8/4/26 -- Extremely disappointing experience, especially as a longtime customer. I made an appointment for American Tire Depot's free comprehensive vehicle inspection. I already knew my car needed work, so I wasn't surprised when the service rep told me there were several issues. What concerned me was how everything was handled afterward. He told me the repairs would cost approximately $3,700 if we did it the "cheap way" and over $5,100 if we did it the "right way." He repeatedly talked about discounts he could give me, told me I was lucky he was helping me because he could give me so many discounts, and mentioned having sisters and understanding how hard things can be. I told him I wanted to speak with my brother-in-law before agreeing to thousands of dollars in repairs. He said that was fine and even offered to speak with him himself. After calling my brother-in-law, I went back inside and asked for a printout of the inspection results and an itemized estimate showing what the $5,100+ actually covered. I've received detailed written estimates from American Tire Depot before, so I didn't think this was an unusual request. While I was waiting in line, the service rep approached me and asked if I wanted to "go for a walk." I was confused but followed him outside, assuming he wanted to show me something on my car. Instead, he continued encouraging me to get the repairs done and asked what my budget was. He said even if I only had around $2,500, he could "make it work" and handle what he could. I again explained that I wanted to review everything with my brother-in-law first and asked for the results and estimate in writing. His demeanor then changed. He told me he couldn't give me a printout because the notes were handwritten. I said I'd take whatever paperwork he could provide. Instead, he told the employee working on my car to put it back together and pull it out, then walked back inside without further addressing me. The only paperwork left in my car was a receipt showing the inspection at $0.00. There were no inspection findings, repair recommendations, or itemized estimate for the $3,700-$5,100+ in work we'd just discussed. The entire interaction didn't sit right with me. Around 6:30 PM that evening, the service rep called to follow up about the repairs and told me his work schedule so I could bring the car back while he was there. I again asked for something in writing showing exactly what I was being asked to pay for. Again, I didn't receive it. Instead, he offered to verbally list the issues while I took notes. I'm not a mechanic, so I was scrambling to write everything down and understand it. If someone is asking me to authorize over $5,000 in repairs, I don't think it's unreasonable to want an itemized written estimate first. The next morning, 8/5, he called again asking when I was coming in. At that point, I told him I was taking my car somewhere else. He asked if it was because of the price and again said he could work with my budget. The money wasn't the issue. If my car genuinely needed $5,000 in repairs, I was prepared to pay for necessary work. My issue was being asked to spend thousands while repeatedly being denied documentation showing exactly what I was paying for. When I explained this, he claimed he had offered to write everything down for me if I wanted it that badly. That was not my experience and was never offered during my visit. He then said I could drive back to the shop and he would write it out for me. By then, I was done. I took my car to another mechanic for a second opinion. They performed a thorough inspection and sent me a digital report with the findings, recommendations, and actual photos/videos of my car showing the problems. They even identified additional issues American Tire Depot hadn't mentioned. I authorized the repairs with the other shop and ultimately paid approximately $4,000 for more work than what I had been discussing with American Tire Depot. That's why I want to emphasize: this was never about avoiding the cost of repairs. It was about transparency. If you're asking a customer to authorize $3,700-$5,100+ in work, they should be able to see in writing what was found and what they're paying for before handing over thousands of dollars. I especially encourage women and anyone who isn't knowledgeable about cars to ask questions, request everything in writing, and get a second opinion before authorizing major repairs. The saddest part is that I had been a loyal American Tire Depot customer for years and regularly purchased my tires here. After this experience, I won't be returning. read more

