I'm a pretty loyal and frequent American Airlines flyer, and I have never experienced the severe lack of customer service that I have during this trip from hell. Every single gate agent at the terminals was nasty and unhelpful. Particularly a woman named Shakira, whose hips probably lie like her mouth does. When my flight was rebooked, I asked if she could assign me a new seat she told me straight up to my face that she can't see the Dallas flight she only handles Houston ones. Strangely enough the only helpful woman there WAS able to look it up and even assigned me the seat in the same class I was in on my canceled flight. Shakira's little friend, who knows her name they all had their name tags covered, (I asked Shakira for her name) also treated me with disdain and like she had no time for me, in fact in the middle of our conversation (about my Dallas flight before the other lady stepped in to help) she started other tasks and once she finished those, WALKED AWAY. Walked AWAY. While I've been standing at the counter right in front of her face for at least 20 minutes. When I said to the other woman standing there that had already gone through 4 people behind me that she was helping me and just left... she said oh she must have forgot. She must have forgot? So she helped me and said woman returns she says to her... you forgot about her and she's like "yea she was talking about a voucher yadda yadda yadda" so you didn't like me inquiring about what every single other person is inquiring about when you cancel flights so you choose to ignore me and WALK AWAY?? Fast forward to this morning after having been up for 28 hours now, arrive to the airport to ANOTHER DELAYED FLIGHT. Supposed to leave at 825 now scheduled 905 meaning I will miss a chance for a flight I was first on the standby list for. I now will have a 10 hour layover in Phoenix because it's the best they could get me after the flight delays/cancelations. I said good morning to the gate agent do you know why this flight is delayed? Crew rest. Ok cool can you see if there are any flights out of Phoenix to Reno since I will miss the 10 am one? NO. Delay after delay in the hot plane with the AC barely working is brutal. The amount of times I've flown AA and its aircraft has been delayed due to "fuel issues" or "mechanical issues" is ridiculous. I hate being one of those people but enough is enough. read more

I decided to fly American Airlines and had the worst experience. And this after having a minor surgery in Houston. First they cancelled my flight and it was the only flight going to Chicago. No explanation just cancelled. Next I had to call to rebook because they rebooked me on a flight that left the next day and had extremely long layover and my flight was direct. Not only that they only flight I could get that I had to find was a flight leaving the next day but there was a lay over in Dallas and no accommodations for a place to stay. The WORST airline. Do not fly if you want to have any kind customer service or kindness. They lost a customer good. I rather pay more at another airline. read more

I am visually impaired, and I had requested wheelchair at the gates of DFW and Houston and both times I was left waiting multiple times. I had requested it on the app as well as in person when I was boarding at Burbank. I'm very disappointed and I just feel pushed aside once I arrived at each of these destinations. The flight crew was very accommodating so there's no issues with that. It's just the communication I guess from the app to the life person that I spoke to at Burbank, putting it into the computer requesting a wheelchair and then arriving at these two locations and waiting. read more

After being BLOWN AWAY by Delta (5-star) on our trip from IAH to ROC, we had American Airlines on our return trip (2-star). My main "put off" was the old, dirty, worn, "ridden hard and put away wet" planes that we had... especially he ROC to CLT flight. I used the restroom and couldn't believe how gross it was. Parts of the trim were peeling off, just looked overly used and icky. American's planes were like night and day from the crisp, new and flashy Delta planes we had on our flights to Rochester. Then there's the technology or lack there of. Delta had fancy touch screens in each headrest allowing you to watch movies, play games, etc. American Airlines did have free entertainment that you had to access through your phone/tablet but there was an issue with trying to get it. On our last flight, the guy sitting next to me helped me get to the entertainment but after that, HE kept getting kicked off his. He kept trying the entire flight and got so frustrated, he quit trying. (I felt bad bc he helped me and I was able to watch a movie and there he was, struggling the whole time.) I got kicked off once but was able to get back on but it was still annoying. Never had issues with Delta. AA had fold out phone/tablet holders and usb charging ports on our second flight. Meh. No refreshments. Wow. I know airlines are getting stingier and stingier but holy moly! When waiting at the gate in Rochester, the gate attendant