Oh Breakfast Republic. When I had some family in SD, this used to be our favorite brunch spot. The pancake flights alone are enough to make me swoon. I love pancakes, but getting try three flavors? Heck yeah! This time, I opted for the vegan tres leches pancakes. Omg. Honestly, one of those things that I would have no idea were vegan unless they said so. Tres leches is a risky flavor to make vegan (I mean, so much milk), but these pancakes were buttery, creamy, and soaked with sweet cream. So good. On our last trip to Breakfast Republic, I ordered something different. I went with the chicken sausage omelet. Unfortunately, it was drier than a day in the Mojave Desert in summer. It tasted like they precooked the egg, then laid it on a plate and added the ingredients. There was something wrong with how it was cooked. Each item was there, but the flavors did not blend together. I was craving some fresh tomatoes, maybe some melted cheese, or some pico with salsa. Anything that would add flavor. It was bland. It was dry. The toast was not toasted, and I had to add the small amount of butter on the toast. Again, dry and bland. This was not a good omelet. Firstly, I want to say that the inside and outside of the restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing and absolutely love the whole setup of everything. The decor and the theme of the rooster is implemented well throughout the restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly, and honestly each worker that we all came across were quite friendly. We ordered the American Breakfast and the Jalapeño Cheddar Sausage Omelette, and the portions were very generous. The Asiago chicken sausage was especially tasty and was one of the highlights of the meal as you can tell I dug into it before taking a pic. The omelette was flavorful with a nice balance of cheese, sausage, and jalapeño. My only minor criticism was the breakfast potatoes, which were a bit too crunchy and seemed slightly overcooked for my taste. My daughter was craving vegan pancakes and she found this spot after searching online. It's a cool spot with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It's light and bright with a great chicken motif. Although it was a busy Saturday, we were able to get sat in under 30 minutes. My daughter ordered the tres leches vegan pancakes, which we all loved. I ordered the traditional buttermilk pancakes and they were good, but not the best I've ever had. My wife ordered the chilaquiles and they were very good. The other bartender with her was also great but I did not get her name. The manager Dalton (I believe) was also personable and nice. I really enjoyed the food and my Chamango and Lychee mimosas. We came in hoping it wasn't too long of a wait, we were quoted 40min and decided to wait. There's so many shops around and even Trader Joe's to checkout while you wait to be called! I wish I remembered the gentleman in the host stand because he was so kind! They called us like 25min after they quoted our time so it was definitely quicker than we expected. I first tried Breakfast Republic years ago in SD and am so glad they since expanded to many more locations in OC and LA county. The food here is delicious and the service is impeccable; everyone is so sweet and is always checking up on you. Parking here is a little difficult as it's located right across from UCI and it's always packed when I go. First time trying Breakfast Republic for brunch. The wait was long, but the atmosphere was nice. Service... could've been better. I ordered the cinnamon pancakes and orange juice. The OJ was actually excellent. The pancakes were good, but not the best I've had, especially for the price. Funny enough, the best cinnamon pancakes I've ever had were during a random road trip stop at an Applebee's somewhere on the drive to Bend (I think Oregon?) and somehow they were serving IHOP cinnamon pancakes. Don't ask me why, but they were ridiculously good. Back to Breakfast Republic -- good food, just not "worth the hype" good. What really got me though was the service and the payment screen. Tip options started at 18% and went up to 25%. Whatever happened to 15%? I was actually trying to leave less because our server NEVER checked back in, but somehow ended up hitting 18% and couldn't change it... so congratulations, card reader, you won. For what it's worth, my son and his Godfather liked their meals too, but both basically said the same thing: "It's good" -- not over-the-top. I debated whether to give this place three or four stars, but I finally decided on three. The reason is that when I first got here, people were waiting in line, so I assumed it was an amazing, must-visit spot. I guess my expectations were just too high, lol. The server was standing right behind us, but they just kept rolling forks and knives in napkins and completely ignored us. I tried to make eye contact several times, but they kept moving away, so I couldn't even flag them down. After waiting quite a while, the server finally came over and we ordered. I was a bit annoyed at this point, but then the server approached us with a big, friendly smile, so my mood softened up a bit, haha.We each ordered our food and waited, and the wait time for the dishes wasn't actually that long. Once the food came out and we tried it, well, how should I put it? It didn't really have that 'wow, this is amazing' factor. It just felt like your average American brunch. If it were right in front of my house, I might drop by once in a while, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. Located in the UTC complex, breakfast republic is a perfect place for students who want to do brunch without a car (aka me). I love that they