DO NOT sign on with Amerigas. Period. When they were Coast, they were great. Don't know what has happened, but they very clearly don't care about their customers. After 2 years with them, I have have had to call for a fill up EVERY TIME, even though we're on the auto fill program. They don't show up until we're on fumes, but this time, they went even farther. I called for a fill on 12/28. Told them we were very low and needed a delivery right away. I was promised 12/31. No show. We ran out of gas. Office closed for the the New Year, then the weekend. Called first thing Monday 1/4, (always, on hold for 30+ minutes, BTW). They apologize profusely, and take my number to call back with a delivery time, assuring me that someone will come, before dark, with a "splash" to hold us over until they can get here. No call, no show. We've been without heat for SIX DAYS! This is our only source of heat, and I told them that more than once. I've contracted with a new company, who's on their way. They told me that Amerigas is doing this to thousands of customers, right now. Drivers walking off the job. Sounds like all hell is breaking loose over there. We purchased a new house and moved in August 1st. The previous owners used Amerigas for their propane needs. I called them and was quoted their costs for propane and they were much more expensive then their competitors. Previous to this, I had called several times, was put on hold for more than 1/2 hour each time. Because of pure frustration, in getting hold of them, and comparing other companies prices, I called and after many tries was able to tell them that I would be using another company for propane. I asked that the tank be removed. They sent someone out...oh big surprise they did not have the right truck to do the job. They knew we had a 1/2 full tank...they had been servicing it for the past several years. The new company we chose to work with was Dassell's , they came with a big crane, removed the Amerigas tank and put it outside our gate for easy pick-up. Then put a new tank in. My husband called Amerigas and they said they would be out by August 19th to pick up the tank. It is now October 20th and the tank is still sitting in my front yard. It looks terrible, but more than that...my instincts were right. If you can't answer your phone and be responsive to customers and cannot deliver...maybe you should not be in business. My advice to anyone who needs propane services...DO NOT USE AMERIGAS! read more

The worst. If you are getting Propane set up at your house do not use Amerigas. We have had continual problems since Amerigas took over for Coast Gas. They take a long time to come out after you call. I continue to say this wouldn't be a problem if we had automatic refill which would include them having access to withdraw whatever they wanted to charge from our account. In addition, when we order and prepay for a specific amount of gas we will later receive a bill for the 'extra' that the driver put in because 'the driver can't always control how much goes in the tank.' One star only because I can't give less. I've lived in the mountains for 40 years. Always with a propane tank. I never had any problems until I became an Amerigas customer. The never show up. My tank is constantly running out of gas. The don't return calls. They don't even answer their phone. Most recently we ran out of gas (they're supposed to come by on a regular basis but don't) I had to call the national line because the local office won't answer the phone. No one called back. No one came. I told them there were two babies in the freezing cold house. They don't care. No heat over Christmas. Thanks Amerigas, I hate you. So we finally called another company who came the next day, switched out our tanks, filled us up, all at a much lower price. This company is a ripoff and will lie directly to your face. I recently ordered propane and was given a price that was twice the national average and over $2.00 per gallon more than other local propane companies. I was told that price was the "market price." Almost out of propane, I had no choice but to go ahead with the purchase. After responding to a post-purchase survey, I was contacted by the company and was told that the price was so high because I did not buy enough annually to qualify for a reasonable price! I guess Amerigas view conservation and energy efficiency as punishment for their consumers. Of course, I was never told of this policy nor is it anywhere in their documentation. Amerigas brings a corporate mentality to their customer service. If you love AT&T and the big banks you're going to love this place as well. Recently I returned from international travel to find the tank at my residence running low. Not a problem, or so I thought. I placed a call and it was straight to voice mail hell. Since this was rather urgent I decided to hold, 32 minutes later someone finally picked up the phone. I purchased a tank of gas, explained the situation and asked when I could expect service. Their rep told me that they don't have that information, but that they would pass it along to the service department. several days go by and the gauge is getting lower and lower, I decide to call back and explain the urgency. This time it was 30 minutes on hold. Again I explained the situation. The rep again said that they would have to contract the service department, This time I requested they do so and inform me when the service would take place. In the end they told me I could expect it in the next 1-10 days. That's actually not a typo, They said 1 to 10 days! The whole situation was surreal, It was like dealing with AT&T or one of the other most hated big companies in America. However here the solution was painless, I called a local company (Dassel's) arranged for them to provide a tank and service it regularly. They picked up the phone immediately, set me up with the required paperwork and they were less expensive to boot! Then I called Amerigas back to cancel the outstanding order, cancel the account and arrange for them to pick up their tank. They wanted to know why! Don't even think of doing business with them! The customer service operators are not helpful, the service is average at best. The call center in Watsonville puts me on hold for 20 minutes and then hangs up. It was not my choice to be an Amerigas customer they took over from Coast Gas Northern Energy. I have been a customer since 2004 and the previous owners of my house since 1980. I agreed with Amerigas that I would leave a check for 125 gallons on the tank (as I have done for 10 years) today the policy has changed and I have to give them my social security number over the phone and apply for credit? 10 years a valued customer and I was not treated like a valued customer. I had to consult the Manager and "just this one time" we will accept the check on the tank. I am sure Amerigas does not need me as a customer, they must have plenty (if they said that I would have given 2 stars for honesty) but what I see on other Yelps they must not need any customers. After this delivery I will call Amerigas and talk with management and try to work it out and I will update this review. Personally I am in customer service and to have this many poor reviews would concern me greatly. Several years ago, Amerigas bought out the local Coast Gas Co, and automatically took over my account. Their propane prices went through the roof. There was no monitoring of the tank - mine ran dry at least once a year. Last year at this time, the tank ran dry, and Amerigas charged me $4.35 a gallon for propane, plus a bunch of fees. I paid $1194 for that visit. Today, we were out of propane. No heat, no hot water. I called the local number, and a recording said no one could help me at this time. No explanation, no place to leave a message, just the recording saying no one was available. I called the 800 number, which gave me a phone tree with only 3 options - 1) billing, 2) locate a nearby office, or 3) emergency (call your local fire department was the result of this one). I tried all these options, trying to reach a person. Billing (go figure) had actual people to talk to me. I explained the problem to billing, and the woman transferred me to the local office - which rang through to an out of service number and hung up on me. I called back and selected billing again, because at least this was someone I could actually talk to about the problem. I was told that the local office was busy, and that the previous billing person I had spoken to had made a note of the fact that I was out of propane, and sometime today someone would call me. That was it. No word on when someone might get here. No word that someone WOULD get here at all. No further help. A friend of mine recommended Pacific Propane, so I called them. In under two hours of my call, I had a new 250 gallon tank with a sensor on it, 250 gallons of propane, and all of my appliances checked - for $485. Less than half of what Amerigas charged me just for propane. Today is the very first day of Pacific Propane for me, but I am already so thrilled with their customer service and price of their propane (1.99 a gallon). Good bye Amerigas! read more

