How this place has received a "4 Star review" on hotels.com I have no idea. Stayed here a few weeks ago and stayed in one of their "suites" well a suite is just a room that they made small by adding a hot tub that you couldn't pay me to sit in. The hotel is not located in the nicest area of town to begin with, my advice is to not leave anything of value in your car. That's if you have any money left after paying 20 to park in their parking garage. Upon walking in our room, besides noticing how small the room was, it did not seem to be very clean. In order to become the luxury hotel they are trying to be, they need to UPDATE. I've stayed at a lot of 4-5 star hotels in my time and to say this place is on par with a Holiday Inn Express, would be an insult to Holiday Inn Express. read more

This hotel is over-the-top alluring. I felt like I was transported back in time with all the snazzy art deco style and interesting architectural details. The staff seemed to have a great deal of pride in their hotel, too. Sure, the place is old and isn't perfectly perfect, but that adds to its charm. I love to be surrounded by beauty without breaking the bank! Plus, parking and internet is free - that's not typical in other upscale hotels. The first thing that stands out about this place is that it is in a really bad neighborhood. I live in Los Angles and I have been through my share of bad neighborhoods - this place beats all of them! Example: we walked 1 block and, while we were crossing the street, we were cut off by a guy who stuck his head out of his car window, pointed his finger at me like it was a gun, and said "boom". Ugh! When we checked in, 4:00 PM on August 18th, the two guys working the front desk were not very welcoming or accommodating. We were told that we would have to pay $20 to park our car in the parking garage. When we asked if there were other options, we were told that we could call the city and tell them that we wanted to park on the street. I asked if they could give us a better deal on the parking rate and they flat out refused. We got our room keys and went to our room. We tried the keys and they didn't work. We went back downstairs and told them the key didn't work and the guy tells me that they had been de-magnetized and basically accused us of keeping the card keys too close to our phones. You would think that they would apologize for the inconvenience, but they tried to blame us for the keys not working. We wanted to check out and find another hotel in a better neighborhood with nicer staff, but they refused to give us a refund on the room - so we stayed. We get in the room and, like others who reviewed, we couldn't figure out how the lights worked - not knowing that we had to first turn on the master switch by the front door. Why didn't they tell us?!? The beds were comfortable, but one of the comforters had blood stains on it (see photo). Gross! When I tried to plug in our phones to charge them, only two outlets worked. One was for the lamp, and the other was for the TV. When I looked behind the nightstand, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned back there in years (see photo). The only reason that I am giving this place two stars is because when we checked out the next morning, the gentleman that checked us out, apologized profusely for the problems we had and gave us a discount on the room rate and waived the parking fee. Overall, I was very impressed with the facilities and having an opportunity to stay at such a beautiful hotel with a rich history. Upon arriving, I was greeted warmly and found my room to be spacious and comfortable. I'm a huge fan of Art Deco and had a moment in the lobby where I felt like, "Wow, I feel as though I've stepped back in time." Still, going from good to great is in the details. And I found there were several things that need to be addressed. The parking was a little pricey for my liking, but I did choose to use their garage. Upon returning from my evening activities, I found that there was a line of cars about 10-15 deep trying to enter the garage. As a guest, with a pass, I didn't know if I had a "guest entrance" or if I should just jump in the line. There was some type of concert going on that evening and I honestly didn't know if we had access to a special entrance. When I asked the individual at the front desk, it didn't appear as though he was interested in alleviating this situation in any way. I also have to comment on the honor bar and the $6 bottle of water offered in the rooms. I was thinking that many, if not most hotels are moving away from this service. In a city that has a brewery using green energy to brew their beer, this kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Yes, a guest doesn't have to buy anything. $5 for Peanut M&Ms is a little out of control. Once again, I had a very comfortable stay and the Ambassador is a beautiful hotel. But details matter. And service, even if you are overwhelmed, is important. I may, as guest have a pretty simple, if not stupid question, but that doesn't mean you can treat me that way. read more

