Iced Americano, Pistachio Cortado & Iced Hazelnut Latte

I would definitely recommend Amapola! Whenever I try a new coffee shop my first choice is always American so I can taste the flavor of the coffee clearly and their coffee is absolutely delicious, did not feel uncomfortable or that burn in my throat. The girls are great, very professional and responsible. I will definitely visit to try the pastry :))

The best pistachio iced latte I've ever had. It was just the right amount of sweetness and I loved that the espresso was still very much prominent. Also ordered an iced banana matcha latte and it was so well made . The banana syrup was fresh-- not artificial. The spinach quiche and banana nut muffin were also so good. I loved that the muffin had chunks of banana in it. Was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of ingredients.

I wish I had liked this coffee shop better because it's so close to my friends' place, but I think their lattes were just okay. I got a matcha latte and it's definitely not very authentic and was too sweet. My friend's latte was also more sugar and milk than coffee.

My review is solely about their hours and lack of availability. I've only had it once and I liked it and since then I haven't been able to have it ever again. I showed up on a Wednesday 7:30 am to find a sign saying no one was in until 1030??? Like please be so forreal. Then after checking Google and Yelp I arrive on a Monday at 9am only to find that the store is completely closed on this day. Yelp and Google still say it's open. I always like to try a place at least twice before I leave a review. The one matcha I had was great however the establishments business practices with time are atrocious. I've tried to have it 3x in 2 weeks with no luck. So if you can actually get here on a day SOMEONE is working or it's actually open you won't be disappointed. I however have been disappointed the last 2 weeks coming here with this place and it's operating hours.

Shoutout to Maddy for recommending this spot! Immediately went the next day after she told me lol! This is located in a small parking lot on Vanowen and Balboa (behind Lee's Coffee House). Although the parking is small, it was pretty empty when we went that morning! Seemed like all of the other businesses were closed? We were also the only ones in the cafe too. Greeted by two lovely young ladies, I immediately noticed the cute decor and seating arrangement. They have a few tables and seating outside as well! I ordered an iced Dulce de Leche latte and took a look at their pastry case. Not sure how often they change them but they had quite a bit of everything! None of them have any names or signs so you kind of just have to point and ask what each one is. The everything danish immediately caught my eye so I definitely had to order it, warmed up of course! My bf got a cake slice of something and I cannot remember the flavor name! The drink and pastry didn't take long at all, took some photos outside and took everything home to enjoy. I did take a few bites before driving off and man was it incredible. An everything danish?!? How has this not been thought of before? lol SO delicious and looking forward to coming back just for that! The latte was a bit basic but had a good strong/sweet balance so I'd get it again. Looking forward to coming back! IG: @ammysalamii

I have given this coffee shop one too many chances but they continue to disappoint. This morning I call it quits after I paid $7 for a stale chocolate almond croissant.

Iced Pistachio Matcha Latte with White Chocolate Cold Foam

Easy parking with a small lot, and the shop itself is a cute little spot. I ordered the Pistachio Matcha Latte with white chocolate cold foam and almond milk. It was a bit on the pricey side, but honestly, the drink was really enjoyable. The cold foam was so yummy and not overly sweet, which I really appreciated. I do wish the matcha flavor was stronger. I also loved that they topped it with real pistachios, such a thoughtful touch that made it feel more elevated. On top of that, the barista was incredibly kind, which always makes the experience better. Definitely a nice spot if you're in the area!

Amapola is the cutest woman owned cafe in Lake Balboa! The staff are super friendly and the space is gorgeous and filled with natural light. Everything we ordered was so good too! The salmon toast tasted like a bagel lox, but on sourdough bread and the crepes and breakfast sliders were delicious too. The owner mentioned they make their pistachio cream homemade as well! If you're in the area be sure to try them. I plan to return!

