My only regret after visiting Shoo Shoo was not ordering more food. Everyone who works here tries incredibly hard. They are warm and kind, which matches the ambiance of this restaurant. The food was good, but we were very upset about all the extra charges for basic items. For example, I asked for olive oil with my hummus and salad and was charged extra without being informed beforehand. The hummus plate came with only one pita cut into four pieces, which was not enough for such a large plate. When we asked for more pita, we received just one additional pita cut into four pieces and were charged an extra $4-5 without being informed beforehand . We also asked for spicy sauce and were charged extra for a very small portion again without being informed beforehand . Bottom line: the food was good, but nothing spectacular. It was very overpriced, especially with all the unnecessary extra charges that were never explained in advance. I contacted the manager and shared our concerns, but he did not really listen and, of course, did not remove any of the charges. read more

Such a great spot! This opened up pretty recently on the Upper East Side and I was so excited that it was arriving uptown. It is just as beautiful and delicious as the downtown location but even bigger! The hostesses were welcoming and the waitstaff very nice as well. We started with some tea and the hummus as well as Caesar salad. Everything was delicious. It was a big portion of each and the Caesar salad had a great lemony taste to it. The beyond harissa burger was delicious and had a great add on of Gruyère cheese. The schnitzel was super crispy and really was the star of the show. Absolutely wonderful experience. After frequenting the Nolita location many times I was so excited to learn that Shoo Shoo was coming to my neighborhood! I can confidently say that after tonight's visit I am so happy that they did. The quality is there the service is there and we had an absolutely wonderful meal. We started with the Israeli chopped salad and the baba ghanoush which we're both great. For my main I had the shakshuka which was very good as well and I genuinely have no notes. Honestly, something that many restaurants fail to recognize the importance of is the challah that goes with the shak but I'm so happy that Shoo Shoo aced it and it was one of the best challah slices I've had in a while. After spending time in Israel, I definitely consider myself a person with pretty high standards for Israeli food and Shoo Shoo definitely meets the mark. The food was great but the indoor space and service was meh. They have a time frame expected for your size party on Resy, which even though I agree with, I felt it was tacky to actually write it out. When I finished eating I felt rushed and I couldn't help to think of the time frame they have posted on the reservation site lol. We asked to sit on booth (there were only 3 tables taken in the entire room) but we were told they were reserved. I noticed that well into an hour into our early dinner the room was still mostly empty and some of those tables remained empty even after we were done with our meal, so that didn't sit well with me, it felt more strategic than efficient. I dined at Shoo Shoo UES for the first time last night and was pleased with the experience overall. Around 9:00pm the restaurant was busy and quite loud, however, the food and service were very good. I do wish it wasn't so hard to hear the person on the other side of the table, but it is what it is. Ordered: Moroccan Mint Tea ($16)- we ordered a large pot. It had fresh mint leaves, raw honey and rose water. I'm really not fond of rose in my food or drinks but this tea was enjoyable. The rose wasn't too strong. Hummus ($15)- this was one of the better hummus' I've tried in NYC. It was creamy, sesame-forward and balanced. They give you one pita which really isn't enough given the portion of the hummus. Extra pitas are $2 each. Japanese Eggplant ($21)- this was the one dish worth writing home about. Wow. With the freshness from the watercress, salty and briney flavor from the feta, sweetness from the silan, smoothness from the super tender Japanese eggplant- this dish was my favorite. I felt the price was high given the portion size. Chicken schnitzel ($29)- the schnitzel (thigh) was moist which was so appreciated! There's nothing worse than a dry chicken breast cutlet. It was sesame crusted with a generous amount of sesame seeds. It was crispy and not too too greasy. I think I'd order it again. We couldn't decide between fries and mashed potatoes so we ordered both. The mashed potatoes were so rich, smooth and creamy. I loved them! The fries were also tasty but weren't anything special. Baklava ($8 for 3 pieces)- the baklava was good, a little syrupy but not so much so. I prefer the ones I get at bakeries in Astoria but it was a nice way to end the meal on a sweet note. I enjoyed my visit to Shoo Shoo! The food was very good and the service was even better. Shoo Shoo East is one of the best new openings on the Upper East Side and it's not slowing down. I've genuinely loved everything I've had here. The dips, hummus, labneh, baba ganoush, are all incredible and a must to start. The lamb arayes are these delicious little spicy, savory, egg roll type things. But the Mademoiselle fish balls are a must have, these incredible fish meatballs in a red sauce with just the right amount of spice. Every time I walk by someone is eating the shoo shoo schitzel and i see why, its fantastic but I keep coming back for the chicken shawarma for some of the most tender and flavorful chicken I've had anywhere. Generous portions, a great wine list, and a staff that's really on top of it. Can be a splurge but absolutely worth it for a night out. Met up with friends here for brunch on a Saturday. They were accommodating to an infant stroller at our table and even lowered the loud music a bit which was nice. Service was attentive and friendly. Checked out this new Shoo Shoo location in the UES and had a great, satisfying meal! It was packed on a weeknight but I still managed to get a reservation. Started off with their version of baba ganoush. It's chunkier than others I've hard, and less creamy, but I liked the flavors and seasoning overall. The addition of the harissa added a nice kick. The warm pita was solid. For mains, the branzino schnitzel was simultaneously crispy and flaky with well-seasoned and nicely fried fish. Love how it wasnt too dry and went well with their tartar sauce. The harissa burger was good too. Patty was tender, well seasoned. The Israeli pickles offered more savoriness which I enjoyed (instead of the tartness that traditional pickles typically brings). I did feel like I had to add additional harissa sauce to get more of those pepper flavors nevertheless. The shoestring fries were tasty and crispy! We got the roasted cauliflower as our veggie side. While I wish it had more of a char flavor, it paired well with the citrus flavors and the light tahini sauce. I really wanted to try the hot pistachio knafeh but we were so full since portions are pretty big. The space is pretty big with two areas. The front features the bar with more lounge vibes while the back has more regular tables. Staff were polite. Food came pretty quick! read more