I recently stayed her for a 3rd time over the last 3 years. Overall I've never had a bad experience. This hotel was built around the late 20s and the art deco decor is evident throughout the main part of the hotel. I really like the floors in the lobby and the brass elevator doors that you have to pull open in the lobby. There's some pictures and other artifacts from the hotel that have been displayed on one of the walls in the lobby of the hotel. Around the time the hotel was built, Wisconsin Avenue was originally called Grand Ave. There were 35 mansions that lined both sides of the street. Only 2 remain today. If you get a chance, take the tour of the Pabst Mansion, it's 2-3 blocks to the east of the hotel. The rooms have been completely renovated and have a modern look. The bathrooms in the standard rooms are some what small, but each room has another sink/vanity on the outside of the bathroom too. Big Flat Screen TV make that staying experience that much better. The beds are very comfortable and the linens are nice too. I never heard any noise from the hallways and the AC/Heat worked well too. Last but not least, they have a comp shuttle that will take you anywhere you want to go in the metro area. We got picked up on Brady St and they were totally nice about it which we all tipped graciously. The service at the hotel excellent and I would recommended it to my friends. read more

We stayed here one night for a concert at The Rave/Eagles Club which is literally right across the street. You're also in walking distance of a few food places, including a McDonalds. There is unlimited 24-hour parking for $20. Tip: Always keep the card they give you with you, that's your ticket in and out of the parking garage! The staff all smiled and greeted us in very friendly, genuine manners every time we crossed paths and generally made us feel welcome. The room was small but it worked just fine for the two of us. The view of the city was really lovely. The bed was super comfy with soft pillows and sheets. The lighting was soft and romantic, controlled by a master switch and individual switches. The room also includes a desk, a bureau with robe and a few hangers, a vanity space with sink and makeup mirror, and refreshment bar with vending machine. Vending machine automatically charges your selections to your charge once you remove them from the cooler. Includes multiple alcohol choices -- 2 bottles of wine in the $20 range and some liquor. The bathroom was very nicely decorated and clean. The shower contained large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash which gets refilled when the room is cleaned. The style of the hotel, true to art deco, was luxurious and artistic with gold embellishments galore. The elevator doors and flooring in the lobby were particularly unique. I mean sure - major cities often make you pay for parking... but this is less of a major city and more of, Milwaukee. Still - the rooms were nice, the wifi was free, and the beds were cosy. Seriously, I do not even have the words to explain how amazing this hotel experience has been. First we checked in, we were greeted with smiling and helpful faces. In our hotel room was a complementary bottle of wine. Yes, the hotel is old and "Art Deco" but yay it's part of its charm and how it advertises itself. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The complementary shuttle to all areas within 3 miles ish is AMAZING. Full days venturing to breweries and knowing you have a safe ride home is a luxury. They even take appointments to pick you up and drop you off or you can call. The shuttle drivers are friendly and cracking jokes the entire journey. The restaurants were closed while we were there, but the hotel had complimentary water, wine, and beer in the lobby to make up for it. This is by far the most pleasant and personable hotel experience I have had post-covid. read more

We had high hopes. Upon arriving the first disappointment/surprise was that parking was $20/night. For a swanky, urban area, sure. But not for the area of Milwaukee that this hotel is in. Second bummer was that the hotel boasts a shuttle that will take you anywhere within a three mile radius of the property. We learned there were many exceptions to this (no to anywhere around Brady St., for example.) The driver claimed this was because they were so busy - although we were the only two shuttle guests both times we used the service. Once we sat in the bus, we witnessed the driver and the bellhop getting into a verbal fight. The driver apologized when she got into the bus but the damage had been done. The next morning my husband and I were trying to find the breakfast cafe, wandering a bit aimlessly around the lobby. Instead of helping us find where we were going, the front desk attendant was on the phone having a personal discussion about the pending arrival of a friend/family member's baby (talk about water breaking and epidurals - good morning to us.) Other than the sub-par shuttle and the unprofessional front desk staff, the hotel was fine. No mini fridge was a bit of a bummer for a hotel that advertises itself as four star. read more

