Cool bar, but restaurant is only ok...here's why!!! We came here for a post labor day dinner because we like to avoid crowds. The beech hotel has a really cool lounge. A tree growing in the middle becomes the top shelf for expensive liquors! They have very refreshing cocktails, like I had the Return of the Mac. The tequila and fresh watermelon was delicious. The dining room was very cute, gives Key West vibes. The menu looks great. Food was pretty good. The latkas were my favorite, cream fraiche and apple puree were perfect accompaniment. The mains were ok. Like the pasta needed way more salt and the scallops were cold. The doughnuts were a little crumbly, like stale. But I really enjoyed the bar and the apps. This review is foe the restaurant which has a great atmosphere for a night out. It's a young and trendy aesthetic, with dim lighting and lush palms everywhere. The food and even the cocktails are seasonal. I couldn't put down the People Pleaser drink, which is made with snap peas. Four stars because everything was just a TOUCH under seasoned. Lets hit the Beech! We're getting together with old friends for brunch. They're rattling off things like, wine tasting, buying farm stand vegetables and shopping. Oh yeah, and make the weather nice on Sunday so we can walk around Greenport. Yes dear. I had American Beech bookmarked after a nice Yelp ROTD. I went online and researched the restaurant, the decor looked really fun and the menu looked contemporary. Pulling up to the restaurant, it's located in a cul-de-sac of some great looking dining establishments. Everyone always associates Greenport with the restaurant on the water. Me? I'd like to have an upscale meal with the water a block away thankyouverymuch. Walking towards the main entrance, there is an outdoor bar that looks very fun. Too bad it wasn't functional this Sunday morning. Walking inside feels like you've stepped into restaurant designed Ralph Lauren. The decor is stunning with light woods and nautical theme throughout. We're seated at a four top, the ladies are sitting on a comfy bench. We look at the $15 cocktail menu and the drinks are placed. I started with a watermelon cocktail called the Garden Party Cocktail. Made with fresh cut watermelon, it was very refreshing. For starters, we ordered for the table a plate of spaghetti squash latkes and a order of shrimp toast. The latkes starter with sour cream was yummy. The shrimp toast? It's everything you remember ordering as a kid in a Chinese food restaurant. A very fun dish. The menu choices looks really brunchy. I don't remember seeing Eggs Benedict which is a Hampton brunch staple but I keep telling myself we're on the north fork. There is corned beef hash dish on the menu but I'm going to pass this time and order the Shrimp & Grits. Holy moley! The portion wasn't large but in fact the right amount. The shrimp tasted so fresh, I had to check and make sure I wasn't eating lobster. Combined with the buttery grits and bacon crumble, it was a very enjoyable meal. Okay you have to eat here. The ambiance is cool, staff is pleasant and the food is amazing. You have to try the snap pea appetizer - it's light and refreshing and soooo different! I could eat that dish every night. We also had the burrata which was fine, a little salty, but didn't hold a candle to the snap peas unfortunately. My whole party got lobster rolls with some salty fries - unbelievable. The lobster salad is light and lemony and so so good. Highly suggest this place. read more

Not great.... First impression walking up we really dug the vibe, we sat down on a nice summer day, looked at the menu and ordered at the bar. I got the mule and it came to me literally half full, Maybe less. The watermelon something was full and refreshing. We moved on to a few small plates and not a single one blew us away... Though they did make me want to walk away a little bit. The pork belly was awful and only once have I had worse. If a place doesn't know how to treat and serve pork belly there is no place for it on their menu. The truffle-parm fingerlings were good but there was really nothing to them, slightly less flavor than you'd get anywhere else but decent just the same. The best of the three apps we had was the orchiette which isn't saying much. It was a clear and tasty winner but I can cook as good, if not better at home so we weren't too impressed by any of it. We couldn't stand the noise so we had to leave. Our bed was vibrating from the music in the bar below, which closes at 1:30a. This place is a nightmare because you can lock yourself out of the room and there's no one working at the hotel past 8PM. It's really gone downhill since the last time we were there a few years ago. I couldn't reach anyone on the phone the next day so I left a voicemail and haven't heard back. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Extremely overrated. To give context the place is trendy but severely understaffed. It has a cool looking atmosphere and is right in the center of Greenport. Great location and the hotel was nice but not worth the price. I would say it's a trendy looking spot to take photos and that's about it. Now the service on the other hand was absolutely horrible. My friends and I went by for some drinks and an app and waited over an hour just to get drinks. First we waited at the host stand wondering where the host was by this time quite a few people where waiting and wondering the same too. The host arrived and basically had no idea who was here first.. bad sign number one. We got seated and waited over 20 minutes to be greeted by the server. He took our order and never showed up again. Then another server came who took our order again and then after another twenty minutes came back to take our same order again!. Waited again for our drinks to arrive only to get half of the drinks. Everyone else around us sitting in the section actually left because the service was so slow it was virtually nonexistent. By this time we waited an hour for two drinks and still missing two more. We asked for the manager and he was by far the worst. He would apologize but rationalize the bad service because we were "rude". Mind you there was no one around to be rude with. That was the whole problem! I was shocked and almost amused at how bad the manager handled the situation. He did como our drinks which I would have gladly paid for but at the end It was just a horrible experience. Overall, it's a cool trendy spot. But very slow nonexistent service. I had the most amazing evening at American Beech! It's SO cozy inside. Everything is white and full of plants and twinkly lights. There is a big outdoor seating area and bar as well as a large indoor seating and bar area. We started with a drink and app at the bar while we waited for our table. Bar tender was super friendly and gave some great suggestions. For dinner they sat us outside which was lovely but we really wanted to sit by the cozy spot by the indoor fireplace and the hostess kept an eye on that spot and really sweetly accommodated our request. For food we loved the squash latkes and the mushroom curry bowl! It was a very eclectic menu but everything we had was very tasty and fresh! You could tell all of the food is carefully found and prepared. I would love to come back here and spend a night at the hotel this time! read more

Came here for a rehearsal dinner and everything was perfect! Every table got a little bit of every dish, from appetizers to desserts, and everything was delicious. The waiters and waitresses were great and were always walking around to make sure no one had an empty drink and to clear any empty plates and dishes. The atmosphere was perfect as well--we were in the back of the restaurant, which was perfect for a rehearsal dinner. If I ever came back to Greenport, I would return to this place and I recommend coming here. Also, if you do come here, I recommend the sweet potato latkes (which were one of my faves) and the carrot cake, which is to die for...the best carrot cake that I've ever had. I've been to American Beech multiple times for dinner, most recently this past weekend while hosting another couple from NYC visiting the Northfork for the first time. We've run into issues with the food quality and/or service since the restaurant opened in 2015, but were hopeful things improved. The prices are comparable to a trendy NYC restaurant but the food quality, level of service and portion sizes don't consistently measure up. Overall our waitress was very friendly, attentive, and did her best to resolve what has clearly been a reoccuring problem with the kitchen/management. The cocktails are pretty decent (~$14 each) and they have a pretty nice selection of wine. For our party of 4, we placed 2 orders of the Crescent Farm Duck Wings, which were delicious but the portion was pretty small (5 small wings) and the Tuna Crudo which was very fresh. For entrees, we ordered the Seared Sea Scallops, Buttermilk Fried 1/2 Chicken (both which were great & we'd highly recommend), and two Grilled Skirt Steaks. The waitress didn't ask but reiterated how the steak would be prepared, which luckily they were both fine with. Generally, it's not customary to assume vs. ask someone how they'd like their steak prepared. We wouldn't have thought much of it, until the two skirt steak entrees came out, one of which was too cold to eat,(as if it'd be sitting out for hours), and the other barely lukewarm yet served on a very warm plate. We kindly asked the runner to send back the 1 very cold entree to be warmed up and served hot. Less than a minute later, another runner returned with a different steak that was also clearly sitting out and barely lukewarm. Our waitress finally checked in 10minutes after my friend received her 2nd cold entree, and did make a sincere effort to sufficiently help resolve the issue with the help of management. Overall we left happy and had a great time, so the 3 star review is with consideration they addressed the issue appropriately after the fact. However, I'm still sharing my feedback with hope if and when we return here for dinner this summer our experience drastically improves. It's pretty clear the restaurant premakes the grilled skirt steak entree (hence the limited flexibility in prepartion) and our waitress explained it was unacceptable and should've never happend but unfortunately an issue with later dinner reservations. Although the servers have been friendly they are generally very young and inexperienced, which I believe is part of the problem. My feedback, which is consistent with other Northfork weekenders I've spoken with, is if American Beech is going to continue to charge fine dining prices comparable to Manhattan, the level and expertise of the service, quality of food, and overall experience needs to start reflecting the upcharge. read more