states over the loud speaker that they will not be serving any snacks/drinks on the flight and that if you wanted something, you needed to get it in the terminal to bring on the plane!! Whoa! The second flight did offer pretzels and a drink but honestly it was super off-putting to not offer anything on that first flight. I wasn't able to get e-tickets to have on my phone so we didn't have to worry about paper tickets. When I checked myself and my 4 year-old in the day prior, it offered digital tickets if you put in your email. So I put in my email for both me and my son... oh, they can't send them to the same email. So apparently, a 4 year-old needs their own email account to be able to get an e-ticket. SO STRANGE!!! Saw that there was an offer for airline credit in you give up your seat. Was tempting BUT I wasn't wanting to fly with them again anyways and we just wanted to get home. Flight attendants weren't overly friendly but they weren't terrible either. Checked bag cost us $30. All in all, American Airlines was completely different than our Delta experience. I won't seek out AA. We WILL be flying Delta again!! read more

Sep 2024 In order for you to understand this review, I'm just going to attach the letter that I wrote to the president of American Airlines, after many many futile attempts to get my problem solved through the customer service portal on AA.com. It's been about five days, and l've received no response from him. But that doesn't surprise me one iota. 5 December 2024 Dear Mr. Isom, I realize that this is an investor relations email address, however, I have exhausted all resources through your customer service portal to get my situation resolved. I actually had to go through the customer complaint process on your website three (or four?) different times before I even got anyone to acknowledge my situation. I am going to provide you with all of the emails that I had with your American Airlines customer service department so you can see why I am so frustrated. I still don't have the check that I was promised for the cost of the hotel for $233 and some change, and I was told that was sent nearly a month ago. To recap, I paid for my daughter and my son to come to their grandmother's funeral in California. The morning that my daughter was supposed to go home, her flight was delayed to the point that she was going to miss her connecting flight in Dallas to get home to Rochester, New York. Fortunately, we caught it in time in the morning before I dropped her off at the airport, and she didn't end up at the airport in Dallas with a seven month old baby trying to figure out how to get accommodations for the night and how to get a new ticket for the next day. She had to call in sick to work, and I had extra cost for lodging, transportation, and food for the extra day that she and my grandson had to spend in California. This was not weather related, and we were able to get her a ticket the next day over the phone, at least. However, it was very disrupting and caused a lot of extra cost and stress for both of us. will tell you that this is not the first time that this has happened to me, not just from American Airlines (But mostly from you because I usually always fly with you.), but all airlines in general. Flight delays, flight cancellations, lost luggage, delayed luggage, last-minute gate changes, sitting on the tarmac for up to an hour or longer, no internet, flight bookings where I have only 30 minutes to get from one terminal to the next, and l've actually fallen twice in airports, running to make my gate in time. It's absolutely insane (This is why I choose to drive as much as possible.). And of course, when I ask what the reason is, the people behind the desk will never tell me directly, but usually it has to do with not enough staff to operate the plane, or a malfunction that has to be addressed, or the plane has to be cleaned, or the prior flight arrived late, or paperwork has to be filed. I swear, it's like being held hostage! Anyway, I think you get the gist of my complaint, so l'm just going to close by leaving you with all the emails I had back-and-forth with the customer service department about the cost that my daughter and I incurred for the extra day that we had to stay after my mom's funeral. It's stressful enough traveling across the country to deal with something like a huge death in the family, or to just visit family or friends, and the transportation aspect of traveling should not add to your patrons' stress. These are not all of the emails that were sent back-and-forth because there have been too many, and they're probably out of order but hopefully you'll see that the reason people really hate flying is because of situations like this, and the fact that airlines will do nothing about them, but make excuses, even though the government has passed recent laws stating that airlines ARE responsible to some degree for ALL of this nonsense! The flight was delayed (this happens, no issue) but they finally board the plane. 