I quite liked the gentleman who came out to my house for an estimate. He was fast and commonsense, and basically told me to wait and do a lot of resurfacing at once. He also flagged that I likely have lead paint underneath my existing carpeting. They could sand that down, but I'd have to clean it up--which sounds really dangerous. I thought I could live with the carpeting, but I really hate it so I called them back to try to find a solution. The guy who answered the phone was incredibly rude. I asked if there's a way to fix this; he said no and hung up. I called back the next day (hoping to get the nice estimator) to see if it was possible that I didn't have lead paint or if I could put wood flooring over the subfloor (which likely has lead paint on it). The guy on the phone raised his voice. When I flagged that with him and asked him to calm down, he hung up on me. I'm just a guy who doesn't work full time in the flooring trying to find a solution, and I have lots of dumb questions. However, I've found several courteous floor contractors who've patiently walked me through the process. Hang up on these guys and get a pro. read more

After 25 years of use, my kitchen and entry oak floors needed refinishing from normal wear and tear. I hired Mr. Lee approx a year ago because he was recommended. When the job was completed I noticed that there were blotches of stain along the edges by the cabinets. Since it wasn't too obvious, I didn't complain. Mr. Lee told my husband to call him in a year and he would put another coat. Today I called Mr. Lee because my hardwood floors appear to have lost their satin finish and the planks are separating--he refinished approx. 1 year ago. He said he did not guarantee "wear and tear". He also said he put three coats of satin finish, but my husband said he saw him do two coats. Also, I doubt that he put wood putty between the planks after he sanded the floor because now there are noticeable gaps that are getting worse. He further dismissed my complaint by saying that the humidity in the house caused the plank separation and the heavy traffic (my husband and I) caused the satin finish to wear. (What humidity, we live in California and haven't had rain in 3 years.) The original floor lasted a long time in comparison to Mr. Lees workmanship. Next time, I will get a detailed contract and a written guarantee. read more

I am usually a *positive Yelper*, but I have to write about my experience here. I was referred to Lee's Floor Sanding by a colleague who had them refinish her hardwood floors three years ago. They came highly recommended for responsiveness, skill, and price. I gave them a call regarding our hardwood floors which needed refinishing. There are 5-6 phone numbers listed on their website. I left a message for Jenny, and an older receptionist returned my call to set up an appointment the next week. Long story short, no one showed up. I called. They didn't have me on the schedule. A different (younger) girl said "Well I am the receptionist and I schedule all the appointments". Okay. Fine. I rescheduled for the following week. Another no show. What is going on here?! I called and they said "Oh, we are just running late...see you in 15 minutes". I then received a call back to verify my name, street address, and city. None of the information was correct - turns out I wasn't on the schedule again. At that point, I was considering just going with someone else. I gave them a third chance and told them to come the same day if they wanted to be considered for the job. A woman showed up who I presumed was Jenny, walked around to look at the floors, and then verbally gave me a quote. She asked if I wanted to schedule the job - I asked her to send me a quote in writing and then we could talk about scheduling. She asked for my email address on a scrap piece of paper. I never received the quote. I called to complain about all this - they told me it was the receptionist's fault and they had fired her. When SHE called me the next day (the same woman who they had "fired"), it was the last straw. Too many red flags - I wasn't at all confident in this group, and quite disappointed since the quote was very reasonable and they had come highly recommended. We were actually going to schedule due to the price, but backed out since I had a bad feeling in my gut. Several quotes later...we decided on a different Bay Area professional and had a great experience, from beginning to end. read more

When a friend took ownership of a house that was built in 1923, the hardwood floors in the house has seen better days. They were really in sad condition. When the Lee Floor Sanding estimator came out for an estimate, he pointed out a couple of areas that were poorly repaired previously and recommended it be replaced as the 'pattern' was so badly mismatched and would be highlighted after the floors was refinished. This was good advice. The crew that did the actual sanding did an excellent job. They were in and out in one day without any damage to the adjacent walls or baseboards. After sanding the floors, they applied the first coating of polyurethane. The next day, Harrison came out and buffed and applied the second coating of polyurethane. The third coating was applied by Harrison also. I took the time to watch Harrison do his magic. I was truly impressed with his skills in applying the coating! It was like poetry in motion. The living room, dining room, hallway and two bedroom floors are now as beautiful as the day they were originally laid, they are singing now! I have used Lee Hardwood floors over the last ten years. I had them either replace or refinish four apartments that I own. I then had them install 1,500.00 feet of new hardwood in my home. The workmanship is impeccable, they matched the color of the existing hardwood perfectly and the price was very reasonable. Not only have I received many compliments on my floors, but the work done in my residence probably increased the value of the property 200% more than the cost of the work. I called and was told they had left a message on my cell phone to reschedule; that's not true, and I hate being lied to. I asked if we could reschedule. Whoever I was speaking to on the phone asked me when we wanted the job doing, then told me he would call back later. Guess what? No one has called. So I can't comment on their work. My eighty-year-old floors had taken a lot of abuse, including some spectacular dog destructiveness. Lee Floor Sanding gave me the best price by far to repair them, which included sanding, 3 coats of oil finish, AND replacing the ruined places with new boards. The work did not include staining or glossy finish, but I love the warm natural matte look of the oiled oak boards. The replaced areas are almost invisible. The workers showed up each day exactly when they said they would, got the job done as estimated, were courteous and easy to work with, and did a perfect job. I bought a place with long neglected and damaged hardwood floors under some gnarly old wall to wall carpet. It was pretty dire under there but these guys really took care of it. We bought a new home and pulled up the carpets to reveal oak hardwood. The wood was in good shape but had some paint and scrathes. Also there was about 250 sq ft that was just subfloor with no hardwood. Called Floors De Le based on a recommendation. Showed up early for estimate and asked a lot of questions about what we wanted for floor direction, transition pieces and so on. They were the cheapest of the 3 estimates we received but don't let that fool you as far as their quality. The first day they installed the new hardwood over the 250 sq ft patch. They also sanded a small patch of the existing hardwood. They had me come over and pick a stain where they had laid out 5 stains in a nice area exposed to the sunlight. They then finished the sanding, stain and 3 coats of poly a few days later. The floors looked new and the new hardwood matched the original hardwood perfectly. They cleaned up exceptionally well with no sign they had sanded the entire house. I would highly recommend. read more
