I think my visits at TacoSon have slimmed down because at first time visit, the food and portions were pretty good. But I'm noticing how each time I go it's not consistently matching the price of their food. Don't get me wrong, they have a promising restaurant but you can't charge prices that doesn't match the product. I've ordered double meat twice and I was surprised that I couldn't tell the difference. If my order is a simple order, shouldn't it be like it's the first order taken. Great prices on individual items. I don't see any large combinations available on the menu but since they offer numerous individual items you can get there without breaking the bank. For example I ordered the largest taco combination, which comes with TWO small tacos that are loaded, along with a small amount of your choice of beans (black or refried) and rice. Its nice that you get to pick from numerous meats and three different kinds of shells. 4-stars. Tacos were dripping from juice, which made the meal messy and shells started falling apart. If you're still hungry after this you can add an individual tamale at $3.75 or a tostado at $5.99. It is sad to see how much these prices have gone up in the past few years... If you Google it the taco combo was $7.99, an increase of $3 or 38%. My friend had the tostado and said it needed more meat. They offer a number of sauces with medium being the mildest. Wish they had a creamy sauce. One big complaint is the squeeze containers of sauce you grab at the counter and take to your table are sticky and gross. Not sure why they don't keep those clean. The restaurant has plenty of tables. Good for bigger groups since you can push tables together if you get there before they get busy. Not much ambiance inside with several TVs playing the news. They have outside seating at the front of the restaurant just outside the front door and to-go tables way out behind the back of the restaurant. They also offer drive-thru. When you arrive inside you order at the counter, make your Coca-Cola drinks at the dispenser and go sit down with your provided number tent. They do have root beer, along with sweet and unsweet tea. Always such a good spot. This time we went for lunch and after ordering the woman taking order saw our table was dirty and rushed over to wipe i down for us. By the time she was done the food was ready. I know the chips and salsa are always good but this tiem I tried to burrito classico with chicken. It was one of those things where you think, "I can't possibly eat this whole thing" and then the next thing you know you ate the whole thing. TacoSon has become one of our regular places to eat at. I usually get their two taco meal, barbacoa being my personal favorite. It comes with rice and your choice of beans, I go for refried. I do think the rice is a tad bit salty but I don't mind because the flavor is great, especially with their amazing green hot sauce. I wish the quesabirria was an option for this meal, but it only comes in a larger portion. I've also gotten the family taco meal, which is a great deal for the amount of food you get. Their chips, salsa, and guac are great, I recommend an order per 1-2 people, as the portion size could be bigger, especially compared to the huge tubs of rice and beans you get when you order a large. I could drink the salsa it's so good. The drive through is a great plus that we use more often than going inside. They also have a relaxed seating area inside with 8-10 tables, and outside which is nice to sit at and eat in the evening/night. read more

Small place and was super packed at 1pm on a Friday. Veggies on the tacos were perfect and tacos are huge with a lot of meat. Their home made hot sauce is also awesome. I did their three hottest and all were good. We ordered. Side of chips and guacamole and the guacamole was super fresh. People will tell you about other "best Mexican food in Tampa" but they're wrong. It's this place. If Taco Bus is as good as a stuffed crust at Pizza Hut, Taco Son is a slice of pie right off the streets of New York. Neither bad, but one is clearly the best. First let's talk food. At Taco Son, the ingredients are fresh. Cilantro comes to the show on a lot of dishes as do other fresh veggies. Tamales are huge, pillowy, and full of rich corn sweetness. Even the hot sauce is far more complex than your standard hyper vinegary affair. Value has Taco Son in the top spot as well. Compared to down the street Vallarta's, you get far more for your buck. The guacamole and chips was 5.50 as of me writing this...don't tell them this but I think that's cheaper than I can get it at Publix right now. The only thing lacking perhaps is ambiance of the establishment itself. It's more "lunch" than "dinner" in aesthetic. Don't take your hot date here, get it to go and take them to Riverwalk or Lettuce Lake park for a picnic. Overall, a solid 5/5. read more

Holy hell does this place get busy during weekday lunch time. BUT that might have been the case today specifically because Hillsborough County Public Schools decided to host the entire district's ELA and reading teachers professional study day at King high school. They gave us an hour and a half lunch break, which I thought would be WAY MORE than enough time to grab some tacos from this highly-rated taco joint right around the corner from the school. Lo and behold, it was enough time, but probably only because I opted to roll through the drive-thru after seeing the ordering line spilling out of the front door. I only took away a star because the drive-thru took almost 25 minutes to get through and this was despite the fact that there were only three cars in the line. I'm sure the staff was overwhelmed by the amount of diners inside but I felt like we had to have been handed our food after most of that line went through. I ordered two soft tacos, one chicken and one steak, and a small side of chips and queso and a regular soda. The total came to a little over $11 which I considered to be a completely reasonable price given what I ordered. The chicken was SO much better than the steak. I found the steak to be a little dry. The chicken had a kick ass, juicy flavor and it paired perfectly with the onions and cabbage (I am one of those anti-cilantro people so I steered clear of tomatoes and anything other topping that might contain cilantro). The queso was good and the chips, not piping hot and fresh, were tasty enough. TacoSon is definitely a Temple Terrace lunch favorite and if I ever find myself back in the area, I would return for sure (and hopefully get to enjoy eating inside the restaurant). read more

I've been to Taco Sun several times and haven't been disappointed once! This is definitely my fave go to for authentic Mexican in Tampa! I've tried the tacos, nachos supreme, taco salad, guacamole, and even breakfast burrito in the morning. They make everything fresh and my food is always hot. I've tried all the proteins with the exception of anything pork, my favorite is the barbacoa--always tender and flavorful. If you're getting the nachos I highly recommend splitting them with someone because it's a lot. They do charge extra for additional toppings like cheese and sour cream but the portion sizes in general are decent so if you like a little extra on yours just go for it and forget about the price because it's all worth it! read more
