Since I discovered this amazing bakery and their wonderful sourdough bread I came back from work to grab more bread for the weekend and they sliced it and I got a couple sandwiches and the option to have it put on their country white was wonderful. Truly I will come back if I ever need a whole bunch of amazing baked goods because I did get a piece of their German chocolate cake on my first visit and it was just as amazing as the customer service At the counter. Just a tip they make their own croissants here but you should order ahead if you want to have the plain as they are usually the first to go. I was so excited to try this place out and knew I'd have to plan ahead to get here, since they close at 5 on weekdays. Well, I happened to be in the area on a random day off work, and what better reason to stop in than for some treats to take to a dinner? Various assortment of macarons, cookies, tarts, croissants, breads, and slices of cake or cobbler-like pastries here. I left with a rose macaron, pineapple and plum slice, and a chocolate cake ball. Oh, and a couple Americanos. I enjoyed the espresso drinks. Thumbs up there! Each of the baked goods were disappointing though and not the freshest. Exterior of the macaron was really hard and crunchy (staling). The cake ball tasted a little old and cardboardy, and the p&p slice lacked a bit in flavor. Finally a bakery that focuses on natural ingredients and is producing some fantastic baked goods. The traditional sour dough is delicious and just tried the herb sour dough which is equally tasty. Also got the blueberry scones which are crunchy outside and delicate inside. So much to try--they have such a wide variety and there's a place inside to enjoy the various treats. This place is my favorite bakery I love getting sour bread dough here especially when it's fresh. My children also love getting sweets here and always beg me for more. This is the best European bakery in Des Plains, the staff are really nice and I had never had and issue with them. I would definitely recommend to hop by and buy some pastries or coffee. We moved to DesPlaines 2 years ago and we recently starting going to this Amazing bakery. We never went to DesPlaines downtown area because there is nothing there!!! We located the bakery by accident driving down Miner so we stopped and what a pleasant surprise. We had coffee and pastry. Omg everything is delicious and fresh. The customer service is wonderful. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. They treat all with kindness. Now we make sure we go to this bakery at least twice a week. The coffee drinks are outstanding, the baked goods are the best. DesPlaines needs more establishments like this instead of all the junk food stops, it's ridiculous. DesPlaines need some good restaurants and retailers. Other places like Mount Prospect and Elmhurst have a much better downtown area. Thank you to the owners of Amazing breads and cakes. Your place is the best. After living in Des Plaines for 16 years, I finally checked this place out for the first time yesterday. Always past by it, but it was always closed. I always thought it was a tiny place with no seatings, but when I walked in, it was so clean and spacious than what I had in mind. It was such a cute little place with a lovely interior design. The workers were very sweet and attentive. I ordered a almond croissant and a hot cappuccino and they brought it out to my seat. The croissant was so fresh, savory, buttery and had crispy layers of deliciousness! Cappuccino was also great! This place is amazing! The decor is so cute industrial with a touch of Polish decor. It is super clean and relaxing atmosphere. I bought the whole wheat loaf and let me tell you, it's like going to Europe and back with this baby! It is so delicious and I know that they use 100% organic ingredients! Also got the apple crumble with a cinnamon chai tea latte iced. Both were so delicious not too sweet, just right. You can tell that the ingredients are prime quality and there is nothing processed because I didn't have any reactions and I usually do! Will definitely return! read more

