Stopped in today to get a warm drink because it was a bit chilly and ended up leaving with several pastries as well. I got their cinnamon chai, which was amazing. That alone was worth the five stars. The pastries were ok, but they wouldn't be the reason I stopped here. They sell bread and I'd be interested in trying that, but what I'm really looking forward to is paczki day--it's an old school Polish bakery, and I expect they know how to do a good paczki! They aren't just a grab-and-go place; they have several tables around and they have some food beyond the pastries. I saw them preparing a sandwich or two, and they had some pepperoni pizza and savory pastries when I was here. There's no dedicated lot, but there's street parking all around as well as a municipal lot or nearby and it's kiddy-corner from the Des Plaines Metra station.

Amazing, as always. I always feel like their breads and pastries get better and better with every visit. Their sourdough bread is phenomenal and even discourages me from making my own - because why make some when I drive 10 minutes and buy the best bread? It's Fall again and I always look forward to their pumpkin loaf. Their scones, apple pastries, buns, literally everything they offer is always so incredible. This bakery has been my #1 for many years now

Great pastries, comforting homemade soups, very fair prices! Only thing is I did not like the oatmilk latte. But I will come again for the food! Based on the 3 bakery items I tried, everything has just enough sweetness to feel like a treat without getting a nauseous sugar high

A nice variety of baked goods and reasonable prices. Extremely patient and friendly staff. I only tried some of the treats like a poppy seed roll and a ham and cheese croissants but I cannot wait to go back and buy a loaf of fresh bread!

Amazing selection of breads and cakes, with breakfast pastries that are absolutely delicious. The coffee is strong and hot, just the way it should be. Service is quick and friendly, and the little sit-in area adds a really cute touch. Definitely a spot worth coming back to!

Nice cozy little bakery just on the corner across the street from the Des Plaines train station. A lot of variety in baked goods. Lots of sweet treats! They also have sandwiches and cafe drinks as well. I loved their Blueberry Scone accompanied by a Vanilla Chai Tea Latte

Beautiful little bakery in the heart of downtown Des Plaines. Everything we had was delicious. My husband got the almond pretzel croissant, I got a spinach quiche and we shared a blueberry scone. We took a loaf of Parmesan sourdough home. It was still too hot and fresh that they could cut it for us, but that just spoke to how fresh it was. There was a line but it moved very quickly with everyone working behind the counter. We waited less than 5 minutes to order. They were kind and efficient. So glad this is just a few minutes from home, I plan on trying some of their drinks soon too!

However, the past few times I've ordered from there, the products have been somewhat underwhelming. Got two kolaczki's and both were very dry. Also got a slice of German chocolate cake and it was dry, too sweet, and tasted old. The doughnuts are generally very good as well as the coffee cakes. But the pastries do not taste as good as they look behind the counter. I admit, I did arrive about 20 minutes before closing, but that should not affect the taste that much.

Donuts, apple fritters, and eclairs were very tasty. The custards were yummy. Cons: Place was dead, not one customer to be found on a Saturday morning at 7:30am. Stop going to the chain coffee joints and try a small place that needs us. I preordered a little leas than $100 worth of cakes, pies, and pastries so I grabbed some of the cookies to make it $100. The butter cookies are $33 a lb. Ouch! As soon as you take a bite they fall apart and crumble everywhere. The kids didn't like the taste and didn't eat any of them, a waste of $12. No prices anywhere other than the boxed goods or coffee signs. 4% fee for using a credit card which I get, but have it posted better. Couple small signs I caught over by the fresh stuff saying price tags reflect cash price, but yet didn't see prices anywhere other than on shelves by boxed stuff. Have prices posted. French silk pie was very thick and not very chocolaty. No one really cared for it, def would not get again. I looked back at receipt after I left and see a random charge for "open retail" for $3.12, no clue what that is. So was over charged for something I didn't get.

Located in a strip mall, there is ample free parking. Staff is unassuming, professional and helpful, willing to help with any menu questions. Upon my first visit on a Thursday for lunch, the waitress Nur provided excellent service to our table. She was patient, pleasant, and provided answers to our many questions. Just loved her service with a smile and uplifting energy. My friends and I ate hard and everyone enjoyed their food. I tried the lentil soup which was wonderful and I had the mushroom guvec with rice on the side that was delicious. We were served tea as an after dinner refresher which was nice. We noticed the bakery on the way out and they had so many treats ready to be ordered and taken home. The second visit was terrible. I came for lunch on a Tuesday and it wasn't busy. The lahmacon is offered as a lunch special and I asked if I could have the cheesemacon for the special. It's the same version with just cheese and no meat. My waiter Jamal straight told me no. I found that very odd so I inquired further because they are the same price on the menu and it's without meat. The answer still didn't change. I simply had a few more questions about other menu items and Jamal seemed agitated by then. He was not even trying to be nice. I ordered two entrees. I paid full price for the cheesemacon and had a pide with kashkaval cheese. Jamal brought my food and NEVER came back to my table. I watched him provide service to all the other tables during that time. I was fine and didn't need anything, but I didn't deserve to be treated that way for being pleasantly inquisitive. I really felt bothered by this because out of all my years of eating out, I never felt that a server treat me poorly personally for being myself. I've had bad service before just because the service is bad overall and that is different. I like the food so I reluctantly returned for a third time and had breakfast. Service was standard and the food was good. My mushroom omelette was fine. The traditional french toast was solid. This review should be one star but it is four without Jamal.

The new location is in a brand-new building, and their coffee selection has expanded as well. Their butter cookies are the best I've ever had, and it's difficult to leave without a box. They have delicious, fresh donuts every day, and I especially love the donut holes they sell on Fridays. I also love that they carry Ideal Bakery's kolaczki and some of their other products. As employees were already putting away the bread, I politely asked if I could grab a piece before everything was picked up. I was told that the bread was being moved to the front and that someone would assist me there. While I waited, two other groups entered after me. They heard the same information and ended up being helped before I was, despite the employees knowing that I had been waiting first. I politely asked twice for assistance and was told to continue waiting while the other groups were served. What made the situation more frustrating was that the customers ahead of me were taking a long time deciding what they wanted. I had already put on a plastic glove and was prepared to select my own bread, but I was told that wasn't necessary because an employee would help me. While waiting, I witnessed one of the teenagers from a group point directly at the bread, and another teenager pushed their hand into it. This happened in front of the employees, and no one addressed the situation or reminded them not to touch the food. As someone who was trying to follow proper sanitation practices, I found this very concerning. Not only did this happened once but 2,3 times infront of them. Yet nothing was addressed. After being ignored, waiting while others were served ahead of me, and seeing unsanitary behavior go unaddressed, I decided to leave without making a purchase. I was disappointed by both the customer service and the lack of attention to food handling standards.
