My husband and I came into town from Sacramento for an overnight stay in Georgetown to escape reality for the night. We got to the Inn, were promptly greeted, checked in and provided a room key and a tour of the inn to show us to our room. This Inn is soooooooo cute!!! The owner was so sweet. She had wine and cheese available at 4:30pm. We sat outside and enjoyed a nice little snack. The room was comfortable and we opted for a room with an attached bathroom. They have definitely worked to maintain the Victorian appeal. After a nights rest, we got up for coffee and breakfast. The breakfast she made was heavenly. Perfect portions and freshly made. If you're in the Georgetown area, I highly recommend a stay here. Very quiet, relaxing and enjoyable. read more

What a wonderful spot nestled in small but historically significant Georgetown. The town boasts being within a short drive to MANY lakes, campgrounds and hiking opportunities. I rented a room at the American Ricer Inn for my birthday weekend. I highly recommend renting room 14 or 15 if you're okay with stairs - room 14, which I rented, has its own wood fireplace (!!!) bathroom and a lovely bathtub to soak in. The inn provides wood for you. Their breakfast was delicious and hospitality polite and so helpful. Ask the young women working there where to go to see beautiful lakes. The only reason there is not 5 stars is because one of the reasons I rented here was for the hot tub, which was not working during my stay. I was really looking forward to that. If you are looking for a well-maintained, historic Victorian bed-and-breakfast just a two hour+ drive from Reno or the Bay Area, you should definitely check this place out! Oh, the town has a few ghost stories, too! Other sites in town are the Saloon/Inn, armory and other Civil War era sites, Shandey's for burgers, and their cute grocery store right on the "strip." I went back and forth between giving the place a 2 or 3 star, but I settled on a two as there were negatives than positives. It is an okay place, old and quite charming but that is where the strong points end. The staff was pleasant, including the owner, but the place is in serious need for a complete overhaul. The bed was about as squeaky as you can get. Move in any direction and its makes loud noises. They advertise a reception with appetizers and drinks, yet there were none. Their reason, a legitimate one for a while, was COVID. If this is true, and I have no doubt it is, remove it from you advertising. It is misleading. Third, they advertised a served breakfast. One strawberry, two extremely thinly sliced melon pieces, four blueberries, and the equivalent of one scrambled egg with half a sausage is not breakfast, it is a snack. Also, they said they would serve it only between 8:30 and 9 am which is really inflexible. We got ours around 9:20. The advertised bath tub is extremely small and isn't in the bathroom but in the bedroom. I would have had to have my knees up in my chest to have sat in it. I truly wish I could give it a better review but then I wouldn't be honest. One last comment, if you don't need to come to Georgetown, CA, don't. It isn't really much and the road between it and Placerville should not be driven at night, much less in the daytime. The Mount Rose Highway is like a straight super highway compared to the one we drove on. My knuckles still haven't gotten color back in them and I didn't drive! read more

We have stayed at the Inn several times long ago when it was owned by Will and Maria. This time we were visiting friends in Georgetown and needed a place to stay so we decided on the American river Inn. Did not want to stay at the Rock Creek Inn due to past negative experiences I must say the Inn has a unique feeling. Even though it was May, it was 90 degrees in town. There is no a/c so hot weather can be uncomfortable. Screening the windows would help as the only way to cool the room at night is open the windows, but this allows the knats to come into the room. We noticed that the screen door to the porch downstairs was torn. How hard would it be to replace this? The owner was in Tahoe, so his mother was in charge. We asked about the wine and snack hour promised in their web page. We were informed the mother sometimes doesn't feel like doing it. "She is an old lady " was the explanation we got from the young lady employee. The breakfast was adequate, certainly not gourmet as advertised. The two breakfasts we had were identical. Scrambled eggs, 2 sausages, English muffin, and a small dish of fruit. A hint. Walk down to the VFW if the basement bar is open. There is a neon sign that is on if they are open. read more