I have been a good customer for 20 years and now they have lied and treated me with such disrespect I am going to have them leave my tank empty so I can switch companies and I'll sit in the cold for a couple of weeks until that can be arranged. I've been sitting in the cold anyway for a few days so what is a couple more weeks. We are out of propane and when I woke up it was 58 degrees in my house and still no propane! I was scheduled for my auto delivery a month ago and I realized 2 weeks ago no one came. We looked and we were at 15% so we called. They said a delivery was set for the next week and no one came. We were then at 5%. They assured us someone would come yesterday. We saw the Amerigas truck drive right by our house and no delivery. I called today and they said they can not get hold of the delivery scheduler but it should be some time this week. I asked to speak with the scheduler and they said I couldn't. If I could could give a "minus" star review I would. I have had the misfortune of dealing with this company for six years and have given them many second chances. For a time I was on a delivery plan that was rarely adhered to. For example, I was scheduled one year to have my propane tank filled on October 1st, but (after numerous calls) received my propane after Thanksgiving. I always ask to receive my last fill-up of the year no later than March 31st (I only use propane for heat) but every year they sneak another un-asked for delivery during the summer. Today it happened again. I specifically called the company last week to request my next delivery for November 1st. When I moved into my home eight years ago, I was told that this company was the only one in town that would deliver to my location. I live in the Santa Cruz mountains. Fortunately, I have found another company that comes highly recommended by my neighbors and I'm having my tank removed in the next couple weeks and look forward to a much better relationship with this new company. read more

I always had an idea that AmeriGas was expensive, but their tank came with the house and they were competent with deliveries, so I dealt with it. In the summer of '13, my neighbor switched to a competitor and showed me his new bill. I switched, myself, and had their tank replaced. The national service representative was courteous (the local office was momentarily unavailable, so the call forwarded). They promised to remove the old AmeriGas tank within 4 weeks. It took several months. In the Fall of '14, I received a bill for tank rent. Obviously, they had not closed my account properly. I had to call to have the bill canceled. I again requested they properly close my account. Again, the service representative (local, this time) was courteous. In the Fall of '15, I received another bill for tank rent. This time, I sent a certified letter demanding charge reversal and written confirmation of account closure. They did reverse the bill. However, there has not been any further communication regarding account closure. read more

