So sad when the bottom of my boot heel came off while on vacation recently but happy they were able to repair it. The rubber bottoms were replaced on both boot heels in only a few days for $25. Great we could pick them up on a Sunday, too! read more

4 Stars because the outcome is LIKE-NEW, but the customer service isn't there yet. I've brought a few pairs of heels to American Shoe Repair (in the Dry Cleaning spot off of Bumby) and every time I am WOWed by how they turn out. They take only a few days to get my heels looking brand new! I always need the tips of the heels replaced (apparently I step very hard because they wear out quickly!) and the price is very reasonable. A few times the material going up the heal has also been snagged and looked terrible and they fixed it/made it look great for no extra charge! Clearly, the person repairing the shoes is very good at his/her job and is passionate about returning a great shoe. The women who have always been at the counter when I've gone have never smiled or been friendly. That's not to say that they are unfriendly, but I find myself telling them to 'Have a good day!' as I leave rather than the other way around. In this case- a smile can go a long way! :) read more

Pricing and craftsmanship aren't what I'm used to. I'm a transplant from North Jersey so there are higher expectations when it comes to shoe repair. In Jersey, my family and I have been going to the same guy since the late 80s. But if you have no frame of reference, then you'll probably be very satisfied with this place. I'm not going to get into pricing because they don't have standardized pricing, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But you can't handle and loyalty isn't rewarded. Not sure if the owner is ever in the building. If so, you wouldn't notice. He/she isn't out on the floor thanking patrons for their business. I got one pair of shoes re-soled along with a polish. Soles were black while shoes are light brown. No discount on the job due to mismatch. Awesome... read more

I was able to bring a pair of boots that I needed the heel repaired on both of them in the morning and pick them up the same day after 5 PM. So for that reason I am giving them five stars for the service same day. The price was $12 which sure beats paying $55 for a new pair. The staff is not that friendly but at that point I didn't care, I just didn't want to buy new shoes. I would recommend going here if you need quick service at a good price and don't feel like paying for a new pair. read more

First time using American Shoe Repair. Dropped sandels off for repair, to be picked up a week later. Arrived week later, shoes not ready, had not even been started. Same time dropped off another pair of sandels, promised to be ready 5 days later. Went to pick up both pairs of sandels, first pair was ready but they changed the color of the shoes from brown to black. 2nd pair of sandels were again, not ready. After several excuses with no guarantee when they would be ready, I asked for a refund. Obivious problem if shoe repair cannot be done in time promise, plus the fact they changed the color of the shoes. They offered a credit for future service, but since I will never go back to this store, just wanted my money back. Not a good way to do business. read more

I unfortunately had a very bad experience at American shoe repair on Bubby. I brought a pair of my boyfriends shoes to get the heel replaced the quality of the work was extremely poor. When I brought the shoes back I was expecting them to correct the issue. However, the owner was very rude to me and wanted to charge me again for what he did not do correctly the first time. Took three pairs of heels to them to fix and they were ready and looking good as new in three days! Very satisfied. Their prices are very reasonable and their counter service is fast. Dropped them by on my lunch break and was in and out in just a few minutes. read more

Just picked up my favorite pair of high heeled shoes. I picked here based of the good as new in other people reviews. I needed new plastic heel and insoles replaced. When I dropped them off they said they would custom cut the soles to fit the shoe. They also said they could fix the scrapes on the length of the heel. They just took a sharpie to the scuffs and scrapes on the heel. They did not do a good job of getting the new insole to match the shape of the shoe. The plastic heel replacements are good. Overall it's an okay job it works but I feel at $26it was a bit pricey for what was done. However is was Done in 48 hours that part made me happy. read more

