It's the first restaurant where I tried duck fried rice. The duck meat was ample that each bite contains it. tom yum soup is flavorsome. I tasted some at other place but was surprised in a good way on the flavor. When my sister worked around the area, we would go here. Service is exceptional in my opinion. I've ordered door dash before for this place and decided to come here to dine. We ordered: Garlic basa -- the fish is coated with yummy batter and lots of garlic. It is simply delicious. Even my boyfriend who is not a seafood fan likes the fish. Chicken in yellow curry -- very good but you can get that at any Thai restaurant. Chili rib eye- a real rib eye steak that has been char grilled and came with string beans , asparagus, and broccoli. Very impressed with the way they cooked the steak. This place is north of Castro St. on Moffet with no access back to DT MTV across Central. It's in a mostly Hispanic shopping plaza with okay parking. It's a little dim and contemporary interior. Service was good and attentive. I had the Massaman Curry (Beef), which I usually order on a first try to compare with other versions I have had and have experienced wide variability in execution, ingredients and flavor with this dish. Wifey had the Pad Thai with shrimp, which I don't care for due to the eggy flavor. The shrimp was okay, juicy and tender. My curry was above average but not in the elite category. It had good coconut flavor, the beef was very tender and plentiful but I detected no peanut; which I consider essential for this dish. It was good but not great, so no repeat. read more

Came here with some friends to catch up and get some work done. The restaurant is located next to a grocery store and has plenty of parking in the back. When I got there, it was quiet as it was after the lunch rush. There was only 1 other group besides us - and we were placed right next to them. Seeing as it wasn't crowded, I would have preferred to be seated away from the other group as they were somewhat loud. 1 star off for that. Now for the good part - all the food we ordered were delicious! Each dish was full of flavor and worked well with each other. For the 6 of us, there was plenty of food to go around and we ended up not finishing - even tho we tried really hard. I also had a Thai iced tea (of course), which was pretty good - it was slightly too sweet for me, but not too bad. Our new go to for Thai food!! We love their pad see ew, salmon tom yum, and pumpkin curry! I love that they have so many options for the protein you can put in the dishes. The tom yum with salmon is my absolute favorite. I just add some rice to it and it reminds me of sinigang. I always order this whenever I feel sick or need some comfort food. My boyfriend moved to Mountain View recently and we're now eating our way through this city. This Thai restaurant is pretty good for the area and I can see myself returning if we're too lazy to cook. It's a pretty small restaurant, but we were able to be seated right away for walk-in a Monday night dinner. Service was prompt. After we ordered our food, I went to the restroom (they have two clean restrooms) and by the time I came back, our appetizer had already arrived! So quick, the fresh summer rolls were great. My boyfriend and I then shared the pad see ew, pra ram (seafood and veggies) and pineapple fried rice. I think pretty much every party that I saw in the restaurant ordered the pineapple fried rice, it's pretty gimmicky that it comes in a pineapple but it's what makes it fun haha. It was a lot of food for the two of us and we had plenty of leftovers to take home, as I saw was the case for many other diners at this establishment. It was $100 post tax and tip for us two but with a decent amount leftover, so I would say the portion size is quite a lot for what you pay for. Which makes it worth it! My boyfriend also got a thai iced tea which was orangey and milky and hit the spot. The restaurant also has mango sticky rice for dessert but I was too full to try it this time. Came here for a late dinner as a group of 7 on Thursday around 8:30pm. The restaurant wasn't full, but there was a decent amount of folks on a weeknight. We were seated right away with no wait. ~The Food~ - Garlic Basa ($19): This was my favorite dish of the meal! This dish was fried fish with a sweet garlic sauce. This fish was so hot, definitely cooked fresh! It was super crispy, yet the fish was quite tender! Sauce was very garlic-y, perfect balance of sweet and savory. - Green Curry with Chicken ($18): There was quite a variety of veggies in this dish (asparagus, green beans, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers), and a good amount of chicken. Personally, I thought this green curry wasn't anything too special; I think the flavors were just a bit lacking, could've used a bit more spice. I think it tasted just a bit watered down for my taste. - Jasmine Rice ($2): Nothing special, but pretty good portion! ~Overall~ I would say it was not a bad Thai place, but nothing too special; I think pricing wise, I think some of the dishes felt a bit overpriced. Decent Thai food. The Green curry with Roti was nice, the Lemongrass & kaffir lime flavors were pretty fresh & authentic. Fish cakes were huge, but had a rubbery texture. The wild ginger & peppercorn was tasty, but over sauced & the fried fish peices got lost in the mix - main ingredient cannot be overshadowed. Nice gem just a block from downtown Mountain View. Street parking and a parking lot behind it. We went on 8pm on a Friday and it wasn't busy. Staff were friendly, and patient waiting for our full party. I wish I could remember what everyone else got because it all was very good. We had summer rolls and crab Rangoon rings very delicious, could eat a bucket of the rings. Pad Thai w/ beef and crispy pork belly spot on. The yellow curry was tasty, only wish it was spicer. I used to take my team here all the time for lunch. I haven't been here for many years. It's first time for my family. Food Ordered the following: Red curry shrimp 3/5 Pad Thai with chicken 4/5 like the thin noodles Crab roll 2/5 prefer that the inside is less soggy Fish with eggplant 3/5 flavorful but salty Service Served a cup of tea with lipstick. This place has been a good go to for Thai food for years. Still reliably tasty food, with a good, varied menu. The service is pretty efficient. We arrived early for our reservation and didn't have to wait to be seated, then the server came right away. Throughout our meal the staff was attentive, filling water glasses, etc. Food arrived quickly and was very good. The only disconnect here was the "background" music. The atmosphere is white tablecloths and relaxing, but they were playing loud pop music (like Taylor Swift's Shake It Off) which made it hard to hear everyone at our table. We were seated immediately on arrival on a Sat evening. It's a white tablecloth Thai restaurant with good decor and kinda upscale. We ordered vegetarian dishes and each one was excellent. Just the right balance of Thai flavors without being too spicy. Maybe they were short staffed, but it took a long time for the food to be served. That's a mark against them, but the food was so good that I don't hold it against them. Hopefully next time the wait will be shorter and we'll certainly be going back. read more

