They say, "all's well that ends well." Certainly didn't start out well. Okay, so it's the night before Mothers Day, and it's prom night, and it's the night before my son's college commencement ceremony, but dammit, if you don't have the capacity, don't take the reservation. After an annoying wait during which time the hostess was mostly not around (probably to avoid people complaining about the wait), but when she did emerge, she was quick to tell me, she was seating all the large tables first, presumably, regardless of reservation time. When we were seated finally at 7:30, for our 6:45 reservation, I was not in a good mood. Our server, Alena, was though, and her charm and manner, made us all calm down and have fun. We started with celebratory drinks. Unfortunately our first appetizer pick Crab Puffs- Pate choux, lump meat crab, fontina, jalapeno aioli, jwas out and our second pick the chick pea fries was also sold out, so we ended up with the Artichoke & Black Truffle Dip- Artichoke hearts, secret cheese blend, black truffle oil, baguette bread. $7 very tasty. I was not so sure about that combo, but it had the right ratio,and was very tasty. They skimped on the bread, but were quick to bring more when we asked. 4 stars I had the Jumbo Prawns- Fresh large prawns, herb gremoulade, forbidden rice risotto, popped cherry tomato confit. $25 with 1/2 Caesar Salad. $4.50.: 3.5 stars. The prawns were a little over cooked, but the flavor was great, and the forbidden rice risotto had a great nutty flavor and perfect texture. Liked that they offered the half salad, and I thought the price point on both were very good. Son had Stroganoff- Chargrilled Snake River Farms steak medallions chargrilled, rich portabella and crimini mushroom cream, pappardelle pasta. $24: 4 stars. Not overly sauced as this dish often is. The beef was excellent quality Hubby had Harvest Dinner- Chargrilled Frenched Carlton Farms Pork chops, stone ground mustard potatoes, vegetable ratatouille, warm carrot sauce, bacon apple compote. $24: 3.5 stars. Lots of unrelated elements on the plate. Needed some editing, but each by itself was tasty. Not even a good experience. Turns out there was a large party upstairs that impacted on service but not told that wa the problem until we had been waiting for food for an hr or so (a good restaurant would have said at the time of seating that service would be slow to give us a choice about staying). The wait staff were clearly harried. The food when it finally arrived was mediocre (for example, the risotto was like a sticky glue with no flavor). Perhaps an off night food preparation wise since too many customers but does not explain the lack of information. Visiting some family and they took us here. It was very good! Our reservation was at 5pm on a Friday, so we made it for the last bit of happy hour. I got the half brisket and shared it. It was very good. I wish it had more brisket and sauce though. We also shared the ceviche which was very light and refreshing. Just the right amount of citrus. I've never had ceviche before and now I'm hooked. I also had a side Caesar salad before my meal. The croutons were nice, and the salad wasn't overly dressed. For dinner, I had the grilled salmon. YUM! The pickled cabbage on top was delicious, and the seasoning on the salmon was just right. The mashed potatoes were fine. Not really creamy- more rustic style. I ate everything on my plate. Where I docked them a star was in the dessert. We ordered the 24karrot and a gluten free chocolate cake. The cakes were dry. The homemade caramel sauce didn't have much flavor. And then someone tried ordering a lemon dessert and had to reorder three times because they kept being out of whatever it was she would order. Skip dessert and go to the ice cream shop around the corner. We walked passed people eating it and they raves about it. For this being a $$$ restaurant, I thought the prices were reasonable. Had to wait a little for a table on a Tuesday night, but definitely worth the time spent. Food was very good, wife and I split a Caesar Salad, not the typical romaine standard, but a tasty lettuce mixture, not over dressed, but sufficient. The dressing was well seasoned and complimented the order. Wife had the Diana's Salmon but with polenta instead of potatoes, excellent combination. Unfortunately, I had the Shrimp with Risotto. The shrimp were very tasty and properly cooked, but the risotto didn't fare very well, undercooked and just inedible, should have had the polenta. On the plus, my meal was comped and I'm appreciative of that. Our food was paired with a Kings Estate Sauvignon Blanc based on the bartender's recommendation, a wise choice. Overall, our service was excellent, the server was very helpful, courteous, and willingly took our criticism on the food. Atmosphere a little loud due to the high ceiling and open seating arrangement. We're looking forward to our next trip through Salem so we can explore the menu a little more. read more

Added an extra star since Amadeus has so much potential. With the very (overly?) large menu there are winners and losers. The chicken and the beef medallions were huge winners. The Madeira sauce on the chicken was excellent. While the balsamic sauce on the beef was a little too sweet for my taste, it was still good and the beef was perfectly cooked. Now for the not so good; they are NOT a BBQ restaurant! The brisket as an entree was terrible, it was a pile of very mushy meat. The ribs were mediocre and could have been from Applebee's ()! Speaking of entrees, why do only some of them come with a vegetable? We will certainly try Amadeus again. Service was good, the wine list adequate, and interesting drinks. read more

