3.6/3.7 overall. Quite expensive for the food you get and the lengthy wait didn't help. Twice they handed me a dish that an acquaintance ordered instead and then a nearly an additional hour wait to receive a prosciutto sandwich and fries. Nothing to really complain about the food I ordered. Also complementary bread with feta butter.

    Shrimp salad

Tiny portion, over salted shrimp, overprice, def better options around. Nothing special.

Came for brunch and thought the food was just average. Appreciate the warm bread and butter service. Food, however, is on the saltier side. Got the carbonara pasta and shrimp salad. The shrimp on the salad was a bit heavily salted but the citrus in the dressing balanced it a little. I did like the zest of the dressing - but it may be a bit too sour for some. I would not order the pasta again but I wouldn't mind having the salad again.

Everything at Amali is great, and the price isn't too bad for NYC. Started with the octopus, which was great, and ended up getting pastas for our meals. All the pasta was homemade and delicious. The service was good and the place was very cozy and cute.

Laura Geller Beauty knows how to delight her beauty influencers. One way is to treat them to a fabulous meal at Amali, a great restaurant with all the right perks. Amali NYC provided excellent service in a room full of excited, talkative people excited about the holiday festivities and connected with many familiar social media personalities, including some of the Housewives of New Jersey. A night to remember with photo pops, Laura Geller Beauty gift bags, and a new product personalized with your name in calligraphy. An excellent Italian festive holiday dinner in NYC cheers to Amali for a wonderful holiday celebration to remember.

Decent Mediterranean restaurant-- good but not great. We both ordered the lunch tasting course menus. - Soup of the day: 9/10 (pretty good squash soup with hints of curry! It was very warming on a cold day.) - Skirt steak: 9/10 (pretty decent steak with huge portion sizes) - Duck: 7/10 (I was expecting more of a grilled duck steak and not a sandwich. Overall, the duck was a bit lacking in flavor.) Ambiance was very cozy and cute and service was good.

Good, not great. Came for brunch on my birthday and had a good experience. The shakshuka was very good, it could have used a little more flavor and it came out a bit too hot but besides that it was very good, the dip we got was phenomenal. Great service and very cute ambiance.

DELICIOUS! Best restaurant we ate at in the city our whole trip. The service was amazing and they were very attentive and kind. The ambiance is very cool and chill. The restaurant is very pretty and not loud. We walked by it and decided to try it out and I am so glad we did. We ordered the mushroom appetizer which was my favorite. We also ordered the feta appetizer and I do not love feta and this was delicious! For our mains we shared a burger and got broccoli and cauliflower on the side. The sides had the perfect flavor and were cooked perfectly and the burger was also amazing with the fries. Highly recommend coming here!

RATING: 7.8/10 PRO TIP: Was able to seat us on a Friday at 7pm right away, though it got crowded quick. If you choose the pasta, get the cavatelli, trust me. You probs haven't heard of this place but you'll be pleasantly surprised. The bread that they give you is fresh, coated with sesame seeds and comes with a delicious spread we couldn't get more of. Surprised to say the least. CAVATELLI Of the pasta options available, I elected for this one while my friend got the pappardelle and we both agreed this one was better. It was PERFECTLY al dente and had this nice bouncy chewiness to it, with the savory meatiness of the lamb and a little smokiness as well. It was a really good dish and I was pleasantly surprised. They have a pretty large drink menu too and you'll be able to find something you like. For me, I like sweet drinks/cocktails so I feel like I was really happy with my choices. The ambience is busy, a little elevated, but the dining room is def packed; you are just inches away from other tables. Nice space otherwise. Service was attentive. FINAL CATEGORY: GREAT (terrible / bad / ok / good / GREAT / excellent)

First time at this Mediterranean restaurant, host and wait staff very nice, room was nicely decorated but the lighting could have been a little brighter so we could see the delicious food that was being served but the room was very inviting and comfortable for a night out. Had the grilled clams, the breadcrumbs were nicely toasted on top of delicious local clams in orange butter. For the entree, I had the red snapper served on Moroccan rice wrapped in grape leaves. The fish was nicely prepared and very tender.

