My friend and I were shopping in the area when we got caught in the rain and decided to find a nearby spot for lunch. We stumbled upon Amali and chose it because they offered a lunch tasting menu. The restaurant is small, chic, and cozy the perfect little escape. When we arrived, there were three tables seated. It took the host a moment to greet us as he was tidying up, and our server took a bit longer than expected to come over, but once things started rolling, service was pleasant. We started with a signature cocktail, Every Rose has its Thorn (margarita) which was perfect! A tropical escape in a glass. They brought out bread with feta butter, which was so good! For lunch, we both chose the $39 tasting menu. I ordered the octopus and salmon salad, while my friend had the spicy feta with steak and eggs. The octopus was nicely charred, and the feta was flavorful with a sweet-savory balance. The salmon was grilled nicely, though the salad itself was underwhelming for the price. My friend enjoyed her steak and potatoes. We also tried orange wine and a Hugo spritz. My first time having one, and it was so refreshing it might just be my new favorite drink! My 19 year old son took me out for dinner at Amali on 60th in Manhattan. It was my first time trying Mediterranean food. The place has a nice upscale vibe, but it still felt welcoming. Our waiter was super polite and kept our water glasses full the whole time. We had the fingerling potatoes to start, with French bread and a garlic butter spread. For the entree we both had the chicken and rice with feta--everything was really flavorful. I also tried crème brûlée for the first time, and it was amazing! Twice they handed me a dish that an acquaintance ordered instead and then a nearly an additional hour wait to receive a prosciutto sandwich and fries. DELICIOUS! Best restaurant we ate at in the city our whole trip. The service was amazing and they were very attentive and kind. The ambiance is very cool and chill. The restaurant is very pretty and not loud. We walked by it and decided to try it out and I am so glad we did. We ordered the mushroom appetizer which was my favorite. We also ordered the feta appetizer and I do not love feta and this was delicious! For our mains we shared a burger and got broccoli and cauliflower on the side. I am so glad my friend told me about this restaurant!  There were 4 of us on a Friday night for dinner, I believe only one person in our party had been there before.  Apparently they have new menu items since the last time she was there.  It was full for dinner in the main room by the time we left, plus the back room was full with at least one very large group. There's an upstairs area that can be used for private events but we didn't have a chance to take a look.  There are also a couple of small tables outside. Convenient location, lovely space, delicious creative house cocktails (with cool names!), delicious and beautifully presented food (and good portions!). The staff was attentive and friendly and helpful.  They have an extensive wine list and were able to answer questions/make suggestions to those of us having wine. If I were to label the cuisine, I would say "upscale Mediterranean." According to Amali's website the menu reflects the historical cuisines shared by modern day Greece, Italy, France, and Spain.  Note their service model (which is mentioned in the beginning of their menu) - they include an 18% hospitality surcharge in order to pay their staff above-market wages for service workers. To drink I had the "October in Astoria" because I was in a bourbon mood.  It was really great! My friend prefers gin and had the "Easy Virtue". The 4 of us shared everything - started with the autumn squash hummus and roasted sunchokes. For mains  - we were told when we first sat down that there were only two ducks left so we reserved one. It is on the menu as "entrees for two" but it would easily be enough for 4 people if you also share an appetizer or two. The spice roasted duck was PHENOMENAL and unlike any preparation of duck any of us had eaten before.  It includes spiced duck plus duck kofta (made from the duck leg?), plus homemade pancakes and veggies and jalapeno yogurt sauce on the side.  As a main it comes with two sides - we chose the fingerling potatoes (prepared crispy and way better than we expected!) and the brussels sprouts. - apparently some of the fresh pastas on the menu are new.  We decided to go with the short rib cappelletti - it melts in the mouth OMG. After that much food (the duck was a large portion!) we unfortunately did not have room for dessert. read more

