This place is awful. From dirty theatre's to poor presentation. What a shame amc has run this location into the ground.

This is a cool place that my wife and I stopped into to look at all of the different movies that were out and we had a chance in San Francisco. It was a rainy night didn't we have a whole lot going on with a lot of the sites that day so we decided to see a movie. I came here to see The Little Mermaid with my friend, who is hard of hearing. The open captioning showtimes are VERY limited, which is (sadly) understandable, but what isn't understandable is that their closed captioning devices are HORRIBLE. We spent so much time fidgeting with it, going in and out of the theater. Finally, we gave up because we didn't want to miss any more of the movie. I brought it up to an employee afterward, and she didn't seem to care at all. Didn't offer any kind of refund or even really any condolences for the fact that my friend paid almost $20 for a movie that she didn't really get to enjoy. If you struggle with any disability issues, I'd recommend going elsewhere. My guess is that this is a problem across AMCs. read more

It turns out the answer all along to what ailes us is a BIGGER SCREEN. I mean honestly, IMAX transforms even fairly mundane movies into something quite enjoyable and having grown up in the Bay, when I think IMAX, I think metreon. Being an AMC A-List member has made coming here to watch most things a no brainer too, though I do like going to the Kabuki. I will say that I'm bummed that the AMC on van ness closed. I love this place. Ever since they remodeled the IMAX (a couple years ago) its been wonderful. I think the seats are super comfy...they keep the bathrooms clean (at least in my eyes) and they are pretty prompt with the service at getting popcorn ($$$). I couldn't believe that I woke up 7 and went to see Dune this morning. A-List is really the best way to experience AMC.

There aren't too many AMCs in area, but this is the most convenient one to go to for me. It's integrated into the Metreon building, so the layout is a bit different compared to a stand alone location. Tickets are downstairs, but theyre mostly machines now, with a worker there for assistance. After going up to the main floor (stairs/escalators/elevators are available), you'll find the concessions and theaters. One good thing I suppose is that you don't need a ticket to access the snackbar. It's also nice because in my experience, AMCs usually have the nicer display stands, with occassional screen props/replicas on display. When you get to the ticket taker, it's really hit or miss. Sometimes the line gets backed up pretty far. The current check in system isnt the fastest, especially during peek hours like after work. The workers can also be a mixed bag. Sometimes there are nice ones, impatient ones, and really quiet ones. I hope AMC finds a way to streamline this process. A highlight of this AMC is that it's one of the legit IMAX experiences and not one of those LieMAX ones. The screen is huge. One downside is that this might be the only theater at this location that still has rocker chairs and not recliners. I'm not sure if they would ever upgrade at the cost of available seats. Every other theater I believe has the AMC electronic recliners. These aren't my favorite ones, I prefer Cinemarks. These sort of feel like you're scrunched in a sitting position, while the latter feels like lying down almost. Having recliners though is a welcomed upgrade from rocker seats. Please note that I haven't experienced the snackbar here, so I cannot comment on that. There are some things that can use improving here. With things like efficiency and customer service, if these improve, I would definitely revisit my score. read more

A half hour into our movie a couple sat a few seats down from us. They first were talking, then turning their phone flashlight on and off. We finally moved when they started having sex (yes, you heard me right). This theater wasn't even that empty either. My boyfriend also said a homeless guy was washing himself in the bathroom when he went. I will not be coming back. read more

I like coming to this movie theater. The seats are very comfortable and the movie quality is great, sound/vision ect, ticket purchase is easy and convenient. They offer tons of different snacks although I have not ever tried any thing when I have gone, only because usually when I go to this movie theater it is after dinner. This is a large and very convenient theater in the SoMa area. We saw a movie on a weeknight, and it was very easy to go in, buy a ticket at an automated kiosk, and sit in our assigned seats. Our seats were very comfortable and reclined. The seating was stadium styled, so there was no concern about someone's head blocking my view of the screen. I'm glad that cocktails are served. Movies are so much better with alcohol. read more

AMC Metreon is one of our favorite movie theaters in the Bay Area, and we normally only come here when we could book a full-day in SF for lunch, shopping, and dinner. The Metreon has come a long way since the old days when it was Sony Metreon. The theater is surrounded by lots of restaurants in the vicinity, and there's Yerba Buena Gardens next door for some greenery and a nice park feel. Both IMAX and Dolby are great. Whereas IMAX has more impressive visuals and gigantic screens, the Dolby theater offers reclining seats and pretty strong sound system. I could swear out seats were vibrating a little during Jurassic World! Actually surprised how convenient and large theater this AMC is in the city. There are plenty of self-service kiosk in the lobby to purchase your tickets and you can ride the elevators up to the third floor. Once you arrive on the third floor, if you are a A-Lister there is a sitting area in the far end of the theater, I was not a member but was able to sit there and wait. The only issue I have is these are assigned seats that you choose to sit and the staff does a decent job sweeping up the popcorn from the last occupant but not the butter stains. I've been lucky enough not to hit a grease spot but there have been close ones. Overall, great deal and comfortable reclining leather-like seats. read more