In addition to indoor dining in their trendy restaurant, they had a great outdoor setup, with both a patio area and individual pod seating. We chose one of the pods, which was cozy and fun. Ok, let's start with this: there are MANY great dining options in Greenport and American Beech is one of them. But be prepared to overspend and be underwhelmed by the quality and size of the plates. Tucked away on a side street in Greenport is a hot spot that is worth the wait. We had a reservation on a busy summer Saturday night and were seated promptly on arrival. Despite the age of the servers (lots of kids working for the season), the food and drink service was spot on. The uniformed servers and busboys (patterned shorts and floral tops) really gave this place a cool south beach vibe. The menu has so many appealing items for eaters of all types. We ordered a few cocktails and beers to start. The drinks were refreshing and balanced and surprisingly not sweet. Just perfect. We opted to forego appetizers and go straight to entrees. The burgers looked amazing and the guys devoured them-along with the fixins! They're served on giant gorgeous pretzel buns. Two of us had the shrimp curry bowl which was a big hit. The scallops looked beautiful and my watermelon lump crab gazpacho was the perfect consistency. Super tasty. The sides of Brussel sprouts and Swiss chard were a home run. We shared the blueberry short cake dessert which was a giant flaky biscuit with loads of whipped cream and local berries. Very delicious. Hard to find a negative thing to say about this happening trendy place. When we left, a giant party of 35 young women came in for a bachelorette party. Seems to be popular for diners both young and old. My sense is that between here and the frisky oyster, this is as close to cool NYC feel as you'll find on the NOFO. One of the few restaurants in the area that serves late night food. I highly recommend the burger, tuna tartare and frose. Service was really warm and lovely! So happy we decided to come. read more

American Beech, this restaurant has a very bright and open atmosphere inside and out. I was there for happy hour on an early Thursday evening. A nice glass of Oban 14 year was accompanied by a much appreciated large single ice cube which is more difficult to find than one would think. $1 oysters were part of the happy special, a little on the small side but that's probably why they're on special. For dinner I ordered the rib eye steak which was cooked to a perfect medium- rare and had great flavor. Footnote: the dish also came with a side of garlic fries. I'm actually in this restaurant right now and wasn't a pleasant start of the day. We had first reservations at 12:00 arrived 8 minutes early and were told seat you in 8 minutes. The gnocchi flavors were excellent but texture was way to soft for any Italian. Keep those Al dente and that dish would be perfect. Manager was pleasant and apologize for the mishap with hostess. The place is beautiful , but hostess should have the smarts to know what you don't do before someone coming in to enjoy your restaurant. My wife and I stayed here recently to celebrate our anniversary (and Phase 2 reopening during the Corona Virus Pandemic). It was outstanding! The rooms were clean, comfortable and relatively inexpensive compared to others in the village. We did not eat in the restaurant but took full advantage of the hotel's close proximity to downtown Greenport (shopping and waterfront restaurants are all within a 3-minute walk). Upon our return in the evening, we were offered a complimentary glass of wine and thoroughly enjoyed it in the outdoor lounge. The next morning we were pleasantly surprised again to find a picnic breakfast basket at our door full of hot coffee, juice, bagels and fruit. After dining here well over a year ago on multiple occasions and recommending this restaurant to many people I am embarrassed to recommend them any longer.. We were treated horribly.. We sat outside in the courtyard to have drinks and appetizers as mandated by Cuomo, drinks alone can not be served without food..We ordered 2 rounds of drinks and various appetizers.. In the couryard of this hotel there are several other restaurants, the lines are blurred which restaurants are affiliated with AB.. A member of our party wanted to order the brick oven pizza at the place right in the courtyard, we had seen several people with the pizza boxes and honestly it smelled delicious.. We ordered and brought the box back over to where we were lounging along with our drinks/appetizers. Within 2.5 seconds of us all(4 of us in the group) taking a bite out of the pizza, our waiter flew over on his broomstick and issued us a warning that we were not allowed to consume the pizza.. to which we responded with pizza hanging out of our mouths(literally mid bite) "Ok, we are sorry we didn't know" We finish the slices we all had in our hands and left the box untouched which had additional slices.. along with another box of stuffed peppers.. We then asked if we could order another round of drinks to which our rude waiter said, "No" we were shocked! We then asked for the manager, we had no problem not eating the pizza after the rude waiter told us we couldn't the issue was presentation when we asked to order another round!! Our tab was close to $200 and we could not understand why he(rude waiter) had told us no..We were respectful and abiding by the rules.. When we asked for the manager , 2 managers walked over and we explained what happened and their initial response was, "he is one of our best servers" Yikes if he is their best that says alot and sets their bar very low in terms of their staff expectations..he was rude and probably should find a different profession where he doesn't have to interact with people. Restaurants are in the customer