Totally annoyed and will be changing to another provider. I understand potential delays due to COVID as their excuse, but over 6 weeks to get a delivery, with the last 2 weeks on hold for over a 1/2 hour each time I called every day. Each time a promise of a delivery that day, with of course a no show. Spent one day on the phone waiting over an hour to speak to a "supervisor", to be told the 6 week delay is due to COVID. Sorry but they have had 9 months to figure out how to run a business during COVID, especially a business supplying heating fuel to homes in the winter. We are down to 0% on the tank, and I've told them each time I called my wife is not in good health with some immune deficiency and heat is mandatory for her health. Every time they would come to refill my tank I would always pay in advance the amount of propane I wanted. They would always supposedly put in more galling than what I requested and paid for and always ended up sending me an extra bill. I finally decided to change to pacific propane which costs less. We mailed them a letter over a month ago to notify them to terminate our service with them and come pick up their tank. Tank is still sitting outside. I just called and they say they never received any letter and that they are going to charge me over $50 if they come pick up their tank. This company is ridiculous, always making things up to take your money. If you decide to go with this company you are going to constantly pay more than you should in one way or another. Pretty much one of the wackest companies I have dealt with within the last 10 years of my life. They lack a sense of caring for their customers. Some customers live in areas that get cold at night and to just have hot water is a blessing. I have been waiting for almost 1 month, I have called at least 10 times, tank is at like 1%. I can't even get anyone to come here, but my appointment has been scheduled for this long. I personally wouldn't recommend this company to anyone, I just don't have any other options. I moved into my new place 3 weeks ago, and into my 2nd week, I set up an account with Amerigas, and I was given a quote and a monthly payment amount based on ibcome and credit. The rep on the phone said I was all set up, and I should expect a call within the week to set up a delivery time, so I can be present. The call did not come, so I called again today, figuring I was merely scheduling delivery. However, even though they had an account, they still required a whole new account set up, the quote I was given was $70 higher than the previous week, , and I needed to prepay $270, and there was suddenly no monthly pay program. The lazy, disinterested rep was not concerned with what I expected. Confused by the contradictions in pricing and lack of communication, I decided to look elsewhere. Called them out this morning to figure out why was my propane not delivered which by the way already paid for. I ask them If they can deliver it today. This is what they said. Today is February 7, 2022 and I called @ 9:15am PST. As I'm writing this, I have been on hold for 17:07, I was placed on hold by Tiana when after I explained why I'm calling, said "let me check with customer service and get back to you". First, is there a difference between Amerigas customer service and customer experience advocate? Because truth to tell, neither one understands what either of those term seem to mean. So far Tiana has yet to come back on the line to update me on what is going on. This is yet another example of the type of service / advocacy we've received from Amerigas Customer Service / Advocate personnel. Back on December 9th it was determined that we needed a new valve, but the tank had too much propane and needed to be below 5% in order for the technician to replace the valve. We placed an order for propane on December 31st when we got to 5% and received a text message on January 3rd letting us know that you have our order and are working to deliver propane to us. No one showed up and we didn't receive any further updates. We called on January 13th to find out what happened. Somehow our order got cancelled and Elizabeth couldn't explain why she then stated that she would put in an order for us for the valve replacement and propane. January 19th we called since you still hadn't serviced our tank, and spoke to Maynard who said Elizabeth never put in the order and he would put it under emergency status so that someone will be out within 24 hours we ensured he also placed the valve replacement on the account for the technician and he stated that he would and for us not to worry. January 21st technician came out and apologized because his work order had nothing on there regarding the valve replacement and he didn't have one so he couldn't replace it. He did fill our tank to 10% though so we could have some heat and hot water (which we had been limiting to the extreme due to not having much propane). Technician came back out on January 25th but we had too much propane in the tank still and he couldn't replace the valve. January 31st we were down to 5% so we called and spoke with Kelli who stated she put in a request. Here we are now February 7th and we have again been limiting heat and hot water since the order has once again somehow vanished and I'm called to try and place an order on the phone since the tank is at 3% and I can't do that online. 35:09 I've been on hold now and I'm guessing I've been placed on permanent hold and no one will ever be picking the line back up. Oh lovely, I've gone from hold straight to the after call survey. I told you I was on the forgotten "hold" option where they wait for me to hang up and since I didn't they ended the call after 42 minutes of hold time. What a shame that the company can't seem to get people who actually can / want to do their job. You know the thing they pay them for. How hard is it to enter in a request? Maybe everyone ones needs to be retrained on how to actually do their jobs. So we have to suffer a freezing cold house and tepid showers because their personnel don't feel like doing their job. It's been in the 20's overnight for weeks now and we've had to purchase several space heaters just to try and stay somewhat warm (appreciate the additional out of pocket expense we've been forced to take on). Also, a big thank you to Amerigas for our increased electric bill. It's so nice to see how customer centric that company is. read more