I am so glad my friend told me about this restaurant!  There were 4 of us on a Friday night for dinner, I believe only one person in our party had been there before.  Apparently they have new menu items since the last time she was there.  It was full for dinner in the main room by the time we left, plus the back room was full with at least one very large group. There's an upstairs area that can be used for private events but we didn't have a chance to take a look.  There are also a couple of small tables outside. Convenient location, lovely space, delicious creative house cocktails (with cool names!), delicious and beautifully presented food (and good portions!). The staff was attentive and friendly and helpful.  They have an extensive wine list and were able to answer questions/make suggestions to those of us having wine. If I were to label the cuisine, I would say "upscale Mediterranean." According to Amali's website the menu reflects the historical cuisines shared by modern day Greece, Italy, France, and Spain.  Note their service model (which is mentioned in the beginning of their menu) - they include an 18% hospitality surcharge in order to pay their staff above-market wages for service workers. To drink I had the "October in Astoria" because I was in a bourbon mood.  It was really great! My friend prefers gin and had the "Easy Virtue". The 4 of us shared everything - started with the autumn squash hummus and roasted sunchokes. For mains  - we were told when we first sat down that there were only two ducks left so we reserved one. It is on the menu as "entrees for two" but it would easily be enough for 4 people if you also share an appetizer or two. The spice roasted duck was PHENOMENAL and unlike any preparation of duck any of us had eaten before.  It includes spiced duck plus duck kofta (made from the duck leg?), plus homemade pancakes and veggies and jalapeno yogurt sauce on the side.  As a main it comes with two sides - we chose the fingerling potatoes (prepared crispy and way better than we expected!) and the brussels sprouts. - apparently some of the fresh pastas on the menu are new.  We decided to go with the short rib cappelletti - it melts in the mouth OMG. After that much food (the duck was a large portion!) we unfortunately did not have room for dessert.

The food was delicious. I had the branzino. Perfection! Also my friend and I split the carrot hummus- also delicious. I highly recommend this Mediterranean restaurant

    My Baby shower was amazing!
    Yuri C.

I had my small group baby shower in the Fireplace room. Food was amazing, and the Enzo who managed serving helping hosting my shower was a great help and very kind. My guests all enjoyed the great dishes and ambience of the restaurant. My bill was ended up higher than expected, but it was definitely worth spending for good food, service and ambience of the restaurant.

    No it is not.

Do you have gluten free options?

Hi Debra, the majority of Amali's menu is gluten free. We offer a housemade, freshly baked gluten-free bread option upon request and all pasta dishes can be made as a risotto. The majority of our desserts are also gluten-free.

Does Amali offer truly gluten free options? My son has celiac and we are trying to find a gf place to have lunch in May when we visit.

You can either take the stairs or the elevator. If you opt for the elevator, there's complimentary wine set up that you serve yourself. This would be great if the elevator took longer, but you are already there before you can finish pouring. I like that they have couches for you to sit at while you wait for your table. It's an open kitchen and you can see all of the action. The energy felt great here. We ordered the cast iron focaccia and Tuna Tonnato. The Focaccia is probably the best I've ever had. It was light and airy and not what a traditional focaccia would taste like. The crust had a nice crisp to it. It was brushed with olive oil and finished with salt. Just perfect and highly recommend. It came with a tomato chili sauce, which tasted good, but was not needed for this. We ordered the tuna to pair with the bread and it was a great combo. I ended up ordering the hangar steak and it was good. Full of flavor and the chimichurri sauce was a nice touch. Though, I would have like the taste of the beef to come out more. The marinade overpowered the meat IMO. My wife got the Rigatoni alla Gricia. I like the pasta and it was bouncy, but the dish was too salty though. We ended the night with the basque cheesecake and I have to say that it wasn't my favorite. The texture seemed off. Normally basque cheesecake is smooth and creamy, but this was a little lumpy like when you over cook eggs in a dessert. Overall, the service was great and the vibes of the restaurant was on point. The food didn't blow me out of the water, but it was good. I would come back here for the focaccia though.