This hotel was AWESOME!!! We had a huge room with a view on the 8th floor. Service was AMAZING too! This was our first time in Milwaukee and it felt like we stayed farther from downtown than we thought, but it's only a mile or so away. Marquette University is just down the street. The Ambassador offers free shuttle service in a 3 mile radius so that will get you downtown by the river walk . Then you just call and they'll pick you up! It wasn't busy when we stayed so everything was prompt & quick. There is no pool and you do need to pay for overnight parking but there are really good deals right now and it's still less expensive than staying on the river walk . I've stayed here twice. It's a nice, clean, older hotel with spacious rooms. It has a great art deco vibe with old elevators that have gold doors you must pull open to access. The bar on the first floor, Gin Rickey, has good service, great drinks, and tasty appetizers. This is not a perfect, old hotel experience, however. First of all, the location is a bit off the beaten path on 23rd and Wisconsin Avenue. It's great if you're visiting Marquette or seeing a show at The Rave, but it's a little out of the way to downtown (1.5 to 2 miles away) and it's not a terribly walkable neighborhood. The second issue is that on both visits we had some minor issues with the front desk staff. It seems their system (or their personnel) is not quite up to expectations. On our recent visit, we checked in at 6 pm and the desk representative looked at his PC uncertain, then got a manager who looked equally uncertain at their computer, then one of them left, apparently to see if our room was available. Meanwhile, a woman and her two children came down to the desk to complain that for the second time they were given a key to a room that was already occupied. And on our second night, we found that neither of our keycards worked to open our hotel room, and we needed to return to the front desk to get them reset. If you stay here, here's a small tip: The rooms have a "master" switch, which shuts off all the lights (desk, bedstand, bathroom, etc.) with one flick of the switch. That sounds convenient, until you need to get up in the middle of the night and the bathroom light doesn't work and you don't want the entire room to light up a Christmas tree because your spouse is fast asleep. So, keep the master switch one and turn off each of the sections of the room individually. This could be a great hotel--it is clean, attractive, comfortable, and has a lot of character. But both of my visits had small but annoying hiccups. read more

The Ambassador has great appeal. It's a beautiful boutique hotel with a lot of class. My parents and I stayed for a wedding that we had in Milwaukee. Not only was the customer service excellent (Mary is the best and helped us out a bunch!), but the hotel itself was very nice. The interior design was very pleasant and the rooms were cute and modern. Our room had a large King sized bed and a pull out couch, making it the perfect room for a family. The parents get to feel like royalty, and the kids can enjoy sleeping on something other than a roll away bed! It also had a jacuzzi and big screen TV. We were given free parking on this occasion, which was great. $20 for parking though is a steal! Chicago is much worse. The hotel had a free shuttle service!! This was awesome because Milwaukee does have concerts often, so you don't have to worry about paying for parking or a cab. We also got breakfast downstairs. I like how they use an all you can eat service, but it isn't a buffet. The food was excellent and we left content. I would definitely stay here again if I ever needed a place in Milwaukee. I have stayed at The Ambassador Hotel a couple times, this stay is leaving me with mixed feelings regarding the quality of their guest population. The hotel is beautiful, the staff is amazing and kind. However, the (close to 50) people throughout the three rooms down the hall from me were rowdy; the staff couldn't do anything to quiet them down. The guests complained, "well, we're from out of town!" If it were my hotel, I would have kicked them out. It was painfully obvious that they were smoking marijuana, which is fine to some respect; however, it is illegal in Wisconsin. In addition, after speaking with them directly, I found out that they were not going to a concert at The Rave, which would have given them credit for their noise. Long story short, my most recent 4-day hotel experience at The Ambassador has been ruined by the staff's unwillingness to enforce curfew. After my experience tonight, I would not recommend The Ambassador Hotel for a Milwaukee stay. Update: right now they're knocking on my door, saying, "hey girl, hey hey girl, come out and play." I'm so disgusted. I wish I had some other place to sleep tonight. read more