service business in fact I have worked in many restaurants back in the day , We were all appalled at the lack of caring from the managers, although they did apologize on behalf of rude waiter, it should have been the FIRST thing to come out of their mouths, not the last.. We paid our bill left a small tip to reflect the awful treatment and went on our way. That should have been the end of this however I shared a picture to my social media with the drinks in hand and a caption that said, "awful waiter, nice ambiance I feel a yelp review coming".. I tagged AB as I had done previously in my stories and posts..Well what I got was shocking! I will include the screenshots. Whoever runs their social media basically said that they did NOT care about the opinions of their customers and how we were told multiple times to stop eating pizza , shocking because we were told once and that was it and then refused another round by rude waiter.. This establishment is one I would never patronize again and it is sad because their food is good HOWEVER one has MANY choices of where to dine out and service means EVERYTHING and the handling of this situation and the rude uncalled messages on DM appalling.. I never read any reviews on AB until I decided to write my experience so others could learn and stay away, however apparently poor service is their mantra because there are endless negative reviews all relating to their customer service and poor treatment of their patrons.. While vacationing in Mattituck I happened to come across this restaurant online. I was hesitant because of the reviews, but the atmosphere looked so cute and beachy that I knew I needed to try it out. From what I understand; there's a new Chef/manager/I'm not really sure but it was great. We made a reservation to be on the safe side and they were accommodating when we requested to sit outside instead of inside. Our waiter came over right away and asked what we wanted to drink before we had even sat down so we asked him to come back, and 45 seconds later he was back so we asked for another minute to look at the menu. After that we didn't see much of him and weren't checked on during the meal. Luckily, it was great and we had no problem. To eat we had the lobster roll and the burger. The burger was so good and had the best flavor. The lobster roll was slightly dry and a red color that looked fake, but it tasted great nonetheless. Small menus done right. I read some comments about staffing problems. We thought our sever was on point. But they are a new restaurant and I hope they work out the kinks others mentioned because the FOOD WAS AMAZING. To start off make sure you get the Kale and Quinoa salad it makes eating heathy taste O-so-good. The Pomme Chips with Herb Crème Fraiche so simple and good. For an entree I had the Orecchiette with Wild Mushrooms, Spinach, Roasted Garlic Mascarpone and Toasted Crumbs DELICIOUS! You need to order this 5 star dish. My husband had the tuna steak which he loved but once he had a taste of my Orecchiette he was hooked on my dish. The lady next to us was raving about her Black Bass entree. Guess we'll try that next time. The Key Lime Pie is homemade. Better then most places in the Keys. My husband loved the homemade brownie with chocolate moose. We are look forward to making the trip out to Greenport to dine here again I'm actually craving the Kale salad now read more

He was too busy selecting a Netflix movie at the bar to answer a simple question - the expected ETA of the cab. After the bartender finally got his attention, Dennis stormed out the side entrance, yelling "it's on it's way". Totally unprofessional. We watched him drive off. Our waitress saw the whole thing and came out to apologize. Dennis, you ruined our evening with your insulting and demeaning behavior and abject customer service. Never returning and suggest skipping this place if you'd like to get home at the end of the evening. After waiting outside for over twenty minutes, another staff came out to ask if a cab had come yet. No one could confirm if one had even been called, but the staff manager offered us a ride. Very nice of her. Apparently Dennis was having a bad night, as lots of things had gone wrong. Dennis - it doesn't matter how many things go wrong. After visiting this location when I was celebrating my close friends 40th I decided to bring my family back. We made a point to stop in early and made a reservation for 4 with two high chairs. As we have 2.5 year old twins. We were told that they had no problem accommodating us either inside or outside. When we arrived they had no air on inside. I asked if we could sit outside and they said sure pick any table. We then proceeded outside. I chose a table with my family and the host approached me and told me they were full and couldn't accommodate us. I explained we had a reservation. He said sorry no I said we were told we could sit in or out and he again said nope we are booked. Which was not the case. I then asked if they could turn on the Ac. And he said No! We left. What a gem! Greenport is one of the towns that has captured my heart 2 years ago, and ever since I have been frequenting it more and more. Better than Sag Harbor or any other town. AMerican Beech only opened in 2015, so it's a newer restaurant on the block. It is a needed addition. It is located on Main St. and nestled in the back, off it. They have kind of a similar restaurant, that is hip and cool, on Front St. called The Frisky Oyster. The American Beech is more relaxed, very laid back. With its nautical decor, outside