Clean, nice atmosphere but not what I expected for a fish fry. I was disappointed in the all you can eat fish fry. It was my first Milwaukee fish fry. The fish was dry, overcooked and the beer batter was salty, chewy and not a good flavor. I am a big fan of fish and all but this was not good. At least in my own opinion. Ameila's Restaurant is a small place with an airplane theme. Many of the Air Force base reservists/employees are there at the end of the work day giving the airplane theme more authenticity. The bartenders are very friendly and the service is great. The food is your typical bar-style options but they are done well. The real surprises come from their wonderful pizzas. They can match any Italian restauraunt around. The crab legs are a specialty that brings many people in, although I am not a seafood fan, those who do order them love them. Did I say bar-style food? It is nicely beer battered and good size portions. 2nd helping came out within a few minutes. Service was good too. I have been here quite a few times and always had a pretty decent experience. After my last visit I won't be back. My friend and I ordered appetizers. We quickly realized we received the wrong appetizer. The server told us to enjoy them and she would be back with the correct order. After we had both grabbed one out of the basket, the server came back and informed us that it belonged to another table. She then scurried away with the basket leaving us pretty grossed out. Friday Hours 11-2, Kitchen closing at 1am. It's an average Fish Fry. It was nice to sit inside as Amelia's can open it's windows....rare for a bar. The down side is the fish can be chewy where it gets thin and the batter is thicker. Beer batter I think. The upside is that you can have as many fish pieces as you like. Three is plenty, but I didn't have many home made potatoes chips and got one more piece. The slaw is creamy and the marbled bread normal. I went here on recommendation of Yelp! Was in the mood for fish fry Friday and saw that Amelia's had very nice reviews, so I decided my lunch would be here. I found the location easy enough as it was located on a major street and had easy parking. I stopped in and was immediately greeted and told I could sit anywhere. I chose to sit in a booth, and was meet by my waitress. She recommended the endless cod fry and who am I to argue lol! The food came out hot and with plenty of sauce,slaw and food! It was nicely battered fish with just the right balance. Have been looking for a place with some good all you can eat crab legs for a while and have heard Amelia's mentioned a few times and gave it a shot. Walked in about 6:30PM on Saturday night to a nearly empty dining room. Surprising considering Friday night fish fry is usually packed. The crab leg dinner was no longer "all you can eat". 2.5 pounds for $25.95 including a soup or salad and a choice of sides. Additional clusters were $6.00. The chicken dumpling soup came out like warm at best with no dumplings. Just plain ole' chicken soup. I did mention to the waitress to have them turn the soup up and after an apology, she brought another one out in a to go container. Love great customer service. The crab legs came out and when I asked the boyfriend how they were I got a "they're good but not much in them". My Reuben on the other hand was tasty and had a good amount of corned beef on it. This place is easy to find; The Bartender ignored me most of the night. Happy hour was not very happy at all; The karaoke sucked as did the singers. The waitress took forever to show up and when she did she strongly smelled of cigarettes and the place was leaking water like a sieve. The waitress spoke out against most of the food including most of the pizza which is supposed to be the one thing that is supposed to be really well received there. The deserts were all really heavy My salad barely resembled a salad The French Dip was barely passing for okay. I ate here with a bunch of people I never met before and it was a great time. There were five of us, online friends getting together in real life for the first time. The hostess sat us in one of those nice curved booths so that we could all pretty much face each other while we ate. We started with the appetizer sampler. This is basically a big ole basket of fried things: cheese, mushrooms, wings, onion rings. It's been years since I had a basket of fried things in front of me and I tried (but failed) to show some restraint. The onion rings were good, the mushrooms were standard, the mozarrella was standard, but whatever the other cheese was (some yellow cheese, Wisconsin cheddar maybe?) was excellent. Didn't try the wings but my new friends devoured them. For dinner I had the fish fry all you can eat special (A Friday night thing) for $10.99 (if I remember correctly). The cod was thick and nicely breaded, not greasy, and very fresh tasting. The fries and coleslaw were nothing special but the fish more than made up for that. The beer menu is not challenging but had some nice choices. I had a couple of Fat Tires on draft. So all in all a good dining experience for a restaurant a stone's throw from the airport and a nice welcome to Milwaukee. Also, I want to note how nice the staff were to me when I managed to drop my phone down a crack behind one of the booths. It turns out the booths are bolted to the floor and even the cushions can't be lifted. So a couple of the waitresses spent half an hour with long spoons and tongs saving my phone for me. We moved closer to Amelia's about 4 years ago and after living in Milwaukee almost all my 60 yrs we finally walked in the door. After our first visit we have been regulars ever since. The menu