1 hour later, no movement (said they were fueling the plane - this is supposed to be done before boarding). Another 1.5 hours later, they finally announce that there is another issue they were trying to fix. They could fix the issue. Made all get off the plane and did not provide accommodations. I've flown over 1.5 million miles on American. Most years I'm an executive member and I'm also a permanent gold member. Still, over the past several years, American has not assisted me when problems have arisen on their flights, or the flights of their travel partners. Most recently, I booked a business class flight on AA's partner Alaska Air and used my AA FF number when paying. Alaska made a mistake by not crediting my AA account (they didn't credit any other FF account of mine either). After spending time with Alaska seeking them to fix their error I was told AA needed to credit my account. I sent AA evidence of my paid ticket, of my boarding pass, etc. Still, AA has denied my request - twice. This along with having been denied upgrades over the past several years and no flexibility when switching flights due to delays leave me urging travelers to fly with Delta and/or United, both of which have treated me better when flying business class. They blew it this time. My flight from Houston to dfw was late by an hour which caused me to miss my connecting flight. The next flight out to my final destination is 8:45pm. 6 hour delay. I will probably never use American Airlines again. Beware if you have a tight connecting flight. You will more than likely miss if flying American. They run late. That's how they roll. Lesson learned. Give yourself at least two hours to connect. If not you will be stuck. The lady working the counter put me on a flight to New Orleans. There has been no communication from them and when Icall them I am on hold for 2 to 7 hours!! there is no direct line to call for baggage u have to call the line for anyone that is having an issue with their flight. After being on hold for hours you get transferred to baggage to be on hold for another few hours. I'm so disappointed today with this airlines. I went from delayed 65 minutes less than 45 minutes to boarding to straight turmoil (4 hours ). This was my first time flying American and they left such a horrible impression. With their airplanes having countless issues grounding them, to over booking flights, and terrible customer service I don't know how they are still around. I rarely rate 1 star so this is quite new for me, but people please beware of traveling via this airlines. What to expect: 1. They alter your original flight, creating longer flights 2. They create ridiculously long layovers 6-8 hours 3. Change gates frequently leading up to boarding 4. Their planes don't seem to be well maintained causing more delays 5. Barely assist you with changes due to air plane issues 6. You have to make a semi/big scene to be given compensation for their delays Plan an extra day of travel when using them, I lost almost 2 days of vacation because of airline issues that resulted in nonrefundable activities/dinners that were booked for up to 6 hours after I should have landed. Any where from delays, lost bags, etc. Their customer service is lacking as well. Compared to the other major airlines, they never seem to want to try to help solve a problem. Since American was 1 of 2 options to fly into Loreto, Baja California, we booked our flights 6 months ago. A month before our trip AA changed our itinerary which added a stop in DFW + cut our layover times!!! We had to hurry to make connection to PHX & Run to our Loreto flight I'm a handicapped 72 year old who was offered NO assistance Nor were any of the American Airline employees sympathetic nor did the offer ANY assistance Coming back the Loreto airport was total chaos as it is too small to handle multiple flights, no not Americans fault but waiting out in the heat to walk across there tarmac was brutal. I had heard the flight attendants at my gate make their announcement about closing the extender on suitcases. They had done this to my mom before and charged her for her carryon being "too big" even though it fit in the sizer. She ended up contacting the right people and got her money back because she knew that was not right. I found this extender request silly and it is definitely not a requirement. Plus, there is no reason for me to struggle in the airport, trying to close an extender that is hard to budge on my own in the middle of the airport. I had decided, it is not worth all that hassle and they can't tell me my personal item does not fit, because it does. I have traveled with it multiple times. I get to the part where I scan my boarding pass and the flight attendants told me "put it in the sizer!" Guest what? It fit. And she still said "close your extender." And I told her I had traveled with it hundreds of times. She told me "It doesn't matter. I had made the announcement multiple times to close the extender." She would not let me on that plane until I closed that extender. Maybe I'm being a Karen. Maybe it's cause it was 4:30 AM. Maybe it's because it already fit in the sizer? Maybe it is because I was on the floor wrangling this thing