Since this state is known for its green chile cheeseburgers, I had to try Fina's which is called a Mexican burger on the menu. Its a little unconventional: the burger is swimming in the chile sauce (see photo), so instead of eating it with your fingers you have to cut it with a knife and eat with a fork after sopping up the sauce with the bun. God it was good. Couldn't finish all my fries, too stuffed. The proprietor is a hoot. On the way out I noticed the overstuffed fruit turnovers in the bakery case. I would have died for one of those, but I was so stuffed there was no way.

After playing 9 holes we properly stopped into the bar for a round. there were plenty of other people at this spot on the top of a mountain, and it seems like most were just there for the beer. There was even a bachelor party taking place and it was only 11am. I should mention we had on jackets thinking it would be cold but the round got us hot. The place actually ditched our jackets in a cupboard until we were done playing, free of charge. Great spot; I may go again just for the view and the beverage!

Now, I genuinely do not like bar seating as I prefer a table, and they have one that sits 10 people but since there was two of us we did not want to hog up that much space. Our server was great and we started off with the brussel sprouts and elote corn ribs with red chile butter. Both were delicious and off the charts! I opted for the chicken sando and BFF ordered the steak frites. Both were delish and full of flavor! We also had a really good pinot cab. Our bill was a bit pricey for their HH menu (116.00 incl 5 glasses of cab total) but worth every penny! Ambience is totally cool, laid back, classy (but not pretentious) with a modern rustic flair on the inside. Will definitely be back if I am in Taos again!

I sampled a taste from my brother's beer flight ($18). My mom's Desperado Mexi Lager also. They were mostly enjoyable. Red apple cider was probably something I would have on the front porch. For lunch I had the BBQ brisket sandwich ($12.50) with fries, pickles, and onions. They did not skimp on the meat. There was BBQ at the table which I added because the brisket was a bit flavorless. I chuckled when our server brought the mac and cheese out to my ultra picky nieces. He stated to my sister-in-law that it was in fact the Kraft-style mac, but it wasn't. I mean maybe he should learn what that means first of all. But second... Can you believe those kids are so picky that they didn't eat a single bite? Eight dollars per bowl with a side. Wow. My kids would starve the rest of the afternoon if their food smelled and tasted half way decent. Lol. I can almost hear the mutterings at my parenting style. Hey at least I drank my overpriced whiskey cocktail. Because our party was so large, automatic gratuity of 18% was added to our ticket. The women's restroom was small and mostly clean, but awkward entering and exiting with other women and girls crammed inside. This review is only concerning what the restaurant calls a "cappuccino." If you have never had a cappuccino in your life, then don't bother reading my review as you will not have any clue as to what I am talking about here. My first "red flag" was the size of the cup. It looked to be about 16 ounces ... YIKES! Never in my life have I even seen a latte that large! Now, keep in mind, the price for this "gourmet coffee" (as the sign out front professes), was $4.25 + tax, so even though I was in the middle of nowhere, the price charged was as if I was in Santa Fe. I took a sip ... and my immediate thought was that I was tasting a cup of instant coffee with hot milk and too much water added! Forget about any frothy head on this coffee. Again, it would not have passed for even a watered down latte. The "barista" must have seen the expression on my face and she immediately commented, "Oh, it's not sweetened!" (really? I should hope not!). I responded, "It's so watery!" to which she replied, "Really?!" She did not offer to make any kind of correction to the so called cappuccino, instead just looked at me with a blank stare. Being the overly polite person I am, I paid the exorbitant price for the drink and went on my way. I tried one more sip as I traveled down the road, hoping there might be some redeeming quality to this concoction, but to no avail. I drove for another while and pulled into the next gas station and bought myself a Starbucks canned double shot to get some form of caffeine fix. My recommendation is to avoid the "gourmet coffee" at all costs at Chili Line Depot. read more

Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try all of them, but I'm very happy we chose Michael's Kitchen. Between the authentic food the welcoming atmosphere and Chaniece's outstanding service, it was one of the highlights of our visit to Taos.