items are all very nice but we usually end up there for their Ribs special (Thursdays). Fall off the bone tender every time. They also do a very nice fish fry and fried chicken (not as good as Gold Rush -- but still very good) The only negative on the horizon is their coleslaw. It seems very erratic. Sometimes it's wonderful, other times not so much. Sometimes it tastes of horseradish, other times not. Several nights a week they have live music, it's a pleasant atmosphere with lots of patrons in and out. There's a group of long time waitstaff with one or two short-timers from time to time -- but the longevity of staff says a lot about how they treat people. I had the the buffalo chicken (wet) with blue cheese and my sister and my co-workers had the all u can eat crab legs,and her mother had the pizza. Now I order the chicken wings but I had a taste of the crabs legs and I was sad because I didn't order none I kept looking and their bucket and wishing they where mine. I had some pizza and that was great too. Now im a chicken lover and most places that service other things always have the worst chicken, but to my surprise my chicken was AWESOME. I had a glass of wine and then I was asked if I wanted a glass.of wine on the house! I am a wine drinker so this place stoled my heart with that one glass of wine on the house...... AMY our waitress was the best she was so polite and on top of things she didn't come by every five seconds asking were we ok she let us mingle and when she saw that BUCKET empty like a fairy she came back with an full one... our waitress was on point and polite she will be my number one lady..... Awesome service and good food. A few family members were here before and recommended. I met up with a couple of friends for a catch up dinner. The service was great. Girls were helping on each others tables. Team work keeps customers happy. The food was hot and tasty. 2 burgers. 1 with bacon. Extra crispy without asking. A top gun which is sliced beef and liver and onions. All had flavor and generous portions. $51 for 4 people food and soft drinks. Not a bad price and we were too stuffed for dessert. Place is larger than it looks from the outside. Everything looked clean. Plenty of parking after 5 when you can park next door too. Will definitely come back here again. read more

I have been coming here for two years and I can honesty say?? I absolutely love it here for the weekends! There's no bar fights like the other places around the neighborhood, they have the BEST DJ Michelle hosting the karaoke at times and I love love love the food and waitresses! It does get packed and they do have a decent size dance floor with mirrors so you can see how you working it honey!!!! Such a chill back date night place or apps and drinks after work! yikes! First and last time visiting! i had to send an order of a grilled cheese back to the kitchen! how does one mess up an order of a grilled cheese sandwich you may ask? it was toasted with 2 slices of kraft singles thrown on it. The cheese wasnt even melted. The returned product was obviously grilled with melted cheese but the fact that they tried to pass that off in the first place was laughable. It looked like something you might get in prison and was very obviously thrown together without much thought. The rest of my party was pretty "meh" about their food also. To the waitresses credit, she did apologize a number of times about having to return the food to the kitchen and it came out in a timely manner but, what place screws something that simple up? Maybe I should give this place a 1 or 2 star, but it was a quiet and comfortable spot to have a long overdue family get together, and we enjoyed being there, despite the food. The main problem with the food was that some of it seemed old and had freezer burn. I probably shouldn't have let them get away with this, but our main purpose was getting together, not the food. I think it all would have been OK, like a typical Greek style restaurant that has a big menu and none of it is horrible, but nothing is special either, except some of the food had a really old taste. If I ever went there again, I would tell them that last time my food had old freezer taste and ask them to make sure this time that it was fresher (I imagine all their meals are pre-made and frozen), warning them that I would not pay for anything that had freezer burn again. read more

Stopped in Las Wed night for a little karaoke. Host was from "DrunkKaroke" although this host had a decent voice, she was one of the most Vulgar persons I've ever encountered in a bar. And I've been in lots being an active musician. Truly she needs her mouth washed out with soap. What a pig. Returned a few nights later Sunday night. Different karaoke host. No complaints about her. Nice job. Great price, 10.99 all you can eat. Went with my girlfriend. Tried both the cod and smelt. The cod batter was crunchy and the fillets were huge. Two of the pieces i had were great, and one was more tough. Cod flavor was a 7/10. The smelt was nice and crunchy, but a little bit juicy. I am a fan of smelt, this was not great. Id rate the flavor/texture about 5.5/10. It wasn't terrible, but I have had better. The coleslaw was pretty good, had a bit of a kick to it (horseradish or something). Fries are what you would expect for any pub scene.(came with plenty) and a lemon slice. Ill give it a theoretical 3 out of 5 stars because our waiter demanded "pay me" and had little manners, although others seemed to be nicer. I don't want to lower the rating because of the waiter, after all, we are here for the food anyway. All in all, I would recommend it. Nice booths and you can even sit outside.
