I had went here for my birthday in 2024 because they participated in Restaurant Week and I never had Greek food before. My waitress was great, the bus boy came around and he had poured water with no ice. I remember that I had to ask my waitress for ice water and she came back with it. I was told by the Hostess that upstairs was only limited to private parties. I remember it was packed and they probably get a lot of foot traffic because it's right across the street from Bloomingdale's. They gave me free bread and looked like humus. The appetizer was grilled octopus, the only problem that I had was they had charged an additional $12 because this is Restaurant Week we are suppose to get a deal. The entrée was a Branzino served with saffron risotto. I always wanted to try risotto because of the reality show "Hell's Kitchen" they mess up on this dish numerous times. The dessert I had was a sorbet and it changes so you have to ask what kind they have when ordering. For the drink they had a sangria and it was delicious, I had ordered another one. They had special drinks on the menu for $10. I remember the place gave an old school feel of Greece with the design of the bricks inside the restaurant and the plates. The bathroom was just one that everyone had to wait on. The bathroom was clean, but small. I said that I never had Greek food before, I never had octopus before, I liked it. I never had risotto before, I liked it. The reason why I give this restaurant five stars because I can't remember if the bathroom had toilet seat covers or not because that's a plus for me. Would I go back here again? Heck yeah! The food was great! The service was great! I have now become a fan of octopus, risotto was delicious and so is that sangria, I had to order it twice. Having been a fan of the Anassa Taverna in Astoria, I headed to the Midtown location with high expectations for the same level of quality and service. Unfortunately, while the atmosphere hit the mark, the food fell a bit flat. My companion and I came in for mezze and wine, and let's just say our eyes were significantly larger than our stomachs! We sat near the open street-facing windows, which provided a perfect vantage point for people-watching both inside and out. * Saganaki (5/5): Truly the star of the show. It arrived warm, perfectly seasoned, and finished with a lovely drizzle of honey. While it's a hard dish to mess up, they executed it perfectly. * Portokalopita (3/5): A mini version of this orange cake was brought out with a scoop of flavorless sorbet as a free dessert. It was a very nice touch, though not quite enough to save the overall rating. The Mixed Bag * Anassa Chips (3/5): These were lightly fried and beautifully stacked. However, the accompanying tzatziki was overwhelmed by dill, masking all other flavors. * Chargrilled Octopus (2/5): This arrived sliced rather than as a whole tentacle (likely to mask a smaller portion). Despite the menu description, it lacked any char or grilled flavor. * The Three Spreads (2/5): A tale of three textures. The Fava was smooth, flavorful, and transported me back to Greece. However, the Eggplant was overpowered by raw garlic, and the Skordalia was overworked to a gummy, gluey consistency. * Lemon Potatoes (1/5): These were essentially raw/al dente. It wasn't isolated to one bad potato; the entire dish was hard and inedible. Even a novice chef should know better than to serve undercooked potatoes. In the mood for Greek food, we slipped into Anassa Taverna on a Monday night and had a very good experience. Having helped open and run a Greek restaurant in Seattle, I'm something of a Greek food snob. In addition, we were hosting our oldest son and his wife, and my sons have been eating Greek food since they were old enough to shout, "OPA!" so we're admittedly a tough crowd. The food at Anassa Taverna was up to the challenge. We started with appetizer dips of tzatziki, fava and taramosalata with pita and flaming saganaki, then a mixed beet salad and wine before moving on to the main courses. My son and I each chose the lamb skewers (made with ground lamb formed around the skewer rather than chunks of solid meat) while my wife and daughter in law went for seafood. My wife chose the snapper with rainbow vegetables and DIL ordered branzino. Both were ecstatic. My son enjoyed the well-seasoned lamb but I honestly had missed the menu description of "ground lamb," which was not what I had wanted nor expected, but my bad. The only negative was the service, which I thought was a bit unenthusiastic. The older gentleman waiting on our table didn't seem interested in taking the time to answer our questions thoroughly but, as veterans of Greek food, we found our way through. On the positive side, when we asked for a re-order of pita bread, he brought it with a scoop of skordalia, "Since you've already got hummus on the table," so positive vibes there. The space itself is dark and fairly quiet; just the place to unwind after a busy day in bustling NYC. And it's right next to the Conrad hotel, which is my favorite place to head for a nightcap. Two of us came here for lunch. They have a very decent $39 3-course option with reasonable portion sizes. I had the Greek salad, fish and sorbet. The potatoes served with the fish were particularly fantastic! The food overall was excellent and the service friendly & prompt. Because of where the restaurant is located, if you're sitting by the windows on 60th you will experience constant honking from the delusional drivers coming off the 59th St bridge who believe that will somehow make the traffic move faster. Fantastic lunch special of App, Entree plus small dessert for $32, with a $10 pinot Grigio/aperol spritz/sangria(?) supplement if you want! We came on a warm-ish spring day and they had their doors/awning open. It's worth getting here a bit earlier if you're looking for a window seat during the lunch rush. Food is pretty good. I enjoyed the complimentary bread + hummus(maybe?). The dips were all pretty good and pretty large quantity, especially the tzatziki. Salmon tartare was great as well, though my wife said their dishes might have been smaller than what she remembered. Branzino is tasty as well, though also on the smaller side. For dessert, the baklava is fine. Could use more nuts and be more crunchy. The pineapple sorbet was pretty good. Service was also decent. We didn't have to wait too long for anything but some of the wait staff just seemed like they were unhappy or didn't want to be there. Birthday celebration for two besties - right away it's gonna be great. We are always comfortable at Anassa but today it's special. Fried zucchini + eggplant is a delight, impossibly thin and yummy, tzatziki slathered or plain. Avocad toast with a poached egg is a perfect textural and flavor blend. My friends had the phyllo wrapped spinach pie, a novel preparation that really sings, and a feta salad with shrimp that looked perfect. Red and white wine just right. Dessert was cappuccino, baklava with a tiny scoop of silky ice cream, a Greek yogurt and berry topping that mimicked a sundae. service was attentive and professional. best of all we lingered with joy and friendship. read more

