The beds were too firm, blankets were scratchy so if you sleep with a shirt off, you're out of luck. The coffeemaker was dirty so the coffee didn't come out properly. One of the lights stopped working and we barely used it. Lastly, there were three spots of mold on the bathroom ceiling. The only positives were the wifi and TV worked well and the lady at the front desk was very friendly. I stayed at the hotel for two nights, the checking in staff was super nice and welcomed me with a smile. The rooms are older but very clean and it had everything that I would need, the sheets and towels smelled so so good, the bathroom was scrubbed clean as well. I stayed two nights but the room was cleaned each day. I only wish that there were curtains on the rooms not only the heavy curtains becasue I wanted the natural light to be in the room but that meant that every single person walking by could look into my room and in the morning , when I was getting ready , the heavy curtains had to stay closed. Stayed two nights recently to attend a wedding nearby. There are not many options for lodging in the area, so this met our needs at an affordable rate. The front desk person is super nice and friendly and happily accommodated my need for an additional pillow. She even gave me the lone "special" pillow reserved for guests like me with neck issues. This is a budget hotel, so adjust your expectations accordingly. Our room was clean, the bed was super comfortable, and the place was very quiet at night contributing to a peaceful slumber. Do take note, that despite all the website ads and even the large sign out front of hotel, there is NO complimentary breakfast of any kind offered on property. Don't do like me searching the property in the morning for what I was sure must be some hidden pastries and coffee somewhere on site! There is a little market a couple properties up the road that you can probably snag some OJ and mini donuts at. Also, be warned that the in room coffee is some weak a** brew, and you will only drink if it desperate (like I was) and can't wait til you go out to breakfast down the street at the Waffle House (which is pretty awesome by the way.) I would consider staying here again as the price is right and I slept very comfortably for two nights. The only saving grace for this hotel is the front desk person, she was extremely nice, super pleasant and accommodating. The hotel needs a LOT of maintenance and deep cleaning. The inside of the door was all grimy and dirty, the lampshade right over the coffee maker is full of dust and grime, It looks like it hasn't been cleaned for decades, there was a hole in the bathroom wall and the bathroom tiles were loose so when you stepped on them it pinched and cut the skin on your feet, the walls were all dinged up, the electrical outlets were covered in dirt, dust and dead ants, we found beer bottle caps on side of bed, the pillows are a laughable joke, thin as a pancake and lumpy, they should just throw them all away. On the bottom floor there are thick curtains on the front window, but no sheer curtains so you can't open your front window curtains without people constantly walking by and peering in your room. They have very bright security lights in front of the doors, they light up your room all night long, even with the thicker curtains on the windows, bathrooms don't have a hairdryer and the ones that do they don't work. You can see the pretty pine trees in the back of the hotel but it's not in a great area. There's a bunch of homeless people living up on the hill by an abandoned strip mall that's right by the hotel . All it would take is a little touch up paint and a LOT of elbow grease to clean the place up. read more

This is our first time going to Apple Hill and we wanted a no frills hotel for one night. This place exceeded our expectation. The location is great, right off the 50. I called them a few hours before we arrived to let them know we were checking in late, and the young man on the phone told us the office closed at 11pm and to call back if we were going to be in later to make arrangements for us to get the keys. The same young man checked us in. He was very polite and informative. My husband and I hold good customer service in high regard since it's so rare now a days. Our room was on the 1st floor. The parking lot is well lit and clean. The room is also clean and comfy. We would stay here again. read more

SAVED MONEY staying in this motel...rather than spending up to $300 elsewhere...Easy check-in...Service with a smile!. (even at 1am in the morning when I forgot my room key and had to ring the nite bell)!!!...Stayed in Room 120 for two nites..VERY TALL King size bed.. ( wish there was a step stool)..room tucked away in the corner on 2nd floor..so no unwanted noises or voices from guests walking by your room..the room decor was updated and very nice compared to the other rooms we passed by..room smelled fresh and was very clean..water pressure strong although cold water not very cold!.. Xfinity cable!..ice machine!..in- room coffee maker, fridge, and microwave came in handy...ample parking lot.. loved that there is a shopping strip mall that adjoins the property...so within walking distance you will find a Dollar Tree and Smart N Final..and a few restaurants..8 min drive to Walmart and Red Hawk Casino..scenic 75 min drive to South Lake Tahoe.. Recently I stayed at the national 9 Inn Placerville to attend my son's wedding. I would definitely recommend it. It is a older motel but it is very clean and comfortable. I cannot express how nice and accommodating the staff were especially Sharon the manager. She is the best! That was my first time in Placerville which is a quaint little town. I would love to go back and explore the town more and if I do I would definitely stay at the National 9 Inn. read more