I am shocked at the amount of positive reviews. I would say they were bought but it's clear the owners refuse to put any money into this business. After 12 hours of driving, me and my father were greeted by the rudest most obnoxious person I have ever met in my life. She criticized and talked down for us, blocking our way into the inn for over 5 minutes before I cut her off to ask her if we had a place to stay or not for the night. She said yes because she had already ran our card for two nights (Thursday and Sunday) but that we were not welcome to come back to "her bed and breakfast" after that night. Never in my whole life have I been treated so poorly by anyone let alone hospitality staff. I felt so unsafe with the clear fire code violations throughout the space and I won't even begin on the run down condition of the inn, terrible upkeep and disgusting smell that comes from the place. From the way I was greeted in the beginning to the end of my visit I had felt so unsafe and unwelcome which is the last thing you would want to feel on a vacation. Don't even use this place as a last resort. You are better off sleeping in a dumpster. Edit: Jason, it amazes me that you took the time to respond to this message when every time my father called, you were too busy to speak to him or return his call. Discriminating against us for being part of a Jeep event in the area when we did not drink nor party while there is just that. Discrimination. My father showed the host his ID, the criticism came after she verified who we were. We never received the email and unfortunately, we didn't receive the voicemail left until we were down the mountain. I suggest training your "staff" on proper etiquette and procedure as we were not the only ones that weekend who were unaware of the 3 hour check in window. We should have been notified when booking over the phone or before the day of arrival when you live in an area that is a known dead zone for cell phone signal. Charming time. Our first time staying here. The inn is full of history and charm. We stayed 3 nights, it was hard to leave. Normally one looks forward to going home after a few days, not this time, I could have stayed longer. Very nice inn keepers, Jean, Laura and Amber. Wonderful breakfast each morning. Fresh and delicious. Jean made homemade blueberry muffins, yummo! Georgetown is a neat little town. The mercantile has some wonderful finds and gifts. We ate at the Mexican restaurant across from the inn, very good food. Great crispy tacos. Fresh guacamole. Everything was delicious. Worton market has a nice selection of munchies and refreshing drinks to choose from. Didn't get a chance to try a sandwich from the deli but the choices looked delicious. I was looking for a relaxing place to explore and get away for a 2 night stay, and finding a nice pet friendly place to go to is not always easy. We got our little pup Winslow from the animal shelter at the beginning of Covid, and he is the best travel dog. He loves going anywhere we are and never barks or is a problem. So I found the Inn on Booking.com and called to get more info. I spoke with Jeanine, the owner's mom, and she was a delight! We talked about the different rooms available and we chose #8, a larger Queen room with a private bath. The balcony is currently being restored, but there is a nice screen door to open and get the breeze at night. Not all rooms have a TV or a private bath, so be aware of that. There is no air conditioner unit, but they have a portable that they will add when it is hot. So if you like air conditioning, call ahead to discuss. When we arrived it was before 3pm, and you will find the door locked, as check in is between 3pm to 6pm, so we explored the little town. Locals were so friendly and pet friendly. The mercantile is just down the road and has some antiques and other items to discover. After enjoying a stroll around town we went back at 3pm to be met by Jeanine and Amber, who is a sweet young girl that is the housekeeper. Tia is Jeanine's tiny 2 pound chihuahua that we enjoyed. Sebastian is the innkeepers dog. Very sweet Jack Russel. There is only one room on the first floor, with two larger twin beds, so if you don't do stairs, this is not the place for you. Our room was at the end of the hall on level 2. Spacious with a cute old fashioned bath with a shower attachment. Now if you want privacy when you bathe, you won't want this room. I read a review where a mother and son had this room and neither could use