It's been YEARS since I've gone to see a movie. My friends were insistent and, it was a Tuesday, so what else would I be doing? Turns out, Tuesdays are $5 movie days. Sweet! Much of this AMC is automated -- from ticketing to drinks -- and it's not a bad thing. The bathrooms are also some of the nicest I've ever seen, and the seats are really, really nice. Good luck not falling asleep, especially after a long day at work. I think I've been converted. Next time I'm in the mood for a movie, I'll be back. AMC Stubs program is predatory, deceptive, and misleading. AMC attempts to trick people out of way more money than they think they are paying with fine print and "gotcha" tactics. This is a very common problem, but AMC will only respond with automated, bot responses on Twitter and will just repeat the same automated response. BUYER BEWARE. Do not sign up for AMC Stubs program, a legal scam that has cost me $100 over what I initially paid for the first month even though I cancelled. read more

I love this theatre! IMAX makes the difference. I prefer going to Metereon if I could help it but the only thing that I don't appreciate is the parking situation. The difficulty to be forced to pay for parking to watch a movie kinda sucks but still worth it. Watched a pre screening of Aladdin in IMAX and it was awesome and the organization of this theater and the staff are always good. We went to the Metreon to go the movies. Free movie! Free screening thanks to Yelp Elite Event, Kevin B. ("B." for Best YELP Comm. Mgr. ever!) and the AMC Theater 16. Inside the whole block of Metreon (as I best as I could tell) is where the AMC Theater 16 is tucked away, on the 3rd floor. There is where you get your popcorn/treats. All the buttery popcorn I wanted, thanks to my wife (she buys me whatever I want). LOL! OK, let me get on with my Yelp review. "Love,Simon" is a teenage movie, about a high school senior who is gay. He hasn't acted on it and no one suspects otherwise. The movie builds as Simon develops a deep crush on-line, with a guy who knows him, but Simon doesn't know who the writer is. And the movie takes off there; huge emotional moments "of who am I?", and having great friends & deceit, and family issues. I am not a particular fan of Hollywood's teenage movies, but this one I could relate to. I was thrilled that the audience applauded twice during the critical action points in the movie! It was very uplifting. I can't say more - or I'd spoil the ending. The AMC Metreon theater has enjoyable, plush, reclining seats. There are electric buttons to adjust your position. There are cupholders and plenty of legroom. Great sound system. Comfortable temperature, too. I'd be very happy to return to the AMC 16 Metreon Theater again! Even if you get stuck seeing a dud movie; you can still enjoy yourself in their very comfortable Theater. read more

The reserved seat feature is a time and stress saver. It's a bit more expensive than other theaters--I paid almost $40 for two tickets using Fandango. This was for a 4:10pm movie! I first looked at the 12:45pm pricing (which was cheaper) and thought that the 4:10pm movie would still count as a matinee, but I guess not? The seats are comfortable!! They are fully reclining barcaloungers! It's not an issue when people walk in front of your seats because there is room for people to pass even when your seat is reclined. Parking at 5th/Mission: $16 Quick bite before the show at Mel's: $46 Two tickets for 4:10pm movie: $37.56 Small popcorn/water $12 Total: $111.56 I enjoy going to the Metreon, but like most entertainment experiences in SF..... be prepared to pay. read more

First time buying tickets for the Dolby theater here for Black Panther. Thought it would we a good movie to try out the Dolby theatre with better sound and visual. Tickets are overwhelming high but I accepted because of the new experience. Tickets is $20+ BTW! So we got to our seats, sat down and found a hot mess! Just our seats too! We couldn't make out what it could have been from just lookin at the wall in front of us. But we declined and it got worse! The seats had this puke looking stain all over both of our seats. I felt uncomfortable the entire time I was watching the movie thinking it could accidentally get on my legs. I mean I just paid over $20 for one movie ticket. This theater is supposed to be new too. Wow this theater changed so much, It's a lot better now and the seats are pretty comfortable. I haven't been here in over 8 years. You still buy your tickets downstairs and you can take the escalator or elevator up to the theater. We got the reclining seats and i have to admit it's totally worth it. it's so much more comforter especially if you are watching a long movie or a scary one. The staff is pretty nice and the theater is kept pretty clean which is very important to me. read more

