A little over a week after posting my review, Ameco setup an appointment with SolarEdge (the inverter manufacturer). The SolarEdge technician came out and determined that some wiring from the initial installation was not installed correctly and that there was a possible issue with the inverter. After replacing the inverter and correcting the wiring, I'm happy to report that I now have a functioning solar battery backup system that works properly. During the past 2 weeks, I have had 4 power outages (ranging anywhere from 1-6 hours) during which time the backup batteries kicked in flawlessly. At this point I am a satisfied customer. Thinking about this update, I was unsure whether to up my rating to 3 or 4 stars. I'm still disappointed at the issues I had not only during the initial system failure but also the prolonged installation period I experienced. Ultimately, I believe that Ameco did their best to remedy the situation. Although I feel it could have been done in a much more timely manner with better communication. I shouldn't have to be the one to follow up and see what is being done. Sometimes communicating that there are no updates is better than not communicating anything to me at all. 4 stars read more

I had originally posted a 3-star review of Ameco, stating that their sales and installation phases were outstanding, but that their follow-through on maintenance issues was subpar. Specifically, I had been trying to resolve a problem for four months since I originally informed Ameco of the issue. After I posted my original Yelp review, I was contacted immediately by Ameco with an explanation, an apology, and a way-ahead. I learned that the Ameco company who installed my system in July of 2015 had been sold twice in the intervening years, meaning that the current Ameco was not responsible for any labor warranties that I may have received from the original Ameco. However, to ensure that the new Ameco maintained a solid reputation, they graciously agreed to oversee the repairs of my system at no charge. It was clear that this was a one-time only favor to make up for their lack of communication, and I greatly appreciated it! I was reminded that Ameco is responsible for the overall installation process and coordinating subsequent repairs, but the parts are still warrantied by their respective manufacturers. I worked closely with Erick over the ensuing few months to replace a faulty solar panel, and he was a pleasure to work with! He followed up with me at every step of the process and ensured that I was a completely satisfied customer. I contacted Ameco Solar after finding a few leaks in my roof along with some other issues and responded back to me almost immediately. They were able to quickly and effectively come by and check it out just a few days after I had contacted them. They had great customer service and answered all the questions I had for them. I had no trouble and knew that my home was in good hands. Ameco also did a great job of cleaning out the existing panels on top of the roof. They knew what they were doing and they were able to get it done quickly. They also made sure to follow Covid-19 safety procedures and made sure to be aware of social distancing laws. They wore masks, protective gear, and genuinely made me feel safe. Although I didn't directly purchase any solar panels from them, I'll be sure to in the future if needed. Ameco Solar is the best solar company in the business. They have been around since 1974! Go ask any other solar company how long they have been around. If your roof starts to leak 20 years from now, do you think the company that has been around for the past five years will be around? So that is one reason to go with them. Ameco Solar is also the most knowledgeable company around. When I interviewed other solar companies I was greeted by a salesman who knew less about solar power than I did. I have done my research and Ameco knew more than I did which was a good sign. Their salesman also had a mockup of a roof and he showed me what they were going to do to my roof. The hardest part of the solar job is removing the roof tiles and attaching the structure to your roof. Ameco employs roofers who know what they are doing. You don't want to have someone make a mistake on your roof. If water gets in over time it can make a huge mold problem. So you must have someone who is knowledgeable. Ameco also had several options for me and they did a price comparison for me with all of the features of each one. They didn't pressure me into the highest price option. They were patient with me when I took a couple of months to think it over and obtain bids from other places. I've had my system for the past three years and the experience with Ameco has been excellent! They were professional, thorough, and they knew what they were doing. I stopped the river of money going to SCE and I highly recommend that you do the same by having Ameco install a solar system on your house. FYI...I am not a friend or relative of someone who works at Ameco and they did not pay me to give such a glowing review. They actually earned it. read more