It doesn't help that we were staying at the hotel during their busiest week of the year due to SummerFest. The hotel was 100% sold out (or so they told us). Our room was stiflingly smokey - like decades of cigarette smoke that was baked into the carpet and curtains. When I asked for a different room they offered a 3 hour ionizer treatment - but I was about to go to sleep and did not want to leave the room for 3 hours. I really wanted a different room - but there was none avail for the rest of my trip. Despite the Privacy sign we put up at night, housekeeping knocked on the door like it was a police raid --- at 8:45am each of the 3 mornings we were there. The first morning - she started to come in. After 11am each morning, we took off the privacy door sign - and used the Please Refresh door sign. However, I guess if you don't make the 8:45 refresh - you are out of luck. We were there for 4 days - we did not get a refresh on linens, towels, soap, anything. Just letting the smokey smell permeate our clothes. The newly renovated bar is super nice, but we were disappointed to learn they got rid of the happy hour that so many people wrote reviews about. $13 cocktails are steep for a Milwaulkee hotel that is not even downtown -- with no happy hour to speak of. On a more positive note, the service in the bar and cafe was friendly and welcoming. The location is at the end of the Marquette campus - it is in kind of a terrible area. I guess the one fun thing is you can look at the room that you can drink a cocktail where Jeffrey Dahmer killed his first victim. For $250 a night - we were victims of highway robbery. read more

The staff were friendly, courteous, and extremely professional, they like what they do and it shows. My room was impeccable, exceptionally clean, day after day, and upon arrival within 10 to 15 min of settling in I received a call to make sure everything was satisfactory. It has a 1920's theme which was embodied within the halls and the service. Restaurant onsite, fitness center, and laundry service. Definitely without a doubt a go to if ever in Milwaukee. I stayed here on a busy weekend in Milwaukee as Summerfest was in full swing. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. Kasandra at the front desk checked us in efficiently and made sure we had the parking pass (free!) and room keys with discounts to the cafes and restaurants. I got an iced coffee from the cafe, which was strong, just the way coffee should be. We got drinks one night at the restaurant bar, which was a cozy space with a mix of high tops, tables with booths and bar space. The winner was the special event dinner. Our hosts had selected salads with fresh crisp greens, tomato and shaved carrots. The bread was soft and fluffy. The beef was amazing--fork tender on a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes with asparagus on the side. The bartenders were friendly and made sure we were well-hydrated. The only issue we had was with the shuttle. It was free, and perhaps was taking us right outside their normal radius to the wedding venue. The driver accommodated our request. He was late in coming to pick us up from the wedding and we were waiting in the heat and dark. However, it was a busy weekend and he seemed busy. He was also a gentleman and helped us down from the vehicle, so I wasn't too upset. Overall, good hotel stay, wonderful food experience, and minor room for improvement. read more

The lobby is beautiful, but there weren't enough attendants on duty. We waited in line to check-in for 10 minutes and had a line of people behind us. However, our check-in process was quick and easy once we finally got to the counter. Our room was in the corner and had a nice view from the 6th floor. However, the windows do actually open which is dangerous if you have kids or are traveling with someone with a mental illness. The room was very spacious and would have been perfect for a small family, but the furniture was old and cheap. It was motel furniture in a hotel room. I did like that there were two sinks, but when I pulled the first towel off the rack, a lighter fell out. The hotel was decent for a one-night stay, but I won't stay here again. read more

