A Truly Life-Saving Experience -- The Best Dental Care I've Ever Received I cannot express how grateful I am for Dr. Mariya M. Costa and the entire team at Amazon Creek Dental. I had two severely broken upper molars, including a wisdom tooth that was broken off flush with my gums. It turned into a massive abscess, and for eight days I was in constant, excruciating pain--sleeping maybe two hours a night. My first stop was urgent care, where I received antibiotics but no pain medication because they no longer prescribe it for dental issues. I understood, but the pain was unbearable. I called around, and because of my insurance, I had to start with Advanced Dental on W 17th. They rarely answered their phones, so I had to drive there in person just to schedule an "emergency" appointment for the next day. Despite knowing I was in severe pain, they insisted on taking over 30 X-rays first. At the end of the visit, the doctor told me he wouldn't extract the teeth, wouldn't help with pain, and referred me to an oral surgeon who supposedly wouldn't even call me for a week or two--completely ignoring the fact that this was an emergency. When I called the DDS office directly, they said they were booking out until the end of March. Thankfully, someone there gave me the names of a few offices that might help, and one of them was Amazon Creek Dental. From the very first phone call, the receptionist went above and beyond--even after hours--to make sure I was taken care of. Dr. Mariya M. Costa wasn't sure if they could help without seeing my X-rays first, so the front desk helped me track them down (which required me, again, to drive back to Advanced Dental since they didn't answer their phones). I got the X-rays sent over, and within 30 minutes Amazon Creek Dental called me back saying, "We can help. Be here tomorrow at 11 AM." I almost cried from relief. The next morning, Dr. Costa and her colleague took care of me with compassion, skill, and patience. The extractions took over an hour because the teeth were broken off at the gumline, but they made sure I was never in pain throughout the entire procedure. I've had four other extractions in my life with different dentists, and these two young, talented beautiful women were by far the best I've ever had. When nobody else would help--when other offices ignored the urgency or brushed me off--these women said, "No problem, come on in. We've got you." While Amazon Creek Dental doesn't take OHP, they offer payment options and were still incredibly affordable considering the amount of work required. I made an appointment two weeks ago and made sure at the time that the person I spoke to knew l have OHP - she even looked up the plan I'm on to verify that they accept it and called me back to confirm. I filled out all of the appropriate paperwork that same day, which included all of my insurance information as well as my history of houselessness and a lifetime of disability and poverty. However, the day of my appointment (today) I received a phone call less than two hours before my scheduled appointment time informing me that they will not accept OHP after all, but I'm welcome to come in and pay out of pocket if I'd like We deserve care too, and we deserve to be treated with dignity if you can't/won't serve us, not to be turned away at the very last minute after we've already invested time and energy into making ourselves available to you. read more

I had some work done at this office for about 2 years. In that time I had some cavities filled, a cleaning, the BEGINNING of a root canal. The staff is extremely friendly and are truly joyful people. I am fairly new at booking things like this for myself so I guess you can say I'm naive when it comes to the medical world. My first visits were a cleaning and looking into what kind of work I'd need in the future. My mouth wasn't a pretty sight and I knew I'd have a lot of work to do. We made a plan for the cavities and had plans to tackle a tooth that I needed a root canal for. When I was done getting the cleaning I was sent to the front to pay for the services and go over the quote they had for the plan to fix my teeth. They claimed that the root canal wouldn't be covered by my insurance and I'd have to come out of pocked upwards of $1500. I was very surprised but like I said, I'm naive to this world so I just assumed I was screwed and needed to start saving money. I came back and got some cavities filled with a plan to schedule more work in the future.. (Fast forward a year down the line) some time later, I got a super bad infection from the tooth that needed a root canal. Had to leave work immediately to see what was going on(pain was unbearable). I came in and was seen immediately (really appreciated that). Was prescribed some antibiotics to kill the infection with a plan to do the root canal. Which is now all of a sudden covered by my insurance.. I'm sure they didn't think I remembered why I didn't do this procedure a year ago, because I didn't have $1500 to burn. It was a giant red flag in my eyes but I'm a busy guy. Booking this stuff takes time and to be honest they were very friendly and i didn't want to rock a boat over them doing something kinda crummy a year ago. This infection was unbearable, I couldn't physically return to work. I had filed for short term disability and had a packet sent over to Dr Coasta's office several days later. Her office claimed to never have received the packet. The claim company needed a statement from Dr Coasta to insurance that I still received a paycheck. I had to call over and over to make sure someone had it on their desk to get it submitted. I called the claim company to make sure they properly sent the file and they assured me that they did. I eventually had to email Dr Coasta a PDF and continue to try to get them to submit it. I know people have a business to run but I have a life and bills to pay also. Once they finally submitted the documents, I noticed they didn't put the correct dates.I called them and asked if they would correct it. They refused and stated they can only approve me for 1 day off work. Keep in mind I had to be prescribed pain medication and couldn't stand still because I was in so much pain. My short term disability was denied due to this. If she didn't drag her feet on getting this form submitted I probably could have done something to change the outcome of what my employer will do. I have been out of work for 2 weeks on technical unexcused absences and will more than likely lose my job. After thinking the whole situation over, I chose to not return to this office. I truly felt that I wasn't looked at as a priority unless I was there swiping a card. Health care shouldn't be looked at like a business. I am a human, not a car that you can up charge a customer on. Them all of a sudden being ok with me using my insurance on a big procedure was so insulting and it made me feel like if I can't trust these people to be honest about something people desperately need, then who can we trust. If they didn't try to hike up the bill on me in the first place then I wouldn't be in this situation at all. I would have got the root canal done a year ago if they would have gave me the correct price. I have asked them for an itemized receipt for everything I have got done there. These people main concern is getting your money, and getting you out the door. read more