I usually do not give review to a product or company until I try it. Most of the time we contact them if we have problem and concern then from that point you can TEST the integrity of the customer service, reliability of the product. I started having issue with my Solar Panel after 3 years being installed. Birds are going under the panel. I contacted several Solar Company to ask for help. Majority of them asked me if its them who installed my system. Most of them replied that they cannot help me because my answer to their question is NO. I Even contacted the company that installed my system which is SOLAR UNIVERESE under the management of NEIL SAXON but the result was NONE. I would like to give my highest appreciation to Ameco solar especially ALEX. Eventhough , I am not their customer. I can tell they want to help me in anyways. I had another major Solar installer come and give us a quote which was way over what Ameco had quoted. Working with Todd and David was a pleasure. They were extremely responsive and you could get the sense that they both enjoyed their line of work and cared about taking care of the client. There was no pressure. There is definitely something to be said about using a reputable company like Ameco, it is worth it in the long run in my mind. I was recommended about Ameco Solar from a friend. I called in to be informed about the price for the solar panels. They advised me to use the Enphase micro inverter. The Ameco Solar company chooses the inverter that best suits my unique situation. The Enphase inverter allows panel-level monitoring and maximized individual panel performance. AMECO Solar installed out initial systems eight years ago. They took the time to create the optimum configuration to meet our needs, make use of our home's structure, & aesthetic wishes. As we are at home more after our retirement and are seriously considering the purchase of a plugin car, we will soon be using AMECO again to add more panels & update our system. Three guys came to install the panels, and two left right away to go to lunch. OK-schedule not my problem. Long story short, the City came to inspect the installation and in spite of detailed plans, the system was installed incorrectly. Clearance from the front of the roof was supposed to be 12" (per plans, and per code) and it was 3", and needless to say, failed inspection. So...it had to be moved, and of course I had 2X the holes in my roof. Then the holes were patched improperly and I had a roof leak. I called my roofer to fix everything...almost $600. I spoke with the manager of Ameco and he wasn't willing to credit my account for my extra expense initially but after numerous conversations finally took the $600 off my bill. Since they were a bit more expensive than others I thought I was making the right decision. If Ameco can't install correctly to its own plans, I wonder what else may be wrong. Very knowledgeable company. AMECO installed my system back in 2002. My Sunny Boy inverter finally gave out, but outlasted it's predicted lifetime. It was replaced by a newer and more efficient inverter and it works perfectly. 7 years ago Ameco installed my solar system. The installation was done on time and as promised at a very fair price. Pat Redgate, the owner, was the first solar installer that told me not to buy a system large enough to replace all my electricity usage. He showed me that the return on my investment would take too long and I should continue to buy the first two tiers of inexpensive electricity that Edison provided me. As time has gone on, I've replaced incandescent bulbs with LED's, my system now covers all of my electricity usage. Clearly, if I had bought a larger system, I would have been selling electricity back to Edison at rates that wouldn't have come close to covering the cost. I'm sure larger systems are more profitable to the installer. Pat's honesty was refreshing. A few weeks the neutral wire to my house was damaged during one of our recent storms. Around the same time the solar system went down due to a bad circuit breaker. I have to believe the two were related. When I called for service, Pat answered the phone (how many other solar companies have an owner that's so involved). I suspect Pat could have argued the issue occurred because of the Edison issue not a system issue, and charged me to service the breaker I never received a bill and when I asked I was told he wasn't going to charge me. Even 7 years after the installation, Pat and Ameco stood behind the system and more. I couldn't be more satisfied with the system, the installation, or the support. read more