They have a pretty wide selection of breads, cakes, cookies, macarons, sweet and savory pastries and such. I was actually pretty surprised by all the goodies they had displayed. I wanted to get a selection of their goods so this was what I got: Meringues - They come in Vanilla and Raspberry, crunchy and one was slightly chewy. I tried/failed at making meringues once. They do a much better job here. The raspberry one kind of tasted like cotton candy. Cream Horn - I got this one at the suggestion of who I assumed to be the owner/baker. It was really, really good. Flaky, crunchy, pastry and the cream they use in their pastries is amazing. I almost couldn't get enough of it. Cream Puff - Same amazing cream as the cream horn but in a softer, doughy pastry. I think I preferred the cream horn over this one. Chocolate Croissant - I've never met a chocolate croissant I didn't like. And this was no exception. Crisp outside, buttery layers inside with yummy chocolate throughout. Mmmmms. Macarons - I tried the lavender and green tea ones, and honestly wasn't a big fan. Get one of their other delicious items! Overall a nice place where you can get both sweet and savory breads and desserts. I only got sweet but they also sell loaves of bread, sandwiches, savory scones and other pastries, as well as coffee, tea, and the like. There were a handful of people hanging out there, I can imagine it can get busy as the Metra station is only a few blocks away. Honestly really amazing place for breads and pastries!!! My issue with them is that every time I go they either miss something in my order or overcharge me. Today was no different. The gentleman in front of me- they "forgot" to give him a part of his order. I should have just checked my bag and receipt but I was in a hurry. I get home and I was overcharged for one item. It was 1.99 and they charged me 2.99. As well as they charged me for 4 macaroons when I only ordered and got 3. Please get it together and stop cheating your customers because your products are actually quite good. read more

I was excited to try this place after hearing from some neighbors about how good it was! We ordered five different kinds of pastries... Three of them were so dried out. The peanut butter brownie bar looked delicious... So I got one of those for myself! When I got home and tried to cut into it, it just shattered into crumbs... That's how dried out it is. See photo! I'm a sucker for great baked goods and this Polish bakery in Des Planes, IL is one of the best organic bakeries I have ever visited in my life. Here's why. 1) They use all natural (non-GMO) and organic locally grown ingredients to all of their baked goods which is why the taste is to die for*. 2) They add no additives or preservatives in our baked goods so it's not damaging to your health (as most of non-organic bakeries in the US, and shame on you Florida!). 3) Their baked goods are simple, fresh and baked fresh every morning at 4 am. Nothing here is too crazy or to over the top. Beauty was in simplicity. WHAT I TRIED: -Foremost, I enjoyed their fair trade certified organic Tanzanian Peabeery light roast. Lemony and peachy tones to it- delicious! -They have Paczki! So of course we had to stuff our cheeks with a few. I tried the one with the apple butter filling - instantly brought me back to my childhood years when we would eat a lot of organic apple butter my mom made fresh every Sunday. -We tried spinach egg quiche. Perfection. Makes you wonder why other places add so much flour to their quiche eh! -We tried scones - buttery and moist. Perfect with my coffee. Sitting at the outside patio with delicious coffee and cherry scones when it's 70 degrees cool in downtown Des Planes made my morning very special and detoxing. The store proudly bakes amazing selection of organic breads in wood fired oven. Beautiful delicious simple breads. The variety of goods in here is great. They bake for every taste, and every mood. I noticed fresh fruit brioche and tarts, salted caramel croissants, madelines, assorted cookies, breakfast pizzas to list a few. And a great selection of organic fresh fruit jams! Most of the goods are with traditional Polish recipes. Everyone speaks both Polish and English. Servicing team is sweet and genuine. Service is slow paced which reminds you to listen to your breath and be in the moment and enjoy it. I complimented the lady for their beutiful bakery who serviced me, she thanked me and said "yes, we get up very early and work hard every day to make everything beautiful". Nicely said. It shows. Clean cozy store with yummy choices - I did not want to leave. More detoxing please. Sadly, I had to. The tourist-y sides of downtown Chicago were waiting for me. *- I know no one expects me to die, but "to die for" in my dictionary is when you eat baked goods and don't feel stuffed because everything is so natural, and so savory. Great corner bakery, very clean, never crowded, chai lattes are good. Can't believe I've been here twice & haven't bought a pastry yet; they look really delicious. Multiple gluten free options, too! with almond flour, I believe, and maybe other flours. Many, many options & they can custom make cakes. This place has several things going for it. #1, consistently high quality. Not everything is a home run, but there are no duds either. Everything is in the A or B range. Also, the sugar content is kept in check, so that