It is 48 degrees outside and I have been out of propane for 4 days. When I call, the operators are very nice and promise delivery the next day, but the driver doesn't show. On my regular delivery date, he claimed my driveway was icy, and not plowed. Therefore refused to deliver. I live in a redwood forest in the Santa Cruz mountains. We get rain, but in the 45 years I have lived here no ice. I have a paved driveway. I walked the driveway to see what he was talking about and it was wet from rain, but no ice. I think the driver has no business delivering in the Santa Cruz Mountains if he is afraid to deliver during rainy weather. On the 4th day, I was promised a delivery between 6:00 PM and 7 PM. There was no rain that day and my driveway was dry. It is dark at that time, so I sat in my car at the tank to provide light. I waited till 7:30 and he didn't show. My hot water system, stove, and furnace run on propane. I have been a customer since 2007. I plan to cancel service. If they don't deliver, what is the point of paying for this service. read more

I would NOT recommend AMERIGAS. We purchased a home in October 2014. The propane was supplied by AMERIGAS to the prior owners. The tank was over half full. AMERIGAS came by unannounced in November and disconnected the gas. They didn't even ask if we wanted to sign up for their service. So we contracted with another provider. Their tank has been sitting on our property and its nearly May. We have contacted them several times to remove their tank but despite their promises, the tank remains. We think they owe us rent and the value of the propane in the tank since it was paid for by the prior owners and was included in the personal property acquired when we bought the home. Unfortunately, we are now pursuing legal action to resolve the matter. read more

I'm not sure what the exact issue with Amerigas could be, but the poor delivery to their customers is across the country. Checkout ConsumerAffairs, and look for Amerigas. Some customers have been out for weeks. We've been out for over five days, with not hope in sight. I've even called Jimmy Panetta in Washington, D.C. We have, like another, a 93 year old parent, and are about to go out and buy a back up space heater. I have called four different days and been promised delivery, but nothing. Lots of time on the phone, just waiting. Thank you to everyone that is making their issue known. It is only through this kind of communication that we can maybe get them to listen. I'm also going to call them at their corporate offices. This should be illegal, violating not only the trust of your customers, but then stonewalling them, misleading them and just lying to them. I had to wait 9 weeks for a refill and I made four calls and of those four calls I received three different sales people who said my sales call was coming but that they had reset and started me on a new account which they did not need to do. Amerigas has just taken over the old Coast Gas out of Watsonville. They came to my house today to pick up my old propane tanks that should have been removed by Coast Gas in January when I cancelled my service. The two men who came out were professional, courteous, and took great care to remove the second tank with a creative solution that spared my irrigation pipe that ran below the tank and was at risk of being broken if they were not careful. Charles and Eric (Erik?) were both great. With this level of customer service, there might be hope for the Coast Gas employees who stayed on. Good luck Amerigas! read more

I recently discovered my propane tank was low, nearly empty and i immediately ordered gas. This was last Friday. Since I was worried that I might run out today (Monday) I called Amerigas back and talked with Grace. She was very understanding and helpful. She assured me that I was scheduled, then called me back after talking with the driver. A few minutes later the driver, Martin called me. He said that he would bring my fill-up today and he did so. Unreliable, I have a business account with them that is "AUTOMATIC" have not received any deliveries since September of 2020!!! Have called multiple times to schedule deliveries, amerigas representative tells me the delivery is scheduled, but NEVER arrives. I have even called more than 10 times and it is always HOURS on hold. It's been 6 days of freezing temperatures in my house - 50 degrees this morning. My propane tank refill was scheduled for November 26, and it is now Dec 29 with my tank empty for 6 days. I have called many times (the musac is horrible!) and first I was told I was on "expedited" delivery and yesterday I was told I was on emergency delivery for this morning - but still no sign of anyone! HORRIBLE. Amerigas has gone completely downhill with their customer service. I have been a customer for a few years, using their services at our current home in Half Moon Bay, CA. Over the past 6 months I noticed they closed their local offices and only have a call center where a "ticket" is submitted to their service department, leaving the customer to wait for the service department to call them with no option for the customer to be directly connected to them. I have been waiting a month now for a tank replacement and propane refill, and have called every single week for an update only for a representative to tell me each time that they see no available service technicians and that they will "escalate" my ticket. It has been A MONTH and still no phone call or service. I am happy to be ending my contract early to never have to deal with this company again. read more