Stayed here for two days over Memorial Day 2018. Let's be honest. This is NOT the Hilton. It is more of a standard 1 to 1 1/2 star old style motel. You are not going to get a mint on the pillow...nor does it seem you will find a bed bug. The property management team seems to work very hard keeping the place up to snuff given what they have to work with. The wi-fi works well. The T.V. is quite small but adequate. The bed was too soft for my taste but that is just me I suppose. The A.C. blew cold, the room was clean and the decorations in the room were not overly hideous. The pillows were not great but I had brought two of my own so that worked out. Shower had good pressure, toilet worked, towels were not from Neiman Marcus but they were not from the local thrift store either. The problem with this place is its location. It is right next to a dying strip mall which has attracted its fair share of crackheads. To combat that demographic from rifling through your locked car at the night the hotel has the place lit up like a prison yard at night. For bonus points it is RIGHT next to a major highway so all day and night you have cars accelerating heading East...and big rigs using the Jake brakes heading down the hill so you get this constant drone of noise. Bring earplugs and this is a decent hotel for a few days while in Placerville. read more

The front desk clerk was lovely - outstandingly efficient & friendly. The price was the cheapest one available at the time in Placerville. But that's where the good points end. The bed was rock hard (typical in a cheap hotel & to be expected) but the lack of cleanliness & lack of caring by housekeeping was fairly shocking. I have long, blonde hair. There were several short, dark hairs stuck to the outside edge of the tub at the floorline. There was dark soap scum accumulated around the grab bar handle in the shower and unidentifiable splatters on the walls around the bathroom sink area ( which wiped off easily, so that's just laziness on housecleaning's part). But the bed....omg. The entire blanket was FULL of holes, there were probably 40. The box spring cover was filthy. But the worst part of all of this was all the hair on the pillowcases! I took pictures documenting all of this, it was so bad. Lastly, the door to the room & the doorframe were just....grubby is the nicest way I can put it. I almost forgot to mention that every time the heater kicked off, the were loud crackling, rustling sounds coming from it. It certainly sounded like an animal trapped in there, though I'm sure it was only a fan needing to be cleaned in it or it was contracting from the cold. But it was difficult sleeping conditions, with all that constant, random loud noise. I'd share my pics here if I could, but there's no way to do that, apparently. read more

I like to stay at these little old "side of the highway" motels in this area when I am up hanging out at the river and don't feel like camping. This hotel is scrupulously clean, I will say that. There are several other choices though, and some have a pool which would have been nice in the heat we are having lately. Management is very nice, the price is in line with the other little places in the area, but there were ants in my bathroom and that put me off a bit. I know how difficult it can be to get rid of ants, and you don't want to use noxious pesticides... but management should know room 208 has an ant problem. Other than that, what do you expect for the 90 book at night price range...? The cleanliness of this place makes up for the tiny bathroom sink. Good water pressure in the shower. I did my research before booking this hotel. I wanted a place to stay in the Placerville area, that was decent, and close to the activities that we were going to, also with a budget in mind. The National 9 Inn, had a higher rating then Best Western, so we decided to go with it. It's a bit out of the way from Downtown Placerville, but that's ok. It's a quick drive, do keep in mind, if you need a taxi/uber/lyft good luck. They only have 1 or 2 cars per company and they can take a while. We should up about 3:30 in the afternoon, and our reservation was waiting for us. Had a downstairs room (I would have preferred upstairs, but the specific room is reserved at the time of booking). The lady behind the counter was a hoot! She has a bit of a tough gal exterior, but we made her laugh and enjoyed chatting with her. She asked the standard questions if we smoke, or if we had pets with us. Both answers were no. We went into our room which had just been cleaned. Works for me. My one and only complaint about this hotel is the perfumy smell. I'm not sure what it is, but it's very overwhelming. We tried to air the room out a bit, and it didn't work. My friend actually got a headache by the end of the evening, because the scent was so strong. Next time I go back (and I'm sure there will be a next time) I will request that they don't spray the room down with the perfume. It's just too much. Perks, the room had a fridge and microwave, very nice touch. And the room was REALLY clean. I looked in the shower, and was quite surprised at how clean it was. That was really nice to see. The air conditioning unit has seen some better days, but it worked great. I can deal with something not being that appealing to the eye, as long as it worked. Overall great room for a great price and the perfect location. I will recommend this and be back soon! read more