just to close that extender. I got it thankfully, but was it necessary? No. What if it did not close? I would have told her "if it fits, it fits!" Please be aware that flight attendants are asking this of people, but there are some suitcase designs that allow enough room WITH an extender. You pay for a service and expect said service to be fulfilled, but this was not the case. Before I begin, YOU as a consumer(customer) need to know YOUR RIGHTS or where to receive redress and in this case that would be my credit card company and the U.S. Department of Transportation. This happened about 10 mths ago and I will try and condense as much as possible...Full transparency, I booked a trip through Capital One Travel using travel miles and monies which they in turn, booked with American Airlines for a trip to St Lucia. The following information was provided to me first hand by many frustrated airline pilots and stewards/stewardess because if they do not fly (pull away from the gate), they do not get paid or reimbursed for travel from their home base. During this time there was an airline pilot Informational Strike due to unfair pay practices from the airline. The government provided airlines with funds due to losses from Covid-19 during this time frame American Airlines gladly took, but to increase a profit AA forced higher paid, Senior pilots to try and take a pay cut or retire; in addition, to try and make newer pilots take up the work load for fewer pay. This caused major delays and cancellations due to overworked pilots because they have to rest a minimum of 16 hours postflight for safety. I arrive on the day of my embarkation only to encounter a 2 hour delay, then 4 hour delay. Asked the gate agent what the issue was and they hesitantly inform me that the flight has a crew, but no pilots. I shook my head in disbelief and said, No, pilot, which she corrected her previous statement and clarified that only one pilot and crew was currently available and they were trying to have another pilot fly in. This did not happen, FLIGHT CANCELL.ED. I was told the airline was trying to rebook because multiple airlines were having issues also so I would have to come back the next day before 5 a.m. to ensure a flight out. Next day, I arrive at IAH around 4:30 a.m. and was second in line waiting on the desk to open. Desk opens, I explain the situation about the flight cancellation (You would think that day shift would get a brief on important events like this), received my ticket and wait at the gate. Plane taxis to gate and let passengers off and waiting on the plane to be cleaned. Next thing I know, plane powers down and crew exits the passenger walkway. I am thinking a new crew is about to swap planes, but 2 hr delay, 4 hour delay, cancellation. Get the announcement of cancellation, race to the terminal Customer Service Desk while on the phone trying to get through with American Airlines. Wait in line for about 30 min and 10 people ahead of me but by this time I get an agent of the phone. Explained the situation again and at this point I just want to be on the beach chilling. Best option is try and fly out of American Airlines flight Hub (Dallas) to MIA so they get me a flight that left in about 30 minutes so technically I had about 15 minutes before gates closed. Mad dash through the airport like OJ in a Hertz commercial, make the flight, land in Dallas delay to MIA. Delay DFW-MIA, missed the connection to St. Lucia with no other flights available for the next couple of days. At this point, I am like this is a sign so AA got me a flight back to IAH that night. I was informed to file a claim through AA website. Filed claim with all required documentation, received confirmation number and waited 48 hours. Checked on status of claim and CLAIMED NOT FOUND. Called AA and told them about the issue, was told to file another claim. Filed another claim, received confirmation number waited 2 weeks, checked online claim and CLAIM NOT FOUND. Called AA, transferred about 5 times before I was able to speak to a "so called manager" stating they would work the issue and had my information and notes from previous engagements. No action taken from AA so finally, I sent Certified, Return-Receipt correspondence to AA Disputes and informed them I was filing a grievance with the Department of Transportation for Failure to honor CONDITIONS OF CARRIAGE and sent the same correspondence to my credit card company to dispute as fraud because payment was made and services was not delivered. My credit card company fought on my behalf and they received my money and reinstated my travel miles to my account. Just so happen a week later I received a letter from AA stating that due to "Weather" my flight was cancelled and I would be refunded my travel miles and money paid towards ticket, but I would not be receiving compensation for the delays and cancellations. If they would have fessed up and said, "Hey, our fault and we need to do better', I would have been OKish, but they elected to misrepresent the events. Think of people who did not fight and get their money back. Hypothetically, half do not receive their money, roughly $177,167.79 is pocketed by AA and that is ONE flight! read more