I have had so many bad experiences with dentists I never thought I would seek one out again... When the pain in my mouth got unbearable though, I had to seek out a dentist, my biggest fear, needles in my mouth, drilling, pain, carelessness. I no longer feel any anxiety seeing a dentist. Dr. Dexter talked me through everything, he was so nice, he explained stuff, there was no pain. I would highly recommend this guy to anyone. He's amazing! OK, I admit it. I am a chicken when it comes to dentists, and hadn't been to one in like 5 years before I visited Dr Dexter. A friend of mine had recommended him, but still I was hesitant so went on for a free "get to know you" appointment". He passed my test, and I have been going to him for 3 years since. While he is not the cheapest, I find him to be patient, gentle, kind and compassionate. He tends to be conservative in his work, taking a less aggressive approach than some others might, which I appreciate. I never feel pressured, and I feel like he tries to explain all my options so I can make an informed decision before taking action. The other cool thing about this dentist is his office. He has tried to give it a comfortable "green" feel. Cork floors, nice art on the walls that changes, interesting magazines, water and a phone. I have recommended him to my friends. read more

Doesn't recommend stuff just to recommend it and make money--recommends only what is really necessary and also based on your preferences for the level of care you want. Clean, professional and modern practice. Dr. Dexter, hygienists, assistants and front desk are extremely professional, knowledgable and friendly. Really never been a big fan of going to the dentist but I have never been able to shake my sweet tooth. In other words I will be needing a dentist for the rest of my life. Glad I found this place. They make me feel comfortable and are very understanding of my discomfort levels. I love how they educate me of any issues with my teeth or gums so I can better prevent issues in the future and save money down the road. I've had fear-mongering dentists and flashy in-your-face dentists over the years, and was so pleased to find that Dr. Dexter is neither. His calm, genuine demeanor is reassuring and soothing, and I appreciated that he spent a good amount of time talking through each step of my dental issues. He also gave me the low-down on treatment and fluoride during pregnancy, and explained why his advice was different than the general OB guidelines - again, I felt respected and cared for. They all seem nice enough there, but the dollar signs in their eyes is too obvious. They gave me a detailed plan of everything they said should be done--over $8000 after insurance. I said I was not going to do it all at once. I had one thing done, then I did not immediately make another appointment, and the harassment started. I had multiple family health issues I was dealing with, and told them I knew I was due for a cleaning, but I could not do it at that time--I would call when I was able. It got calls to my home phone (I asked that they not do that as my husband works nights and it wakes him up and I am not home during the day) they called my cell phone, sent post cards, emails and even letters reminding me how much benefit I had on my insurance to the penny and it wasn't a benefit if I didn't use it. I answered one of their calls this year on my cell while at work, and agreed to a cleaning if there was an opening soon. I had the cleaning, and then found out the insurance denied it because it hadn't been long enough. I called to find out why they neglected to mention that, since they knew my benefits to the penny and never hesitated to remind me of it. They said they changed me to every 3 months and they knew the insurance would only pay every 6 months, but it was the responsibility of the patient to keep tabs on that. That is true, but I expected better of them. I told her if I had to pay that, I was no longer a patient! I paid as it was my fault for trusting them--(last time I will go there)! A week after I paid, I get a post card telling me I was scheduled for another cleaning (as I requested)....I DID NOT request that--never did--I told them I was no longer a patient. Highlighted was a line saying if I failed to keep the appt or cancelled less than 24 hrs I would be charged a $75.00 fee. They do not listen or respect requests and are after money at any cost. I could add a few more things, but this is long enough. For those who are getting good care, I'm really glad, but I do not like being pursued like I just won the lottery. I am really disappointed because I wanted a dentist that doesn't use amalgam and is careful about removing it, but dealing with this is not worth it! I'll be looking for another dentist (when time permits). read more