Had our solar system installed last September. The whole process went fast and efficient. Todd and David were both good in keeping us informed along each step. Any slowing occurred in getting the process approved by LADWP. I waited until now to to write a review because I was waiting for the electric bills to start coming in. Even though it was a huge financial investment I do not plan on moving from this house. So we went ahead with purchasing 24 solar panels, Our first bill from LADWP was zero for electrical usage, I figured it was credit from the previous 4 months. Our latest bill was 22.00 just the service charge for billing. Since the IRS is still offering tax credit for solar energy the whole investment I feel will turn out just right, But remember to get at least 3 estimates and save the last for the best. I've had to only call them twice for some minor maintenance on the pool system. I've never had any issue at all with my PV system. I did quite a bit of reseach before buying. I got quotes from Sol Fusion, su..... I didnt get a quote from Peterson Dean. I found Ameco to be the best bang for the buck. So much so after I had 5 bids, I called a few more, told them the Ameco price, and they wouldnt quote. It you look at price per KW hour... Ameco is best. they offered the top of the line Sun Power panels as well as the LG ones I decided to get. Todd was great! Dave Saltzman, the project manger was ahead of schedule and non intrusive at all!. Price and service, this is a great company!. I purchased my panels. My installation was just completed about 4 weeks ago. Everything was awesome. The planning and attention to detail was beyond my expectations. The installation was perfect - not even visable unless you're on the roof! I'm generating enough power to supply 100% of my needs at this moment (although the heat of summer is coming - but also the cool of winter!). Thanks to the wise counsel of Pat and Dave I bought enough panels to max out the inverters so my system is 14 KW. I'd interviewed some other companies and was totally turned off by the high pressure sales techniques. Just wanted to give a quick update as summer is around the corner and I'm starting to think about how early I might be able to take a dip! One of my biggest worries was ongoing support and customer service. I've had problems 4 different times over the past few years and they treat me with courtesy and speedily resolve the problem. Twice fence bolts unbolted from my concrete fencing. They came out both times and the second time really did an exceptional job on re-anchoring the troublesome bolts. Once there was a problem with a missing valve. They popped a new one in the mail and I got it the next day. The last time a piece of the PVC came away from a connection causing a leak on my roof. They talked me through turning off the system and came out next day (it might have been same day) to fix the PVC. Just excellent. I continue to give them a 5 star rating. read more

Ameco Solar did a great job. I did a lot of research online for ways to heat our pool with solar panels. It is an odd shape and at nearly 70' in length the water temps were pretty cold. I called and was connected with Todd who scheduled a time the next day to come out and take a look at pool and our equipment. He spent a good amount of time measuring the pool, our roof and made sure to ask me what I thought of the placement of the panels on the roof. He suggested on the side of the house as he didn't want them to be seen from the backyard or the front. Clearly he has done this many times as he said your wife will not want to look at them. :) He took the time to explain all of the panels that are currently on the market and what to be cautious of and what questions to ask of other installers. He never bad mouthed the competition but provided his insight on why the products they chose to use are superior. At the end of the day their quote was not the cheapest but for the reasons above and the quality of the product I chose Ameco and have been very satisfied. I asked them to put a rush on the install and they were able to move things around and schedule us in in less then a week. Install was smooth and uneventful. My pool which was previously un-swimable heated up to the mid 70's after just a few days and has been very comfortable in the 80's all summer long. Fast forward 6 months I noticed a small leak from one of the panels on the roof. I called and they sent a crew out to take a look. It was diagnosed and fixed in about 10 minutes. I am gladly giving Ameco Solar the highest possible rating!! I used Ameco to install my solar panels in 2009, and my 6KW PV system has been trouble-free, the performance has exceeded my expectations, and the system has already paid for itself, 8 years later. I am extremely pleased! I chose Ameco after doing extensive research into the technical and economic tradeoffs of a PV system (I'm an engineer, so this was my usual MO). I had screened a dozen or so other companies over the phone already and ruled them out based on their inability to answer my questions to the level of detail I needed. I ended up inviting three companies to provide me with bids. For Ameco, Pat performed the site visit and he was more thorough than the other companies (he actually climbed onto my roof, which none of the others did), and he was vastly more knowledgeable about the industry and technical issues as a whole. He was able to offer customized recommendations for my system while the other companies stuck to generic formulas and component choices. I was having my entire roof replaced at the same time as having the solar panels installed, so the Ameco installers had to coordinate with my roofer to merge their installation schedules. They worked together without a hitch. Ameco