We have not been to Castrost for a few years. So surprise to see the closures of Ryowa and Maruichi Ramen. But, so pleased that Amarin still stands strong. Did not get a chance to try it in the past and very glad we were able to last night We were very skeptic since we saw so many occupied table and only 1 server. But, Our PadKeemao, Panang Beef, Spicy Garlic Shrimp came out at a very appropriate time. I'm impressed. Padkeemao- We asked for Thai Spicy and got the American Spicy. The chewiness of the noodle was perfect. All veggies and meats were crispy and tender. Is it authentically Thai? Plus, $19 for a noodle dishHmmmmm.,...7/10 Spicy Garlic Shrimp- We asked for Thai Spicy and we got it! Please order this. You only get 6 big shrimps and lots of veggies for $25. But, for the quality, this may worth it. We asked for cut ups chilies and fish sauce and drizzled it on top. This dish was perfect. .......9/10 Panang Beef Not too spicy for a Thai Spicy. Taste wise, this dish only had one note in our tongue. Sweet and that's it. I asked for beef. I did not think they took it as the short rib. And added the premium charge. I cant bear to put the price here. Just know, it expensive....2/10 I know that everything is pricey now. But, $98.00 for 3 dishes in a Thai restaurant was shocking. read more

Love the food here but it is on the pricy side. The shop is inside the downtown. I really liked the pork neck! Will go back just for that. There are seatings outside too. Reserved this place for a team dinner. Food tasted pretty good, but overpriced. I had the spicy garlic prawns and it was $26 for 6 small-medium sized farm raised Costco shrimp. Nothing like the huge prawns you see in Thailand. Customer service is lacking. My coworker ordered something non-spicy, and it still came out spicy anyways, and they didn't offer to remake it. The lady even scolded my coworker for ordering it. We were finishing up the meal, and at first the old dude (I'm assuming the owner) tried to do some passive stuff to get us to leave, like clearing our table and packing up our leftovers even though we didn't ask for that yet. When it was clear we weren't ready to leave, he then sent over the server to ask us to leave, instead doing it himself. Way to put your server in that position. read more

I've been coming to this family restaurant for over 20 YEARS and they never disappoint! Food is phenomenal (I literally can't eat pad thai anywhere else) and the owners are a family of absolutely wonderful people. This restaurant has a beautiful ambience and kind service always! It always feels good to spend my money here vs a place where they don't really care about the customers or user experience, they just want numbers. Food is mediocre and staffs are not friendly. First time here asked for food recommendation, she's so impatient and rushed us to order food immediately. She recommended the mussaman curry, it's so sweet, not spicy and thick gravy, doesn't have the curry kick. The roti was delicious but the peanut sauce was not a good match. She didn't even asked us if we were allergic to peanut. Also there's another option for the roti dipping sauce which is the curry sauce. Green curry was just okay, mango salad with fried tofu was the only one we liked. She didn't recommend that, we decided to try it. Not going back for sure. read more

Dined here recently with a party of nine people and they were very accommodating and attentive to our large group. We ordered nine different dishes and the flavors of each dish were quite tasty and authentic. The only drawback was we received our entrees and had to ask for the rice and we also ordered fried rice and it was one of the last dishes to arrive...we would have preferred it earlier in the meal. Let me start out by saying I miss the "feel" of the original location. That spot has since given way to a new restaurant. This smaller location is a touch more modern looking and probably more attractive in terms of expenses like a lower lease rate, etc. While the quality of the food appears to be unchanged, I am feeling a bit uncomfortable regarding the smaller size of the dining area, the style of plates/dishes being used to eat from and serve from. That metallic feeling when scooping my food up from my plate detracts from the dining experience. I mean, I am not here on a camping trip! What a wonderful place to share a meal with friends! The portions are large enough to share and can be ordered plant-based. We ordered larb tofu, massaman curry, tofu satay, pad seeew, som tum (papaya salad), and, of course mango with sticky rice. Great service! Checked out the second Amarin location on Castro street for the first time! Not sure why the original location was closed, but we were still glad to get our Thai food fix in. Yellow Curry -- nice coconut flavors coming through, a bit too many potatoes would've preferred more chicken Pad Kee Mao -- classic dish done well, nice balance of sweet & umami flavors Ground Pork Larb -- perfectly seasoned ground pork mixed with cilantro & mint, tasted very healthy Overall, we were all pleased with Amarin 2.0! Flavors were authentic and portions were large. Service was fast and we were seated right away. There were a few other parties inside on a weekday evening. Their second location is a bit smaller than their original, nevertheless the ambience was pleasant and homey. Portions were decently sized and reasonably priced. 3.5 Stars which Im rounding up to 4 because they're just scaling up in this new location. I tried the pad see ew and panang curry in extra spicy. I don't think they were spicy and they only had chili garlic sauce as opposed to chili oil or chili flakes. On top of that I think the pad see ew was a bit on the oilier side but neither of these are a big deal I just don't think the food was amazing. The portions were also on the slightly smaller side. I can't eat very spicy food and the spice level for this curry is perfect for me. Tons of chicken. The pad see ew is also highly recommended. The pork neck is mediocre, on the drier side even with the sauce. Price is definitely on the higher side given that it's in Mountain View downtown. One serving of jasmine rice is $2.99. The restaurant is simple, and the servers allow you to customize the spice level of your dish. Glad they have this Amarin Thai Cuisine extension at Downtown Mountain View. They offer most of the food from the main restaurant, plus more. And set up is more updated. I enjoy the satay chicken and samosas here. Been ordering them every time we go here. We tried a couple of plates too, tofu and baked chicken at separate occasions and they both are good. The plates were big servings and are very filling. The place is usually not crowded even during lunch hour, so service is fast and easy to get a table. read more

