Tried this restaurant a couple weeks ago. Had the burger. While good, it wasn't something I'd remember down the line as a place to go back for their burger for. Overall, this place is a good place to go and eat, but it isn't on my list of places to look forward to coming back to. If I was with someone that wanted to go, I wouldn't try to suggest another place, but it wouldn't be my suggested place for a meal. First time at American Grub last night; what a great place! We sat outside with our goldendoodle by the heater and had a great dinner. Keith gave us phenomenal service and the food was fantastic. Great beer selection on tap (I had offshore hazy IPA), unreal burgers, great wings, and real good sweet potato fries. I've visited this spot three times now and it's definitely a local favorite. Everything I had from the AG Veggie sandwich and turkey burger to the smoked salmon salad were really very good. The personable service is consistent and the casual ambiance is a good place to visit with family or friends. Not worth the hype. Not going back here again. Food was lacking flavor. Maybe I expected more from a $15 burger. Patty was thin and dry. It was just not flavorful. It was a chore eating just half the burger. Parking was difficult and limited. Lastly, the owner or manager lady was passing out brownie bites as sample to everyone else and for some reason skipped just my table. I left feeling discriminated and disappointed. It did my civic obligation as a resident of Tustin to try the American Grub. What a mistake in judgement I made. The only thing that was acceptable is the decor. I had the patty melt for $12 by itself ridiculous at least at other places the fries would come with it ( it had 2 regular burger patties as the patty- very disappointing, bread drenched in butter and overall grease. My friend had the BLT for $8 by itself. Again bread drenched in butter, only 3 unfavorable bacon strips, tomato, lettuce. All he could taste is oil artificial at that. They do not post the prices on the menu board. So it cost me $31.80 for patty melt, BLT, 1 fry and 2 lemonades. To me way over priced and the attitude of the woman at the counter- was like a bar tender being a smart ass- why? I ask why the prices are not posted and she barked .....the prices are in the menu. I will not return as the AG is over priced and subpar in quality at best. I should of had a Vietnamese foot long baguette sandwich for $3.60 at the THH on Newport Ave that is always delicious and more satisfying then that grease patty melt. read more

Went for lunch today and with the reviews, I expected more. Nothing wrong with the food. It was all pretty good but nothing special. We are so happy that American Grub has opened in Old Towne. Our family loves coming here (it is close to our gym - go figure). The atmosphere is good. We have always had great service and food. They always have a great beer selection. I personally like to take advantage of the flight so that I can taste a little bit of everything. Hubands favorite is the Wyatt Earp burger, I love the wings, protein plate and salads, the kids love the sliders and the mac and cheese. The garlic fries and fried green beans are a must. Have recommended this place to our friends and they have recommended to their friends. Can't wait to come back! read more

Frustrating visit to American Grub for me this afternoon. I stopped in to place a "to go" order. It was a simple order - 2 burgers and 3 total sides. My order was ready quickly. Got home - began opening the items and virtually everything was wrong. Added, what I did receive was significantly over cooked - dry, exceedingly well done, crunchy meet is not a tasty treat... If a burger place that is not busy cannot correctly fill a 2 burger order and what I did receive was so over cooked, I question why I would ever return. Perhaps that's why it was not busy at a prime Saturday time (perhaps a clue). These types of restaurants are all over and most of them do a pretty good job. My visit today was just a mess and a driver for me to not darken the American Grub Tustin again. Lastly, I did call and let the restaurant know that what I received was so wrong and badly prepared. They offered to replace my order. I did not accept their offer. I placed a "to go" order because I needed "to go" - returning to have my order remade was time I did not have nor a continued investment in a simple meal I was going to make. I went here on Sunday and the waiters working were very sweet, attentive and just had a good attitude. The only thing that threw me off was the set up. Seems like a non full service deli/ burger joint you order at the counter but they might have just recently tried converting it to a full service place becuase the waiters got to us before we could even get to the front. I thought it was odd but not a big deal. Atmosphere was lovely. Food was great. I had a veggie burger you could tell was home made and i loved that. I went to this place expecting great sandwiches all I got was a crappy grilled cheese sandwich with oily Kraft fake cheese. I ordered the bacon tomato grilled cheese and it was awful. The cheese was of poor quality, no milk just oily additives in the cheese(Kraft cheese). I also ordered the potato salad it was bland and the potato tasted grainy not fresh at all! This place was built up to be great bye friends, so was hoping it would live up to the hype. A really nice addition to Old Town Tustin (thank you American Grub)! I've had dinner here three times so far and tried something different each time (chicken wrap, pastrami & hamburger). Everything has been really tasty! The quality of the food is very good and presented nicely. Staff is always welcoming, friendly & helpful! I love the casual atmosphere and especially the outdoor seating (where you can people watch). I'll continue to take my friends/family here for a beer and a bite to eat. read more

First time was amazing, second time it bombed!!! Initially I wrote a 5-star review upon my first visit because it was great. Really had no complaints other than the garlic fries were kinda boring and my burger was slightly under cooked. But it was delicious and the potato salad--best I ever had. ON THAT VISIT. The second visit, I even brought an extra friend because we had raved about it so much. Got a table right away, the food was out to us in less than 10 minutes which I thought was unusual for a burger. I got the El Camino burger and it was terrible. Tasted nothing but buffalo sauce. It was a far cry from the burger I had the first time. All three burgers were dry and over cooked. The potato salad that we all bought a side of was just dry and bland. My friend looked at my like I was nuts for raving about this place. Our waitress brings our check without even asking how anything was or if we wanted anything else. I told her we wanted dessert and we would have preferred to have our tab split. She literally rolled her eyes, sighed and walked off. We all just sat there and looked at each other asking "did that just happen"?? The next thing we know, we have a "new waitress" which was fine with us because she wasn't a grumpy butt like the other one. She brought us a dessert menu. My friend got a chocolate cookie. She hated it and honestly it looked terrible. Dry and tasteless. My other friend and I split the bread pudding. Bread pudding ALWAYS has some kind of sauce on it...not theirs. Dry and bland as heck. Plus they nuked it so long you couldn't even attempt to eat it until all the ice cream had already melted off. This experience was so bad, that no matter how good the first one was, I won't be going back. Consistency is SUPER important in a restaurant and they just proved they don't have it. So we got a bacon blue cheese burger with potato salad and the wrap with a side of Mac and cheese for take out. Upon ordering my little girl noticed a cockroach on the floor. She is deathly afraid of bugs so I killed it and threw it in the trash. I told the person taking or order and was pretty much like well you killed it and threw it away, right? Okay. I get it. Things happen and bugs may or may not have come from outside, etc. we get our to go order that does not have the potato salad which I realize once I'm two miles away. Well I'm sure the response is going to be come back, we will make it right. Okay that's easy to say, but when I've got a new born and a four year old it's not so easy. Overall the food was good, they forgot an item and had a cockroach on the floor of the place. When I tell someone taking my order they blow it off. So take it for what you want. Price is high for Tustin, Ca. But it's a gastropub so if that's what your looking for this is it. $33 including tip for two entrees and some Mac and cheese. While visiting, I Yelped some places for lunch and discovered this gem in Old Town Tustin. We had a Turkey Burger and (special of the day) steak sandwich. Both were well prepared, delicious, and filling. The crinkle cut fries were very good. There is also a tempting beer and wine selection. Service was outstanding: helpful, courteous, and attentive. I'm thrifty (OK, cheap) but was willing to give AG a try even though their prices are on the high side.
