It is a great place for drunchies. The pizza is salty, greasy, and everything you're looking for on a Saturday night when your delicate palate is long gone. This would be great if only the place is closer to Main Street and opened late. Sadly, the few times I've been here, I regretted it since pizza is just so heavy. I ordered a garlic bread cheese steak. Thirty-five minutes later, I asked if anyone was going to bring my meal to me. The cashier looked about and said here it is. I asked if it was ready, why didn't anyone serve me. They said it was a to go order. I never asked for it to be a to go order but now my lunch break was over. I ordered a tomato pie to take to a party. When I got home I noticed all of the outside edges were burnt and rock hard. I called and asked for a replacement pie because it should NOT be like this. The woman on the phone offered to replace 4 corner pieces. I went to get them and they weren't even corner or edge slices. I tried to replace the burnt edges as much as I could so it would be presentable. I've been a long time customer at this establishment and they definitely lost my future business. I absolutely love Amalfi! Coming from the greater NYC area, I'm a brat when it comes to pizza and this fits the bill. A chewy, doughy crust that has just enough oven-done bite to hold the slice out straight with a hint of crunch. I have eaten at this restaurant numerous times and never had a complaint until 9/3/22. Every item I purchased was overcooked. My Sicilian pizza overcooked. My Stromboli overcooked and the insides were dry. My roasted peppers were over cooked and mushy. I made a trip specifically for this food, and did not enjoy 1 ounce of it. I gave an extra star for the variety of pizza. I went in for two slices of pepperoni. The girl in the front yells to ask what I want, and seems annoyed when I'm not ready. When I went to pay, she threw my card on the counter and did the same w the receipt and pen. The guy who bagged up my food was nice enough. However, the pizza was not as good as I'd heard. I stopped by last Tues. at around 6:30pm with my brother to grab some pizza. Given that I'd spent all day traveling, I was in the mood for a takeout dinner. Turning to my trusty Yelp app, I saw that I'd bookmarked Amalfi, and that it was nearby. I suggested it to my brother, and he was game for trying it out, so I called and ordered a large (16") grandmom pizza for pickup ($15.95). It took about 20 min. to prepare, after which we picked it up and carted it back to my parents' place for prompt consumption. The grandmom pizza was similar to a neapolitan style pizza, with ingredients consisting of sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil. The main difference was that the crust was thicker than that of most of the traditional neapolitan style pies I've tried, and was thus more similar to the crust of American style pies. When it comes to pizza, I'm a stickler for a crispy crust, and the crust of this pie wasn't as crispy as the thinner crust I'm accustomed to for Neapolitan pies. The quality and flavor of the other ingredients was flavorful and fresh. However, the pie was a bit greasier than other neapolitan style pies I've had, and than I prefer. Despite these shortcomings, the overall effect of the pie was good, if heavier than neapolitan style pies I've had, and my brother and I enjoyed it. Overall, my brother and I were pleased with the pie that we received from Amalfi, and would return. While the price was slightly high, they offer a 10% discount for UD student ID holders, which my brother was able to take advantage of. Amalfi's definitely worth checking out if you happen to be in the area, so consider giving them a try. read more

Tap pay was down and I didn't have an alternative form of payment to cover my $12 bill. Instead of giving me the food that was no doubt heading to the belly of one of the cooks in the store or the trash can I got a big "I'm sorry" and a blank stare. Amalfi is of those hidden gems in a strip mall in the thriving region of Newark De. I've only eaten here twice but the food is authentic and the prices are very reasonable. The staff (there are many) are very upbeat, chatty and informative when it comes to selecting a few items off their large menu! -yes, the garlic knots need their own paragraph- These magical balls of perfectly cooked bread are coated with butter and freshly diced garlic. I was baffled when asking the cost. In my mind I was thinking of ordering 2-4. Bam...4 for $1. Of course I ordered 8. Who doesn't need 8 bread balls for a single meal? The knots are served with homemade marinara which has a nice blend of tomatoes, basil, and onions! Semi sweet and fully flavored! After a solid minute of thought processing I've concluded that there is absolutely no better way to spend a quarter!! I also ordered the eggplant, roasted red peppers and the broccoli rabe medley. All very satisfying. I must mention the generous portion as well! My meal was shared by 2 people and we still had leftovers, which tasted just as delicious the next day. On my 2nd visit I ordered the Gnocchi, I switched it up and ordered it with butter and fried onions. It came with 2 rolls that were so very fresh soft and hearty, requiring zero butter and a side salad with their house vinaigrette (one of the best dressings I've had.) The gnocchi time hopped me back into my grandmothers kitchen...simple but mouth watering good. I ordered marinara on the side and that was great as well. Again, portion size was very generous, as I was able to make three meals out of one entree. During my first we were given a free cannoli. This treat was straight out of Sicily. The cream had the perfect amount of ricotta and the friend pastry dough....mmmm! I haven't even tried their pizza yet so needless to say, I shall return! Two entirely great experiences! read more