This place has so many good dishes! We went with a party of 6. Had the Mexican corn, spinach artichoke dip, and bruschetta to start. All were very good. They are on the smaller side so 3 was a good amount for 6 of us. They also brought out complimentary hummus. That was a good addition, a little on the sweet side but still good. I got the salmon which was good but slightly dry. Other in my party got the burger, and short ribs. They all raves about them. I got the whiskey passion to drink that was also really good. I LOVE Amadeus! Classy restaurant and the food is great! I am always delighted to take guests to Amadeus for a wonderful meal, especially out of town guests! They are always impressed with such a unique and interesting menu and such a great variety to choose from! And the food is delicious! Also appreciate the fine choices for my vegetarian friends! Did I mention some of the best beverages served in Salem?!! With friends and family who really enjoy a fine dessert, they are always impressed with the best Creme Brûlée they have ever tasted,(my favorite and I usually pass on dessert)! What a disappointment! Location is great. Service was mediocre. They were busy in a Friday night but even still...I was stranded with a bad plate of food meat with no server in sight. Calamari fine grilled salmon for her good. Still overcooked. The Chop. It's bbq. Which is hard to do right. And they do it poorly. Cold serving plate. Fingerling potatoes over cooked and dry as dust. Very little BBQ sauce on the meat itself...dry and tough and overcooked. Professional chef shouldn't cook a pork chop to the point that a big sharp steak knife has to SAW and press HARD to cut through. Told the server as she brought the check. Didn't seem to make a difference as no apology or visit from the mgr was forthcoming. Pork does not have to be cooked DRY to hit the right temp. We had a reservation for 6:45 this evening; showed up 15 minutes early and were asked to take a seat at the bar which we did happily. At exactly 6:45 the hostess came over and asked if we'd be willing to eat at the bar because they were running behind. When we said we weren't happy with that because it was hard to have conversations; she stayed that was the only table that was going to be available and it was at least another 30 minute wait. When asked if there was another place we could sit; we were told that there was bigger parties and other reservations coming in (restaurant speak for: we don't want your type here). Did I mention that one of us happens to be Hispanic, one African American, and one of us heavily tattooed? Nothing like some good old fashioned racism. read more

Consistently awesome! One of Salem's Best. I recommend making reservations. The bruschetta is AMAZING - Recommend it for anyone who likes cheese, bread, and amazing flavor. It's rich but so delicious at the same time! Steak medallions are a must. Same with the stroganoff During covid - Amadeus hands down had the best take out in Salem. Couldn't recommend it enough. Amazing food and amazing service! Owner greeted us and we did have a reservation. She was really really kind and upbeat. Our server (Valerie) was amazing!!!! Seriously the best server! It was my 30th birthday and she made it special for me and my fiancé. The hummus was garlicky and delicious. It was nice to have something besides the standard bread. My fiancé had a cocktail and said it was awesome. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and the waitress said it was the best thing on the menu for sure. I told her I loved capers and she was kind enough to get me extra sauce without me even having to ask. It was really sweet. She was attentive and our drinks never ran out. It had a positive atmosphere. My fiancé got the risotto with shrimp and loved it too. We had the chocolate sundae for dessert and I highly recommend it! They were kind enough to also give me a gift certificate for next time for a birthday gift. So so kind!!! Everything was delicious. Excellent service. I want to thank Amadeus for a great experience on our wedding anniversary when we came here for dinner last week. My wife and I are longtime Salemites and used to frequent Amadeus in south Salem before the move many years ago. I know I've written some mixed reviews over the years. But last week's experience was terrific. We both ordered the grilled salmon and it was an outstanding dish. The house manager and bartender took care of us in a great way. You can find high quality dining spots, and when you do, you expect to empty your wallet. Amadeus is famous for the former, but not the latter. The food here is fantastic, and all at a very reasonable value. My wife and I visit frequently and will keep coming back. Oh, and if you like Moscow Mules, you're going to love it even more. I have been a regular customer of Amadeus in the past, but will not be visiting this restaurant again. As many of us are aware Salem is under a water advisory due to the toxins found in our drinking water. Due to this water advisory I brought my own refillable water container into Amadeus today for lunch. The waitress seated my daughter and I, she asked if we wanted anything to drink. My daughter replied "what are our options due to the water toxins?" The waitress acted irritated that my daughter inquired about our options, then said "we have bottled water." So my daughter said "I'd like to have bottled water." After 15 minutes of waiting the waitress returned with the bottled water, and a glass of ice, then mentioned that the water was not chilled. My daughter said "that's fine, I don't want the ice just the bottle of water." Then the waitress looked at my container of water and said "we have a policy of no outside food or drink." I said "ok, you do realize we have a water advisory and this is my own bottled water?" The waitress just stood there and looked at me without saying a word... I then said "you're not taking my container", no response, just staring. It is very disturbing that the waitress was rude, didn't reply, acted annoyed with us from the moment we walked in... I was stunned, I've never had this horrible of service at Amadeus, I won't be back. read more

