Again, late to the party since One Bite Cafe at the Lake Forest Park Town Center has been open for…read morenearly two years. I'm a creature of habit and often stuck to the other side of the complex. I did not realize that One Bite Cafe took over the former Great Harvest Bread. I had checked out One Bite Cafe before in Seattle's Roosevelt neighborhood out of curiosity regarding croffles, but it didn't not leave a lasting impression at the time (open since 2019, with that visit in July 2022). However, when The College Friend set up a meet up at the Lake Forest Park site yesterday (open since May 2022, this visit on 4/9/26). There is an interior entry from the two level retail area and an exterior entry adjacent to the big shared parking lot. It took me a few tries until I found a spot. I was kindly greeted upon entry while the counter person was assisting the customer ahead of me. I ordered and paid directly on the convenient touch screen kiosk located to the left of the main register. I liked the interior transformation. Lots of onsite seating configurations and pleasant decor. Overhead music played the Beatles, which was a pleasant surprise. The wrap around pastry cases with well placed menu placards showed the variety of menu offerings. There's a wide variety of bevs, sweet and savory pastries, desserts, sandwiches, and even gluten free items from NuFlours. I ordered a 22oz iced classic milk tea with 75% sweetness and no toppings, plus some Korean sausage bread. The College Friend decided on a toasted Reuben with chips. We also shared a Portuguese egg tart. We were onsite for three hours. I noticed a constant stream of customers who also dined onsite, as well as, folks getting items to go. I appreciated observing the consistent pleasant and helpful counter staff, all with welcoming smiles! I learned that One Bite Cafe has grown to four sites: Seattle/Roosevelt, Lake Forest Park, Woodinville, and Federal Way. That's great to see ongoing success for this local, indie cafe chain. Lake Forest Park Town Center is lucky to have a variety of cafe, bar, and restaurant destinations. One Bite Cafe gets a collective 5 star for this first time visit.

Ice cream flavors are a mixture of classics, and things like cardamom and matcha, providing interest and not just oddball spices for the sake of quirkiness. As far as I can tell, Always Summer isn't part of a chain, but the look and feel of the space is very polished and coordinated. Between their merch display, and the forest of ice cream scoops hanging from the ceiling, the design aesthetic stands out. The people behind the counter were friendly and efficient, just what you would hope for in this type of establishment.

They even had a gulab jamun inspired ice cream, which really caught my attention. There were four of us, so we ordered a sundae with a brownie and two scoops of ice cream - it was generous and easily enough to share. It was my first time having a brownie served warm with ice cream, and I absolutely loved that touch. The fruit flavors were especially enjoyable, particularly the mango and banana chocolate chip. The cardamom flavor was a bit overpowering for my taste, but the mango was definitely a standout. The staff were incredibly patient and let us sample as many flavors as we wanted, all with a smile. I'll definitely be coming back!

After finding out about Chocolate Man, I…read moredecided to hold a couverture tasting session with some friends and went to Chocolate Man as my first stop. This shop, located right under Third Place Commons, smells heavenly. The rich aroma of melted chocolate seeps out of the store throughout what seems to be the entire mall. Chcoolate Man sells a wide variety of feves/disks, chocolate sculptures, truffles, confections - basically anything a chocolate lover could want. I especially love how they have smaller 1/2 pound bags instead of most high end shops that sell a minimum of 1 pound or 500g. It's great for someone who just wants a bit for tastings and for snacking on afterwards! They also have samples of everything to help decide. For our final tasting, we went with eight types of couverture (three from Chocolate Man) and four types of typical grocery store chocolate chips. Guittard Onyx 72% ($8.31 per half pound) - I tried this one but didn't buy it. This chocolate gives a really intense dark chocolate flavor. Very single note on my tongue. Think of a high quality dark chocolate blend, but amp up that flavor by 5x. It seems great for recipes that just need a really strong dark chocolate flavor without too much complexity. Felchlin Maracaibo 65% ($21.46 per half pound) - It starts off with a bit of a flowery and perfumy aroma, then descends into a very pleasing balanced acidity and smoothness, combined with a bit of a spiced flavor. It's an excellent snacking chip. My favorite of the entire array of 12. Ranked 1/12 Guittard Coucher du Soleil 72% ($9.70 per half pound) - Definitely a darker chocolate, less sweet with pleasing astringency, maybe a little smoky, smooth with some slight red fruit notes on the finish. It's a little strange because the taste between different chips varies a little, with some being more fruity than others. I'm not sure what the cause is. It's a good snacking chip that never gets tiresome to eat and it seems to be good for recipes that require a high quality chocolate that's generally neutral flavored with only slight complexity. Ranked 4/12 Valrhona Manjari 64% ($20.99 per half pound) - Starts with pleasing cocoa flavor but then a second or two later develops an intensely tangy berry flavor that spreads throughout the entire mouth. The flavor is so strong that I find it very difficult to eat more than one feve at a time. It's definitely more of a sipping chip than snacking. Ranked 5/12 Chocolate Man is a fantastic store for any chocolate lover. They even have a little stamp rewards card for freebies every $100 spent. I'll definitely be back for more in the future.

However, they were much sweeter than I prefer. Out of everything I tried, the double chocolate cake was my favorite because it had the richest flavor. My only complaint is the sweetness. I wish there were an option to make the frosting or cream less sweet, as that would have made the desserts much more enjoyable for my taste. Overall, it's a good spot if you have a sweet tooth and are looking for reasonably priced cakes.