I would give this company negative stars if I could. Hours on hold. I ordered gas and paid $200 for a 24-72 hour delivery. No delivery. No communication. I called customer service multiple times and spent over an hour waiting on several occasions. 10 days later still no gas. This is a terrible company. Then after looking out the window at that ugly rusty tank while waiting on the phone to find out why my last payment didn't post, I decided to move on to another company. I work at an agency that serves people 60 years and older. We provide advocacy and information on community resources. We received a call from State Assembly Member, Mark Stone's office regarding an older couple who ran out of propane and could not get a delivery from Amerigas. After numerous calls to Amerigas, being told a delivery would be made more than once and no one showing up, the customers finally called their state and local representatives to see if they could get some help. A resource counselor at the agency was assigned the case and was unable to speak to anyone at Amerigas after several calls and over 30 minutes on hold each time. This is unacceptable and terrible business practices. Our agency is recommending these customers switch companies as this seems to be their only recourse. read more

Amerigas is a nightmare propane provider. Their prices are a moving target and inconsistent. For years and years we've paid more than twice the going rate in the San Lorenzo Valley. We originally were served by Coast Gas which was bought by Amerigas. Propane coop groups now exist for community pricing which generally is closer to $2/gallon than the $4+ charged by Royal Oaks Amerigas. Amerigas even promised us "community pricing" at about $3.60/gallon before we figured out even that was a scam. Rumor suggests these pricing scams are a result of the Royal Oaks manager who is subject to bonuses. A truly despicable company. When we ran out yesterday (Feb 12, 2019) we were told that since we had not called previously to order when the tank hit 30 per cent we would have to wait TEN business days (2 weeks at least) before we could get propane in the middle of winter. No hot water, no heat. Last week our tank was at 20 per cent and we were about to order, as has been our custom for the last 34 years. The tank went from 20 per cent to 5 per cent in a week and from, according to Amerigas' sensor, to empty in one night. There has never been a problem with a same day or next day delivery in the past but Amerigas wants to charge us $250.00 for an "emergency" service, something else that's never happened to us. Look at the reviews...dreadful for what is, in effect, a monopoly that controls an essential heating source. read more

Been without gas for over a week I requested propane even though we are on an automated scheduled service because we were low, no response, ran out of propane. I have been on various rounds of hold totaling over 6 hours. I have been given 3 different days where someone needs to home, still no delivery, and I am on hold again. I have sent a series of emails always with an auto response and nothing to follow. It is unacceptable to leave families without heat and hot water. The website gives no information and the phone system is a shambles. After reading other posts I wonder, It is time for a class action lawsuit? read more

Their prices jumped for "winter" cost from $2.43 a gallon to $4.99 a gallon. I can't say enough how much I HATE this company. Whenever my gas is low they take their sweet time getting around to filling my tank. They do this on purpose in the hopes that your tank will read 0 and then they can charge you a bunch of fees for pressure tests and checking the pilot lights and relighting them for you. I changed to Ferrell Gas in April and because my Amerigas tank has no valve to transfer the gas to the new tank, Ferrell had to come out and put a hose on the Amerigas tank to directly transfer the gas out of the tank. It has taken 4 months for me to use 25 gallons and the tank has been empty now for a month. I have been calling Amerigas for weeks trying to get them to come get their EMPTY tank. They are supposed to come get it in 2 days...we'll see. I have no trust that they will keep their word! If they do not come get their tank I will have it magically disappear! read more

Amerigas has a long history of poor service and worse communication from the office. They charge higher than market prices for their propane. However, I must say the service technicians are very nice and follow what the office tells them but often it s incorrect or lacking information. I have run out of propane at least between 2-3 times a winter. I am older and disabled this is my only heat. When I've called for help and service it is clear that I am just a bother to the staff. Ultimately, I have been put on monthly delivery which didn't work, then they put on a gauge so they could see the tank percentage from the office, that now doesn't work. December 11, 2018 I ran out of gas and requested assistance from the office. The woman did not offer help only it would be delivered sometime that day. I insisted on speaking with a supervisor who could assist me in the delivery. I received a call and the delivery was expedited. The tank was fully filled and the gauge worked. December 18 someone came out and put more gas in the tank. This was not requested nor necessary. I was charged for this and the Hazmat fee and the tax. December 26 someone came out and to put more gas in the tank. This was not requested nor necessary. However, the gauge was broken on this check the service tech tried putting gas in the tank to see if it was empty. It was nearly full. I was charged again as before for the delivery. I was told someone would come out to change or fix the gauge. December 27 I spoke with a representative on the phone about the gauge. I informed the woman of my situation and the extra charges that were unnecessary. She offered a 50 dollar coupon and said someone would come out the next day between 8-12 to fix it. December 28 The service technician called at 12:15 telling me he was running late. I spoke with him and he said he didn't have the equipment to fix the gauge. It was clear he was not told the problem. He said they would call and set up a appointment to fix it. I have sent two emails to the company about the situation. The extra charges were removed and I was told that it would be fixed. It is January the 13th 2019 and the gauge has not been fixed, I have received no calls to set a appointment, however they keep calling weekly to say they are coming to deliver gas. I have asked twice for help from the tech who calls and twice I still have not heard a response. I am unclear why a big company like this provides such bad service to the community it is serving.
