Upon entering the decor def gave us vibes as if we were in Tulum, it's beautifully decorated. I ordered the Mediterranean mezze platter which was super refreshing with shrimp & fulfilling with the softest pita bread. Usually love this place but yesterday's experience missed the mark big time. Went in around 3 to just get some snacks and drinks. The host stand was empty for the first 5 min. She didn't seem to want 6 of us to eat. Then we were sat at a table right next to the bar area that had a couple patrons that were SO loud. The restaurant was empty so we have no clue why they had to sit us there. The manager walked by a few times and didn't even acknowledge us. He'd meet our eyes and he looked super angry. The busser came by and gave us water about 5 min after we sat. At 315- the server that I watched laughing and doing nothing at the bar came over and finally asked if we needed anything. When I told her that we were actually leaving because it had been several minutes- she looked at me and was like it's only been like 5. No maam we walked in at 3 and now it's 316. Went to elephante instead. As a retired server myself- there were so many mistakes here. If you are busy, you still need to acknowledge people. As the manager when you see a table just sitting there talk to them instead of cleaning the table in front of us. Truly felt like it was because we had 3 12 year olds with us. I have been here a few times prior to my recent experience and I just don't understand how they can be so inconsistent depending on the season and time of day. A few months ago I went to their grand brunch which is AYCE and drink for about $55 a person. It was great, multiple stations, different options, a full entree and the entire experience was very lively. Today I went and it was a completely different experience but the "offering" was supposedly the same. Many stations were missing, there was no music, section was very slim and additional fees kept getting added to our bill. It was a friend's birthday and we had a large party. Cala did not get back to us about reservations for WEEKS we finally got in contact with someone and they added a 6% service charge, 20% gratuity, 3% admin fee and a $25 cake cutting fee (mind you they offered to cut the cake + we brought our own plates). We DID NOT ASK. They kept providing misleading information as their website states they have the brunch on the weekend but the admin stated they didn't. We asked to schedule on Sunday but they somehow scheduled us on Saturday. Overall it was a terrible experience and they supposedly could not make any accommodations on the additional charges. I'm tired of places in Old Town charging additional fees just because it's Old Town. There is nothing special here. An AYCE brunch is nice especially in Scottsdale but when their selections are different and a smaller selection each time I go it's not something that is favorable + ideal for a foodie who expects top tier service and food with it being $55+ a person. Cala is a really beautiful restaurant below a hotel. We were lucky to get a reservation around 8:30 for dinner a week in advance. Apparently this spot is super popular for bachelorettes, big groups, birthdays, etc - the environment is loud and fun. We ordered some wine and the Sarti Spritz to start, both of which were delicious and the spritz was well balanced. For food we ordered the fries, meatballs, broccolini, and honey harissa carrots to share. The greek fries arrived room temperature but they had a good flavor. Super slow service. First when we got there told they didn't have brunch that day which was disappointing. Ordered drinks and they took over 20 minutes to come. We were a group of twelve and maybe 7 other customers in the restaurant. Lots of employees just standing around talking to each other. Then appetizers came minutes before our meal. Food was just okay. Nothing amazing. Waiter never asked us how we were doing or if we wanted more drinks till after we finished eating. This was an hour after we arrived. Then when we did order a second round of drinks he comes back 15 minutes later saying they don't have a few different liquors to make a few cocktails. I will say it is loud inside, especially because on the night we were there there were 2 very large bachelorette parties very close by. Caitlin is the business at the bar!!! We had thee best Happy Hour experience at Cala. Excited to get out the house we took a trip up to Old Town. This happy hour is fantastic and the bar is vibe is classy and chill. We grabbed a seat at the bar and quickly made friends with others starting the weekend off early at 4pm. For cocktails, my husband grabbed an old fashioned and I got the margarita. These were our cocktails but they had several other classic cocktails on special. On this occasion we did try a few appetizers. A favorite was the meatball and the shrimp was also very appealing and flavorful. The vibe of this hotel restaurant is really unique. Lots of natural colors and eyes pleasing decorations. The patio of this place is prime for a special occasion dinner. Definitely will be coming back here. I love Cala for brunch! They offer a brunch buffet deal on Saturdays called Cala Grand which features a buffet of appetizers/sides in "stations" an appetizer of choice and an entree along with bottoms hugo spritz, aeperol spritz, limoncello spritz and espresso martinis. When we went they weren't offering a lot of what I experienced before on the patio including the