My fiancée brought my Allen Edmonds Dalton boots here after our trip to Chicago and the soles got tore up. American shoe repair did an excellent job - I couldn't be happier. I've frequented American Shoe Repair over the past many years and have never had a bad experience. The cobbler is very cool and no mall-location shoe repair studio can match the genuine quality of this establishment. I've had multiple pairs of high-heeled work shoes resoled, buckles fixed, and my favorite roper boots resoled and polished. The boots came out like new and the quality of the sole is even better than the original from Justin. One note: if you're like me and take pride in the apparent wear of your boots, remember to request that the shoes not be polished if you're taking them in to be repaired. Seems like they perform it as a complimentary service. I've also had alterations made to a skirt at American Shoe repair and was happy with the outcome... so there's that. read more

Dropped off a pair of heels to have the little rubber thing on the bottom re attached. I'm pretty hard on my shoes and the concrete is not my friend! I'm heading out of town in the morning so I needed them back same day. I came by before they closed and picked them up. Just like new! The owner is a lovely woman! I'll definitely be back bc the price was very reasonable and she didn't charge extra for same day. They were quite busy so I'll likely try their dry cleaning services as well! read more

Just had insole/liner on heels repaired here and it's a sloppy job. Not glued all around and insoles hang over edges of the shoes. Also, they told me couldn't fix thong sandals but USA Shoes on Edgewater is able to do. read more

I just picked up my husband's leather shoes that we thought were beyond repair and they look amazing! I have no idea how they were able to do it, but they practically look brand new again. I will definitely go back and would recommend them to friends. read more

Never returning here again. Terrible customer service indeed. The front desk person was not only rude but lied to me several times, claiming she was the owner, then claiming the owner could not speak with me but she would relay my message to him or her, which went on for OVER A MONTH, and then claiming the owner was not in the store when I finally showed up and ended up talking to both the man and woman who apparently own the store, even though I was initially told yet again that neither were present, and then only one was present, until after speaking with the wife for some time the husband came out from the back of the store and spoke with me as well. The whole issue stemmed from me going into the store to find some water and stain protector for my expensive boots and being advised without the front desk person even touching my boots to spray a certain spray on the boots. When I did so at home, the boots ended up stained. I brought the boots back in and then the front desk person held them in her hands and said, oh, I see now, if I would have seen the tongue of the boots before, I never would have advised you to buy this spray for these boots. I found this frustrating as I went in to their store seeking knowledge because I have no knowledge about how to properly care for certain types of boots, and I was upfront with them about this and asked several times if she was sure the leather care product she was advising me to use was indeed the right one and would not affect the leather, etc. The front desk person then proceeded to blame the boot, blame the spray, and blame me, telling me to call the spray manufacturer, then the boot manufacturer. I told her I simply want to speak with the owner about what happened and ended up getting the run around for over a month, as I explained above. My advice: steer clear of this store. read more

I should have read the reviews before taking 6 pairs of shoes in for sole reattachment. Not only did this business do an overall shoddy job, but 3 of the 6 literally separated as I examined them and had to be redone entirely. Dried glue had seeped on the rubber soles and leather uppers, which had also been scratched. In some places, the soles hadn't been glued at all! One pair of shoes were completely ruined and had to be discarded on the spot. How difficult can it be for self-described shoe experts to reattach a sole to a shoe?! On the second trip, it took nearly 20 minutes for the front counter to find my order, which had been further damaged. As I examined the shoes, he was very rude and obnoxiously accused me of knowing nothing about shoe repair. I responded by saying the same could be said of him, which spoke even greater volumes, considering the business he's in! He asked me to never bring a pair of shoes in for repair again, and I happily obliged by promising to NEVER return to his establishment AND to warn all other potential customers away. I couldn't even get a refund of the nearly $100 spent on 6 sets of shoes and ultimately had to discard half of them. Talk about horrible customer service! In hindsight, I could have done a better job with Gorilla Glue at less than a tenth of the cost. I would not recommend this unprofessional family-owned business to anyone, and I'm politely cautioning all readers of this review to get your shoe repairs done elsewhere! read more