AMC Metreon 16 was a great theatre to go to during our trip up to San Francisco. One because it was in San Francisco. I love being in San Francisco. The food, the people, the atmosphere. Plus the ride up to San Francisco from San Jose is about an hour car ride so that equals one hour of catch up sleep for me, haha. Anyways back to topic, it was my first time going to the AMC Metreon 16. We went with one of my husband's friend from high school. He knows that my husband is a die hard Star Wars fan so he wanted to take him to a big screen theatre. We were there to see the latest Star Wars movie, the Last Jedi. Last time we were up in San Jose, he took us to the last Star Wars movie at a domed theatre and that was awful. But this AMC Metreon was great. They had comfy big seats and the screen was massive. We have an IMAX in Hawaii but it definitely isn't as big as the one at AMC Metreon. It was nice too because you can reserve your seats online and just pretty much show your phone to the ticket person and they will show you in. We didn't even have to stand in line for tickets. I heard the next Star Wars venture is coming out in May. Unfortunately, I won't be up here in May, but I hope that the next time I'm here I can come to see something at the Metreon again. read more

With The Last Jedi, the Star Wars franchise has produced a new movie in each of the last three years. As a Star Wars fan, being able to watch the movie at its best presentation is the ultimate, memorable experience. After watching The Force Awakens in IMAX Real 3D at the Metreon, I've been back for the new Star Wars release. The Metreon sports the largest screen in North America and the second largest in the world. The clarity and detail from IMAX is amazing. Add in 3D, you get a unique visual experience adding depth and more clarity. Though you need to wear 3D glasses, you'll forget you had them on after the movie starts. To complete the experience, the theater produces heart-pounding audio with its speaker sound system. It's an ultimate movie viewing experience. I also appreciate the ability to reserve your seat online ahead of time. We have our favorite seat section in the theater and this ensures I will be sitting in that section. Granted the price is higher than the regular tickets, for special movies, IMAX 3D provides an ultimate movie viewing experience. read more

Nice theater, but you pay for what you get. A regular movie will run you about $15.49 during the week in the evening. The reclining seats are really nice and there is also a power footrest on the chairs that can be adjusted as well. There is a wall in between each row that completely separates you from the people in front and behind you, it also serves as a sound barrier for people who are talking or whatever. Going to see a movie at the metreon is definitely a luxury experience. read more

Woof... Well, let's start with the positives: 1) the screen and audio are good... Ok, now to the negatives: 1) Bugs, when I was watching 1917 there was a roach that crawled literally on my arm as I was reclined in the chair (couldn't get a pic as my phone was off), 2) the seats are in bad shape with scratches and wear, which can be overlooked, 3) the staff basically ignored me, 4) I was an AMC stubs A-list member due to my previous experiences with AMC going well, but after this experience and their overall customer service I have cancelled it. I haven't seen a movie at the Metreon ever since Sony and Microsoft moved out until recently when I saw Black Panther in their specific theater room with Dolby Digital Sound. I'm an audiophile and thought the whole experience was hella awesome. Screen isn't too huge like xD or iMax but the resolution is still sharp. Sounds was great and really added to the movie watching experience to go along with seats that recline. I'll give the Dolby Digital sound and visual experience a 5 star. What I didn't like was 1) One ticket checker for the entire theater? What? I remember there used to be several before Target moved in..., 2) What did you guys do with the arcade games? A movie theater isn't the same without that, 3) Can you give an explanation to why the bathrooms are closed besides that they're closed? And why only one set of bathrooms for the entire theater? Makes it worse when you tell them to use the bathroom downstairs and then you have to deal with the long time to get back in. read more

This is our go to spot for movies in San Francisco. My girlfriend and I went here to see Avengers: Infinity Wars and I love the update that they have done with this movie theatre. You can either get in line to get your tickets or get your tickets in one of the computer kiosks they have on the side. The concession area upstairs is still big but appears to be bare and not have a lot of choices. They sure have a lot of soda machines though that offer a lot of flavors, than can be seen right before you enter the movie theatre. I've also seen that they offer alcohol now in their "specialty drinks" area. I can't really comment much about the food they have because we usually eat before seeing the movies. Another upgrade that was long overdue was the reclining seats and reserved seating. These are by far the best upgrades a movie theatre can do. The seats were cozy, big, it reclines, and with arm rests you wouldn't have to share with the person next to you anymore. Another good thing is that there is plenty of room of walk space in front of the seats. Only thing I wish they can do better is to keep the hallways of the theatre clean because it tend to be messy at times. Other than that, the building has a lot of things to do before or after the movies. From restaurants, to quick grubs, coffee, Target, and a park next to it, you'll never run out of things to do. I can comfortably say that this will continue to be our go to movie theatre in San Francisco. read more

I visited this theatre and it was chill until about 2 managers kept following me asking how big it was and the color of the tip and I have no clue what their referencing too because I didn't have any pens or colored pencils on me. They were a bothersome duo. read more