My dad thought it was a bit mushy inside but I thought it was fine. 3.5 stars - Available for pickup and delivery on Doordash and Uber Eats Lowlights: - This place has been down the street from my house for 16 years and I've only been a few times. My mom and I came here for lunch on a weekday and they weren't busy at all around 1:45pm. We ordered the crispy tofu appetizer, grilled eggplant salad, and pad see ew with chicken. The portions are quite large and great for sharing! Everything was delicious, and I forgot to take a pic of the pad see ew because I was too focused on eating. The tofu was a highlight -- crispy on the outside and silky soft on the inside, and the peanut sauce was super tasty. We had plenty of leftovers and left feeling quite full! Service was friendly and maybe a tiny bit slow but there was only one person waiting on the tables at this time, so I don't blame them for being busy. (Overall: D) - This is an incredibly painful review for me to write as I have been a long time supporter of Shana Thai as I find their dishes some of my favorite Thai food I've eaten to date. In light of this enthusiasm, I brought a large group of friends over to have a nice meal here, of which the food was high quality. However, when the bill came, they had not pointed out that an automatic service fee was already added, and not thinking twice after they brought the credit card machine, I tipped generously, which ended up being an unintended compounded tip. While this is certainly my fault for not paying attention, I did find such action like a sneaky extortion that I did not appreciate as customer loyalty and referrals are certain to bring more revenue than such tactics, but I suppose that is my opinion. Additionally, while I have inflated my reviews in the past, I must accurately reflect the fact that for some reason, the food from their food delivery tastes incredibly bland and terrible and nowhere near the quality of dine in as if a different chef is cooking these dishes. This is evident by the fact that if I takeout leftovers from my dine in, it still tastes much better than ordering delivery, which is a mystery that needs to be addressed. Placed a phone order for pickup, we paid and they claimed it didn't go through. We showed them the Apple Pay confirmation as well as Visa app confirmation. They asked us to call Visa to verify. When we did Visa said we paid and they still requested a second payment. We gave up after an hour and left without food, but having paid for it. I've been coming here for years and while I used to think it was exceptional, it's meh now. Not as flavorful as I used to remember. I used to live in Mountain View and work in Sunnyvale and it was on my regular rotation for lunch and dinner, but I haven't been back here in almost 10 years and tbh, it was disappointing. I've tried a bunch of Thai restaurants in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Mountain View, but my all-time favorite in this area is Shana Thai. I've dined here for dates, with large groups, business lunches, birthday celebrations, family dinners, and even solo meals, and the food and service have consistently been excellent. Go to Shana Thai if you want good Thai food, a dining experience that won't break the bank and/or leave you hungry. Food: Everything I've ordered here over the past 13 years has been consistently delicious. Good portion sizes. Top five favorites: -Red curry with your choice of protein, bamboo shoots, carrots, zucchini, asparagus, bell peppers and sweet basil. I like the soft, nearly silken tofu. Add a bowl of fragrant Jasmine rice. -Pad See-Ew with your choice of protein, broccoli, Chinese broccoli, egg, stir fried wide flat rice noodles, sweet soy sauce. I usually get this with minced chicken. Delicious. -Kway Tiew Lord - prawns, minced chicken, white fish, calamari, crab sticks, dried shrimps, tofu, onions, mung bean sprouts, wide flat rice noodles with sweet soy sauce. -Beef waterfall salad made with grilled sirloin steak, mint leaves, scallion, shallot, cilantro and chili tossed in lime dressing. It's so good! When I was young and broke, I used to take home the leftover dressing so I could dress some romaine and mint leaves with it and pretend I was having beefless waterfall salad. haha -Pumpkin curry with your choice of protein, bamboo shoots, cubed pumpkin squash, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, asparagus, bell peppers and sweet basil. I love this curry during pumpkin season. Because it's fall, y'all. Personal experience: We were quickly met at the host stand, offered a choice of table or "booth" seating, promptly offered menus and water (yay, no QR code to scan!). A server returned and took our order right after we put our menus down. They checked on us while we were eating to make sure everything was good (and it was). They came by twice to refill our water, which I really appreciated. They even brought my 3 year old a three-sectioned kid plate with Frozen characters on it, compostable fork and spoon, and a pink bendy straw for her glass of water. They took the time to pack up and bag our leftovers while I was wiping down my kid's hands. They don't always have time to pack up leftovers, and I don't expect them to. They dropped off the credit card machine after they packed up our leftovers, so that I could pay with my phone and privately choose a tip amount. The management here decided to go with 15%, 18% and 20% as their standard gratuity options, which made me feel valued as a customer, because I hate feeling like I'm being gouged for tips. After I put my phone down, they came right back to ask if I wanted a copy of the credit card receipt. I've had lunch here when every table was taken, including several large groups. The two servers managed the entire restaurant well, providing good service, though understandably, it was a bit less attentive than a mid-week dinner, and we had to ask for water refills, containers and the bill. Ambiance: white tablecloths (and white butcher paper), paper napkins (used to be cloth before the pandemic), soft, warm but not dim lighting, background music I'd prefer to be quieter, but then maybe anyone having a conversation might feel self-conscious about their own volume. Reservations: Definitely call ahead for lunch reservations, because it can get really busy! Alcohol: I'm not a drinker, so a bar is not something I would notice. I think they offer bottled beer??