Dined here for the first time and found it extraordinary. Wish Yelp enabled me to leave more than 5 stars!! This is a new restaurant that recently opened on the upper east side as an addition to a restaurant already existing downtown. The space is large, well appointed and comfortable. Service is absolutely amazing. A large is staff available to tend to every need without being overly obtrusive and the owner takes a personal interest in meeting with customers. There is an excellent wine list and a variety of top shelf spirits. We tried one of their specialty cocktails (Es Vedra) and found it very satisfying. The appetizers are easily shared and awesome. The hummus is thick and served warm -which brings out the flavor - and nicely seasoned. The Japanese eggplant appetizer was a very unique dish which was our favorite. We also ordered the Lamb Rague appetizer as an entree. The meat was tender and tasty. The grilled branzino was excellent, cooked and seasoned just right. The food was delicious. My daughter and I started w the lamb ragu and the pita style bread it came with was perfect. We shared the Branzino which I don't usually get in a Mediterranean restaurant. It was so flavorful. It came on a bed of mashed potatoes and green beans and tomatoes. And of course we had to have our favorite food...the Israeli pickles. I want to go back to the restaurant now. My wife and I were underwhelmed this evening while dining at the recently-opened UES location. The Great: warm hummus; mint lemonade; pita; mashed potatoes. The Fair: Grilled Branzino (dry); green beans (undercooked) and Cheesecake (more Sara Lee than Eileen's Special). The Not Good: the small chicken schnitzel was abysmal. Preparing it from a chicken thigh -- and not a chicken breast -- was (I guess) an inventive culinary choice, but we found it to be all wrong. It was thin and tasteless, and the absence of any real flavors could not be saved by an accompanying sauce & mustard and sesame seeds. When I asked our lovely waitress why the chicken schnitzel wasn't prepared as it is in Israel, she offered that the restaurant was actually mostly Mediterranean and not typical Israeli. Really? The Shoo Shoo website itself describes it as having an ..."emphasis on Tel Avivian Staples". So although the noun "Israel" is skillfully absent from the paragraph, we do know where Tel Aviv is. Plus, "Shoo Shoo" is an Israeli slang expression, and the restaurants' founders are Israeli, so there is no need to pretend that the place is Greek or Turkish. We already have plenty of those in the neighborhood. All in all, a great disappointment, but I'm certain that Shoo Shoo East will do very well. One more (important!) thing: the rooms are (unsurprisingly) very dark and extremely noisy. We could barely hear one another speak, and left after 75 minutes. read more