the bath. There is a wonderful yard where one could go while the other was bathing, but I get it. Across the hall was a large shared bath with a shower that you are welcome to use. No one else was using it while we were there. We loved the deep tub though. Note: not big enough for two. The bed was very comfortable, very high and there were stairs to get on if you are needing assistance. Winslow liked that as his little short legs didn't get him high enough! The 3rd floor has two rooms, including a honeymoon suite. We didn't see it though. Breakfast is served in a wonderful dining area or you can eat on the deck. Coffee is on at 7:30 and breakfast at 8:45. The food was yummy! There are games available to play also in the breakfast room. We took a couple to our room. Across the hall is a large family dining room or could be used for a corporate retreat or large gathering. Wedding breakfast would also be perfect here. Before Covid they had afternoon wine and snacks, I'm hoping they bring that back soon. They have glasses and an opener, if needed. You can bring your own snacks. If you come on a Monday, the whole town basically shuts down, only Terry's Pizzeria is open. They actually have a good selection of sandwiches and burgers. We sat on the patio with Winslow. The Mexican restaurant across the street was quite good also. Come to rest, take walks and relax. The garden is really beautiful and you can sit at a table and work, or in a chair and read. Hopefully they will get a couple stand alone hammocks (hint!) I think it would be great for a small garden wedding in this garden. Each day and evening were so relaxing! There is a hot tub that unfortunately wasn't working at this time. This house has a lot of history. It was built in the 1800's when the town was a gold rush town called Growlersburg. Don't come expecting a Hilton or Marriot. This is a beautiful vintage bed and breakfast, with creaky wood floors and some shared baths. If you are not looking for a bed and breakfast style of stay, don't come here. But if you want to enjoy conversation with others in a relaxed family style atmosphere, you found it! The best experience I have ever had! From beginning to end...for starters my husbands credit cards wouldn't work for check in and the lady who runs the hotel was so sweet and patient. The Inn is absolutely a beautiful Victorian design & we loved hearing the history from the very sweet girl who served us our delicious home cooked breakfast. I wish there was a way to give an extra star! The innkeeper Janine couldn't have been nicer! We arrive much later than anticipated, and yet she still greeted us at the door. The Inn itself, is gorgeous! The rooms are adorable and the beds are super comfy! Everything is extremely -clean no dust to be seen anywhere! From the robes in the room and the adorable local soap, no detail has been forgotten. There is no AC, but there is a ceiling fan and there was also an additional fan in the room. I found it to be very comfortable. But the crowning jewel, absolutely has to be the scrumptious breakfast! Fresh delicious sweet orange juice, piping hot coffee, tea & even cocoa! Today breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs, fresh fruit and fresh baked cheddar biscuits with sausage gravy! Oh my goodness! Delicious! We stayed at the Inn several years ago, and was a totally delightful stay. Now the Inn is not as well kept, still old and very Victorian, but needs serious up keep. The innkeeper appeared to be not really interested or friendly when we mentioned her hospitality hour was not set up, and she said she forgot to have the girls pick up anything, and when Covid occurred she discontinued doing it. She needs to have the website changed. If we just wanted drinks, we could go a cross the street to the bar. When we requested at least an ice bucket for cold sodas we had with us, we were given a blender top to use, because her excuse was her ice bucket had a "hole" in it. Our room did not have a hairdryer, no amenities for soap, shampoo, or conditioner. The kitchen was closed for the evening, no access for even coffee and not an offer to make any. Breakfast ok, not the worst, certainly not the best. We are pretty seasoned travelers, and are aware of what makes for a delightful stay. We can find a lot of things to do in remote places, but Georgetown unfortunately offers nothing, and the innkeeper was not helpful, and her hospitality lacking. Doubt we will ever be back unfortunately. read more

