This quiet, unassuming cafe on Broadway is a hidden gem. There isn't much signage or decor and even the menu doesn't raise your expectations too much (the old photos almost make the food look bad) but when the actual dish arrives, you'll find out that it's a flavor bomb. We got the roti with chicken to share as an afternoon snack and it was just perfect. The chicken and coconut sauce were excellent but the flaky, crispy, not-too-oily roti was the true star of the show! Can't wait to come back and try more variants ... This place is on my list for awhile and we came for Sunday brunch. By 11, the place was mostly filled but service was fast. The portion is decent size for the price in the area, and the flavors pretty good for clean and healthy food. Highly recommend! read more

The roti here at Aman cafe is to die for. You will find dishes centered on perfectly crispy, flaky roti. I would particularly recommend the tropical roti, which comes with roti and a coconutty curry sauce with vegan meat. The Thai tea nice complements the meals here too. Great brunch spot! read more

This place was so tasty! 100% halal menu, which is great for those with dietary restrictions. They have a ton of seating inside, with very nice interior design. There is metered parking, and I went during brunch/lunch time and had no issues. Food was served hot and I could tell all ingredients were fresh. I've had these place bookmarked for a couple weeks and glad I finally got to try it out. I highly recommend trying the Breakfast Roti. It is the perfect brunch/lunch option. You won't be disappointed! read more

I couldn't stop thinking about that meal after I had it!! IT WAS SO GOOD. The roti was perfectly warm and flaky, the curry sauce was so delicious, and the wok-tossed veggies and chicken was so good, especially the creamy potatoes! I think the Roti Comfort name is perfect because this was definitely a comfort meal. The service is also friendly and the ambiance is cozy and on the quieter side. There were mainly groups of 1-2 when I came. read more

Holy mackerel. Immaculate. Incredible. The most delicious curry I've had in so, so, so, so long. Roti comfort chicken, oh my goodness. Noon on a Sunday. Not busy. I'm coming again and again. Perfect portion size, super clean restaurant. I just don't know what more you could want. There was an avocado in there and I saw it and was like what? And the texture just made sense. It was just an enlightening experience. The roti was definitely the best roti I've had period. Flaky, wonderful. The sauce on the side was so delicious, just sweet enough. Good taste but not too healthy. Heavy and carb heavy and rich. The women working there was really helpful. She was the first person in all my years of going to restaurants that adjusted the uneven table. I have always had to do that myself but she was really sweet. This may have been the best part of my visit. Food good but heavy on carbs and rich. Taste great , vegan options. Nice space but a bit stuff and hot. read more

A very interesting take on a Malaysian staple -- roti canai (flatbread). To be clear, this isn't regular Malaysian cuisine, it's fusion. But with that said, it's very good! There is the basic roti in every offering and it's pretty good. Thicker and flaky, with a side of curry dipping sauce which is also good albeit a little on the smaller side. Then you can order a range of different dishes that goes with the roti. We got the Breakfast (for lunch, cos why not?) and the Tropical. I asked them to spice up the Tropical which they obliged. Both came with a side of avocado and orange slices. We washed it all down with a mango lassi which was thick and rich. The positions were huge and we had to take the remnants to go. I love that they offered a lot of vegan options and some cool looking smoothies. Looking forward to try some of the other offerings soon. read more

In town from a far away state and chose to eat at Aman after surfing yelp reviews for this area of Oakland, CA. Meter parking was readily available right out front so we could keep an eye out for the smash and grab desperados that everyone has warned us about here in the Bay multiple times a day, every day. It was opening time, 10:30 am so the well designed restaurant was empty and welcoming us in to sample what we hoped would be a tasty brunch of Malay food. However, it ended up being more Malay-lite and lacking the flavors that typically make you smile and give that feeling of warmth with every bite. Younger woman/older teen working the counter was indifferent to us as her first customers of the day. I normally do not care about the mood of the server as long as the food is slamming and they don't make the experience negative, but my wife called this inattentiveness out almost immediately which ended up being a premonition of the so, so experience with the food. She was nice but seemed to be either shy or just a quiet person. Nothing for me to complain about there. It was just interesting that the food was underwhelming like our greeting. Headed to the restroom to wash hands and sanitize before ordering and to my surprise, it had not been cleaned before opening the restaurant. We were the first customers of the day and the bathroom was dirty. Not filthy with unflushed toilets or paper on the floor, but clearly no surfaces (including sink, floor, or toilette has seen a rag, mop or bleach that morning. No fresh and clean smell to be found. Mango Lassies were delicious. Kinda hard to get mango puree and yogurt wrong, but the 'Garlic Chicken Noodles' ... Where was the garlic? The bigger question was WHERE WAS THE CHICKEN? The dish didn't have much garlic flavor to them and the amount of protein offered in this dish would only be acceptable to a vegetarian ( who could've easily avoided the 8 chicken pieces hidden amongst the noodles and stick to their abstinence from flesh without guilt). Flavor was unimpressive, as well. Had to be less than 2 g of chicken in that bowl. My wife had a tasty, yet basic crispy rice bowl with extra stringbeans, broccoli + coconut milk, something she has made at home on a whim and it easily matched the flavor of this dish without a doubt (and she's not Malaysian). The rice and veggies actually needed a little salt to give it some taste, so not sure who's afraid of a little flavor here, but she said that her rice bowl was decent after she requested soy sauce. West Coast prices are clearly more expensive than east cost prices down south, so no surprise there. I know flavor when I taste it and for the price, the lack of spices and taste made this brunch a disappointment. All's not lost, though. The Roti may be a better option since many of the reviews seem to reflect a better experience from our own at Aman's, but don't expect to be WOWed! If you're just looking for something quick for take out that isn't fried rice, broccoli in garlic sauce, and General Tso's, Aman Cafe will give you just that for take out dining. I need more effort in my Malay dishes. read more