sweetness does not overwhelm the other flavors of the items. This principle is so rare in American bakeries, so hallelujah for that. #2, friendly people. #3, nice variety and unexpected selections. Sure, you will see many of the usual suspects--croissants, cookies, cupcakes. The blueberry scone and blondie are both wonderful, but they also offer items like chocolate-gingerbread coffee cake and apple-walnut-raisin strudel and honey walnut cake and trail-mix cookies. Every time that I visit, I mentally commit to getting only one or two things but there are at least three or four that sound really intriguing. The coffee is solid and I had a goat cheese and tomato croissant the first morning (absolutely terrific) and a plain croissant the second morning. Love love love this place! I'm glad they're in DP. They should be treasured. I've been coming to this place almost everyday since I discovered them last week. They have absolutely amazing and delicious baked goodies! Location's perfect... easy to find parking in front and to the side of the store. Parking in downtown DP can be a pain so where they are is a sweet spot. They don't have a big sign so might be easy to miss if you don't know where to look. On to the goodies... What makes me come by everyday is their caramel croissants. So, so good! They are flaky and fresh and the caramel is just the right amount of sweet heaven. They are not available everyday but I always get one if I ask. Another of one my favorites is the linzer tart. It's a crumbly pastry that has a fruit filling. It comes in cranberry, apricot, and raspberry. Also comes in 3 sizes I believe--small for 3.50, medium for 8, and large for 12. It knocked my socks off when I first tried it and I haven't looked back. Another must try in my opinion is their breakfast pizza. It's only available on Tues, Thurs, and Sat. It's like a regular pizza but with eggs and bacon instead. It's about 3.75 or 3.95 I think. Overall I'm a happy and satisfied customer! I was here a few days after open. They have some kinks to work out- namely: silverware needs to be placed out, all cashiers need to know prices, all items need to be on menu. We stopped in on the Saturday after they opened. I tried the breakfast pizza and enjoyed it-I would eat it again. We took home bread pudding and a scone. Those were very good. The apple coffee cake was basic. I would give them another try. Side note- They serve pizza for lunch. Friends mentioned they stopped by at lunch time- there was no pizza nor were they told when there would be pizza. People walked out. read more

Des Plaines has a really nice and cute bakery in the downtown area! It's a hidden gem. Everything is baked fresh and the owner and the workers are really nice. I think the owner's father helps out and I saw him stamping all the bags in the back corner of the bakery. I thought it was really cute. I want to try everything here, so I'll be coming here often. I tried their sweet cheese bread. It has a lot of filling inside so I had to take some out. I had their mushroom sauerkraut and it was interesting. Quite different and unique. Their zucchini bread is really good. Moist with the perfect amount of density. I had their ham and cheese croissant and it was soooooo good. It was warm and the croissant was airy, flaky, and buttery. Perfecto. It had one slice of ham and a little bit of cheese but I think the flavor was the perfect amount that was not overbearing. It's definitely not your Burger King kind of croissant sandwich. Nah-uh. I savored every bite and it was quite filling even though it wasn't that big. I work in Des Plaines and never realized there was a bakery there, until one day I became desperate after not being able to go to the city where I usually buy my breads and frantically searched online. I have now tried this bakery a couple of times, and while their products are okay, the prices are way too exorbitant for the quality. Their stale whole wheat sourdough bread cost $7.50 for instance. For the same prices, I'm getting extraordinary products at the bakeries in the city. The items located at the far end of the counter, like the pizza type food products, don't even look appealing enough to try. I would say the products here are good enough to be comparable to your local grocery store if that, but that's about it. read more

This is a nice little bakery with lots of delicious baked goods. It's clean and provides a decent environment to sit and enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a delicious croissant. My wife, who has kind of an extreme sweet tooth, does not think these baked goods are sweet enough (she's the type that just wants to eat pure frosting if possible)...however, I think for the average pastry-lover this place is a great choice.