have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options, which gave me plenty to choose from. I got a harvest omelette, and it comes with choice of bread, butter, jam, omelette, and LOTS of potatoes. Overall, I enjoyed the warm food and service was pretty quick (I did go on a weekday). I think they cook the eggs, then top the chips with the sauce and put the egss on and send it out. Unfortunately, the beans and rice were just barely warm. My wife had eggs benedict and the hollandaise was mayo based. It had a weird sour taste. My daughter had the yogurt bowl which was tasty and had some very fresh fruit - extra large blackberries. Ambience was great - you might see your UCI O-Chem professor dining with their family. Staff was extremely nice and service was good. We arrived just before 9:30 and by the time we were done eating, the room was full. I think they were pre-making dishes in anticipation of the busy brunch hour. Overall a 2-star review: if your holding temps are too low, you can easily make someone sick. The hollandaise tasted suspect as well. Potatoes were also very dry on the eggs benedict. read more

The other one ordered the American, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and toast. We all ordered drinks. I had my usual Chai Tea Latte, our son had a cold Ube Latte, and my husband had a drip coffee. All were tasty and came out promptly after we ordered! Busy day but they have a great process putting you on the list and texting when the table is ready. You're really going to like this place. The line out the door might tip you off to the fact that it's a local favorite. We were given a 15 minute wait but it only took about 5. The menu is nice. It's got the breakfast classics as well as sandwiches for old Joe. I prefer a sando. The prices are on the higher side but the food is delicious. The wait staff is fun and interactive. The ambiance is playful and a little boozey. They have a pretty cool bar set up over here. Another cool thing here is the merch. We have been coming to this location for quite sometime now. I feel like it's always been hit or miss, but the past few times things were not so great. The food has gone downhill and one of my favorites was completely taken off the menu. The last time we were there I had to ask them to heat my sausage as it came out cold. The toast was not toasted properly and came out flat and lifeless. I'm not sure if it's changed management or the cooks are different, but something is definitely off. Came in on a Tuesday to catch up with a friend and were seated right away! The place is really cute and cozy with comfortable bench seating & an outdoor patio. The food was delicious! Eggs benny with tomato & avocado + chilaquiles with avocado. Yum! Would've been 5 stars but our server wasn't the best. She took a while to get our order in & bring the coffee (I watched it sit for 10 minutes before she got around to it). Maybe they were understaffed. She rushed us out after an hour of being there, which was a pretty big bummer and took my food away before I was done with it. She asked us to leave because of people waiting but there were other open tables & no one outside. Not sure what the deal was, pretty disappointed in the service. We stopped by on the weekend after an event at UCI. There was a 30-40 min wait on the weekend. The staff was friendly in taking our name down on the waitlist. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant itself is decently sized but can be kinda hectic when it's busy. Outdoor seating was not as noisy as indoor but you do have to be mindful of flies haha. Menu was pretty standard for most breakfast/brunch places. Because it was busy, it did take a while before the staff came back to take our order. I think we waited around 10mins after being seated. After ordering food it did take more than 15mins to get our drink order and shortly after did our food come out. Overall the food was ok. My friend got the crab and crawfish eggs Benedict but it didn't have a lot of crawfish on it. It seemed a little overpriced for what it was. I got a San Diego eggs Benedict which I thought was ok. Overall not a bad experience but not sure if I'll be back unless I have something to do in that area. Parking isn't too bad since it's in the university plaza. There are some parking spots marked for 30mins and 2hr, I guess be mindful of that. It wasn't hard to find a spot on the weekend. read more

Love the food, extremely inaccurate wait times. From hostess to hostess, please give accurate times , 25-30 min wait is very different from an hour 15 . EVEN told us "you might get seated earlier" And an hour wait time is very different from 2.5 hours. Especially dining with my disabled grandma and a baby in a stroller, we want to know how long we're actually going to wait around. I understand the wait times can change but either update us as we're standing in front of you or change tables around to accommodate someone who's handicapped . Every 15 minutes they keep saying it's another 15 minute wait . People after us getting seating before us, open tables. I worked in many restaurants before I know how it works, I just don't understand how you're not seating the same party size in order and giving people false hope by saying it's a 30 minute wait you might get seated earlier. Checked in 11:50 Sat by 1:04 Put in order 1:09 1:51 still no food Crazy lol I keep having to edit in real time Food came 1:57 no utenstils Had to get up to take a phone call and they started clearing the table asap LMAO So they brought us new water because they already cleared out water and it spilled everywhere , despite 3 servers seeing water all over the table passing by us only the bussers helped up.