The octopus even has spicy sausage in it which I high recommend. For mains we got the Truffle Tagliatelle from the special truffle menu which I really enjoyed as it was light for a truffle dish. I really wanted to like Amali, I REALLY did. Quaint on the outside, chic on the inside. This small restaurant decorated very cute with lights and greenery. The staff were fantastic, everyone very kind. Everyone greets you coming in, and leaving! They even give workers a living wage by adding 18% automatic gratuity/service fee to your bill--a practice where I haven't seen so far spelled out in most NYC restaurants. Great for the workers! I was not too much a fan of the sesame bread and whipped feta (but I think that has to do with my own taste). The bread came warm, was easy to break apart. Sesame everywhere! Haha The feta came in on a stone coaster--which, love the idea cause it was a good portion (gonna do that from now on!) Spanish octopus was excellent--perfect amount of char, flavor, smokiness. The snap peas and potatoes cooked to perfection, and tinged with a nice acidity as well. So far so good! Well, sadly that's where everything else fell short. For our entrees, we had the Agnolotti del plin (like baby ravioli) with Lobster and Black Truffle. The pasta was very soft, very likely to be made in-house. The lobster was seasoned perfectly, very buttery, and you got a good amount--seemed like 2 claws worth. However when you bite into the agnolotti--I could not handle the sweetness of it all. This may be just ME or some people like me, but I am the type of person who does NOT like the blatant mix of sweet vs savory (sorry chicken & waffle and McGriddle lovers)--ESPECIALLY when you are not expecting it. I guess I was missing the part where a server explains to you how the meal is and how it tastes--because from now on, now I have been scarred and now have to ask how something tastes because of this. It would be one thing if the menu said so, but I truly wasn't expecting it. Gave it to a nice homeless man outside. As for the tagliatelle, once again the pasta was very soft, cooked well--but there was a hint of "staleness" in the meat in every bite. Some bites worse than others, but the flavor was there. Maybe not too many people order it, or maybe oxtail has to be cooked a very long time to get rid of the gamey-ness? Idk. We were just a bit let down is all. Again, just my opinion on things, maybe the people who like sweet+savory will think I'm insane, but alas. Taste is taste and can't do anything about that. Super cute restaurant that offers fresh Mediterranean cuisine. We stopped by on a Sunday evening and were seated right away with no reservation. From the squash hummus to the chickpea burger, everything I ate was tasty and flavorful. The dressing that was on the side salad with my chickpea burger deserves its own accolade because it was absolutely delicious. Those that were dining with me also enjoyed their meals (the burger & the cavatelli). Service was friendly but we did have to track down a waiter when we were ready to pay since they had all seemed to disappear at once. It's restaurants like these that make me wish I lived in NYC! We were visiting NY and popped into Amali for some light bites and cocktails during the day. It was around brunch time, so the restaurant was pretty busy, but the hostess confirmed we were able to sit at the bar (we were a party of 4). We ordered a few rounds of cocktails and a few appetizers while we were here. The Whipped Feta and Charcuterie were two of our favorites. Well balanced in flavor and overall, very fresh! The cocktails were refreshing, light and flavorful- just what we needed. My personal favorite was the Red Lantern; featuring tequila, pomegranate, lemon, egg white, and bitters - YUM! I'm not sure what it is, but the frothy-ness of the egg white is just so delicious in a cocktail. While we didn't have a table, we didn't mind and really enjoyed sitting at the bar so we could engage with the bartender (super friendly) and watch her hand-craft our drinks. The overall ambience of Amali is great. It's cozy, not super loud, and seems like a great spot to meet friends for a delicious brunch. We got lucky, but I'd recommend booking a reservation (or coming in a small party and hope for a seat at the bar). Surcharges like this are illegal in the state of new york When walking in we were greeted by a friendly host. We were seated in a timely manner and service throughout the meal was consistent. Although pricey the quality of the food justified the cost. Things took a turn south when the bill arrived. We were uncomfortable to bring it up to our excellent server but when we got home found out the owner acknowledges this is an illegal practice on a news report. We understand his good intention to pay his employees well with the fee. However the fee and his internal compensation are two distinctly separate matters the establishment is trying to tie together. Simply paying your employees well does not grant someone a free pass to break the law as they see fit. We ordered a few apps and and one entree the whipped feta was probably my favorite. the bread it came with however was very hard the burrata was also quite savory. the vegetable it came with (snap peas but cut up) added an interesting texture that in wasn't a fan of together with the burrata but separate it was a party! also ordered the potato based spread which by the way its described we expected cut up potatoes but we got a puree which was good just surprising the pasta was really nothing special but the serving was so big i couldnt finish it would definitely recommend but probably would not return :) read more