This hotel is unique, original and the staff goes above and beyond to help you. From making the reservation with Wanda over the phone, to check out, the staff made you feel incredible. I came in for the NY's Eve race and was pleasantly surprised when I was told that there is a free shuttle to and from the hotel. When I checked in, I walked into a beautiful 1920s theme lobby with super cool elevators and incredible atmosphere. Thank you Kelly for being so attentive to me when I came to check out and asked about the shuttle. Thank you Sali + Artist for dropping me off and picking me up from the race. We decided to take a weekend getaway to Milwaukee for our anniversary weekend and got a great deal on this hotel on HotelsTonight. I was a little skeptical about it upon arriving due to the outside look of the building (which seems to match many of the buildings in Milwaukee from what I can tell), but when I went inside I was blown away. It is absolutely stunning and bright. I all of a sudden felt underdressed and hoped my fairy godmother would arrive and fancy me up like Cinderella (didn't happen - drats). In all seriousness, though, the interior was lovely and I appreciated the "vintage" feel I got from the decor to the elevators. The staff were incredibly friendly, with everyone greeting us as we passed on our way to the front desk. The front desk assistant was helpful and gave us all the information we needed. She even asked us what floor we preferred! Our room was clean, cozy, and charming, complete with cable TV. My boyfriend particularly loved that he could see the TV from the bathroom. I do wish they offered a mini fridge in the rooms, since the one they have in there is technically a vending machine/mini-bar which charges you for even moving items (so watch out for that). The neighborhood seems a little rough; so, I don't recommend exploring at night. It didn't seem like there was really much to explore nearby anyway, except for the concert hall down the street. Parking is $20/night if you want to park in their parking garage, but there appeared to be ample street parking if you didn't want to spend the money on parking. I would just be sure to hide all valuables and lock your car (as I would recommend anywhere really). One of my very favorite parts was that they offer a shuttle that will take you within a 3 mile radius of the hotel, which works out great because many of the places we wanted to check out (Milwaukee Brewing Company, Mobcraft Brewing, and Potawatomi) were within that range. The shuttle starts running very early and runs until 11 PM, which is pretty decent. Even if you wanted to stay out later, a Lyft ride wouldn't cost too much to get back given the radius the shuttle takes you. Our shuttle drivers were extremely friendly, chatty, and seemed genuinely interested in speaking with us. Don't forget your room key to get 25% off your meal at the hotel's restaurant (which is already very reasonably priced)! Next time we're in Milwaukee, we will look to Ambassador for a place to stay! read more

This is a follow up to my negative review regarding the filthiness, unsanitary, dangerous conditions, false advertising that we found in a room (804) we rented at the Ambassador Hotel in July 2019. In the last two years we see that Ambassador Hotel had many interactions with City of Milwaukee / Department of Neighborhood Services due to Violations, Complaints, etc. which are consistent with our findings and the negative reviews recorded on-line. According to www.tripadvisor.com and www.yelp.com there are over 535 negative reviews, and 44 pages from guests of the hotel going back to 2002 exposing the same problems that we as guests of the hotel encountered. One major problem that has been exposed by guests in reviews is the bed bugs and mice, due to lack of proper maintenance. After requesting and reading the last two years of the open records that we have received from the Department of Neighborhood Services, City of Milwaukee, and studying the statistics collected, the main problem we discovered is that throughout all 138 pages we noticed a lack of consistency in the way violations are incompletely or improperly addressed by the inspectors who visited the Ambassador Hotel because of a number of violations, complaints, and for regular inspections, for the purpose of issuing a license to operate. This discovery leads to a legitimate concern regarding the training policy of the Department of Neighborhood Services when it comes to the inspectors in charge of such jobs to make sure that the facility is meeting all the requirements, and is up to code. According to Mr. Manaan- Commercial Code Enforcement, Division Manager, the state of Wisconsin does not have any legislation in place that requires proof of indoor air quality control in hotel rooms or proof of cleanliness. He just mentioned to me, that the hotel needs to change the sheets every day, and it would be good if the cleaning personnel were licensed, but there is no requirement for them to be licensed. If there are no such requirement why these requirements are listed on the License Form with codes as well? Mr. Manaan has never answered any of my questions. Due to the seriousness of these problems that we discovered, we requested that a full investigation be conducted at a higher level by an agency with proper authority, and that legislative action be taken to address these problems through the law. For this purpose, we shared all the information, and our reports with the Mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Governor, Wisconsin Senators, Representatives, Assembly and Senate Majority Leader, President of the Senate, Secretary of the State of Wisconsin, BBB, Dept. of Safety and Professional Services, TMJ4-TV Milwaukee. So far it looks as if nobody wants to get involved and take any action. I let you the consumer be the judge. read more