I had a flat tire while visiting Ramona. Went to a shop around there, but they couldn't seem to know what the issue was. Thought there was a nail in my tire, but they didn't seem to locate anything. Therefore, they put air in my tire and I made sure to drive carefully home. Now something was telling me, the problem isn't fixed. The tire was slowly deflating throughout the week. Finally, I decided to check out American Tire Depot. There was an hour wait due to the shortage of technicians. Service was amazing as Jordan explained to me the process. When service was completed, they did find a small nail in my tire. They had patched it up nicely and I don't have to worry about getting a new tire. This was all done at no cost. These guys are out to get you. They operate as if they have a quota to meet. I've seen them quote an older lady 7k for some racing tires for an old car she bought in. If I'm not mistaken the name was like Capellie. ( SP) not sure if I spelled that right. Then on my BMW they removed the nail before checking if they could patch my tire , to then say I need to purchase one. Thank goodness for run flat tires I went across street got some air and went to another tire shop on Cherry and they plug my tire for $15.00 and I'm fine. I picked up a nail in the tire of my 6-week-old BMW X2, which caused a slow leak over the past few days. When I contacted BMW, the only option offered was a full tire replacement that would have cost around $500 and taken several hours. Fortunately, the advisor suggested I might want to try another option for a repair first. I pass by this American Tire Depot regularly on my way to the 405, so I decided to make an appointment this morning. As soon as I arrived, Jordan greeted me and explained they would first check whether the tire could be patched or plugged before recommending a replacement. He estimated it would take about 30 minutes to an hour -- perfect. About 30 minutes later, Jordan called to let me know the repair was complete and the car was ready for pickup. I had just been enjoying a coffee next door, so I headed back over. That's when Jordan told me the tire had been successfully patched... and there was no charge. No charge?! That almost never happens anymore, especially at a business I had never visited before. I was genuinely blown away by the honesty, professionalism, and outstanding customer service. The service was very friendly and I do feel bad about leaving a bad review however I asked multiple times for the mechanic to check my battery as it was visibly worn and obviously not working. The technicians assured me it was just fine and sent my car home only for it to die immediately after I turned the car off. Ended up having to call AAA and sure enough it was the battery needed to be replaced . I'm unsure how any mechanic could look at this and think it's fine especially because I told them I had needed to jump the car just last week. Honestly, this is the worst American tire depot I've been to. I come here often with all my work vehicles because it's close to my shop. The customer service sucks. They open at 8 which you would think means they start working on your vehicle at 8 but in reality, all the employees get here at 8 and don't work on the vehicle until 20-30 minutes after. I came here yesterday with a leaking tire that they didn't fix, just said I'm good and now I'm back here a day later wasting more of my time. I've been to several other American tire depots and never gave the issues I have here everytime I come. It always takes way longer to do things here and the amount of times I've had to come back a day later because an issue wasn't repaired correctly is insane, at least 4-5 times. This is my last time here, I'll be inconvenienced and go elsewhere just to avoid this place. read more

I visited the shop to have a flat tire repaired--a service that is supposed to be free of charge for customers who purchased their tires here. I dropped the tire off at 3:00 PM and was assisted by an employee who identified "cupping" on the tire. While he informed me they could not perform a rotation, he confirmed they would patch the flat and even provided a quote for rear shock replacements. I was explicitly told the tire would be ready before their 6:00 PM closing time. When I returned at 5:50 PM, I found my tire sitting in the exact same spot inside the shop where it was left in the first place nearly three hours prior. No work had been done, and no one had bothered to call me to explain the delay. It felt as though the staff simply didn't want to perform a complimentary service, despite my history of significant spending at this establishment. Telling a customer a service will be completed and then completely ignoring the task is unacceptable. I value my time, and it is clear that American Tire Depot does not. I had to wait a bit and even considered leaving, but the service advisor I worked with, Jonathan, assured me they would pull my car in right away and move quickly, and they did. Brought the car 8am Saturday first thing when they opened, waited & finally got an update at 0920 saying it was un-patchable & they can order the tire. Waited over an hour for nothing to happen. They ordered the tire (said it would be in Tuesday) & we said we would be there Tuesday 4p. They texted Tuesday am confirming tire was delivered & we called again confirming 4p. Here at 4p, waited & they barely took the car into the bay at 5:15. Didn't finish the car until 6:10, more than 2 hrs waiting. Originally said it would be done in 1-1.5 hrs. I went online a booked a time to get my oil changed. That is the only reason I rolled there because I made an assumption about service. I arrived 20 minutes early and told the guy I would be waiting. He told me, it would take an hour and he would call me. After a