My wife and I went to your restaurant 12/30 21 at about 5:00 pm a server was on the phone . A heavy set woman came from the back ask if we were being helped I told here the young man was on the phone at that time there were only 6 people in the restaurant she told me that they where booked and could wait in the bar. her attitude was less than friendly . so my wife and I went to a restaurant in the block service was fine . We reserved a table for six at Noon on Sunday, May 11th. Amadeus Cafe was advertising a Mother's Day buffet / brunch from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The consisted of a pastry station with muffins, danishes, scones and rolls. A salad station with couscous and caesar salad. A traditional breakfast station with eggs, bacon, sausage and grilled tomatoes. A meat station with baked salmon, prime rib, bone-in ham, roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus. And a desert station. The buffet was $25.00 per person, with a 20-percent gratuity automatically added to each check. Coffee and cokes are $2.95, with refills. We were disappointed with the buffet. I understood from our server, Melanie, that this was the first time Amadeus had done a buffet. The owner, Deanna, made no provision for keeping the food hot, so everything served on trays on the buffet tables had cooled, from the fried eggs to the salmon to the roasted potatoes and prim rib. We all agreed it would have been better to order off the menu. I wish we had been there at 10:00 A.M., and feel very sorry for the people who there at 2:00 P.M. The restaurant is a beautiful space, and Melanie provided excellent service. Two stars for the buffet, three stars for the ambiance, and four stars for the service. read more

Husband and I had reservations at 5 on 9/7/18 for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We showed up a few minutes early but were still seated right away, by the front windows. Our server's name was Chris, and he was humorous and appropriately attentive, making polite conversation and answering our questions about the menu but not acting like some Dutch Bros barista! We have a 2 year old and don't eat at places like Amadeus very often, but I did appreciate the cheeky "a fork to mouth restaurant" tag in their title :) We had the Mexican corn as an appetizer. I've never had anything like it and loved it. My husband, who doesn't like spicy food, liked it but couldn't go further with it than a few bites. Our main courses took a little longer to come out than expected, and Chris brought us some hummus and chips. It was so fresh and the flavor was so perfect--it might be the best hummus I've had! I had a lamb dish and my husband had saucy chicken. We both loved our main dishes! Like I said, we don't eat at places like Amadeus very often, so it was something different from each of us and the quality and flavor of the food was perfect. To help us celebrate our anniversary (as well as having discovered the gender of our second child earlier in the day!) Chris brought us some Creme Brulee on the house! We moved to Salem this summer and have slowly been eating our way through the city. On an early date night we tried this place. The space is decent, the lighting is too bright to create any ambiance however. Our server was extremely friendly and funny. She was welcoming and gave great suggestions. We got there with about 20 min left of happy hour and our server suggested the brisket and polenta from the happy hour menu. We also ordered some zucchini fries from the at menu and the spanikopita from the main menu. The fries were more of a wedge and a welcome change from frozen soggy zucchini sticks. There were fresh wedges lightly tempura battered served with a delicious sauce. They were crispy but still firm so the fresh zucchini really came through without a lot of oil. The brisket and polenta from the HH menu was more than enough, we only could finish half. It's rich but well done and delicious. The brisket almost tasted like confit and was atop really rich and creamy polenta. Definitely unexpected and something I would return for! The spanikopita was a huge square of fluffy feta, spinach and cheese! I have eaten this dish all over the world and I have never seen such a huge square of it. It was fantastic. It was served on top of a a nice contrasting cilantro sauce that brightened the whole dish. I would have liked a touch more! I knocked off one star because of the ambiance and the cocktails. The cocktails need to be more refined and updated with proper ice or more accurately described. We left with a slice of cake from their extensive dessert menu and it was huge and delicious! We will definitely return maybe not on a date night . read more

Do you want decent food in a timely manner? If so, go somewhere else. One person in our party had to talk to three waiters over the course of half an hour just to get their glass of wine. Food showed up before they could even get their drink. Seriously, halfway decent food is prevalent in Salem. There's no reason to wait around at Amadeus for food of a quality that will come faster and cheaper anywhere else. read more