Amazing food with a blend of flavors! Try the grilled chicken in the curry sauces. There are hints of Thai, Nepalese, and Indian in it. There are also poori and fresh vegetables that give it a Mediterranean flavor. Definitely will repeat this place! Tons of seats and food came out quick. read more

Just had their Roti Comfort dish with tofu and vegetables. I can't speak to the location since it was takeout, but they were fast and everything was packaged well. The price was reasonable for a moderately sized lunch plate. The Malaysian roti canai was perfect: flaky and buttery, not oily. The vegetables in their creamy coconut curry were an interesting blend, and the avocado slice was a nice touch. While the coconut curry was tasty, it was really mild; I think I'll order the Tropical Roti next time (advertised as having a "spicy coconut sauce"). read more

I've been meaning to check this place out for a while and I'm glad I did. It was really delicious, it reminded me of Caribbean roti/Indian roti curry dishes that I grew up eating. I ordered the tropical roti that had vegan meat, veggies and avocado. It was surprisingly filling. I will definitely come again and try out the sweet rotis read more

Aman is located close to many things but on an aesthetically uninviting stretch of Broadway. As if there was an aesthetically pleasing stretch of Broadway in this town that snatches defeat from the jaws of victory every opportunity it gets. As we prepared to encounter the fare proffered we realized that Mis en Place in Berkeley had closed and I searched up an article that served as a monthly death count for Oakland and Berkeley restaurants and it was such a drag. Why are they dying? Are they dying bc if they aren't convenient for you to get a gig worker to deliver your food then you're not going to patronize them? You do realize, don't you, that if you don't ever leave your house and support the places you love that they will die, don't you? Maybe you don't. That's unfortunate. So this then is a call to arms for people that aren't afraid to go outside. Go outside in the morning. Come here. Get your roti breakfast on. The space is kind of spartan but still comfortable. The people that make your food and bring it to your table are super nice, super polite, genuinely concerned about your meal and your well being. And the two dishes we shared - roti comfort w chicken and roti breakfast - were delicious. Perfect portions for a really good price. Filled me as much as I'd want a late morning meal to fill me. Come here. Come here and help them win. Small businesses are fearless and need equally fearless people to make them go. You can do this, couch-dwellers. Put the app away and leave your dwelling. Amazing new spot in Oakland servin' up roti in a savory or sweet form for either breakfast or lunch! Vegans, vegetarians, and chicken lovers all welcome. Aman Cafe occupies the space right next to Teni East Kitchen and serves up a mean, filling roti. I went for lunch today and find myself stuffed but very, very content. The menu is a bit limited, but not devoid of choices & makes choosing so much easier- everything is also very reasonably priced for the meal you get. I ordered a roti comfort with chicken, and my partner got a tropical roti- both looked pretty similar, with the tropical roti containing vegan meat. We got these to go and got em in a super earth-friendly packaged bowl & plastic bag (along with the utensils). We also got a Thai tea because it was $2 and who could pass that up? The roti is super flaky and holds the filling well (chicken, curry-like sauce, veggies & avocado), and comes with a dip (looks like a coconut milky curry?). I loved the mushrooms & bok choy in the filling and wish I had more of those. Everything was flavorful & delicious, and you'd be a sucker to miss out on this place. My only wish is they had roti with condensed milk & Milo powder, but I think it's probably better they didn't. I'll definitely be back for more savory roti and to try their sweet ones. Solid 3.5. Quick service. The food was plentiful and piping hot. I found the flavors to be a little lackluster. No strong aromatics that would elevate the dish. The vegetables were well cooked, but the egg seemed to have e been steamed instead of being fried, which was different texturally. Roti was super flakey and incredibly chewy and crispy. A great little place with a quiet vibe, where you can escape a bit and have a conversation with a good friend, without shouting. All the quality you'd expect from their parent restaurant, Teni East, next door. The Roti Comfort is one of those dishes I can eat 2-3 times a week, and be very happy. A generous portion of roti canai, flaky and buttery, accompanied by a small nesting bowl full of curry sauce. Equally a star is the dish of tofu veggies and coconut curry that goes with it. Service is minimal, as you order from the counter, and they bring it to you. No photo, I ate it all before I had the chance! read more

