    I can't
    Travis S.

So I decided to give this place a try after several yelpers reviewed it. Call me bourgeoisie or whatever I can't again and I won't support a hood spot. Wings=no season and terrible I won't promote the best wing spot in the dmv but I will say it's next door to first watch in bowie lol... I walked in the cashiers were listening to ratchet music and talking about customers voices when they call totally unacceptable. I ordered a grease box 10pc special and I felt like I was taken for the ride. Total disappointment and waste of gas next time I will just pass and go to sleep hungry.

Ten piece buffalo wings were around $8...

I got the hot buffalo wings. The people inside were nice. I thought the wings were pretty darn good! I gave this place 4 stars because I couldn't justify giving wings 5 stars, but they were well-cooked, and they weren't oily! I am happy to drop the 1st review for this place on Yelp, and I'll be back next meek for the Super Bowl!

This was my first and last time trying this place. I ordered online, and once I got there I didn't know which counter to stand at. The cashier was in there with a bonnet on and having a full conversation on her cell phone while attempting to help the customer in front of her. The wings weren't even great. I even paid an extra 55 cents for one ranch and didn't even receive it. Probably because she was preoccupied.

I went to the hood to get wings and failed! ! How is that even possible? I mean the hood is supposed to have great wings and the latest shoes. That's all you can usually find there. And how did I know I was in the hood? All it had was shoe stores, check cashing spots, prepaid phone spots, wing spot, and no bank in sight. Not to mention the not one but two DC dept of housing rodent control trucks. So far DC has disappointed me with wing spots, but I saw the few reviews for here and got hope. So I drive there, and it was easy to find as it is located in Hechinger Mall. They have a parking lot so no worries finding a spot or paying to park. The staff was friendly and the place looked clean. There is not seating inside so everything has to be to-go. The have a clear vibrant menu above as well as flyers with the menu although prices have gone up so the take home flyers aren't accurate anymore. To the food. I spent $11.84 and the best thing I got was the coke. 10 piece wing combo $10.49, extra lemon pepper $0.50, blue cheese $0.25, plastic bag $0.05, tax $1.05. The coke was fine. The blue cheese was hot, I mean think salad dressing or mayonnaise sitting on a hot picnic table in July at a cookout and how awful that would taste. The fries were terrible. They were potato wedges, but were like the kind you get for $1 from the frozen section of dollar tree. It was like someone baked them for 3 mins, then injected each wedge with 1/2 teaspoon of oil. I rarely share food or throw it away. I mean if I eat 70% of a meal and get full, I stuff the other 30% because it's my food, I paid for it with my money, and it shouldn't get wasted. I actually threw these fries away after eating like 5 wedges. I just couldn't do it. As for the wings, oil bath. You know it's bad when your styrofoam box has 1/8 inch layer of grease covering the bottom. Which thus negated the extra lemon pepper because it pretty much just rinse it right off and had all of it trapped in the corner under the grease. Frying chicken 101 says pull the basket out the grease but let it sit for 30 seconds or a minute or so and let all the excess oil drain before seasoning or tossing in sauce. This is an epic fail mistake common at many DC spots. You aint gotta rush slim, let that grease drain off shawty. I should have known better, a wing spot that also sells chicken tenders, whole wings, philly cheese steak, burgers, deli subs, fish, shrimp, and salads, would not have good wings. Jack of all trades, master of none. I would not return here.

    Craving fish and chicken. Lol

These might be americas best wings. I very much recommend the Thai chili and the hot teriyaki wings.

They don't have typical bacon or sausage because "the owners don't eat pork" which really sounds like something more appropriate for their house, and not their restaurant business on Rhode island ave. The "chicken sausage" was a shriveled up piece of chicken paste that they cooked in the microwave. I ordered scrambled eggs, and when they came out, they had that crust that scrambled eggs get when they sit out after being cooked. The grits were lumpy and outside of the cheese sauce they put on the top - had no flavor. The French toast tasted like milk eggs and burnt grill. And the pancakes, were very obviously pre made and microwaved. Additionally - the meal I ordered is listed to come with a bread, eggs, a side and a meat. I asked for bacon, and was told the owners don't eat pork. I asked for the chicken sausage.. 5 minutes later the server asked me if I wanted the sausage spicy or not. Then when she brought the bill, there was a $4 up charge for spicy sausage that she neither told me, nor was it on the menu. And to make matters worse - the sausages were not spicy and were actually just flat out nasty. This is a SAD excuse for a restaurant. I'm sad that I spent calories walking there and dollars eating there.

Speaking of, my daughter ordered the Nutella Stuffed French Toast and rated it a 100/10. While waiting for my order, I had a chance to speak with one of the head chef's and he told me about the culinary program their offer to teach refugees culinary skills. I loved hearing that tidbit about the shop and found it truly admirable. Overall, my only gripe is the street parking situation can be a little tough but it wasn't too bad on this particular morning. I would absolutely return.

About 20 minutes go by and my food was ready. I raced home to eat. The food was good. The whiting was fried and seasoned perfectly. I could have asked for better fish. The greens were delicious. Soft, seasoned and southern. The yams could have been better. They tasted as though they were warmed up and I got the bottom/corner of the pan. My wife had the other whiting platter. She too enjoyed the fish. She had a side of Mac and cheese and rice with vegetables. The rice was good. The Mac and cheese is ok. She was not a fan of velveeta cheese for Mac and cheese and I wasn't either when I tasted mine with the wings below. Lastly I ordererd old bay wings with a side of Mac and cheese and potato salad. The potato salad was far to dry. It was definitely missing something. The wings were seasoned with the right amount of old bay but have tasted a little stale. Overall I had a good experience. I know what I like and what I may not like from here going forward. The whiting is great along with the Mac and cheese. I love a good fish platter. Next time I'll go earlier in the day for sure.