FRIENDLY STAFF - DIRTY THEATER - BIG RECLINING SEATS I've been to this theater a few times now and WOW it is always gross. However, the staff is always friendly which is weird because usually dirty venue =/= friendly staff. The theater layout is a bit strange. You buy your tickets downstairs at an automated ticket kiosk and then find the escalators. They really need to post signs or make it more obvious what should be done. The seats in the theater are lounge style - not stadium. The seats are generally pretty good. However, the control services to recline it are always disgusting. I mean I don't expect the seats to be disinfected after every movie but it looks like some of this stuff has never been cleaned. Someone had spilled popcorn on the carpeted floor and the unfortunate employee who had to clean it up had the most destroyed broom and dustpan. Give this man a vacuum! Sitting in a batman movie for 3 hours where the same person purposely picked up the phone and have a conversation out loud, then continue to talk to himself for the next 2 HOURS! The police came twice and only escorted him out after 2 hours.. AMC doesn't allow refund after the movie and basically ruined everyone's movie. read more

- I dont know what's worse? An Elite event that was poorly planned, a movie with 12 year olds cursing almost every other word, or a theater charging way too much for snacks, food, and beverages. I am truly disappointed all around. THE THEATER : a second rate theater with subpar seats. The restroom is in the front of the theater. If your in theater 15 and you really have to go, you have a long walk ahead of you. From theater 15 to the restroom, you need to pass 6-7 theaters. The seats again are subpar. I've been in theaters with better seats, and from the outside you would expect less. Completely over priced. I think it's over priced due to the fact that the theater is in SAN FRANCISCO. THE PRICE : 1 medium pop corn, a 20oz bottle for $12.48. 2 IPA Beers for $15.82. Total $38.30 and with this price I could have gotten a 6pack of IPA, a case of water (40, 16oz water), a box of microwave popcorn, and still have about $8.00 left over. I agree with many other reviews, this place is over priced. THE MOVIE : I am Elite and was blessed to get to watch "Good Boys" in theaters August 16th. I stayed for 40 minutes due to the fact that it had its moments I laughed about 5 times. However the language these 12 year old kids are using, I never used at that age. The movie makes parents look bad here in the states. Second the movie is an oxymoron. It tell you its RATED "R" so it's not appropriate for young adults. Yet this movie had children doing and saying, well you will see. THE ELITE EVENT: This is the worse event. It was poorly set. No beverages or snacks given. No gifts or efforts given for this event. Half the theater was for Yelp Elite and the other half for regular customers. I never had this happen before in any event. I now need to change old Elite events because this was the worse. Came to Metreon for the 1st time tonight and now I see what I am missing out on. The seats all recline which is amazing so comfortable. I never came here before because it's not as close as AMC Kabuki which I can walk to from my house. The friend I saw Like a Boss with here loves this theater and I can see why. It's a huge movie theater with declining seats!!! Even though it's a more expensive movie theater because of their reclining seats I'm assuming I can still use my amc passes and not pay additional. What's even more convenient about this theater is that there are a lot of dining options at the metreon such as Sanraku which is where we ate before the movie. read more

It's fine. I mean, I've always lived in an area where I could just park a few hundred feet from the entrance, walk in, and see a movie. Here, you need to pay in a parking lot (don't bother looking for parking on the street), dodge some a few bums, and go up a few flight of stairs, making this more of an adventure than most of my Atari 2600 games. But, it was way more comfortable and clean (aside from the popcorn on my seat) and functional than older reviews suggest and I appreciate the army of Coke dream machines. read more

This review is more 2.5 than 3 but I had to round up. I went for a Yelp event to see a premier of Good boys. When we arrived at the theater I noticed tons of eateries. We then proceeded upstairs to the theater to find the check in area. We got a stamp on our wrist in place of a ticket. We were then directed to the theater the movie would be playing in. It was at the very end of the theaters. Normally I wouldn't mind except the fact the concession stand was way at the other end as well as the restrooms. As for the concessions it's way over priced. I got a medium popcorn, it was stale and had a strange aftertaste and a bottle of water this set me back $12.50 We also got 2 beers that costs close to $16 bucks. I dont know how much the movie was as it was paid for by Yelp. As far the theater the seats were comfortable and recline but I was so hot and sweaty by the time I got to the movie I wasnt really happy. It was a bit stuffy with all the people in the theater. Our seats were towards the top rows as they were reserved. Kinda sucked for people like me with knee problems (stairs and my knee don't play together well) before the movie we were told to turn off our cell phones and put them away and that security will be around checking, if you're caught with your phone you get kicked out. Well thanks I'm not dumb but man!! Kinda off putting. Halfway through the movie I was over it and left. Would I come back? Highly doubtful. Overpriced and paying for parking on top of it.
