I know it's all the rage and viral. That's why we went. But to be honest...it's a lot of food and like pretty mediocre. But you're not going for amazing quality and flavor. The cheesecake with the fruit compote had like 2-3 blueberries. And maybe a teaspoon of the sauce. The one thing we wanted that wasn't plentiful. Proportions are over the top. I've had Amano saved in my back pocket for a while now for an easy date night, given it's convenient location on the North side. Finally, tonight we were indecisive and decided to give it a try. The location isn't the prettiest from the outside. It's in a weird, gas station-adjacent strip mall. Inside is a surprisingly cozy, eclectic, and casual Italian diner. We made use of the paper mats and colored pencils. I see now why they recommend reservations; Amano is very intimate. We shared the Pasta Pie-zoni, made with the Cindy and the carbonara. The pizza was decent, although I hoped for a more pungent flavor from the gorgonzola and pesto. I couldn't even taste them over the overpowering sweetness from the balsamic glaze and dates. The pasta filled calzone portion was fun. Very salty, soft pasta (not al dente), and dough crusted with parmesean. The highlight was definitely the crust. Not too thick nor too thin, with good flavor and marinara for dipping. The pie-zoni is great for a family of 3 or two very hungry adults. The tiramisu was pretty disappointing, and I'd just skip dessert here altogether. Amano's serves novelty dishes rather than authentic or classy Italian. The food was delicious! The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. This place is pretty small so a reservation is recommended especially for a weekend. I went with a party of 7 and we were luckily there was enough tables to accommodate that size available. My kids loves the colored pencils and blank paper all the tables had on the tables for just casual drawings, it's looks like if you draw something super cool they might even put it on their wall. The fettuccine carbonara fat baby was separated into multiple containers of bread, pasta (with sauce on it to keep it from being dry), and extra sauce with cheese to pour over and recreate the full experience. From the greeter to the waitress (Brigette I believe) and the guys that were on the bakery side, they never stopped smiling and were so sweet. As for the food we got fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and carbonara fat babies. The bread was amazing. To me it tasted like sourdough. The pasta and sauce was really good just needed the slightest bit of pepper but I was not a huge fan of the chicken that was $10 more. I'm recommending only because the food was not bad. For a local Italian place it was ok. They could expand on the seafood on the menu as they only have Clams and shrimp. Shrimp is farm raised so I didn't eat but my dude did. I guess folks really like those cone pasta dishes which seemed to be popular. I had the baked ziti it was ok, I've had better. Came on a Tuesday night, the place was packed. While we waited we looked over the menu, so that once we got seated we can order right away. Let me tell you something, we left not bloated at all and not gorged. You can tell that they made their food fresh. The fat baby was their high highest recommendation from word-of-mouth and as well through Yelp. I highly recommend getting it for the whole table as it was plenty for the three of us to share. Their pizza dough is it speechless. It's light, airy, and I found myself dipping the pizza crust into the fettuccine Alfredo sauce. Lastly, we ordered dessert, I have never in my entire life and enjoyed a dessert than I did at this place. Ordered zeppole were nicely, warmed coated with perfect powdered sugar, and the chocolate sauce certainly made its debut. This is a dessert you cannot miss!! granted this place is almost an hour out of where I live, (Henderson) but I will make the drive to come back to eat their fabulous food. Food was great but it can def be pricey once you start making supplements and additions. I got a pizza fat baby which is a $12 addition but I really wanted the marinara sauce to pare with the fettuccine sauce that you get from the other pastas. Again, it actually turned out pretty good but for one dish of carbs I dunno if it should end up being over $40 without "premium" or expensive ingredients which it really wasn't. Beyond that I did enjoy my fat baby and I do recommend coming out to give this spot a chance. You woke think carb on carbs would've really work but it was quite tasty. Ordering was easy and the guy who helped carry out the food did a double check to make sure everything was in our order to avoid any frustration of missing items. We had 6 entrees Spaghetti and meatballs Lasagna Chicken parm Chicken piccata Chicken saltimboca Fettuccine Alfredo Fat Baby We also ordered an antipasto to share. The antipasto was amazing! Looked beautiful and tasted great! The portions for the entrees were huge! Sauces were tasty. I've never had saltimboca with a red sauce and if I were to order it again I'd probably ask for a different sauce. The red sauce was too strong flavor for that