Classsy Mediterranean restaurant with high quality food and service, but also rather high prices. I came for dinner and ordered the Beau Soleil Oysters, which tasted very fresh and came with an apple mignonette sauce, which added a bit of sweetness. For my main course, I ordered the Filet Mignon. I understand that some people might have considered this perfectly cooked, but personally, I found it to be a bit too rare on one side and the crust on the other side to be a bit too burned. It was very tender though, which is a result of this prized cut of meat. I loved the maitake mushrooms and cippolini onions that came with the dish, as they were unique and tasty. For dessert, I ordered the Tiramisu, which was a classic recipe. It was creamy with a nice coffee kind of flavor. Although my three courses all tasted great, I have to say that the prices were a bit high: $4 per oyster (I got 6), $54 for the filet mignon (granted this cut of meat is always expensive but there wasn't much meat on the plate), and $16 for the tiramisu (seems overpriced for the portion size). I suppose it can be argued that what I ordered is always pricey, but at the very least Amali should be $$$ instead of $$ on Yelp. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated with a sort of fusion between a bright Greek island style and a more cozy, wooden (and festive for the holidays) style. There is both a nice indoor and outdoor seating area. The staff were super friendly and attentive- you can tell they really care about making it a pleasant dining experience for you. The service speed was decent. Overall, you can be sure to get high quality Mediterranean food at Amali in a beautiful setting, with friendly staff. It's the last week of Winter Restaurant Week in NYC! This place has delicious Mediterranean food, but the price is pretty high. We love the appetizers. Both dishes come with this tasty fried flat bread. The hummus is smooth and tastes great. The mushroom is cut into small pieces and is well-seasoned. The scallop main dish is okay; the portion is kinda small for the price we pay. Duck sausage pasta portion is pretty big compared to the scallop dish. There is no dessert included in RW menu, which is kinda a bummer. Overall, food is amazing, I just don't think it is worth the price we paid. Amali was amazing! I went there for a late lunch, and the restaurant was not very full. The servers were very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I wanted to sit outside because it looked so cute, but we ended up sitting inside to enjoy the AC. The food was delicious. We started off with oysters - they were pretty small for the price ($4 each), but came with a great Apple Mignonette. The Spanish Octopus was cooked very very well and was super flavorful. It came with a red sauce/mash that was on the saltier side for me, so I asked for a lemon to balance the taste. I always respect a chef's dish design, but I would really recommend getting a bit of lemon for the lobster. The cavatelli was perfect. Super creamy and chewy - it's become my favorite kind of pasta. Had such a delicious meal here last week!!! The dishes aren't cheap, but you're paying for exceptional service, nice ambience, and some tasty food. I almost missed the place when I was walking outside because it's a bit hidden away, but the interior is gorgeous as you can see from the pictures. Our server, Roberto, was so attentive and friendly from the moment we walked in. My friends hyped up the branzino at this restaurant so much that I came here solely to try it, and I was not disappointed. The fish was so buttery and soft, and I loved how crispy the skin was. Classy and thoughtful dishes served by attentive waiters in a lovely environment. Our favorite dish by far was the Dayboat Scallops ($37). The scallops were perfectly caramelized and still tender. Seriously amazing food, wine, and ambiance. The pastas are amazing, as are the chicken and the duck. Definitely don't skimp on the starters - they are something to write home about. Only bummer was not having the surcharge explained. It was partially our fault - we split the bill with friends so didn't realize the surcharge was on there until after we left (and had tipped an additional 20%). We take the blame for doing that, but appreciate when waiters make it clear that gratuity is included when giving the bill. Overall a great experience though and we will be back. read more