Not only was she professional, but she greeted us with a smile, and worked extremely closely with United Airlines to get us a straight flight from Houston to Hawaii. This is AA airlines. The only plus side to it I can think of is that they have AA advantage points. And they do fly out quite frequent so u end up getting tickets or a flight that works on your own schedule with them. Other than that service is hit and miss. I mean its ok. I was flying out of hobby airport at 6:25pm got a notification that my flight had been cancelled and I was now to got to Bush for a 8 pm flight.. American contacts me via email to let me know that they can return if I pay 30.00 for fed ex Hello, it's only 11.00 to replace my Texas license. Common curtesy would be dropping it in a USPS mailbox so they can return but no!!!! My flight from Houston to Dallas was late. I had to take a 3 hour later flight to a diff destination because I was not going to make my connecting flight. However on the way home, we waited on the plane for an hour while we waited so others could make their connecting flight. What the hell! If I could leave a review with less than one star that is what I would be given. I don't normally right reviews but my flight from DFW to IAH was the worst experience I have had with an airline company period. I tend to fly Southwest due to the two free bags but my boyfriend had planned out the PERFECT birthday cruise which started with two first class tickets to Houston on American Airlines. We were originally scheduled to leave at 10am yesterday morning that flight got cancelled and we were moved to 7am. It was earlier then we planned but whatever we were too ex it's not to move frwd. We get to the airplane everyone boards and we had out to get the plane treated for ice. After over an hour the plane has been treated but a mechanical error has popped up. We return to the gate? Deplane and are told our new plane is ready to go. Everyone boards the plane and we are told we are now last in line to have the plane treated for ice and no one knows when we will head back out. After multiple flight delay messages and conversations we are told will Have to exit the plane again. At this point it's around 10 am. I politely asked the flight attendees/co-polite if we can please just get our bags so we can make the drive to Houston and still make our boat. I was told because they were delaying the flight and not cancelling it that this wouldn't be an option. They continued to delay the flight another hour and a half before allowing us to re-board. Once back on the plane we are told we can head out for the ice treatment but we still have no clue what place in line we are. As we think we are heading back out we're told we need more fuel so we have to wait just a few minutes to get topped off. That few minutes turns to 45. At this point I'm 95% sure we will be missing our boat... but regardless we have to stay in the plane because our luggage is going to IAH with or without us. When we finally leave it's well after 1pm. We got into Houston at 2:20ish and our boat was leaving from Galveston at 4 with a 3:30 hard door close. They took 20 more minutes to unload my baggage even though it wAs marked first class priority!!! Needless to say after a $220 cab ride to attempt to make the boat my boyfriend and I were in Galveston watching our boat sail away. Another $100 Uber ride later we were in Houston with no room, car or plan. Around 4pm I called customer relations and reservations for a call back due to an overload in calls. That call was suppose to come within the next 4 hours (8:30pm) at the latest. I was just woke up out of my sleep at 4:30am by a reservation representative that could cancel my flight with no promise of a refund but could help in no other way. I was told to try back customer relations at 8 am when they open. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and I'm disgusted with how this entire process was handle by American Airlines. They have been the primary airlines we use for travel at the company I work for and when I return to our executive meetings next week I'll be STRONGLY suggesting that we reconsider who we do business with. read more

I used American Airlines 2378 from Houston to Dallas.It was Okay on time.No delay and terrible services.However,People may use " high Speed rail" between Houston and Dallas. What is pros and cons of high speed rail. Pros - It is safer than aircraft.There are a few accidents of high speed rail in Japan. - It is more comfortable.I don't like turbulence air, - The seat is bigger.We can stretch of our legs in the high speed train. Cons. - The construction costs are high. - It is hard to buy land. If i have an option of the high speed rail, I may use it instead of aircraft. