Love this place. No pretension, just a well balanced drink you can ask for be it matcha, latte or their cold brew. The crew are friendly and the place is clean. I personally love my matcha drinks. I can go from hot to cold, sweetened or that matcha dream with all that banana foam goodness. Then I'll switch it up to a nice hot chocolate or when I am feeling adventurous, I would go for that cold brew to give me an extra kick when I need the boost. Then, I would, once in a while have a plain latte made to perfection especially when the doming action and froth makes my drink just how I craved for
My daughter and I came here for afternoon coffee, She got the lavender latte and I got the sweet latte, both very delicious. Great customer service, very fast, the shop was very clean and organized, they had some pastries, and they also had some juices. Very close to the college. There was no street parking so we found a parking lot at the corner and parked there and just walked a little bit to get our coffees .
The lavender latte was good but already lukewarm when I am called to pick it up. The bear claw was terrible, hard and not even tasty almond or apple filling. I asked if it was apple or almond filling. The person said it was both. I didn't taste any apple. It was just almond filling. It was not bread/pain not croissant-like pastries. Just a hard bread as if it has been sitting there for days. The pesto tomato pastry was decent, crusty and layered that the bear claw was not. I might come back for the latte and matcha. Not sure on the pastries. I have had better pastries.
Such a delicious cup of Americano here! You can tell a lot about a coffee shop based on their Espresso and Americano, distilling coffee to its purest unadulterated form, and not hiding behind sweet sugar, foamy milk, and flavored syrup. The House Roots Coffee Valley Blend that they use for their Espresso is rich and layered. It's not merely "coffee-tasting." Any good Americano that comes from excellent beans should be more than just that. The hints of peach and hazelnut is most noticeable at first, while the lingering taste evolves to unsweetened chocolate. The selection of whole beans are also really good, making it hard to choose from. I have had a few of their Single Origin bags before, and while they are honestly more difficult to wrangle consistency in flavor and taste when pulling a shot of espresso at home (Single Origin can be like this), the results are worth it. This time around, I'm going to try a new bag I have not tried, the Ethiopia Uraga Gogogu (Landraces Washed) from Guji. Tasting notes are Candied Melon Dried Cherry, and Oolong Tea. The aroma is already so good, so I can't wait to try this at home!
I went to this location during the soft opening and it was good! It's been awhile since I came back and I will say, I feel like they changed their recipes to some items or changed a manufacturer of some sort. I usually get an Iced Matcha Latte - sweetened with oat milk. When I used to get it, the latte with dull green and tasted yummy. I got a good mix of matcha and oat milk. When I got it this past week, it tasted much more grassy although the color was more vibrant. I will say I think I preferred the old way they used to make the drink. Also the scones they sell are still pretty good! I do look and taste just a tad different but they are overall good. They do have a good seating area to study if you are student going to CSUN. Also staff are very sweet.
Matcha and Coffee both taste like sweeten milk. I could barely taste the matcha in my drink. For what you're paying for, I would rather go around to re:coffee where you can taste the coffee and matcha as opposed to just sweeten milk. $8 for a light green drink. Sure the place is clean and organized, but my intentions are just to order and leave. I don't really care about the seating.
Tried this spot for the first time. Nice chill vibe. They have a few tables and bench seating. Parking is terrible but theres a close plaza with parking within walking distance. Staff was nice. No restroom though fyi. Theres complimentary water as well. Ordered orange truffle latte. Really good. Hot and the orange is subtle but it's a nice combination of flavor. Some might want the orange to be stronger but I liked it. Thank you!
This is the third location location I've been to and I believe it's the newest. It's a much larger spot and right next to CSUN so good size for all the college students needing their caffeine fix or study session. Parking in the street seems hopeless but you can easily find parking at the shopping center next door. The coffee at House Roots is good- true to the bean and their drinks are consistently not too sweet. They have seasonal drinks as well which is always a fun surprise. Today I tried their toasted pecan latte and it was nutty and again not too sweet, good quality coffee here. I haven't tried any of their baked goods yet or hot food aka burritos but that's next on the list!
Sunday afternoon rainy weather what do I get ? An iced latte with cold foam. Rain or shine I love an iced coffee. My first time at this location and wow it's so big. The other two locations I have been to are smaller, this is great lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Right next to CSUN. I'm sure the students love it here. I sure did. Freshly baked goods (you serve yourself and take it to the register to pay) Delicious coffee and matcha drinks , good customer service.