When we arrived at Shoo Shoo excited to try this place for the first time on the UES, we were told that "an hour earlier," their grill had broken down. In other words, the only thing available on their menu was, effectively, salads. Obviously a grill breaking is outside of Shoo Shoo's control. The reason for the one-star review relates to what was in their control. First, they should've used their reservation system to notify all upcoming reservations that the restaurant was essentially no longer functioning. They didn't do that, presumably because they didn't want to lose the business. Second, the service was horrendous. It took us 20 minutes after being seated to actually learn of the grill problem. That's because our waitress couldn't possibly give us the time of day--let alone a glass of water. Third, when we expressed disappointment about basically being trapped into a crappy meal, the server sent over a "manager" who was completely indignant about the situation and offered no accommodations of any kind. Talk about a missed opportunity for customer service. We'll never go back. read more

I am a huge foodie and head up Global events for a fortune 200 company so travel all the time and often find myself at restaurants all over the world, some of which are Michelin star and some are just special hole in the wall finds. I ate at SHOO SHOO UES for my first time and had one of the worst meals I've Ever had and believe I got a mild case of food poisoning. STAY AWAY! Cauliflower Caesar tasted like soggy water lettuce, over dressed and a small bite of cauliflower. The schnitzel was over fried like at a fast food restaurant with zero flavor b/c all you could taste was the oil and overcooked chicken. I wouldn't even give this restaurant a star. It was starting to fill up at 5pm attesting to its allure. We only had one tiny meal there. So we don't feel qualified to weigh in on its culinary attributes. The Moroccan type tea was amazing. We are hummus freaks and quite picky. Shoo's version was delightful with a piquant shug atop along w excellent pita. There are diverse choices on the menu which likely contains some super selections. I want to start out saying that the food was absolutely delicious and our server was SO nice!! I do have a few minor issues with the flow of service, but nothing that would stop me from returning or from recommending this restaurant. I truly loved the food, even if this singular experience was a little off. The restaurant is much larger than it initially appears, with a huge back room as well as the bar and seating in the front. The back room was a little louder when we were there, which may have just been the particular crowd. We started with the Moroccan mint tea which was delicious but the first pour was not quite steeped enough. Then we ordered our starter, the falafel salad over yogurt, and entree, the fish schnitzel with fries, (we were sharing both dishes) as well as a side of green beans. Unfortunately, all the food came at once, but our server was so sweet to remove the main course and bring us a new one later. However, when our starter was cleared, the new main course was presented without new silverware or plates so it took a few minutes to flag someone down for those. It was a busy night and perhaps our order was confusing. The dishes were all tasty and one starter, one main and an additional side were the perfect amount for the two of us. The menu has a wonderful variety of vegetarian, meat and fish options as well as gluten free options and everything was labeled clearly for easy ordering. The restaurant was lively and the lighting dim, making it feel both fun and cozy. Having eaten here in December just after the restaurant opened we were very impressed. Unfortunately, this time around was rather disappointing, not so much the food but the service. When we asked our server if we could replace the anchovy dressing for the Caesar salad, he said the only option was with Tahini, which we agreed to. Nevertheless, , when the check came there was an eight dollar charge for a small plate of Tahini, which we didn't feel was right. Throughout the server server seemed indifferent and uninterested and even cleared the plates while I was still eating the appetizers. If this restaurant wants to last, they seriously need to consider better service than what we had this evening. read more

We just got home from trying out Shoo Shoo East, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish! This gem truly delivers on incredible flavor and exceptional service. What a great addition to the neighborhood! We started with the Arayes, and they were outstanding--juicy, perfectly seasoned, and served with a creamy tehina and grilled tomatoes and pepper that offered a nice, spicy kick. For our main courses, the Chicken Schnitzel and the Grouper Shawarma were delicious. Everything we tasted was bursting with terrific, complex flavor without being overly spicy or heavy. And as good as everything else was, we couldn't stop eating the Herbed French Fries that came with the shnitzel! They are truly amazing, fresh, full of natural potato flavor, and perfectly seasoned with lemon, parsley, and salt. Do not skip them! The service throughout the evening was particularly impressive. The wait staff was attentive, water was refilled frequently without us ever having to ask, and everything was delivered promptly. Our waitress, Jovana, was terrific--knowledgeable, friendly, and truly enhanced our dining experience. It's clear that Manager Koby knows how to run a top-tier establishment; the entire staff was so friendly and professional. Finally, we were thrilled that even though the restaurant was about three-quarters full, the noise level was perfectly acceptable. We could actually have a comfortable conversation, which is a rare and welcome feature!