I've had this provider since 2005... or should probably say they've had me. I recently reviewed my bills, and talked to neighbors about their providers. Have switched to a local company. I wouldn't recommend AmeriGas to my worst enemy. I don't believe in cruel and unusual punishment. On my last bill, they charged me almost $6/gal. I called some competitors here and asked their average price/gal over the past year. Both were below $3. I called AmeriGas back and explained this, and after some sputtering and incoherence by the person on the phone, I was given a $25 credit and roughly $70 of my bill right on the spot. "Generously" lowering my cost to about $5/gal. That was enough for me. I'd thought about going back through 14 years of bills to get an accurate picture of what corporate gouging really looks like, but decided to move on and be grateful that I (finally) saw the light. Of course, a final blow and parting shot... They want $59 to come and pick up THEIR tank. Absolutely DO NOT sign on with these bloodsuckers! Consider yourself forewarned. read more

We have been getting propane from them for 17 years. They fill up our tank when it gets low. We ran out of propane on Friday and it showed online for a month that they where going to bring more. We called them Monday morning and they said sorry they made a mistake and said we were an Emergency and we would get gas within 24 hours. Everyday we called. Sometimes 3 times a day. Wait times are 30-60 minutes and you can't talk to a manger. Finally by Wednesday night my wife tracked down a driver on the side of the road and begged him to come to our house. 5 days with no heat or hot water or being able to cook in the winter is not fun. He was nice enough to come over. But, this will be our last tank with them. They never called us or answered our emails. Something happened to this company. They are no longer family friendly. Last year they even ran over my mailbox. But they did pay me for it. The drivers are nice. But it is now very unorganized and very unfriendly. read more

Called today they told me two weeks and they had the nerve to try and charge me $59.95 to pick up there tank. So let me get this right they have horrible service charge outrageous prices. My review is purely on price and I am at fault for not checking prices years ago. Our range/oven, dryer, water heater and heater all run on propane. We were paying $4.85 a gallon for propane from Amerigas on our last bill. A year ago we started to notice our bills move from $400 to $689 to fill our tank. Finally I called around and found Pacific Propane and talked to the rep there. He has been with the company for nine years and told me their price never went above $3.09 during the peak of winter. They offered us $1.79 as an initial offer and that the price would go up over $2.00/gal after. They installed the new tank and made sure it was level (informed us the Amerigas tank was rusty and not level), transferred the old propane to the new tank and said they would contact Amerigas to let them know we were done. Pacific Propane also has a computer attached to the tank which tells them when they need to fill. Amerigas doesn't add any additional service that would make me consider paying so much more for propane, I cannot recommend their business and I can only speculate that the price of their gas is increasing to cover the cost of lost customers. I can not recoup monies lost to their price gouging, but I am glad I found a reasonable company. read more

I guess no one from Amerigas reads these reviews since their company is horrible as is quite evident from all the one star reviews. We have now been out of propane for four days, so no hot water, no heater, no stove, no oven... thankfully we still have water, some camping equipment to cook and heat up water, and a small electric space heater! They were supposed to come out for a delivery on Friday 12/11, the delivery guy left a message and we promptly returned his call, but he never got back to us. I called Monday morning to see if we could get someone to come out and the customer service rep said she would message the delivery guy, making us a priority since we were completely out of propane, but no delivery and not even a call. I called Tuesday morning and talked to another rep who said we were on the delivery schedule for the day and the guy should be out to our house for a delivery in 45 minutes. 3 hours later, we are still waiting for the delivery guy to show up. What the hell is wrong with this company? Is it ok if our payment is four days late?? As soon as we get this delivery, we'll be looking for another company. Amerigas is the most recent company to purchase this location and I am very happy with them! I have been through quite a few different providers over the years. Every time it changes hands, I have worried about how I will be treated by yet another company. I am happy to say that out of all them, Amerigas has treated me the best. The office staff have taken time to explain how everything works with their billing. I am treated well each time I go in. Everyone there is friendly and upbeat. I am very disappointed in the service or lack there of by Amerigas. I have used propane for the last 15+ years. My old provider was bought by Amerigas. in 14 years I never ran out of gas the delivery person was wonderful. In the last year I have ran out of gas 4 times (each and every time) it was always an inconvenience to wait for delivery and have everything lighted. But this time on a Sunday while cooking a large dinner for (8) family and friends NO GAS. I waited for nearly 4 hours for a delivery and neighbor came and picked up the chickens to finish for me. Ended up with Pizza that my friends kindly provided. The part that really bothers me is that they gave me $25 off my bill for the inconvenience ! What about the cost of the food! Time! read more