half hour after my appointment I could see from a neighboring shop that my car hadn't moved. I am not afraid of work and I do understand that places get busy. When I rolled back to ask about my car, is when I got a 100% slow walk. I went outside to watch and cars that arrived later than mine were pulled into the open bays. I asked how long an oil change would take and they said a half an hour. I could see the smirks as they cruised in and out of the shop. I thought this was attached to the American Tires on Signal Hill, so I was expected direct and real service. I told them, "I booked an appointment' and I was told that is not how it works there. I am pretty easy, they could have said, we will get it into the bay in 5 minutes are really anything, but I could see that I was the 'annoying' or 'entitled' guy. I just asked for my keys and left. This is small stuff but manage expectations. I am not saying I would never go there again, but I would show up early in the morning and lower my expectations. read more

With so many five star reviews here, especially with one coming from our local CM, I thought for sure I would have had a new tire shop to go to, but unfortunately, it was not meant to be. I usually take my car to America's Tire for my tire needs, and one of my tires was in need of repair. The TPMS sensor came on one weekday, and I went to America's Tire after work to get the air pressure checked. I was told that my left rear tire was a little low on PSI and was also recommended to schedule an appointment if the sensor light came on again. It did a few days later, but by the time it came on again, the next time I could schedule an appointment was for Monday since America's Tire is not open on Sundays. While I was searching around for tire shops on Yelp on Sunday morning, I noticed that not only was American Tire Depot open each day of the week, but they also inspect and fix flat tires for free! It sounded too good to be true, but just like a scam, it was, though certainly not in the sense of a stolen identity. I was driving south on Lakewood Blvd and nearly turned into the rear of the shop until I saw it looked like an alleyway that led to somewhere else. So I U-turned and pulled into the lot in front. There was a car sitting by the curb next to the garages, and I really didn't know why that was there. I parked my car at a stall directly across from that car since I figured an employee would drive my car into the shop to further inspect the tires, as is usually the case with America's Tire. I went inside and was immediately greeted and helped by one of the employees. I told him what I was here for, and he immediately cautioned that if they were to patch up my tire, it would void the warranty since I had gotten the tires from somewhere else. He further elaborated on this, and I was convinced that it wasn't worth it to get the tire patched up here; I just had to let the tire further ruin my weekend plans. I was about to leave without having anything done until he offered to do an air pressure check, which I agreed to. He asked me to pull into one of the garages, and I was a little worried that the car sitting by the curb would get in my way while backing out. He immediately retorted back saying there was plenty enough space, calling me out like a dimwitted member of the peasantry. And it didn't end there. When I pulled in, I asked if I needed to stop the engine, and he simply said to park the car while walking away to get a technician to assist me. It didn't even answer the question! But after his flippant response just moments before, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. As I was listening to incredibly loud mariachi music, Raul came by to do the air pressure check on my tires, but asked which tire(s) I wanted him to check. I knew the left rear was bad, but wanted him to check on the right rear to see if that was bad as well. He did inflate the left rear tire so that the TPMS sensor came off, and he also confirmed that the right rear tire was not an issue at all. Raul demonstrated better customer service, but he was asking me if I'd like to have his team take a further look at my tires and remove a nail that could possibly be stuck on the rubber. I just had the discussion with the first employee that convinced me to wait it out another day, but we went back and forth that I think he was trying to get me to get it done now given how low my PSI was. Drawing a hypothetical hyperbolic graph in my head of Air Pressure vs. Miles Driven, I concluded that I should have enough to wait until my appointment the next day. While I'm glad I was able to get my tire inflated to the proper PSI, it was simply adding a bandaid, as opposed to a tire patch. I didn't get a good first impression of American Tire Depot, especially having felt so ridiculed as a customer of a competitor. The caution I was given about having your tires worked at a different place than where you got them further affirmed my learning a lesson to not do business with American Tire Depot anymore, so Henry, when you reply to this review, there's no need to mention the email address as it would do nothing but imply that my review was not read, at least in its entirety.