pasta station, likely because it's too hot in the summertime here. Food and vibes were still on point! Cala's ambiance exudes nothing short of a modern, hip and tastefully decorated venue. Had a good visit to this restaurant located inside the Senna hotel. The female bartender was very friendly and provided good service. The menu is Greek/Mediterranean inspired. Started with a Greek salad and it was really fresh and tasty. Loved the feta. I had the Wagyu, veal and pork bolognese minus the veal. It was pretty good, but could have used a little more flavor. It was a lot of bread and cheese and we ended up having left over Saganaki and foccacia for breakfast the next day. For our main, we split the Morrocan swordfish. We appreciated that our waiter offered to have the meal split. We also ordered the harissa honey carrots as a side. The flavors were all so yummy. I was so disappointed in this restaurant and had very high hopes. Food was very mediocre and extremely overpriced. Service was below average. They were not willing to accommodate very basic requests. I would only consider going back if they significantly reduced their prices. It's not good enough for what they're charging. My shakshuka was almost all egg whites which was extremely disappointing. My friend's Huevos Rancheros didn't come with any salsa, which seemed odd. We requested salsa because we saw that the burrito on the menu came with it, and instead they only offered us Tabasco rather than the actual salsa. Additionally, we requested a side of Greek fries because we saw that they had them at another table and came with an entree on the brunch menu. Appetizers were brought out for the table to share and there were enough that no one had to elbow anyone else to get a taste of something. I've been to Cala Scottsdale several times before and always enjoyed it, so my family and I were excited to try their Easter brunch buffet. Unfortunately, this visit was a letdown. We had a 12:30 reservation but weren't seated until almost 1:00. Service was slow from the start, and our server didn't explain how brunch worked before asking for our entrée order. The buffet had good options, but being outdoors meant flies around the seafood and meats, and items weren't replenished well--everything looked picked over. On top of that, the food was bland and needed salt. The worst part was my entrée. Our server spilled water all over my burger and laughed it off. By the time the replacement came, everyone else was done eating. When I asked to take it to-go due to the situation, I was told no. A manager's "solution" was to wrap it in aluminum foil and hand it to me at the table, which felt embarrassing--especially after seeing others with proper to-go containers. The crudo and tar tar are very good. The rice crisp is seasoned very well like a chicharon. Ok, now everything else was not a good experience given the price point. The swordfish is blend, no flavor. The sauce is also blend. While I appreciate having veggies but it's all mixed in and makes no sense. There is beans, bell peppers, onions, and other random ingredients. It's like the dish is confused on what it wants to be. We finished it since we're hungry. Took one bite of the chicken and unfortunately it is incredibly over cooked. Super dry and tough. It's like eating jerky. I can't even cut it with the knife since it so tough. I told the server who didn't try to rectify the situation and just took the dish, said "oh ok". Didn't offer something else, charged me for the chicken, and asked for a 25% tip on bill. What a disaster of a night. Absolutely do not recommend at all! read more

It seemed as if she did not want to be bothered with me and half-assed her job as much as possible. I was unimpressed by Cala as a whole. I don't get the hype. I've been to Cala three times, and every time I'm disappointed. Their cocktails are some of the worst in Scottsdale (watered down and overly sugary), and their food is bland (except for the pasta). One of my foodie friends suggested hosting my birthday brunch there, because she said the Cala Grand buffet was worth it. It's been a few years since I've been back to Cala, so I was down to give it another chance. I proceeded to try and get in touch with Cala, which proved to be very difficult. Their phone number routes to an automated message with an AI voice prompting you but not successfully connecting you with anyone for several minutes. Any number or email I've been given to their large party coordinator (Jordyn) has gone straight to voicemail and with no response to my calls and emails (until today, which is almost two weeks since I sent my initial inquiry). Then I'm told by Jordyn after booking via OpenTable and talking to a manager (TJ) that they don't do the Cala Grand buffet on Sundays in August, which was the day I booked. The manager never informed me of this. This has been a frustrating experience all around. If Cala doesn't want my 16-person party's business, we'll go elsewhere. read more

While getting us started with drinks and apps and then service went downhill after that . She refilled waters at our table maybe twice and then just stopped. We asked for a few boxes and she never pre bussed our table . All of our empty dirty plates from our apps and entrees were left on the table even when we paid. Never picked up ONE . I feel like the 20% gratuity was not deserved . We spent good money for mid service . Coming from a table full of servers I feel like we deserved better.