handled all the paperwork to get me the tax credit and the utilities rebate, so it was a complete turnkey operation for me. I was really impressed with how quickly and efficiently they completed the whole process. During all the interactions I had with Ameco folks, they were professional, responded promptly to my communications, and were genuinely commited to doing a high-quality job. A friend I recently referred to Ameco just finished having his own 9KW PV system installed by Ameco. He loves showing me endless pictures of his electric meter marching backwards! I signed a solar panel installation contract with Ameco Solar in the end of October 2019. According to the contract Ameco had to get all permits and approvals by the mid of December 2019. I planned to install panels by the end of 2019 to get 30% of the Federal incentive. Whole November I emailed them asking if everything is fine and smooth. I did that because I did not feel any activities. Often they did not reply, but when they did they confirmed that everything is good and no reasons not to have panels installed by the end of 2019. In the mid of December when they passed a deadline I asked them again. It turned out that they forgot that I live in HOA area and they have to get an approval from HOA. Also it turned out that they didn't have a city approval. They started promised me that very very soon it will be ready. It was clear for all of us that panels won't be installed in 2019 at least because there was no chance to get HOA approval in Christmas period. I asked them in the end of 2019 that due to the contract breach I want to break the contract and please return my $1000 deposit. And even at that moment (2 weeks after the deadline) they did not get the city approval. They said that since they did some job (drawings) they can't return me my deposit even in case of they breached the contract! I prepared documents to file a small claim and in the end of the January they informed me that they got all approvals, let's proceed. The end of the January, 7 weeks later!!! They had a few attempts to submit drawings but looks like the city returned them papers, though my project is super simple. Right at this moment I notified them that I will sew them and only that helped to get my $1000 back. Amazing! Everyone can fail, but after you failed you can still try to resolve a conflict well. But not Ameco Solar! No one can return me my my time and loss of 4% Federal incentive difference. read more

I recently had AMECO Solar install a 12 panel (4 south and 8 west) system on my house. I"m very happy with their work. (FYI from my novice research south facing panels get the most sun over the course of the year, next best is west. East and north may not justify the costs of the panels and system) Here is the back story, I have a tricky roof (staggered pitches that do not connect and lots of vents). I got quotes from Sunrun, Solar City, Sunpower, & Sungevity. I almost went with Sunrun (even signed the initial paperwork) then then went with Solar City because they had a fantastic deal with newer higher efficiently panels. Satellite drawings stated they could get 12 panels on the roof (2 east and 10 west). Solar City came out did the roof inspection (BEWARE they will drill a couple holes in your roof for a safety line). Engineers stated they could only put 10 west panels on my roof because of the fire code set backs. I tried to talk to their engineers, but they would not speak to me. (Sales person later stated the reason they could not put the 2 east panels was because of their policy to not wire fewer than 3 adjacent panels). So I decided to call AMECO after doing even more research. Spoke to John Allen. I gave him all the quotes and the drawings. Off the bat he stated they would be more expensive, do a better job, and was confident that they could fit 12 panels. He was as or more knowledgable then everyone else. An added benefit is AMECO offered 320watt panels from Panasonic so I could get more bang out of each panel. He could not recommend the Sunpower 360 watt panels because he admitted to not having used them before. Received AMECO's quote and it was 30% higher than Solar City & Sunrun. So I called Mr. Allen and asked him to justify the extra costs. He stated the type of installation and materials used would be superior then the other companies. Additionally, AMECO did not subcontract out the work, they only used in house licensed employees. Another major reason I went with AMECO, they were the only company who provided (without me asking) a client referral list. They provided at least 50 names and numbers of past clients who I could independently call. With that kind of confidence I was sold. System was estimated to produce 16 kWh per day. In March I'm already producing 17-20 kWh per day depending on the clouds. So I should be producing even more as the days grow longer. All in all yes the added 30% cost did hurt. And yes I'm sure solar city and sunrun are good mass production quality products and installation. However, if you want or can spend a little more to ensure better quality installation and products, then may I suggest checking out AMECO. read more
