You could come here just for the view but the food and service were just as spectacular. We came to celebrate our 28th anniversary. The salt spray from the waves and beautiful (cloudy) sunset was utter perfection. Laura took excellent care of us. We enjoyed the wild mushroom salad, the fried mushrooms were like croutons that complemented the arugula really well. The ceviche was probably the biggest let down of the night, it was a little bland and the plantains were thin and sparse. My husband had the lamb special and it was prepared perfectly. I had the almond crusted mahi and it was also cooked perfectly. Cocktails and wine are excellent. We also enjoyed tiramisu and the crack pie for dessert. We had some locals tell us they thought the prices were too high but we found it to be reasonable for a nice view and great staff and excellent food. read more

I am not one who writes reviews. Tonight, I'm motivated. Went to AMA and got to admit, I didn't have a good experience. Success in life is a straightforward proposition. Give your client/ guest a good experience and they'll come back. Been there twice. First time was an awesome experience, so I went back. Tonight was a bit different, and I won't be going back. TLDR: Was insulted by the wait staff and then got my entrée ice cold. The wait staff ... the wait staff could use "charm school". Never tell your guest that you are to "sophisticated of an establishment" to offer them a cocktail that is not on the menu. You have the ingredients. Make the drink. Charge double if it offends you! Sorry, I like Lime in the Coconut and when I saw the table next to me enjoying theirs in that cool Tiki Glass, I wanted one too! You have $6 canned beer including Coor's light so I'm not sure where you draw the line regarding sophistication. A simple "we don't have that; it came from the bar up the stairs" would have sufficed. Serve your food hot ... you served your most expensive entrée ice cold. I got the "spiel" on how great the filet is. OK, I appreciate a good cut of beef, let's have it! When I finally got it, it was ice cold. Beef, greens, and mashed potatoes...not lukewarm, cold. No guest wants to tell you that their food is cold, then no guest wants to tell you it's cold after you take it away and bring it out cold again. Treat your customers like they are paying you for the service and give them food that's hot! read more

We were able to enjoy this beautiful restaurant while visiting in August. The view was amazing and the food was just beyond our expectations. The service was fantastic as they use a team of two so your never kept waiting. We started with Shrimp and corn soufflé which was scrumptious. My husband had the Almond Crusted Mahi which he still raves about being the best mahi he has ever eaten. We went to this restaurant for a special occasion. The host was extremely slow and dismissive when we arrived timely for our reservation. Then, it took about 1 hour to get drinks and appetizers. Overall the service was very unpleasant, slow and non engaging. The whole dinner took almost 3 hours! We ordered the steak and it was overcooked and cold. The views were nice but we can't eat the views. Go to Hamiltons for a great steak and fresh lobster! Or to the boardwalk if you want the view and food. read more

During my recent trip, I was caught off guard by the amazing meal at Ama. Although there are several good restaurants on the island, Ama was by far the best. Every dish was perfectly executed. Aside from the food, the restaurant itself has an amazing set up on the water that provides an unmatched dining experience. This was one of my all time favorite dining experiences. Absolute must haves: - beef tartare - lobster tortellini - short rib puff pastry - honey pie I was almost inclined to reduce my rating based on the following issues, however, the food was too stellar to discredit due to poor management. - not open on Sundays/Mondays. Youre located in a hotel and should be open daily - entire restaurant staff should be able to provide dessert to go. I visited the night before I left and was hoping to pick up a slice of the honey pie i ordered the night before and was rejected by the full waitstaff on site since no kitchen staff was present at the time. I understand if I was asking for a prepared dish but a slice of pie should be easy enough for anyone to provide. read more

Wow, our first dinner hear since the remodel. We started out with drinks at the SunSet Bar 45 minutes before dinner seating. Loved the different frozen drinks offered during happy hour. We informed the AMA staff that we were here and were seated quickly. Started out with Fresh tuna tarter, that was great, best I had on the island so far. Ordered the daily fresh fish of the day, yellow fin tuna with potatoes. WOW! Perfectly cooked medium rare. Not a cheap meal but a great special dinner once a month. I'm going to go ahead and say this was one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been to. Nestled behind a little hotel right on the bay, you descent the steps to a multi tiered deck right on the water: so close you think the waves are going to hit you but they stop barely before you'd be in the splash zone. Views 12/10. It's honestly breathtaking. You should try to get there while it's still light out so you can see the sunset and get the vibe in the dark with the lights too. Service was good, and the food was even better. They are a certified sustainable restaurant which gives it that many more points, in my book. Octopus was delicious, perfectly paired with an arugula salad and potatoes. We had to have the filet recooked because it was ordered medium rare and came out well done, which took until everyone was done with everything else and we were still charged full price but it was scrumptious, none the less. The flavors in the mahi were also top tier. Chocolate mousse sounds basic but we ended up getting two of them because it was so good ! Overall 10/10, would have been 11/10 if it wasn't for the filet issue, but I would most definitely return any time I happen to be in stx. read more