chicken, in my opinion. Although the sauce was very good! The pasta with the chicken dishes was a bit overcooked making the noodles almost mushy but still edible. The piccata was also very tasty. I came for the Fat Baby, and it did not disappoint! Found the infamous Fat Baby on Instagram and had to try it. It's off the strip about 15 minutes, but you better plan to make the drive. Ordered the fettuccini Alfredo Fat Baby and the spaghetti and meatball one. They come in a GIANT garlic and parm seasoned hoagie that is crispy outside and so soft inside. They shove it full of delicious pasta and drizzle a hearty portion of cheese over top. So good, it will make you slap your pappy and scream "yee haw!" I was excited to try this place as it is close to my home. Unfortunately I ignored a previous wanting from A neighbor, who told me she did not recommend it as she and her family didn't like the food or service, but in our search for a close italain place we decided to try it anyways, as we know sometimes a place can have an off night. The hostess wasn't very friendly or welcoming, but she wasn't rude, so we just chaulked that up to her young age. The place is super small, about 10 tables and reservations are suggested. We didn't know, so didn't mind waiting the 20 minutes quoted. But you have to wait outside as they have no area to stand. So we waitedin the car, and 35 minutes later we got the call a table is ready. I went to the bathroom to wash up, and that was my first redflag as the bathroom was filthy. Dirty surfaces, trash on the floor, an unfluahed clogged toilet and the TP roll on the floor. When I got back to our table, I had to ask one of the waiters to wipe the food off my chair before I could sit down. Our server was nice enough, but lacked service in the sense she wasn't welcoming, and didn't check on us, refill waters, or thank us at the end. We were party of 3 adults, and each ordered a meal, 2 appetizers and a water and 2 lemonades. We got two waters and one lemonade instead, but my son decided to just keep the water and not say anything as the wait staff all seemed very stressed and rushed and he didn't want to bother to correct our server. Our appetizers, salad and food all came out at the same time, which made you feel rushed as again, this is a tiny place with little room for people or servers to move between tables and we'd rather enjoy each item in stages. I asked for no onions in my salad, and there were onions, so I didn't eat that. My son's each ate theirs and said the dressing was very fishy tasting which was odd for an Italian dressing and not a cesarr dressing, and that the greens were wilted and the beans mushy. So not enjoyable. I asked ahead before we ordered the calamiari if the spicy component listed was in the batter or sprinkled on as I can't tolerate spices, and she said it's a sauce that's on the side. But my first bite was a friend jalapeno and that sent me into a coughing fit and I then noticed that all the fried rings are a mix of the calmiara and bits of fried jalapeno, so another item I couldn't eat, and a painful experience for me as that was a harsh bite for someone with a spice intolerance. I asked 2 people for a water refill and it took the third ask to get it. We also ordered the mushroom garlic bread, and although I see how this would've been good in theory, they missed the mark as the bread was under baked and drenched in the oil and mushy and messy. Our meals arrived and NONE were enjoyable! The one thing that madeit even hard to eat and not look asappealing is they use the smallest salad plates for the meal and you have some of it spilling off the sides and no room to swirl your food to eat, and oil drips with every move , so bigger plates are a must. The linguine with clams, not only had no noticeable clams or clam pieces, but was saltier than McDonald's fries! Which if this were fries it would be okay! But to salt that dish was a shame as it ruined it! Seasoning would've been okay but, as weeach took a bite at my son's insistence to see if it were just his taste buds or not, we all luterky gagged at the level of salt in this, and the lack of clams. We asked for a lot of lemons, to help counter the salt so he could try to eat his dish and we got 4 tiny chopped slices which made no Difference or help to that dish. My shrimp scampi consisted of 4 small shrimps, which ironically were cold even though the pasta was hot. Expecting more shrimp was aet down, but they were cold and rubbery anyways and the scampi sauce had zero flavour and was more just oil in the pound of pasta under my 4 shrimp. I did not enoy this dish! The last dish of shrimp Alfredo came out as chicken Alfredo, and again my son didn't correct the server as he was hungry and overall just wanted to get through the meal and leave. Sadly his Alfredo sauce was very gummy and sticky and also salted so he optedoit of enjoying parmesan cheese on it as that would make it even saltier. All in all our bill was $150, which was about $100 more than this was worth , and that's being generous! We would not eat here again, and like our neighbors, we will be sure to stand by not recommending it. read more
