Steve took the time to inspect the car, found that the battery had been improperly secured by whoever installed it previously, and fixed the issue. What really stood out was his honesty. He explained what happened, got everything taken care of, and didn't charge me a dime. A less honest shop could have easily sold me diagnostics or repairs I didn't need, but Steve chose to do the right thing. It's hard to find people you can genuinely trust in the auto repair industry. I brought my 2006 C6 Corvette in after the shifter stopped engaging. I spoke to Steven, who was very polite and friendly. He said they had diagnosed the issue, which was a snapped shift cable, and he quoted me over $1,200 to fix it. I called my friend who knows cars, and he told me it was very unlikely the shifter cable snapped, and it was most likely a broken plastic bushing which often degrades over time (my car is 20 years old). I was curious, so I also asked AI, and it said the same. My friend advised me to ask the shop for evidence of the shifter cable breaking. I called Steven and asked to see evidence of the break, and he told me he had none, and in order to take a photo of the snapped cable it would require disassembling the entire car. I later found out this is simply not true: the shift cable end is accessible from underneath the car in minutes without any significant disassembly. I also asked him if they had considered whether it could be the plastic bushing, and he said it was "definitely not" this, for some inarticulable reason. I asked if he had actually looked and checked, and he confirmed the issue wasn't the plastic bushing. Before authorizing any work, my friend told me to tow the car to his place because he didn't think these people were being honest with me, so I did. My friend identified the problem in under 5 minutes: as suspected, a plastic bushing on the shift cable end had broken, a part that costs about $10. He fixed it on the spot. I called Steven to let him know that he and his team had incorrectly diagnosed the issue, and he very politely, without skipping a beat, or changing his demeanor, told me, "that's very strange" and that he would "talk to the guys". Whether this was a genuine misdiagnosis or something more deliberate, I obviously can't say for certain. But what I can say is that I was quoted over $1,200 for a $10 fix; the claim about needing to disassemble the car to show evidence was demonstrably false; and Steven and his team, who are presumably expert car mechanics, and who said it couldn't possibly be the plastic bushing, turned out to be completely wrong. You be the judge. In any event, I have filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. I have also scheduled a nice dinner for my friend who saved the day. If you decide to use this shop, definitely get a second opinion and an itemized written estimate before approving any work.

My daughter had an appointment today at 8:30 AM - just needed a new battery for her 2020 Honda Fit…read more This place tried to Scam! They targeted a young woman. We just needed a battery - but they came back with a estimate of $1,800. Initially they refused to provide an itemized quote. Claimed there were oil leaks. Eventually received quote, but it was loaded with unnecessary services (brake, fuel injection, transmission, etc..) Nothing to do with actual needs of car. Nothing to even do with "supposed" oil leaks. Note - some of these same services had been done less than 60 days. Final effort to just get battery replaced - after many attempted calls and texts. Eventually, they quoted $195 labor (on a $200 battery). Outrageous! When told to do nothing, we will pick up car. They then tried to charge a $275 diagnostic fee. Never discussed or authorized. Found this place because under CarMax warranty - as they are RepairPal provider. This was such a bad experience, pursuing complaints with Bureau of Automative Repair, RepairPal, CarMax. Images of quotes attached for proof. NEXT DAY UPDATE... - Car was taken today to a reputable mechanic and new battery purchased and installed for $250. - There was never an oil leak reported - and none exists, as today's mechanic confirmed. - why would Carotech quote $195 labor to install a battery? See the evidence. - Why would Carotech recommend brake service, fuel injection service, transmission service, spark plugs - when appointment is made for battery. See the evidence. - Why would Carotech have to be pushed to provide a quote in writing? - Women be aware - unfortunately, Carotech targeted my daughter. She stood her ground and escaped the trap.