The location is ok for the fact that it's near the city and Miller Park but in all reality your in a crumby neighborhood. Staying here was an experience that will transport you to a different time where staying at a hotel was an event and not a chore. The room was well priced and in theme. Came to the Ambassador on Business. I was hoping the deco theme would be nice but it was done cheaply. The rooms are small, have weird switches and my room didn't smell good. The bed was comfortable as fuck, maybe the highlight of the whole place. The hotel tries hard to nickel and dime. They charge for parking and have big markups on all the items like toothbrushes and razors most hotels hand out. I think any hotel lobby is shit if you don't have a coffee rig going 24/7 and they only have it going when they have a chance to overcharge you for it. After our last experience here, there's an unfortunate need to downgrade to 2 stars. The Ambassador Hotel is not inexpensive by any stretch of the imagination, so there is a certain expectation of amenities. You know, like closets. A closet you ask? A simple thing NOT to be found in our room. Upon calling the front desk, the front desk clerk (sounding very put upon) informed me that if I required a closet that I should request one in the future. Um, ok. What bothered me about this, is the fact that we checked in at 4pm. I couldn't imagine why rooms that are not so well appointed aren't saved for those who check in at the end of the night? They offered to move us to another room, so it's not like there wasn't additional availability. Some of the towels in the bathroom were stained and the hair dryer didn't work. This last experience was an eye-opener for us, exacerbated by the fact that I contacted the management by email, and received no response. read more

Just on the short walk back to the hotel, someone was asking for money. The front desk staff was very nice. One thing that I didn't know was that there was a $20 per night charge to park. Just a short ride from downtown and they even have shuttle service. That said, they are very slow with room turnaround and as such we were left waiting for a room for quite some time. I read the reviews before booking, saw the stained sheets, hoped those reviews were flukes or exaggerated, and booked anyway. Let me clearly state: Those reviews are true. The lobby is lovely but the rooms are downright DIRTY. There are so many stains on the sheets, blankets, and pillows that we stopped counting. The carpets are stained. The curtains have a mysterious white powder on them. The large bath towels are all frayed and even ripped. One of the robes has a large brown stain. Given the multiple reviews claiming dirty, stained sheets - it is obvious this hotel has a serious linens problem. There are 2 quarter sized holes in my bathroom wall, perhaps from hooks ripped out? The shower nozzle dangles loosely from a hole in the drywall. Lobby aside, this is a 2 or 2.5 star hotel. I'm even hesitant to say that because I have stayed in some real shitholes but always had clean sheets! I'm not bring persnickety, these linens are GROSS. The service was fine, no problems whatsoever other than the fact that my room is run down, and worse, unhygienic. Nice TV, quiet at night, I didn't mind the questionable location. I will not stay here again, I would honestly rather stay in a Motel 6 or certainly any Holiday Inn. This is NOT a 4-star hotel. Not on any day. On any planet. read more

I would say that the Ambassador is one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at as far as customer service. I've stayed at Best Westerns that valued their customers more than this hotel. We stayed there this past weekend and spent the extra money for the whirlpool suite, as the weekend was meant to be a get-away for me and my fiance. The ambassador offered a shuttle service to the downtown area (because they are located in a bad part of the town west of the city). We were dropped off at our location fine. However, in scheduling a ride back, we were told it would be a 40 minute wait. That was fine, as we had the time to wait. Well over an hour went by and still we waited. The theater we were in had to ask us to leave. Calling the front desk, I found out that all the shuttles had stopped running for the night. And there we were, walking around after midnight in a strange city, trying to find a working ATM machine to pay for a ride home because the staff at the Ambassador couldn't make a simple phone call to tell me that a ride WASN'T coming. Our night was wasted, walking home after midnight, avoiding dangerous strangers. In contacting the staff, they made absolutely NO effort to apologize. Any promise they made to call me back when someone that could explain what happened actually came in to work was a lie. I had to constantly call to reach someone who finally told us, "Sorry, but it's a free service." They were half right. It was free. I'd hardly call being stranded and forgotten about a service. I will never stay at this hotel and cannot recommend it to anyone. The staff is inexperienced and there were constant problems. Not to mention the surrounding area is very dangerous to be in after dark. Head closer to town next time. I know we will. read more

