Wednesday and Friday fish tacos are perfect. Good size fish pieces fried up well. So glad this place is around for my Mexican food fix. And coming from San Diego I was impressed. Only taco shop in Newport and probably the county. Food is fair tasting, i was expecting more flavor like in mexican shops. Customer service is wonderful, especially the guy at the register, he knows the menu. Has 6 tables in total, ample spacing between tables. Has a clean bathroom. No high chairs. Ample parking space. Accepts credit and debit. Ambiance is kinda empty feeling due to the less decorations they have and wide spacing between tables. read more

A simple, small place with a big heart. Service was friendly and the hostess/server was happy to make some suggestions. I went at a busy time and the food arrived hot and fresh. Not authentic by any means, but this place is surely worth a visit. A taco shop near the Canadian border would've been my last guess. It's a short menu, but with good options. The carne asade was just so-so, but the chicken was pretty impressive. The salsas offered a good range and were flavorful. The chips hit it out of the park. We thought about this rating for a few days. This is really a 3.5 star rather than a 4. Vermont is a Mexican desert for some reason, and while we've searched for years have never found anything that had the right flavor profile. It's odd, because certainly the quality ingredients are everywhere, but other than a place in Burlington which while very good suffers from eye-watering prices, we've not found it. So we were really looking forward to trying America's Taco Shop, based on the fab reviews that basically say the same things we did, but had finally found nirvana. We wanted the fish tacos, but it wasn't the right day. We thought the chicken would be most likely to have the least flavor, so avoided that and went with carne asada and shrimp, 2 tacos each, plus a side of guacamole. We were asked to choose a salsa, and both choose the green. The beef, while certainly tender and of high quality, was missing any char or really any flavor. It was uniformly grey and appeared to have been cooked too close together in the pan so it essentially boiled. Thank goodness the salsa was delish, because it needed to carry a lot of weight. The shrimp did have much better flavor to begin with, and would be the far better choice based on our experience. We went in expecting a lot, and didn't get it. It is Vermont, and we should know better. It's not fair, and very likely had we come later in the week we'd have had made a better choice with the fish taco... On paper, that had baja goodness written all over it. It's also pretty much the only game in town for an early week lunch with all the fallout from COVID, unless you want the fast food giants. Faced with the same choices, we'd come again, but it is not knock your socks off goodness by any stretch. read more

Vegans rejoice! This little shop cranks out the best Mexican food I have ever had in VT! As a vegan I do not expect restaurants to accommodate my dietary restrictions unless they actively advertise as such, so when my mom invited me to lunch (she goes every week for the fish tacos) I went with the mindset that I would be satisfied with with chips and guacamole. However, once inquiring about possible options I could eat the girl at the counter went above and beyond, helping me to craft a vegan burrito and even checking with the kitchen multiple times to make sure the components didn't have meat or dairy. The chips/guacamole combo alone was absolutely amazing and the burrito she came up with (flour tortilla with beans, sautéed onions and peppers, lettuce and green salsa) completely hit the spot. We went on a weekday around lunch time and it was pretty quiet, there are about 4-5 tables for dine in and plenty of parking. Will definitely return in the future! read more

The taco shop is small but they sure can cook some meals. The place is real Mexican food and they cook it well. My takeout was a taco and fries and the fries were a little soggy but that just because of takeout. They have good guacamole and salsa(although it's a tangy) and the tacos are small but are different good. They have a crisp outside and chicken or beef on the inside. It's also has cheese and lettuce spreader on top I do recommend this place as it's a good Mexican place in the area. read more

We are from the South, but have been living in Maine for 8 years and we have felt the absolute lack of good Mexican food in New England. We were on a leaf peeping expedition a year or so ago in the Northern Kingdom of Vermont and were getting hungry. We were headed for some fast food just to get fed quick and be on our way. We passed America's Taco Shop and actually laughed about the fact that here in Derby Center, VT was a shop that had the audacity to call itself by this name. We were Yeah, Right! They are obviously playing on the fact that they don't have any competition and nobody here would know better. BUT, for some reason, we decided to give it a try and boy!, we are glad we did! This was not only mexican food, this was MEXICAN FOOD! IT WAS GREAT! We loved it! We came back the next day, TWICE! We have been back several times, having visited the Northern Kingdom and it has always been very good food. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the owners are exceptional. We live on the coast in Maine so this is not exactly an easy trip for us, taking several hours of driving to get there. We try to plan quick getaway for the weekend trips around the area of the Northern Kingdom mainly so we can go and eat here! Planning a trip this weekend for the main purpose of eating at this restaurant. The food is on par with any food we have had anywhere and we have eaten Mexican all across the South, Texas, Arizona...and Mexico. It's good stuff and to find this nearly in Canada...AWESOME! read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! I've only been here once but it was clean, good food, and friendly staff! About 15 months ago I moved back from Arizona after developing a love of Mexican food, and the hardest part was not having the real stuff back home in Vermont. My first visit I ordered 3 burritos and my family ordered burritos, quesdilla, and taquitos. We all enjoyed our meals and even got awesome chips and salsa! Loved this spot! Easy to get to right off the main road with a nice big non crowded parking lot. Very clean seating with a mega tv to watch. Ordered food from the counter from a single sided menu with plenty of options yet not overwhelming. Person who took our order was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered a carne Asada w/ steak, rice, beans. Originally would've been a burrito but they didn't have corn tortillas (gluten free...) so I asked to have it as a bowl and they were more than happy to do so. Btw their drink cooler had my favorite, jarritos grapefruit soda so I was already stoked. After we sat at a table I wait for our food the women brought a bowl of fresh homemade chips and mild green salsa that was amazing... I don't know if the chips were gf or not, I didn't ask I just ate because they smelt and looked so good ( i can get away with some gluten products here there). It wasn't long until our food came out, amazing! Delicious seasoned steak over fresh Spanish rice w/ beans and avocado sauce and sour cream drizzled on top, mild salsa as ordered on the side. Tons of food with tons of flavor, Came in a Togo container but I ate the whole thing. If you're in the mood for some quality food I definitely recommend this spot! read more

Wonderful mexican fast food just a mile from the Canadian border. The staff instantly recognized us as new to the restaurant (this is a really small town).
