety of items on the menu, although I do have to always get at least one sope. The gorditas are quite good (a sandwich in a tortilla-type pocket, similar to pita bread, that's crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside), as are the flautas. The beef and cheese empanadas are yummy too -- and you get 3 of them for $5 (they aren't very heavily filled though, so they're good as an appetizer but maybe not as a meal). Their elote is delicious too, and I'm definitely a fan of their maduros. Really, you can't go wrong ordering from here. They are on the delivery sites like Uber Eats and Grub Hub, but remember that those third-party sites all take a significant chunk of the restaurant's money... so if you're able to, order directly from them instead. read more

I've been sleeping on this restaurant for far too long. I came here one morning after a busy shift from work and it was the best decision I made. First of all it's a small restaurant in the corner of a small plaza. Went inside and it was empty. I ordered a steak breakfast burrito and a watermelon fresca. I'm telling you that burrito was well worth it. It was so feeling and so delicious. The watermelon drink was very refreshing as well and sweet. So fresh. I definitely recommend this place to try out. The price for it all was very good. As I'm writing this at work, I'm definitely going back again tomorrow morning lol read more

After my experience here, I'm feeling a little torn between what to rate this experience. I ordered through DoorDash, nothing relating to temperature and travel is factored in to this review as it does not reflect on the establishment. I ordered 2 steak tacos Mexican style, one steak tostada with no sour cream, a chips and salsa, and two red sauce and one verde (as red is typically the hotter and I enjoy spice). The first dish I tried was the steak tacos my first bite contained a sizeable piece of gristle, which made me gag a bit though I did not find another throughout the rest of my meal. Wasn't super impressed by the steak quality overall, though I've definitely had worse locally. The limes were fairly dry which was disappointing, and they gave me two green one red for the sauces which was also disappointing. The verde sauce didn't bring much flavor, but I expect that from those sauces. The red sauce though packed such a punch, I was impressed! The hot sauce alone deserves 5 stars on its own though, as someone with a heat tolerance I can respect anything that makes me dose carefully onto my food. The tostada was made as ordered which was nice, and I found it to be pico heavy with no sour cream and lost a good portion of ingredients while eating, which was almost needed. I will say the tostada impressed me that it held its density through travel, and I enjoyed the amount of avocado given. The chips and salsa were.... Less than great. The salsa was more of a pico and less of a standard salsa which was disappointing, and seemed to be mostly onion and pepper with very little tomato. The chips were nothing to write home about, based on taste and texture I imagine these to be formerly frozen and fried, they taste more like a tortilla chip you would get at Applebees or something of that nature instead of an authentic homemade chip. I would consider coming back for the hot sauce, but that's the only thing that caught my eye with this experience. read more

We have been searching for a good breakfast burrito spot and found it here. I got a Baleada with bacon (comes with beans, eggs, sour cream, and avocado). It is basically a burrito but the tortilla (f*cking amazing too) is folded in half instead of rolled. My partner got a bfast burrito w chorizo and it was equally as awesome. The chorizo itself wasn't insanely greasy like some places, but still had that normal amount of chorizo grease drip. I will be going back, often. This is way out of the way for us, but this business caught my attention as I read the news article where the family was profiled in the Tampa Bay Times. It detailed how they're struggling financially to stay open as the owner's husband was deported and they have 5 children including a daughter with special needs. Come out and check this place out Tampa Bay! The family is super nice. Food is fresh. The food is a 4, but this sweet family makes it a 5. Lots of patrons coming in for takeout and several dining in. There was a steady flow of people for a Thursday night. It's tucked away in the corner of a tiny, older shopping plaza. We couldn't tell if it was open or not when we pulled up and parked in front of it. The sign on the door said it was open, but the windows are very tinted and it's not brightly lit inside. You walk in and hear an alarm sound so the family knows you've entered to order at the walk-up counter. It's super casual, not fancy, Latin food (mostly Mexican). The building is showing its age but they offer a lot in this older space. There is a large menu and all items are freshly made. The shrimp diablo is what it says on the menu extra spicy! I loved the sauce. I felt the burn! It comes with fries and rice. I would've substituted the fries for beans had I known I could. I heard a customer after me ask for that instead. My husband enjoyed his large chicken torta (sandwich). My kids each ate several tacos (pork and cheese and chicken and cheese). The beef and cheese empanadas were good. I ordered through ubereats - admittedly mostly because the delivery fee at that time was $0 - and was initially pretty skeptical: How is it that everything on the menu is so cheap? portions must be small, or the quality mediocre, right? WRONG. Let me just start by saying that the large Cuban sandwich has to be the biggest freaking sandwich I've ever seen. It may be 12" as indicated, but it looked bigger, like the place used a full loaf of bread for it. That sandwich - by itself - fed me for two nights, and I have a very healthy appetite. Now, mind you, that doesn't mean the quality was just meh. The pork was REAL pulled, flavorful pork, and the sandwich wasn't too dry as is often the case with Cuban Sandwiches. I also ordered pambazos (some sort of chorizo-stuffed, fried bread), which was excellent, unique, and again, very generous in size. The one small complaint i have were the fries, that tasted like they were the frozen kind, but even those didn't taste like the old, frostbitten kind you usually get, and for $2 I don't think that's a real disappointment. We had the empanadas , 2 steak tacos , tostones & a steak torta with everything and chips/salsa ( salsa has a bit of heat to it but I love it!) I would def recommend this place ! Wow I had such high hopes but nothing was up to even a basic expectation. I ordered something simple-- cheese enchiladas and guacamole. The guacamole was brown and the enchiladas were greasy, dripping with oils, and cold. I ordered a few other items for friends and everyone had the same issue-- greasy. Definitely what you'd call "comfort food"! The menu is huge and varied for a "Latin food" restaurant...I even noticed they offered a fried chicken dinner. The prices are very reasonable, ranging from some items at $2.00 to a few around $10.00 (fish dinner, for example, and some shrimp dishes.) I really liked that in spite of it being a "Latin" place, I was able to get some items that were not overly spicy...some other restaurants (chipotle) over-do the heat, and mistake spiciness for flavor. The other notable thing was the size of the burrito---it was huge. Actually a two-day project, but I manned up and finished it in one sitting! Food is just as good as the original in Land O Lakes but a much nicer location(original is in an old gas station). They have things you don't see everywhere. The Plantanos Rellenos are my favorite. Pambazo may be the messiest sandwich I've ever had but it's worth a few napkins. read more