I hosted my parents anniversary party here in May and it turned out great. Jason was helpful with all the planning leading up to the day and Laura was a big help day of. We rented the whole place for much less than other venues and had all the rooms full with party guests. The breakfast the next morning was delicious as well. Jason also helped us by setting me up with a caterer for the event and a rental place for chairs and table cloths. Jason was able to provide round tables that we used on the patio which was a plus. We got lots of great compliments from guests saying how they loved the venue. We booked this place a year in adavance but one of the party guests ended up booking it a few months out for her own event. Great venue for a wedding or event, you can't beat the cost for getting the whole place to yourself. My parents were also able to have their dog with them which worked out great. read more

My best friend and I take 2-3 trips a years on short 2-3 night breaks away. For this trip, November 21-24, 2024, we decided to visit Placerville. American River Inn came up as a suggested lodging. I'm so glad we stayed! The Inn is a lovely old mansion that has been turned into guest rooms while still retaining a very welcoming and cozy homely feeling. The days and nights have been so cold and the wood burning stove in the parlor was very inviting. We were offered wine and cheese on our first night there. I spent time talking to Jason's mom while having coffee the second morning and I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation and her company. The room we stayed in was charming and the bed was comfortable. Our last morning, Trinity made us breakfast of eggs, fruit and cinnamon raisin toast, which was very nice. Jesse, the butler was helpful and very kind. Overall, I would recommend this sweet place to stay, especially if you're looking for a simple, romantic, comfortable place to spend time with someone you like. This is a very late review, as my stay was back in April. American River Inn is a magestic Victorian mansion in Georgetown. As soon as my son and I arrived, Jason, the innkeeper and owner of the home, was there to greet us. Before I review the room, let me just say that Jason is fantastic! He gave us a tour of the entire house, along with some of its history. It is clearly his love and his passion. The decor of the inn is a little mismatched- there are many antiques, but also quite a bit of "chachkis". I have to be honest that I wasn't feeling comfortable enough to even shower. I thought that I booked a room with a private bath, but I was not aware that the room had a claw foot tub with a hand held shower head attached at the foot of the bed and close to the tv. It felt like it was thrown into the room and didn't belong. If I wanted a private shower or bath, I had to use the community shower, sit in tub to shower, and kick my 9 year old son out of the room in order to do so. It also had a constant dripping of water the entire night, as did the utility sink that was also stuck into the room. I was quite bummed to know that I paid extra for the private bath and larger bed/cot, and didn't get what I was expecting in those amenities. After whitewater rafting all day, a shower would have been nice, but bc there was no privacy, neither my son nor I felt comfortable showering. The grounds are stunning. Jason does an amazing job at maintaining all of the flowers and greenery and gardening that he singlehandedly started. There is a big community hot tub for use by guests as well. It was nice to sit in at night and meeting some of the other guests. I want to be sure to make clear that the history of the hotel and the town, as well as Jason's love, passion, and energy make this inn worth staying at. If you're looking for a bed and breakfast that is styled in every sense of the way to the time period that it belongs to, and if you're looking for top notch, you may be a little disappointed, but it is still the BEST place to stay if you're planning to stay in Georgetown. After all, it is a tiny small town nestled in the foothills, not a place for luxury by any means.! read more

An amazing, historic bed and breakfast was just the thing for a quick overnight trip from Reno for my wife's birthday. We love the area and go to Apple Hill yearly but finally booked a room. Great spot for romantic getaway, a family trip with kids and even the dog if you want. The breakfast was incredible, the staff were helpful, friendly, outgoing which really made the stay. This place has an old world European feel which really makes you feel like you're stepping back in time. I'm going to give 4 stars to this little place, because Jeanine is the sweetest lady and had the teeny tiniest dog I've ever seen. We enjoyed our stay over-all.. The only things that were a bit off for us was our room. The decor felt random compared to the other rooms which had a nice theme going and felt more eclectic and antique. Also the room we stayed in was not the room I thought I had booked for us, but I didn't have any proof, because it was not in my email confirmation. I would say that is something that could maybe be updated. Also, our room was a bit dusty and could have been cleaned up better. Breakfast was a nice little touch with orange juice and coffee. Unfortunately we didn't stay for breakfast the second day, because we had to leave early. Other than the small improvements that could happen, it's a great little place. read more