Visiting from Maryland, we drove around looking for a quick bite to eat. So happy we stumbled on Almafi. As other reviews stated, the garlic knots are amazing!! The pizza is traditional and perfectly cooked. Food comes out quickly and piping hot. The staff is very friendly (and easy on the eyes). Their prices are incredibly reasonable. My 2 sons and I ate lunch with 2 slices, drinks, 2 appetizers and garlic knots for around $20. This will be our go to spot whenever we are in the area! Grazie Mille, Amalfi! read more

It seems pretty tough to write a review with one star for a pizza place which has such good rating. Stopped on our way to try Amalfi pizza which was in my book mark list. We ordered one slice of margarita and one slice of loaded veggie. It was a total disappointment to be honest. The slices were extremely oily and pizza was nothing special to talk about. I have been looking for good pizza for so long and I'm so excited that I stumbled upon this place. I had the spinach, ricotta and mozzarella Stromboli and I added mushrooms and onions. First of all it looked and smelled amazing and tasted like everything I'd ever dreamed of. It was delicious, cheesy, perfect crunch with the onions. Hovering somewhere between a 3.5 and 3.7, really - but since we can't give half stars, I rounded up in generosity. I ordered takeout by phone and my order was ready when I walked in about 10 mins later. Yay for fast service! Lady behind the counter gave off a very mom-persona and someone you would want to be on your side of the fight. For transparency sake, let me start by saying I'm not a huge fan of huge globs of cheese or just an over abundance of it. Personal preference and I am very aware that there are many people that love cheese way more than I do. So is this biased? Probably. Hence, another reason why I rounded up my rating. The Holiday Veggie pizza had excellent taste and there was an abundance of toppings, which I was a fan of. The only problem was that the crust was really soggy in the middle half of the pizza. Most likely due to the fact that I still had to drive home with the hot pizza in the box. Nothing a little time in the toaster can't fix! *Side note, this pizza is comparable to Mama Gia's white sauce/broccoli/tomato pizza...and way closer to me. Garlic knots were pretty good - really appreciated that they gave marinara sauce with it. Gnocchi Sorrento was very flavorful and saucy. However, as much as I am a fan of buffalo mozzarella, I had to take most of it out since the sauce is already very cheesy. Again, personal preference. It also came with a side salad and some bread, which I have yet to try yet, but they looked pretty standard. I ordered a side of the vegetable medley and although it had a fantastic flavor, it was swimming in oil and that turned me off. I had to dump out the oil (probably mixed in with vegetable juices as well since it was half of the tin) before I could eat any more of it. But, as I said, very flavorful. All portions were very generous!! Overall, I wouldn't be clambering to go back in the next week, but would gladly go back if the craving for pizza/garlic knots/gnocchi happen. read more

This is hands down the best pizza anywhere around Newark. From crust to toppings, generous portion sizes and a little of everything on display if you only want a slice, I won't go anywhere else for pizza. My favorite has fresh tomatoes and huge dollops of ricotta cheese with either spinach or broccoli on top, but they have meatball and even ziti-topped pizza if I want to change it up. My wife and I went here for cheesesteaks. Don't go here for cheesesteaks. I saw all the good reviews for the pizza so figured they have to be pretty good at cheesesteaks too. I was wrong. They didn't even use real cheese. It was the processed cheese slices you get individually wrapped at the grocery store. I did see one other review saying the cheesesteaks were dry. Thought that might have been a one off. It was not. Both of our cheesesteaks were very dry. I've never had their pizza before but I guess I'll have to find it in me to give them a shot at that. read more