Found about House Roots Coffee on a Sunday morning while running errands. So happy to run into House Roots Coffee and discover their menu and coffee drinks. Customer service here is also great. The young lady at the counter along with the barista were pleasant. House Roots Coffee is a pretty good size coffee shop and just a short walk to the next door parking lot. The shop has plenty of seating options both outside and inside the coffee shop. They also have a bar like seating inside. As soon as you walk into the shop the sweet smell of coffee greets you. The place is spacious and very nicely decorated for the holidays. There's a Christmas tree in the corner with ornaments and lights. The counter is also festively decorated with a banner that says Merry Christmas. You can definitely feel the warmth and spirit of the holidays once you walk in. Love the vibe and ambiance of House Roots Coffee. It's our first time at House Roots Coffee. We wanted to try their Signature Mocha Latte and Seasonal Orange Truffle Latte. Both coffee drinks were equally delicious and up to par. The Signature Mocha Latte was tasteful and you can taste the espresso and mocha blend. It was good and not too strong. My favorite is the Orange Truffle Latte. This was a tasteful coffee drink. Not many coffee houses can perfect an Orange Truffle Latte taste. It's late with orange cardamom chocolate syrup garnished with powdered cocoa. I will order this drink again and we look forward to trying other coffee drinks on House Roots Coffee menu.
In my opinion I wasn't impressed with their regular coffee. I always try that first when I go to a new place most of the time. My house coffee was bitter and sour. Not sure I'd get that again. I might give it another chance and try something else. Service excellent. Ambiance is casual. Parking available in structure.
I ordered their ceremonial grade matcha latte w/ oatmilk, less sweet with extra matcha powder as I saw people mentioned how their standard matcha is too sweet and you weren't able to taste the matcha as much. Im glad I did because I can definitely taste more of the matcha umami notes, though I have had places with better matcha-to-milk ratio without having to alter the recipe so I would suggest tweaking the recipe if lots of customers express the same opinion. Fyi, They do charge you more for extra matcha & milk substitute. Overall, it is a minimalistic, clean cafe with few seats inside, but more seating outside! They had friendly workers who made our drinks pretty quick.
Been getting their coffee for years! Started with their original location up in Granada Hills and then moved on to Chatsworth which was perfect for our daily commute to work. Parking lot is bigger there too. But I think this one takes the cake!! This location is absolutely beautiful! So much open space and love the amount of outdoor seating! They have seats out front and on the side in a kind of patio area. The staff are friendly and they make the drinks fast which is what they are known for. The quality of their drinks doesn't get compromised! Love their salted butterscotch latte but I decided to try their Einspanner Latte this time and was not disappointed!! Make sure to mix it well. Strong coffee with a hint of savory from their salted vanilla cold foam. Perfection and even have the biggest parking lol! They're right next to the shopping center where they have Panda, bb.q, and other shops. Easily walkable and convenient! Can't wait to visit again and try their other drinks. This review is long overdue. I've been a House Roots regular since they opened their SFV shop many years ago and frequent the bakery as well. This location is the newest (only about a year or so?) of the three. Each store has a similar and yet distinct style/focus. This shop is located on the ground level of an apartment/leasing space, so if you're not looking for it, it can be missed/mistaken. Parking at first glance also seems difficult but don't worry, there's plenty in the parking garage behind the shop/ below the apartment building. The shop itself is beautiful! Compared to the other two locations, this location is most spacious; There's outdoor seating as well and indoor seating. It's pretty family friendly and equally accommodating to students/working professionals who need a place to do some work. There's a grab and go section, for those who need a quick bite as well as some food items- pastries and burritos. Overall, the environment is pretty relaxed and chill. As far as drinks go, I've tried several- everything from the drip, pour overs, espresso shots, americanos, sweet lattes, and pictured, both matcha and einspanner dreams from the last time I came with my husband and parents. Pricing is fair but most importantly, all their drinks are good! The espresso is good consistently which in turn makes all their coffee drinks delicious. All the speciality drinks are not overly sweet and well balanced, unless requested. Specifically from the last visit, the vanilla cream on top of the einspanner/matcha dreams were to die for. My husband, who isn't a coffee drinker also mentioned how good the matcha was, even with almond milk (he's lactose). If you want to venture out/explore something out of the usual drip or americano, I recommend the einspanner or matcha dream drinks! Besides the good coffee, all the Houseroots locations are set apart by their hospitality, and this shop is unparalleled. Every time I've come to grab a cup on my way to visit my parents or for an afternoon pick me up, all the baristas have been welcoming and warm. Northridge is always a treat, can't wait to come back when in the area! read more