There are numerous locations now in the city but this was my first time going and I was definitely eyeing it for awhile. They do weekday lunch specials of $14 pastas, boozey weekend brunches for around $24/25(not including food), and $12 Sunday dinner specials on entrees as well as happy hours on weekdays from 4-7pm that include: $7 snacks, $8 wine, $5 beer, $9 spritzes, and $9 wells. I happened to come in for Labor Day Brunch on Saturday. We both said we were going to do unlimited but honestly could only finish about a pitcher of mimosa and they only charged us for the one pitcher was the nice part. I went with Carbonara Pasta and my boyfriend had the egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich with fries. I'm not gonna lie, I've never gone to aycd brunch and have not finished my food but I could not finish my entree it was so massive and filling. I haven't had a pasta this rich in ages and it was so so good and I am all for not having those skimpy little portions. He couldn't finish his sandwich either. I tried one of the fries and it was nicely battered thick cut wedge fries. Maybe I haven't been eating out alot lately but I was legit impressed. The staff was wonderful and thoughtful. The cafe in itself is very cute and Italian with black and white marble in the bathrooms, white marble bar top, hanging plants, interesting light fixtures. I'm definitely going to make a point to come back soon.

This means those dishes aren't truly gluten free for people with celiac disease or anyone who has to avoid gluten. When I pointed that out to my server, he just gave me a blank stare. I acknowledged that the server doesn't write the menu, but absolutely zero customer service skills. The service overall was lacking. Aside from taking our order, no one checked on us or came back to see if we needed anything. Our server was just hanging out chatting up the hostess. We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. He was more professional than the server, but he was still dismissive of my concerns and of the service we received. Management seemed happy enough to promote the "option". The food was okay, definitely not enough to make up for the poor service and handling of a serious dietary issue. Needless to say I will not be returning.

The interior was completely packed, and the noise level was high enough for my smart watch to complain. To sample a bit of everything, we shared two orders of focaccia, four pastas, and one dessert. HOUSE-MADE FOCACCIA - 10 Super bouncy with a bit of chew, this was probably the best focaccia I've ever eaten. It came generously drizzled with olive oil and alongside chopped peppers drenched in even more olive oil, which added a nice little kick. We highly recommend starting with this. TAGLIATELLE - 27 Out of the four pastas, this was my absolute favorite. I love the thin yet chewy texture of the tagliatelle, and the bolognese sauce was rich and hearty. Finished with just the right amount of Parmigiano, both the pasta texture and sauce were sheer perfection. PICI 'CACIO E PEPE' - 23 This was such a simple pasta, yet so delicious. It was incredibly creamy and cheesy, with hints of fresh black pepper flavor that blew standard at-home black pepper grinders out of the water. Despite it being the simplest pasta of the night, I enjoyed it immensely. RIGATONI - 32 This pasta was simple yet slightly innovative, featuring sausage paired with a broccoli-based pesto. There was a slight bitterness that was polarizing among our group. While this wasn't my favorite pasta, I appreciated the creativity. PERCIATELLI NERO - 35 This dish packed in more components than just pasta and sauce: plenty of crab, tomatoes, and crispy breadcrumbs on top. However, the combination wasn't very memorable. None of the flavors really stood out, and it was my least favorite pasta of the night. OLIVE OIL CAKE - 14 Served with a pile of golden raisins and fancy whipped cream, this ended up being a bit of a miss. The raisins were a bit too sweet, and the cake's texture was uneven -- some bites were soft and moist, while others felt dry. A couple of others in my group also felt the same way. Overall, I'd give L'Artusi a 4.5/5; it was mostly hits with a couple of misses. The pasta portions are quite small. Since each dish is primarily carbs and sauce, I'd imagine you'll likely need an appetizer or a pasta and a half to leave full. Still, I'd definitely come back for the focaccia, tagliatelle, and the cacio e pepe.