The food tasted fine, but Tom Kha Soup portion was very small for 18.99 and it came with white button mushrooms instead of oyster/straw mushrooms and didn't see usual herb garnishes. The staff was friendly and helpful at pick up. Atmosphere at this location was pretty plain, I liked dining at their previous location because of their unique ambience. I wondered if this place would be as good as #1. Unfortunately it wasn't. I felt like the chicken meat in the curry was old and tasted like it was almost spoiled. The papaya salad was the best thing that we ate. The Pad Thai was decent but I've had better elsewhere. Service was ok. They only have 1 server. She was working hard to get everything out. The place was almost empty for Friday night dinner. There was only 2 other tables eating there. Not sure if I'd make my way back here again. Came in for lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. Service was quick and friendly, and there are lots of tables inside as well as outdoor seating on Castro. The three of us ordered the pad see ew with pork, roti with curry, and tsunami seafood fried rice. The pad see ew and roti were delicious! Great flavors all around, and the roti had the perfect fluffy and buttery texture. Curry sauce wasn't spicy but was well seasoned and complemented the roti perfectly. Unfortunately the fried rice fell flat for us. While the portions of seafood were generous, I felt it was a bit too soggy for my taste. The flavor was pretty well spiced; not too hot, but also just not the flavor I was looking for. This was more than enough food for the three of us, and we had a bit leftover. The menu is quite large so I'd be curious about some of the other street food that you don't typically see at Thai restaurants in the US. read more

This used to be the famous Hong Kong Bistro that was open till late night .... Taken over by Amarin Thai (the folks here are the same Amarin Thai diagonally opposite -174 Castro that closed down after 24yrs in business, but their sign says 147 is now Amarin. The place is not spectacular or fancy like the old Amarin cross the road. This is tiny and more cafe like. My first time here so let's see! I ordered a veg fried rice and my friend ordered a crab fried rice. Prices seem a bit high for the kind of place it is. Perhaps my head has to adjust that $18 for a dish is for the fancier Amarin that closed down. The food is good, not great. It's pricey and for two with no appetizers or beverages and just the basic 2 lunch orders and tip, it's absolutely costly. Once is good, wouldn't recommend it again. read more

I went here for dinner last night with a party of 4 and we had a great time! The entrees are worth the price (they can look a little expensive on the menu but the quantities are large) and had good quality fresh ingredients. I went with my parents who are vegan and they had lots of options to choose from. We had the tofu larb, the pad see ew, masaman curry, papaya salad (Thai style) and the soy protein satay. We finished off every dish! Service was quick and friendly even on a busy Friday night. Will definitely be back with friends! My husband and I were strolling around and got hungry. Found this Thai street food restaurant and decided to try it. We ordered the beef noodle soup, grilled steak, and pork belly plate. The beef noodle soup is so delicious. It's filled with so much lean tender beef. I love it. The broth is delicious. The grilled steak is ok. Not marinated well. Still a bit beefy. It needs the dipping sauce to mask the beefiness when eating it. There's a lot of steamed vegetables that come with it, which is great. The pork belly plate is ok. My husband enjoyed it. My family loves Thai food. Thats the only non-Indian cuisine where chances, of getting vegetarian options that are flavorful, are higher. Amarin is one of my favorite places. This is the first time we were eating at this location (there is another Amarin across the road from this one on Castro). As publicized, this is more street food version. Khoa Soi is my favorite. Curry and noodles were good too. Can only say about the vegetarian entrees, they were all good. Service was very slow. When we went there was only ond person taking orders and serving. It took a long time to give the order but after that food came pretty quickly. Has both indoor & outdoor seating. Right on Castro Mtn view downtown. No parking available outside the restaurant. Have to park in one of the cross streets and walk here. read more

I'd give this place a 3.5 stars, food was either a hit or miss though (Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup were delicious). Major downside is that the portions are extremely small compared to other Thai place with the exact prices. Since we loved the Pad Thai and soup so much we had to order a second round. Our party had 8 people, so the small portions were really noticeable. I'd say we had to spend an extra $80 to get the same amount of food at other places. There are two locations on Castro Street. There's the original that also absorbed the business next to it to make one big restaurant that is still crowded. Then they opened this location across the street, Amarin Thai Street Food. This location was not crowded but it's the same delicious Thai food. We had the roti with curry dip, yum! Fried bread with curry sauce. I think this one is hard to mess up. It tastes like the same frozen paratha from grocery stores that you fry up fresh, but they all do. The curry dip is good. Panang curry with pork, red peppers, coconut milk and sweet basil. Good flavor! The pad Thai with chicken was not oily, not dry, and you mix everything together yourself. The Pad see ewe with beef came with delicious wide soft noodles and broccoli. We also had a side of brown rice. This place has plates like the chicken wing plate we ordered. It had 4 fat fried chickens wings, a side of jasmine rice, a little carrot, jicama? salad, and a green onion sauce. It was a single plate and wouldn't have fed me enough because I like to eat. We ate everything before I could take pictures. They do give a good amount of food compared to some other Thai restaurants. We plan on coming back! read more
