Fair is fair. I ate here many years ago and was not impressed. Some local friends really wanted to go so we agreed to be flexible. So glad we did! Everything was great. Spirited service. We celebrated my son's 26th birthday here, and the food was amazing: Carpaccio di Zucchine e Burrata ($19.50): Super fresh zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and arugula. Calzone Funghi e Salsiccia ($23): Really filling and packed with meat. Pizza Prosciutto Crudo and Burrata ($24.50): Loved it! Areas for Improvement: They definitely need to replace their chipped plates. Two out of our three plates had chips on the edges, which wasn't a great look. Service: 3/5 Our server, Gabriela, brought out the calzone and cleared the zucchini plate. But after we finished the appetizer, our individual plates were still covered in vinaigrette and oil. She never offered us clean ones for the main course. Very, very good food. Highly recommend the calzone the sausage with the cheese and the mushrooms goes very well together.. pizza was also amazing. We got the prosciutto and Barada pizza and it was very high-quality. The prosciutto is added after it's cooked which I personally prefer makes it less prey, but some people prefer it cooked into the pizza instead. Service was OK. It took a while for our server to get around to us the first time but then she was very attentive. It was my friend's birthday and we got a free tiramisu which was very good as well. read more

Ambrogio claim of fame is the paper thin pizza Milano style. After watching the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortena and seeing Stanley Tucci's food picks I was craving thin crust pizza Milano style. I can't believe this restaurant has been here for over 9 years and it was my first time visiting. The outdoor patio with umbrella shades surrounded by live verdant plants was inviting. I was greeted cordially and seating by the owner Giocomo, who chatted with Me a bit. It turns out his restaurant space which rents was sold to the same developer that purchased French Gourmet which is two doors away. Ambrogio has 2 years remaining on his lease before the building and land is expected to be demolished :( Glad to at least visit this OG location before he reestablishes at another site. On to the pizza, I asked Giocomo for his recommendation and he suggested the Burrata with Proscuitto Crudo and I had fresh Arugula added on top. I don't eat pork products, but my pup Fendi does and she will eat the Proscuitto. Fendi loved the Proscuitto which was thinly sliced. It was a sunny day and a bottle of San Pellegrino was perfect to quench my thirst. The pizza was presented quickly and looked so good. The paper thinly prepared was the crust, which was scrumptious with the light toppings of seasoned tomato sauce, the fresh burrata and the green arugula was perfect, filling but I didn't feel overwhelmingly full and again with the thin crust you can actually eat the entire pizza guilt free! I ate a few slices and boxed the rest togo. With such a fantastic pizza at a wonderful setting with great service, I would return and try other pizzas in addition to other menu selections all inspired from Milan, Italy. An intimate upscale take on a classic comfort cuisine. A great date night with awesome wine, appetizers, and shareable dishes. All the dishes we ordered were flavorful and rich in obvious freshness. We started with a Caesar salad and it was perfectly dressed. It came with tomatoes which provided a freshness and texture that is not usually seen. Enjoyed their fresh classic focaccia, and it was absolutely delicious! The focaccia was crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside which was absolutely incredible! The pizza is thin crust which is a personal favorite. The owner was kind, welcoming, and helpful! Overrated and poor service. Skip this one.I'm shocked by the high ratings. We chose this spot for an anniversary dinner with family and were let down from the start. The hostess was rude, didn't greet our party of four, and just pointed us to a random table. The seating area felt neglected, complete with stained chairs and a wobbly table.As for the food, the pizza was completely bland, and the fettuccine was rejected by my kids. The octopus tasted okay but looked terrible on the plate. While the salad and zucchini appetizer were actually good, the kitchen only provided two pieces of bread for a party of four. I went to Embargo 15 Pacific Beach restaurant to have lunch yesterday. I would like you to help me to write a review. The food, the ambient is pretty good with nice tablecloths. However, the one of my plate is not clean. Also, the food is very, very simple and the price is very pricey. I ordered one of the vegetarian pizzas. It's cost me $19 and it only have about eight pieces of basil leaves as the vegan. And also the breads, the bread, $9. It's the same in other Italian restaurants. Usually they are free of cost. I find it's very expensive. We didn't eat too much protein at all and the cost about total 80 some dollars. read more

Enjoyed a lovely meal here last night. We were able to be seated immediately without a reservation at around seven for two. Everyone was very friendly and it seemed like they had a lot of regulars they build rapport with. You can also bring your dogs to eat on the outside tables with you. We ordered the lasagna and pizza Mediterranean. The lasagna was some of the best I've ever had. The meat was very tender and the pasta itself cooked well. Note that it's not very saucy so if you prefer a lot of sauce this might not be the dish for you. We were told that for the pizza the cheese would not be cooked with it, which was fine. We didn't realize that the olives and tomatoes would also not be cooked with the pizza. The pizza itself was also cold. Despite that, the crust had good flavor. I was not impressed by the pizza we had but I am excited to come back and try out more dishes ! read more

This was one of the best restaurants I've ever tried in my entire life. I don't know if I've ever had a better pizza, and I have been to countless Pizza & Italian restaurants. I don't give 5 stars unless a place has truly deserved it, and this restaurant definitely did. Amrogio15 has many locations around the SD area, we personally visited the one located in Pacific Beach. The atmosphere was the perfect blend of upscale and casual, and the distressed wooden walls and bright red chairs really gave the place a modern Italian vibe. The food was absolutely phenomenal. We started with bread and the Fried Calamari. The bread was perfect and the Fried Calamari was perfectly cooked, crispy, and came with 2 absolutely delectable dipping sauces. We also split a Insalata Della Casa (house salad) which was the perfect fresh palate cleanser in-between courses. The pizza, however, stole the show. My parents got the Margherita Pizza which they really enjoyed. I had a bite and it was amazing. However, I think mine was even better. I got the Salamino Piccante, which is mozzarella, salami, rosemary, garlic olive oil and grated parmigiano. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever tried in my life, the crust was the perfect thickness and the cheese and sausage were so flavorful. We ended with the yummy Crostata Frutti di Bosco that was topped with ice cream that tasted homemade. We will definitely be back when visiting SD, and definitely will be checking out the PHX location. read more

We first met Chef Enea when we started dining at Ambrogio by Acquerello. We were always super impressed with his ability to execute dishes amazingly, and to come up with very creative versions of Italian dishes. We were sorry to see them close - but were happy to find out that Chef was moving to the Pacific Beach location. We booked the four course Tuscan food and wine pairing experience and were really blown away. I'm Italian - and from the Bronx - and grew up eating food my Italian grandmother cooked. The dishes that Chef Enea served brought me right back to eating with my grandmother. My wife, who is a wine lover was also very impressed with the selection of wines as well as the choice of wine that was served with each course. We booked the next experience (Milan) in the car on the way home from dinner! We're looking forward to more meals with Chef that remind us of home. read more