House Roots Coffee is one of my favorite coffee spots. My go-to drink is the Eispeiner Dream--the coffee has an amazing aroma, and the salted cream foam on top is perfectly balanced, adding just the right amount of richness without being overly salty or sweet. I love it so much that I regularly buy their Valley Blend coffee beans to make coffee at home whenever I can't make it to the shop. The quality is consistently great, and the flavor is always satisfying. Another thing I really like is their outdoor seating area. They have plenty of tables outside, making it a comfortable place to relax, or catch up with friends. read more

I love the other locations so decided to check this one out. Service is friendly just like the others and drinks and pastries delicious This location the pastry case is self serve so that way you can snag what you want before waiting in line to order There is seating inside and out and outside was nice and relaxing. There is some parking on the street but it looks like on a busy day it may be tough to snag a spot Will definitely return read more

Cute little spot tucked into a new apartment complex, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. I ordered the salted butterscotch latte and really enjoyed it. It was flavorful but not too sweet, which I appreciated. My husband got the choconana dream and said it was pretty light overall. He could really taste the banana toward the end, mostly because of the actual banana chunks mixed in. We also split the chorizo burrito, super tasty, great flavor. My only tip: be careful when you bite in. It was very hot temperature-wise (not spicy), so give it a minute to cool down unless you want to burn your mouth like we did! The one downside was the service. After taking our order, the guy pretty much ignored us when we tried to ask for a digital receipt. Not the friendliest vibe. Overall, the food and drinks were good, but the staff could be a bit more attentive. read more
Decided to try this spot after my friend recommended it to me. Absolutely BLOWN away. I'm not one to finish my bevs mostly because I get full quickly and some places serve their drinks terribly too sweet for me. But this one??? I could not get enough. Best coffee I've ever had! read more
HOUSE ROOTS' 3RD location is officially open! Ordered their Einspanner for the first time ever and it is absolutely positively delicious! The Lavender Matcha is also very good. The Cortado was not too tart, more creamy and chocolatey than usual. The Spinach Feta pastry was sooooo flaky and buttery. It's like there was an extra layer of butter at the bottom and at the top and it's good butter too. The Cheddar Chive Scone is also as solid and dependable as usual. I realize the line was super long on their grand opening Saturday, but it went by pretty quick -- for the length. I am very glad to report that there is a LOT of space outside and some inside to sit down and enjoy your coffee. This branch is located at the bottom of the newly-built apartment building. read more
Ordered the Rocky's ceremonial matcha latte and it came super milky and very light green in color. The only flavor I could taste was milk. Very dissapointed since the drink was a bit over $7 and all I could taste was milk - I tried to sip a lot more of the drink (as per the picture) to see if I could get a hint of matcha or anything, but no luck. Not sure if I came on a bad day or something - the cafe was completely empty. I definitely reccomend Peak Cafe for matcha instead. Very bummed. Street parking is also very limited. read more

This location popped up on my Yelp feed yesterday and I had to stop by this morning. I ordered a sweet latte with oat milk and it was perfection. I LOVE how smooth their coffee tastes. I also ordered a corn buttermilk biscuit- also delicious. I'm a sucker for sweet and salty pastries and this one came with a raspberry jam on the side. Can't wait to come back again, looking forward to trying other items on their menu. Service was excellent, the ambiance is lovely and there's plenty of outdoor seating. Great place to work from if the weather is nice. read more

Another new cafe from House Roots, still residing up north. Rated pretty high on Yelp surely left me feeling missed out not yet trying it. Visiting it on a sunny weekend last week, the outdoor only seats were probably not my besties as hanging there for awhile with that temperature was highly challenging for me. Thanks to my Raspberry Financier and though, for making the 'stand-the-heat' moment worthy. Flawlessly crunchy shell with fragrant and tasty almond raspberry filling. I also got their Salted Butterscotch Latte, whose aromatic coffee flavor I was fond of. I was bit surprised looking at the barista making my coffee when he literally sprinkled salt into his mixing cup, but I got my second surprise when it actually tasted nice. Well yeah, the beverage first name did call out salted LOL (I was just prolly not expecting that salt-sprinkling moment). read more
Their dream matcha latte is a solid 9/10. The salted vanilla cold foam is phenomenal. For this specific drink, they use Rocky's matcha so do expect for it to be a creamy texture and subtle in flavor. I personally would prefer a bit stronger of a matcha profile, however I do think the drink is well balanced as is. I also tried the Korean braised pork burrito. It was okay... I felt like it lacked depth in flavor, which was disappointing considering the flavor packed, yet balanced, ingredient list. Their red hot sauce (housemade?) added a much needed flavor contrast to the overall dish. Be warned though, it packs a punch read more
Cool local cafe with high quality matcha. I tried the Matcha Dream w / oatmilk. It was made very quickly, which made me wonder, but the drink itself had a strong matcha flavor overall with a faintly sweet vanilla cream top. There's plenty of outdoor seating and it's just a quick walk from CSUN. I look forward to trying their pastries and other matcha beverages on the menu. I recommend! read more

I was looking for a coffee shop serving good single-origin coffee, and since this spot was close to my final destination, I decided to stop in. It's a small, cozy shop with a welcoming vibe, and the baristas were all very friendly. They took the time to explain my drip coffee options, which I appreciated, and helped me make a great choice. I also ordered the bacon and chive scone--very tasty overall, though it could have used just a touch more salt to really elevate the flavor. The coffee, however, was absolutely on point, with rich chocolate and subtle fruity notes that made it a standout cup. I'd definitely come back again for some java in the near future. read more

My favorite of the 3 locations, lots of seating and super chill atmosphere. Quality across the board, care and craftsmanship go into each cup. Burritos are big enough to share, baked goods are amazing. The baristas seem extra nice too. read more