I have had numerous issues with Amerigas in what seems to be many departments (e.g. Billing, delivery, customer service). One example, I ran out of propane and called for delivery. I paid the $150 fee to have same day delivery and the driver came out on time and delivered a small amount of propane to get me going. However, when he was there he noticed that the tank had been locked off. I asked why and he said that the other driver must have locked it off when he was there. So, another driver came out, looked at my tank, saw it was empty, locked it off and then left without giving me any notice of what he had done. Wow. Then, two days later, when another driver returned to give me the remainder of my delivery, he locked off my tank and wrote on the ticket that the tank was empty. The tank was 30% full according to the gage. I called customer service and they informed me that they "might" be able to get to me tonight and that there would be a $150 fee. I'm sorry, what in the what now? I am significantly disappointed in the capability, communication and overall service of this organization. Amerigas has let my home tank run out twice in the past year, then they act like they are doing you a big favor by coming out and filling your tank after they let it go. I was a customer for years with no problems when the office was in Scotts Valley. I use nearly zero propane during the warm months and much more for my furnace in winter so my payments were averaged over the year. Once Amerigas moved to Royal Oaks, everything changed. My next to the last tank cost me roughly $400 for 200 gallons as it had for quite some time. I paid cash since I was told I was no longer eligible for the averaging program since I had made a late payment,since, I'd never received an invoice--NO EXCUSES!! It wasn't that inconvenient and they arrived when called to fill my tank the following time, leaving me a bill for over $800!!!!!I assumed this was an error but could get no explanation when I called their office. Or wrote their office three times- Or wrote to their corporate office--Not one word. What a colossal rip off! As of today I've been sent to collection. There must be a utilities commission, better business bureau or somewhere to complain- I went with Dassel for half the price and courteous service .Since i have to post a rating I gave them one star however they deserve way less than zero stars. I own a house with an apartment that has it's own propane tank, and my tenant moved out and cancelled her service with Amerigas. The new tenant went with a different company and we waited and waited.... and waited for Amerigas to come get their tank. I called them over and over again requesting they come get it, and they kept wanting to CHARGE ME a fee to get their tank! What the heck? After more than 6 months, I finally wrote them a letter saying I was going to charge them rent for storage of their tank on my property and if the did not come get it within 60 days, I would consider the property abandoned and sell it to a recycler. What a rip-off! We used to have Coast gas before Amerigas took over. I had a fill-up last month and was charged over $3/gal. I called them and they adjusted the bill to a more competitive rate after much complaining. I had another fill-up this week and again, it was $3.11/gal. My neighbors just had a fill-up from Ferrill at $1.50/gal and another neighbor had a fill-up from Kamps at $1.60/gal. Seriously? Double? I called to complain and Carol basically said "Oh well". I said that I would look at changing and she said "just call when you want to be discontinued." And yet they had the nerve to leave a sticky note on my tank fill notice saying "Complete satisfaction is our goal. We strive for a 10." Seriously? I give a 10 to the delivery guys and a ZERO to the office staff and company in general. I am switching very, very soon. read more

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND QUALITY/SAFETY!!! The phone message when you are put on hold at Amerigas states" customer service and safety is our priority". Nothing could be further from the truth!!! The customer service is PATHETIC!!!. I have had to take three days off of work and STILL haven't gotten a six-month old issue resolved. Six months ago I took a day off so that they could replace our existing rental tank which was rusted and deemed "unsafe" by a previous technician coming to fill the tank. Due to coordination issues the existing tank got filled by one driver three hours before the replacement tank showed up. I was then told to call when the tank reached 5 %. I scheduled the tank change for this past Wednesday and was promised an 8-10 service window. At 11 am I called, (and after being on hold for 15 minutes) spoke to someone who said that a technician would be there by 1 pm. They were running late. At 3:30 I called back and the representative said the technician had called in sick and they would send someone out to bring 25 gallons of propane so we wouldn't run out, but the tank change would have to be rescheduled for another day. The person who came with a temporary tank showed up at 4:55 pm. My entire day was wasted on the phone with these guys. To make matters worse, the pilot light on the water heater now will not stay on and I am home from work yet another day on the phone with the incompetent customer service reps arranging service. They had the nerve to suggest that the problem was my water heater, which worked fine before they came out, and abruptly stopped working after they turned the gas off. The customer service is PATHETIC! I'm sure I stated this throughout my review, but I cannot emphasize it enough!!! I have lost three days of vacation time from work accommodating these bozos. I still have an old rusty tank and no hot water- and at this rate I'm sure I will be taking more days off in the future. read more

I want to warn all customers before giving a credit card number to this company. I have paid through their online portal as a one time payment once or twice. Now I am billed and pay via check. As of today it has come to my knowledge that they have been billing me, I have been paying with a check, and they have also been billing my credit card at the same time and not posting that on my account. They have been using this credit card without our knowledge or authorization! Which is fraud! Especially when they are not posting those double payments on our account. I called to complain today and I got some lippy unprofessional B#$%@ who refused to help me. So now I have contacted the police to file a fraud report for this and for breaking and entering by their driver who broke into my property without calling first and for fraudulently billing duplicate charges. I have also canceled my credit card and disputed the charges. I will also be looking for a new company and will tell everyone about my experience!