The hotel responded to my review on Trip Advisor saying they contacted me directly to respond to my 'allegations'-- that is a LIE!!! I just had to get that out. They are lying. And this adds an entirely new level of shade to our stay. SHADY. read more

Hotwire called this place downtown, I have a $10.00 cab bill that says it is not. Check in was quick, but the attendant brought up that I booked through Hotwire a few times, like she was disappointed that I didn't book direct. (had I known the location was so far from downtown, I would never have booked here.) The hotel was a nice old building, but it is in a sketchy area (another reason not to stay here). The elevator was really old looking, you had to open a door to enter and exit it, it was kind of neat. Our room was ok, the beds were kind of old and a bit saggy, you could call the concierge if you wanted a different pillow, but you couldn't order a different bed, that would have been better. My girlfriend called the number on out room key folder to arrange a shuttle ride and received confirmation it was reserved for the next morning. However, when we went downstairs a bit early to get the shuttle, the driver argued with her, saying that she had never called since we weren't on his list, and he is the only one who takes the shuttle calls. She got sick of arguing and asked him to call her a cab, he said that even though we weren't on the list, he would take us. The exact same argument happened the next morning with another guest. So there is obviously a disconnect somewhere, the shuttle driver should not be taking this out on paying guests, fix it internally and never tell a paying guest that they lied. The shuttle is the only reason to stay at this hotel, since it is on the edge of town, when the shuttle ride is a hassle, there is no need to return to the hotel. read more

I felt a little duped by Hotwire on this one. There's a lot of things about the Ambassador that don't make this the 4-star the deal I thought I would be bidding on. It is about 20 blocks from downtown, and as everyone has said, it is not located in the part of town where you'd want to take an evening stroll. Additionally, it is located across from a big music venue, so on the night we stayed, there were tons of grubby, stoned youngsters packed in staying 6 to a room (they sort of crashed the with Art Deco decor, I think). They were even playing drinking games in the bar. We could make out every word that was said in the room next door and heard the following, word-for-word. "Dude, you poopin?...Smells like it." Classy!! We had some interactions with staff, and they were consistently not particularly warm or helpful. When I checked out, nobody asked me how our stay had been -- they probably didn't want to know. This positives: The rooms are pretty. The bathrobes are nice. The elevators are charmingly quirky. The bar has good late night snacks. The parking is free. read more

The Ambassador was chosen for an easy drive from our corporate office for a week stay and very good rates. It has an excellent restaurant, nice bar, great coffee shop. The rooms are spacious,'comfortable and have very nice amenities. There is a hotel shuttle that runs throughout the evening. Although I wasn't thrilled with the area, I would stay here again and enjoyed the stay very much. The staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

A Chicago Yelper reporting from Milwaukee...I scored an $80 deal on this hotel from hotwire.com, and that's what it was worth. Before I start on the rest, there were a few upsides: the bed and bedding was comfortable and clean, the little coffee shop was nice and I did like the dcor. The hotel offered off-street parking free, which frankly was really, really necessary. More about that later. I'd like to have liked it more. I know the hotel has gone through a renovation, but I don't think a well-done one. In my room, large pencil marks were still on the ceiling, left there from workers who were trying to line up the vents. The hole for the fire sprinkler was cut too large and gaped around it. The elevator doors, which someone mentioned, are very cumbersome to anyone with any type of luggage. The neighborhood, despite being just down the road a bit from Marquette is not somewhere I'd walk around at night. It's just past that point where a gal shouldn't venture to walk alone. When the hotel front desk help and the waitress at a restaurant four blocks away tells you that, believe it. Hence the need for free, off-street, well-lit parking. The help itself is spotty at best, and I witnessed a shouting match in the parking lot between a bellhop and a customer who had not been waited on for a half hour. I also found myself waiting a half hour for the sole "courtesy bus" to come 4 blocks to retrieve me. I hope the neighborhood comes around, and that this hotel makes some changes that can make it great. Having Aveda products and a comforter does NOT make it a four-star hotel as advertised. However, if you're tough, and don't care about driving everywhere, this may be the low-cost place for you. read more