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. AA is the most incompetent airlines I've ever had to deal with. I booked flights four months in advance to Houston from LAX, both flights there and back were direct flights. Got a decent price for them, should have known it was going to be an issue because of the price, "You get what you pay for." So I get an email on July 7th, 2019 saying that both my flights have been changed. My flight there was a changed to a later departed and arrival time than what was originally booked, which was inconvenient because I had some things planned for when I arrived in Houston. Now that my arrival time was later, I was landing at 11pm and having to pick up my car and go to my hotel, it was almost 1am. So my first day was ruined because they decided to randomly change my flight. But I didn't think much of it and just went along with it, because what am I supposed to do? The real problem was the departure flight back home to California. It was a literally nightmare. Our flight departure time was 1:48pm. Got to the airport around 12pm to go through TSA and be ready on time to board. When we got there and sat down waiting, they delayed our flight. No problem, things happen sometimes, but then they delayed my flight once more, again, I was okay with it because maybe this would be the last delay then we would finally get on a plane and take off...but no, they cancelled it. They cancelled my direct flight home from Houston to LAX. I had to go over to the booking counter to rebook my flight which was a total zoo because there were about 20 people ahead of me. I rebooked my flight and was able to get on a flight that afternoon but with a connection in Dallas. The airplane arrives for the flight to Dallas. Me and all the passengers make our way onto the plane. We sit on the plane for about and hour and a half. The pilot speaks onto the intercom two times stating that we can't take off because he's waiting for a log book. We sit on the plane for almost TWO HOURS. Finally, they deplane us. They now say that the plane we are on is going to take off at 8:00pm. So I wait. 8pm comes around and they change the take off time to 10pm!!! At this point, it's 8pm and we've been at the airport since 12pm. I'm tired and I have work the next day which I had to call in and miss because the incompetence of American Airlines. Because this plane didn't take off, I missed my connecting flight in Dallas to LAX. At this point, I just decided to ask American Airlines to comp us a hotel and start all over again the next day. They compensated our hotel and rebooked our flights. They were nice enough to do that but the kicker is...two couples who were in the exact same situation we were in regarding the direct flight being cancelled and being rebooked on the flight where we sat there for two hours, they didn't get their hotel compensated. American wouldn't compensate their hotel. Why would they do that for us and not for them if they were in the exact situation? I felt so bad for them. The agents for American kept making excuse after excuse as to why they wouldn't compensate them a hotel. It was absolutely ridiculous. So, the next day we started over. We had our flights booked. When I get to the airport, my flight is DELAYED AGAIN, to the point where I was going to miss my connecting flight in Dallas, this is the next day! I had to go to the agents AGAIN to have them put me on an earlier flight so I wouldn't miss my connecting flight in Dallas. And you guessed it...that flight too was delayed. It was a literal nightmare. Even though it was delayed, I was still able to make my connecting flight in Dallas. Finally made it to Dallas and you guessed it, that flight was delayed as well. Only it wasn't that stressful because it was just the flight back home so I didn't have to make any connecting flights. When I get to baggage claim at LAX, I get a text saying that 1 of my 2 checked bags is delayed. We only checked one bag at the gate because they wouldn't allow our bag in the overhead compartment because the flight was full and they didn't have any room. The bag then arrives at baggage claim. How do you mess that up? On top of it all, the flight attendants aren't that nice...they are just okay. This is definitely a failing airlines that I don't see being in business much longer. If they can't even keep from having that amount of delays and mishaps, how can't they stay in business? I will never ever fly AA ever again. I learned my lesson with this one. I will tell everyone I know to never fly American. I am done. I'm flying Delta or Southwest from now on. I rather pay more and know my flights are going to be on time. I see why people dislike American Airlines. Poor quality fleet. Service sucks. They give you a super hard time if your bags aren't the right size or a pound over weight. Now for flight timeliness, I took a one-way flight from Houston to Philadelphia. A rip off of a fare. I now sit at the gate still waiting to pull back. This plane had been here for hours and when it was boarding time, it was too hot inside and had to get cooled. I've never experienced such a thing. A 255p departure is now approaching 4p. Flight 2311. I'd say skip American Airlines. Oh wow, as I write this, I believe they just announced they have a flat tire. On my return to Houston, I am taking Frontier. Let's see... read more