My friends and I came for Restaurant Week. I like Restaurant week because it helps me determine whether or not I want to return to a place and actually spend on various other items. Well the food was okay. We kept having to ask for things so that was annoying. At one point the server seemed to needed to be waved down and then towards the end it was like they were rushing us out. That wasn't thrilling. Anyways, we each chose a different option from the menu: For appetizers: one classic greek salad without tomato, one octopus and one truffle salmon tartare. I had the salad and it was fresh and delicious! I tried the octopus and was pretty okay. For the entrees: one the organic chicken ehich came with oregano fries and a side of tzatziki, one seafood risotto and one branzino with Saffron risotto. We all liked the food well enough but thought it could have been more in some way. I ordered the organic chicken which as mentioned also came with a side of tzatziki and the oregano fries. The fries were good and the chicken was mainly seasoned on the outside so the inside was a bit bland but not dry which was good. Dessert: we all chose the baklava over the sorbet. That was very good too. Not overly flakey and 'all bak with no lava' as I tend to say. That we all enjoyed. Then a damper on the experience for me was I had my own travel utensils and in the rush for them to gather our stuff and get us out of there I think one of the bus boys may have accidentally picked up my dessert spoon. It's definitely noticeable as being different because it's rainbow metallic colored. When I called about it I was pretty much rushed off the phone and told they wouldn't know or threw it away. I'm not sure if it's because the waiter saw that I only had a specific amount applied as a tip on my card but 1) that shouldn't be a factor in treatment of your guests and 2) whether he realized it or not, since only a certain amount was able to be charged to my card that day (because of a fraud issue I was dealing with), my friends added additional to their tip to offset the difference of what I could not include with mine. It's solid Greek right next to the 59th St Bloomingdales. The service is solid as is the fare but nothing really stands out. That said, all of our dishes were pretty good and we did appreciate the endless refills on the pita bread (which was excellent when paired with the hummus and dips). I would recommend starting with the octopus and salmon tartare and then going with the fresh fish, lobster spaghetti, or snapper (any of the seafood dishes) vs the meat entrees. We ordered two iced lattes, that were frankly pretty bad, they were very bland and tasted watered down. They also came in these tall glasses, and the provided straws were too short to drink with... The free bread and hummus was yummy. We ordered Avocado toast and spiced lamb kebab platter as entrees, and they were both good enough. The avocado toast was light, and the spiced lamb kebab platter was a lot of food so good to share for two people. The staff was nice and the service was good. Not my first time here but time and time this spot. Love that it's 2 levels and has high ceilings. Food has always been solid pre-pandemic so I'm visiting to see if it's still as good as I remembered. It's a little sad many restaurants didn't survive the pandemic but many that did have lowered their quality from table settings, food, service, etc. from their pre-pandemic days - Glad that's not this spot. It was a relatively quiet for dinner the day before Thanksgiving day. The service was pretty friendly but could be a tad bit more attentive and check on tables a little more - Multiple tables had to flag down a waiter to order food and 2 tables (arrived after I did) even had someone get up to find a waiter to order. We've been here in NYC for the last 8 days and this restaurant blew me away. We've been going around town and eating best recs from locals, friends, instagram, Yelp. We somehow stumbled across the restaurant bc I needed to use bathroom and it was super busy from the outside area but the indoor ambiance looked spacious and inviting. Luckily we got seated right away before the crowd came. We ordered the trio sauce (3 for $21). SO WORTH IT, but the restaurant already serves complimentary olive oil toasted bread and hummus - which my fiance loved! Salmon was ok. would recommend medium + or well done. A Must-Try in Midtown Manhattan!! I had an incredible dining experience at Anassa! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was beautiful and inviting. The staff was warm and attentive! But the real star??? The food! Everything we ordered was unbelievably fresh and flavorful.. truly some of the best I've had. Each dish was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. I genuinely can't stop thinking about it. Some of my favorite bites: fried calamari, tirokafteri spread, the meatballs, the Anassa chips, cheese saganaki, the Horiatiki salad, grilled octopus, lamb kebabs and the Lavraki. For drinks, I recommend the espresso martini. It's one of the best I've ever had! Highly recommend to anyone looking for top-notch Greek food in the city. The Astoria location has my heart, but decided to come to the Manhattan one to give them a shot. Came here for Restaurant Week with the girls. I got there a bit early was greeted at the door and I took a seat at the bar to wait for my other friends. I got the Ms. Onassis drink which was tasty. Once my friends came it took a bit of a while to close out my tab for my 1 drink as the bartender was getting busy. Once we sat down we got water right away. Our waiter did explain the RW menu along with the up-charge of certain dishes on it. We all opted for different appetizers: Greek Salad, Truffle Salmon Tartar and the $12 up-charge Grilled Octopus. The octopus was not what I was envisioning as it did not look or taste grilled, it was thinly cut and I guess I was expecting a whole piece of octopus like I get back in most Greek restaurants. For Entrees: Seafood Risotto, Organic Chicken, and the Bronzino. Portions were rather small, Bronzino was filet which was nice but again I guess I was expecting a whole fish like most Greek places do. All an all the food quality and portions were alright, not sure if it was because it was restaurant week menu or not. Throughout the meal our waiter either disappeared or was on his phone by the POS system, we had to ask the food runners for whatever we needed or were missing because of this. We asked for extra bread and the food runners told the waiter who seemed to disregard the request and many minutes later we kindly asked the waiter again. We all got the Baklava which was perfect I would say, 2 tiny bite sized portions to end the night. The waiter only came to our table about 2xs thought the whole meal to check on us. Once we go desert he didn't even ask if we wanted another drink or coffee or anything else for that matter and the check was dropped off. We felt rush and unwanted which kinda made the experience not the best when we clearly would see other tables get more attention than ours. As of the restaurant decor it self it's really cute, they have a whole set up of a fruit/veggie stand inside. 1 single tv for those who want to watch a game or something. Thinking about it now I will stick to my original location because I never once encountered any issues if anything they check on me rather often there...maybe I just expected the same from here. read more