This is 4 stars that are not to be compared with 4-5 stars at the Ritz or Westin St Francis or whatever upscale boutique resort you are thinking of staying at. These are not luxury stars but stars to say :"If you need to stay in a motel in the Placerville area because the power is out at your friend's cabin in Pollock Pines-This Is Your Place". In fact the National 9 even has a special rate for No-Power-Freezing-Cold-Pollock-Pine-People and when we called to reserve some rooms, we were informed that they would turn the heat on in the rooms for us ahead of time so they'd be toasty when we arrived(big yay) and they'd add another batch to the chocolate chip muffins cooking the next morning. (huge yay). Rooms were clean, quiet and the bed was comfy. The chocolate chip muffins were sublime. The proprietor's are real people and there is something to be said for making an honest living running a quaint motel on the road to Tahoe, and putting some heart into it. Will we be back? In a heartbeat if the power outage at our friend's cabin strikes again this ski season. read more

Reality check... If you want a room at the W, this is not for you, nor why they get 5 stars in my book. Its 5 stars for its balance... its value. 1. Uber-clean. Really. Smelled fresh, not masked by freshener. Linens were clean, Not just bleached to death. Bathroom spotless, refrigerator spotless. Big fan, and I'm a bit anal about the clean factor. 2. Super comfy king bed! Woohoo!!!! So, I actually used to be a concierge at the W, and to be honest, I slept just as well on their bed as at the W. Simple as that. No, the sheets weren't 500 thread count, but I woke feeling great, as did my girlfriend. 3. Did I mention clean? 4. Courteous. Just nice, courteous people. Nothing magnificent, but pleasing in it's "beigeness". For the price, it's great. 5. Value. Their price is great, and worth every penny. 6. Great stop through. If you're on your way from SF to Tahoe, it's a great half way stop for some shut eye. If you do stay, downtown Placerville is actually quite charming. "Coffee and Rolls". I just like staying somewhere that publicizes they serve coffee and rolls. Enough Said. read more

Go ahead and book this hotel on your next visit to Placerville - here's why... Exterior: Quite clean and tidy. Grounds are swept, gardening and building exterior are in good shape; parking lot clean. Good job! Room interiors: VERY clean! Nice linens, clean bathroom, nice furniture, good wi-fi connection, good ventilation. Hotel staff: VERY accommodating! We had a pretty decent stay here. The management was pretty friendly. We only stayed one night and I don't think I would've wanted to stay longer. The room had a funky smell, the bathroom door wouldn't stay closed, the beds weren't super comfortable. The location is pretty fantastic, we were in town to visit apple hill, so it was very close to the highway and a quick drive to Placerville. SO - let me tell you about my stay. I had a wedding to attend in the area on 12/22. I called them on the phone because I was unable to schedule a room online. Not only did the speak to the owner (i forgot her name - but she was wonderful) but she hooked me up with a deal and took care of me. I arrived in the late afternoon and was mistakenly charged a bit higher than what I was originally told. I asked about it but didn't contest it... shortly thereafter I got a call saying to come on down to get the charge fixed... how awesome is that? The quality customer service had me all stoked. Arriving in the room was the usual. Clean, comfy, and what we needed. I was totally stressed that weekend and had to run around all crazy with the bride the night before the wedding as well as the following morning. My poor boyfriend was left not feeling great and grumpy. When we had to check out of the room at 11 (and I hadn't returned yet) - the awesome owner saw him fuddling around and offered him to hang in an empty room until I arrived... it was a crazy weekend but they took such great care of us. My son and I 'escaped' the horrible snowstorms in Pollock Pines to go to Placerville for almost a week - I was concerned that we wouldn't be able to get him out if he had a medical emergency. We had 3 local hotel/motel locations to choose from, none of which we'd ever stayed at before - Well, thankfully, we chose National 9!!! We got a room (the last one!!) on the first floor, accessible for my son, who uses a wheelchair! He wasn't able to access the bathtub, but we made do.... The room was very clean, very well stocked, and the folks in the office were some of the friendliest, most helpful people we've ever met!!! Nice sized mini-fridge, microwave, and a coffee maker. Honestly, all the comforts of home!! I highly recommend this motel - and am so happy that Placerville has such a pleasant place as this to stay at!!! read more

Well we have been staying here for a number of years, the last time we were on property was last October. We were just calling yesterday about reservations for this October, well actually next weekend. This is a nice little hotel, so much better than some other "named" brands in Placerville. Nothing at all fancy, but beds comfortable (even though when you get 2 they are doubles, but double extra long), rooms clean, rates are always better than others for a similar (or better known) property. . The person that answered the phone at the front desk was a Kim. Younger sounding person but very plesant also, looking forward to say hi and get to know another "hopefully" long term person. read more