fireplace, and candlelit dining area, it feels like a spa. However, it provides you with some amazing food to nourish your stomach, besides your other senses. Our first time here, we had: - Duck Bastilla: it was one big epanada look a like. But with a kick of amazing flavor and sauce. - Roasted Mussels: the best mussels I've had in a long time. Flavor was so subtle, and creamy, buttery but not heavy at all. - Shrimp Curry Bowl: it is indeed to die for. Such aroma and flavor. I loved the sweetness of the dish, and the addition of ridiculous subtle spice from a side sauce. - Black Bass: WOW! Fish was seared on skin side to perfection and amazing crispiness. It was cooked perfectly! It is now m favorite fish to eat besides red snapper. All in all, their sauces are amazing and give each dish another flavor, while keeping the balance. The menu, while looks small, is very balanced and perfect! I cannot wait to try the rest of it. The food is perfectly presented and cooked. The bartender is just so cool...his name is Colin. Horrible experience at the American Beech Hotel. My wife and I decided to take a night away from the kids for a birthday celebration. We made a reservation for the hotel and attached restaurant. When we checked in the staff at the front desk explained to us that they gave our reserved room away (you reserve the actual room number during booking. Each room is set up differently like a b&b ). You have us a different smaller room that was much louder, but charged us the same price. Asked manager to call us but he never did. Then... we go to the restaurant for our reservation at 7PM. Yet, no one was there. No one . The entire restaurant was empty. We waited 30 mins for someone to show up. Nothing. Just a couple of guys in the kitchen, but no servers, no waitstaff, no host. This is a great little spot, we went last night with a large party. Great ambience and great service. We arrived around 6pm and there were roughly 14 of us. We started with appetizers like the salads, chips, brussel sprouts and a pasta dish. Let me just say all of these were very good. We all tasted a bit of everything. Nothing was a game changer but all were very good. I ordered the burger with mushrooms, onion on a pretzel bun. Wow! This was a great burger, cooked to perfection. I also loved the pretzel bun, it gave a chewiness that I loved. The downfall would be no fries, who doesn't have fries with a burger? The house made chips were okay. As I said with a large party the service was very good. All in all we were happy with this place. It was priced fairly as well. Roughly came to $1400.00 including tip and drinks. Came with a small group for dinner on a Saturday night. Great ambiance and atmosphere in the restaurant. Started off with some cocktails, the dirty martinis were made well, great balance of vodka and olive. The watermelon cocktail was light and refreshing. For appetizers we started out with the Orecchiette, Spaghetti Squash Latkes and Frito Misto. All three were phenomenal with the orecchiette being the stand-out of the three. Entrees featured tuna, bass and fried chicken. The tuna was cooked perfectly however it was under seasoned, the bass and chicken were both very flavorful and cooked well. The big miss was with our second round of cocktails. Two of us ordered the margarita and it was nothing more than pineapple juice and tequila. It was quite undrinkable and we sent it back. They did not charge us for those drinks, which was great. Overall, a very enjoyable meal with good food, would certainly come back. read more

Great place to brunch outdoors! Love the interior and overall vibe of this place. Highlights of the meal included the Cobb salad, Brussel sprouts, potato leek soup, truffle potatoes, burger and latke- all so delicious!!! We could've done without the grits- too runny and the seasonal omelet- the vegetables and pork did not compliment each other and was not pleasant to eat. We also ordered the fried chicken which came with a side of hot sauce. Their house hot sauce is SO SO GOOD. It's a cross between sweet and sour sauce and spicy Thai chili. Sat us right by the door, asked the hostess to switch our table, but unfortunately they could not move us. We were getting up to close the front door all night in order to keep the cold air out(30 degrees outside). Staff was no help making sure other customers kept the door closed. Absolutely smitten with the crew over at American Beech! After having several tasty dinners and lunches here, I knew this was one of my favorite spots to visit. The atmosphere is just unparalleled. I was lucky enough to have my bridal shower here this past weekend, and the consensus was that everyone was utterly blown away by the food, decor and service. Such a special place! A true crown jewel of a spot. Can't thank the staff here enough for their incredible hard work, flexibility, communication, and accommodations for special diets as well. Come for the ambiance. (Great lighting- tropical feel inside). You should make reservations- place tends to get crowded (as can the 1943 pizza place next door). This area of Greenport seems to be a bit of a scene due to the location of the hotel right next door. You'll see what I mean. Drinks were good- I had the watermelon tequila cocktail. My wife had a good red Cabernet Sauvignon. We started with the Mac and cheese (held the crawfish) which had a nice crunch top but was nothing special. We also had the cauliflower curry with shrimp and the sea scallops. Both were satisfactory! Servers seemed a bit rushed. read more