We seat upstairs, four of us, the waiters come to our table and say, you only can order food at the same time because we are so busy, so the chef can send it all together, so the food should be at the table at the same time, but no, and of course we say that's fine, then the appetizer come first, we wait a little bit main course come, was amazing, BUT our waitress she come to take our order AND that's was the last time we saw her and she showed up WHEN we just wanted to leave, and asked us if we wanted any desert, we asked the busboy some season, he said I let the waiter know that you need something, but no, we get it! maybe just the busy season, all great just the service, a little bit poor, it feels like I went a place that you come to eat, so eat and leave no ambience at all. read more

On 12/16/25 I visited Anassa Taverna around 5 PM. It was almost empty when I arrived, but almost full when I left. I was seated at a nice window seat, and the service was good, but I found the food to be average and expensive. I ordered a glass of chardonnay, which was good, salmon tartar and Greek coffee. Although I can't really fault the food, I've had better for less money. Guess people are paying for the location. Don't plan to return. read more

I've passed by this place so many times and finally had a chance to try it out during restaurant week. We came in on a Friday night, and it was packed. Reservations are highly recommended. Despite how busy it was, our server was great and pretty on top of things. For appetizers, we had the Greek salad, octopus, and shrimp. I'm a huge fan of octopus, and this cooked perfectly it was not chewy, but certain pieces were just too salty. The shrimp was good, but the salad was the best of the three. For the main course, 2 of us ordered the organic chicken, and my friend got the artic char. I had a slow moment when I realized that Arctic Char was a type of fish and not a vegetable, as I assumed. The chicken was just ok, a bit on the dry side, even though it was seasoned well. I was not a fan of the French fries they were too thick and undercooked. The fish was absolutely delicious! I really wish I would have ordered that instead of the chicken. For dessert, we tried the sorbet and baklava, nothing special about either one. Despite this being restaurant week, we ended up paying close to $400 for the 3 us, including the tip. Even with inflation, this was overpriced, and they even charged an extra $3 for tzatziki sauce, which a place with such prices should not be charging extra for sauce like you're at McDonald's. read more

I was here for a superday lunch, great time, great vibes and atmosphere for a semi-professional chat setting. They started with bread and hummus for apps, bread wasn't my favorite as it was a bit too hard for my liking, but the hummus and spreads here are really good, especially the Tzatziki platter appetizer. We got the pre-fix menu, a great price for app, main course, and small dessert. I got the Meatballs for app, lamb kebab and fries for entre, and babka for dessert. We also ordered the honey grilled Halloumi on the side, which I really enjoyed. Cheese with an orange zest and honey hit with a steak like texture was delicious, must get. We were looking for a last minute place to grab a bite and came across this place , here's how it went .... They have great Hummus and the food was really good , tried their Island Salmon and the Lamb Kebab , both very good . The place is kind of fancy but they have some decor that makes it look more like a grocery store than a restaurant , they have a nice bar but the bar is not big enough and the bartenders weren't really that pleasant ..