The food was phenomenal. We ordered the first comfort veggie entree and a the tea leaf salad...super yummy!! The Roti is a good size and super flaky. Everything seems really fresh. The 5/5 is well deserved!! Order at the counter. Hot tip: the garlic noodles made our whole table go "oooooh!" Literal hot tip: if you get the Vietnamese drip coffee, carefully test the saucer at the base of the filter (not the plate saucer) *before* moving it off of the cup. I recommend placing the coffee filter metal portion on the saucer and setting your cup on the table bc the filter will continue to drip a little. Parking can be challenging and the parking popo love to ticket on Broadway. The space is small but inviting and can accommodate larger parties ( saw a group of 15!) What a great new find ! My partner had been trying to get me to check this place out for a few months and finally made it. Although the menu is sparse what they offer is really good. We were their first breakfast and decided on the Roti Breakfast (mixed veggies, vegan sausage, fried egg and avocado) and Zag Roti (banana, condensed milk). Both were super delicious and were enough for two to share. The roti itself was prefect; crispy, soft and buttery. There was a side sauce for the savory dish that was also really good. The Zag Roti was more like a dessert and kinda looked like a pancake with bananas on top. If you like roti or are being adventurous please give this a try ! read more

Quick friendly service that was not only courteous, but bore gifts of delightfully delicious food. I had the Comfort Roti with tofu and it was scrumptious. The roti was divine and the tofu and vegetables were perfectly seasoned and stewed together for a really satisfying colder weather lunch. Weather be damned, I still ordered a Thai Ice Tea and chaded my meal with it. It was also spot on. If you are in the area or heading to Kaiser Oakland, make time for this place. A remarkable breakfast full of flavor and made fresh. If I lived closer, this would be a regular breakfast for me, breakfast meetings and to bring friends from out of town. The sweet selection included the Aman Roti with Fruit, which came with sliced strawberries, bananas, and blueberries along with drizzles of condensed milk and nigella seeds. 4.3. Excellent roti w curry on the Roti comfort chicken. The veggies inside are flavorful w ? Sweet potato/carrot potatoes and other. The Thai ice tea supplemented to good flavors. Dish was large enough to split w two w an added bowl of rice w the roti that came with it. I would give this place more stars if I could! Utterly delicious and filling for quite the decent price. I had the comfort roti and a Thai iced tea. I got my roti with chicken, and my friend got the same thing but vegan. Both of us devoured our meals with gusto and we were totally full afterwards. The ambience is chill and hip without trying too hard. The person at the counter was patient and knowledgeable/helpful as we decided what to eat. I plan to go back for sure. read more

What are the hours of operation? Yelp says 8-3 but I went Tuesday around 9 and they weren't open, and I drove by them on a Thursday around 4 and they were still open. I'm excited to try this place!

We asked one of our servers if he had a light as I brought a little candle to celebrate my friend's birthday, and as he lit it, he also decided to join in with us as we sang happy birthday, which I thought was really sweet. He did not have to do. He even got other tables around us to sing happy birthday as well. It felt like a special moment for my friend, which was a nice surprise. FUN FACT: I learned recently that hojicha lattes have more caffeine than loose leaf teas because lattes use crushed whole leaf powder, so you're consuming the whole leaf rather than steeped tea leaves. With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). Smaller menu than your typical hole-in-the-wall with 25-30 items including AZN fusion items like shrimp ceviche, kimchi pasta and tom yum pasta. Beer, wine, and soju cocktails available. F O O D * Bò Tái Chanh: Beef Carpaccio w/ Thai basil, fried shallot, house tangerine sauce ($18): https://tinyurl.com/nhcn9kxw - Served at dinner only Fresh, tender slices of beef carpaccio with a sweetness from the tangerine sauce and white onions. I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Also, was hoping for more smoky wok hei flavor. * Thịt Kho Tàu: Braised Pork Belly w/ hard boiled eggs, rice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/mr2evryw - Includes bowl of rice A traditional dish served during Lunar New Year, it symbolizes prosperity, warmth, and stability. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. Food does take awhile tho...our first dish took about 30 minutes to arrive. A M B I A N C E Casual, no-frills indoor area with about 10-12 tables. Cute covered patio in the parking lot with 5 tables and fairy lights. Overall, Mẹ Và Con is a great place to introduce people that are new to Viet cuisine and/or you're looking for Viet dishes with different twist.

Got an iced horchata latte and loved it! Also got an almond croissant which was a bit mushy, but…read morenot too bad! Also got banana bread which was also okay. Good space that has plenty of seating. Staff were pleasant. Not sure if they had wifi though!

Tierra Mia Coffee is a wonderful cafe with delicious drinks and pastries that bring the community…read moretogether. As I came on a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty busy and bustling. The baristas and workers have a great system in place to keep moving orders along. There is plenty of seating inside, but it does get pretty cramped with the large crowd rush. I decided to try the mazapan peanut frappe as I love mazapan and was intrigued by how it would taste in a drink. I was pleasantly surprised by how creamy and sweet it was! The peanut gives a slight salty and nutty flavor profile to the drink. I really enjoyed it! Overall, I would love to come back and try more of their drinks!