They had brandy in the upstairs reading area. The breakfast was ok...nothing special. The WiFi sucked and I couldn't use my phones service. The owner isn't the best customer service representative I have ever dealt with. The vintage furniture is very cute but if you heavier then 150 pounds or taller then 5' tall...not very comfortable to sit in. Getting out during "shelter-in-place" has been challenging because we feel we need to stay home. However, staying at the American River Inn was the BEST thing since March began! So, we ventured north to Apple Hill area and found a wonderful respite! We stayed in a great room on the second floor. It was cozy, clean, well decorated, warm and cared for.... just like staying at home. But we weren't home.... stuck in the same place for months! Instead, we were away from all of the horrid news of the pandemic and incessant election! No TV, phone or interruptions in our room. We did have excellent wifi and phone reception, but we also had peace and quiet! Could not have asked for more! Oh, and it is perfectly safe! Everyone wears masks, are socially distanced, and there are plenty of bathrooms where we conveniently washed our hands! The rooms are not shared and housekeeping doesn't come in each morning (as per county/state health regulations with the pandemic) - but we had all of the clean linens and such readily accessible, and the staff is so helpful and kind! Always at the ready if need be, and so pleasant! And can they cook!!! OMGoodness, this is the best Bed and BREAKFAST ever! Each morning our breakfast was absolutely delicious! Glasses of orange juice, cups of coffee or tea, creamy scrambled eggs, English muffins with delicious jam, and juicy sausages, plus a fruit bowl that is gorgeous to look at, and delightful to eat! The most creamy sausage gravy enrobed tender and mouth-watering cheddar biscuits were served the next morning, with more tastefully delicious fresh fruit that was garnished with dollops of yogurt and whipped cream. Again - OMGoodness! They are also so very careful with any special dietary restrictions! And it still tastes fabulous!!! The house itself is an adventure too! The rooms are available to look into, and they are so fun. It's like being a visitor during the Gold Rush. And the lobby, aka parlor, has lots of local history info that brings the mansion and area to life. We are looking forward to going back again! Very nice and very well appointed with period furniture and decorations. We were impressed with the almost museum quality and feel of each room. Unfortunately the rooms are starting to show signs of neglect and disrepair. The breakfasts were simple and sufficient, but unannounced and inflexible. Also, the hostess seemed put off by our presence and seemed almost hostile.The prices were alright, but one should be aware that there is almost nothing to do in this small town, and the local restaurants are so-so. Although it may be worth a trip, if only to experience the decor, I cannot recommend this place for more than just a night's stay. read more

My family of four stayed here over Labor Day weekend for a total of 3 nights 4 days and we throughly enjoyed ourselves! The staff was super friendly and accommodating! Our babysitter had canceled on us last minute so we didn't want to cancel our stay so we brought 'em along with us. Our room was only meant to sleep 2 people, and they were booked, so they set up 2 little beds for our kids on the floor which were super comfy! I wouldn't have minded sleepin on it myself if it wasn't for my bad back. I thought that was totally sweet of them to do and went above and beyond to please. If you are looking for a place to host a party, wedding or retreat that is welcoming and warm, but won't break the bank then American River Inn is the place for you. Our kids held a 35th anniversary party there for us and we had about 70 people who all had a great time. We had a mix of catered appetizers that Jason recommended and pizza from the local pizzeria, as well as a bar (we furnished the bartender and alcohol). It was a great place for a gathering. By booking the entire hotel we did not incur a venue fee and more importantly had 14 rooms available for family and friends to stay the night. We partied on the outside deck and then later brought the party inside to the living room when the group was smaller. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and big bonus we were able to bring our puppy. The next morning the Inn provided a delicious breakfast. Laura, the manager was particularly gracious and helpful. The American River Inn is charming with 14 different rooms, some with bathrooms, some with shared baths. Perfect for a family reunion if you are looking for modern style or hotel amenities this may not be the place for you. We had an excellent time staying at the Inn. Jeanine was a wonderful host. We stayed in room 5. It was beautiful. We enjoyed the hot tub in the back yard every night and the wine and cheese was an added bonus. We will definitely be back! read more

Our room was filthy pet hair everywhere. We also had an issue with ants during our visit. Staff was not helpful when made them aware of issues. Walls are super thin and you can hear the people in the room next to you not to mention either squirrels or rats crawling on the roof at night. Extremely overpriced for what it was..... a rundown Victorian in serious need of repair. This place used to great place to stay but I can't recommend it anymore. I think the staff running it are just not putting in the time. Your better off at hotel and local restaurant. Don't even get me started on the food literally frozen items from Cisco that had been defrosted and refrozen several times. I was literally scared to go in the hot tub as it looked milky and filthy. I really hope I don't up with bed bugs. Tell the owner to make this place great again. read more