Nice little coffee shop with seating inside & outside where you can come sit for a while to get work done or have a meeting. The coffee is great! Not too sweet and perfectly strong. The girl taking our order was kind and patient since it was our first time here. We also tried a couple of their food items & they were delicious! Would definitely come back and try some different coffees and snacks. For reference, we ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee and an iced cortado & both drinks were 10/10

Extra charge to warm up?! It was still cold!!!

Such a cute little coffee spot! Loved the cozy, welcoming vibe as soon as we walked in. The staff was super friendly, I didn't catch her name, but the woman at the register was so helpful and patient while I decided, and she really helped me pick out the perfect drink. I ordered the honey pistachio matcha and it was delicious, sweet, nutty, and just the right balance. My husband got the Amapola latte and said it was pretty good, not too sweet and just right. We also tried the bacon quiche and the mushroom quiche. My mushroom quiche was warm, flavorful, and really satisfying. Unfortunately, my husband's bacon quiche was just kinda cold and he mentioned there wasn't enough bacon for his taste. Also they charge a fee to have them warmed up! A big letdown there.

    Maddy M.

The service at Amapola was exceptional and the pastries tasted so fresh. I loved the mushroom frittata and the blueberry muffin. The muffin was so moist. I'm not usually a frittata person, but wow. They have a bacon and spinach one as well. Seriously some of the best pastries I have had at any local coffee shop in the area. There is a big menu of coffee and other drinks to choose from. The coffee shop itself is very cute with seating inside and outside. It feels relaxed and elegant but still casual. I also liked that they are open late and they said they were hoping to have live music in the future! I will definitely be back! So happy they are open now.

Parking is a real struggle, very limited lot, so be prepared to circle around or park in the nearby residential area and walk. Drinks: I ordered the White Chocolate Lavender latte, sweet and floral, but my husband found it too sugary. He got the Black Heart latte, which he said was strong and bold, though I could barely taste anything in it (probably because my drink was so sweet, it killed my palate!). So maybe order based on your sweetness tolerance. Food: We shared a butter croissant, which was just okay, my husband called it "plain," and I'd agree. Nothing special. Seating: The inside was packed, but we managed to grab a spot at a long communal table. They do have a few outdoor seats too if you prefer fresh air. Overall, it's a cozy spot with a cool interior, but come with patience for parking and know your drink order might lean extreme one way or the other. We'll probably give it one more try with different drinks.

This location is the newest (only about a year or so?) of the three. Each store has a similar and yet distinct style/focus. This shop is located on the ground level of an apartment/leasing space, so if you're not looking for it, it can be missed/mistaken. Parking at first glance also seems difficult but don't worry, there's plenty in the parking garage behind the shop/ below the apartment building. The shop itself is beautiful! Compared to the other two locations, this location is most spacious; There's outdoor seating as well and indoor seating. It's pretty family friendly and equally accommodating to students/working professionals who need a place to do some work. There's a grab and go section, for those who need a quick bite as well as some food items- pastries and burritos. Overall, the environment is pretty relaxed and chill. As far as drinks go, I've tried several- everything from the drip, pour overs, espresso shots, americanos, sweet lattes, and pictured, both matcha and einspanner dreams from the last time I came with my husband and parents. Pricing is fair but most importantly, all their drinks are good! The espresso is good consistently which in turn makes all their coffee drinks delicious. All the speciality drinks are not overly sweet and well balanced, unless requested. Specifically from the last visit, the vanilla cream on top of the einspanner/matcha dreams were to die for. My husband, who isn't a coffee drinker also mentioned how good the matcha was, even with almond milk (he's lactose). If you want to venture out/explore something out of the usual drip or americano, I recommend the einspanner or matcha dream drinks! Besides the good coffee, all the Houseroots locations are set apart by their hospitality, and this shop is unparalleled. Every time I've come to grab a cup on my way to visit my parents or for an afternoon pick me up, all the baristas have been welcoming and warm. Northridge is always a treat, can't wait to come back when in the area!
