The rooms in this hotel are stunning. I felt like a queen walking in to a giant bed with sitting area, table and nice size tv. The bathroom was GORGEOUS, lovely clear sided shower and a LARGE bathtub (I love taking baths). Everyone working here was very friendly and helpful. I was sad that they do not have a buffet, however our friends ate in the Fireside Restaurant and said it was delicious. This was our first time at this hotel, however it will definitely not be our last. Next time I just hope we win some money, smile! read more

Hotel: the accommodations are fantastic! We've stayed twice and haven't been disappointed. Hubs and I met when we worked at a hotel so we're pretty nit picky about where we stay. The furniture and bedding are modern and the rooms are great size. One down side is the AC...doesn't really cool but that's typical in hotels. Tables: oh the tables...we love craps and really appreciate that Ameristar has at least 3 tables. I'd knock a star off based on the high minimums, but they do have great service. Slots: I've only played the slots at Ameristar once so can't really review those...though I don't really win! Love that they have a Starbucks but wish they had more options available outside of the casino area. Having to get my ID checked just to grab a coffee seems excessive & based on poor space planning. The hotel lobby is massive; perhaps consider reusing some of that space... read more

Well, we got a couple of rooms at Ameristar for my friend, brother & I (all seniors), which were a couple of hundred a night per for average rooms with a view of the back lot and dumpster full of mattresses. My friend's bed had a worn out mattress that sunk down on one side, and after a rather poor night's sleep, one of us got a couple hundred dollars' massage (nice). BUT, then we went downstairs for a buffet meal which was $50 apiece, -- no breaks for staying there -- and asked for a senior, or military discount -- no discounts. Put on a 15% tip, for a waitperson who pointed behind her when we asked for spoons for the soup (no spoons on table). May sound petty, but so were these people! No breaks for any but BIG players. Some players ahead of us left when they were charged for their buffets, to go somewhere they'd be treated better. It's my first & last time here, felt VERY unwelcomed!! And endless cardkey problems...yikes!! read more

I visit Blackhawk three or four times per year whenever I am in Colorado. AmeriStar casino has always been my favorite for table games, especially craps. I am saddened to report that my recent visit, last night, was made memorable by the smug and indifferent attitudes of the craps dealers at my table. The dealers need to remember that we are visiting for a good time and be entertained for a few hours. Dealers only interacting with each other, not smiling or personable to the guests and rolling their eyes anytime a table guest makes a bad bet or a mistake does not lead to a "good time". Never before in the many years of my visits to Ameristar has this happened. So I left Ameristar and went to the Lodge Casino across the street. The table dealers were smiling at the guests, interacting with the guests and in general creating a hospitable environment for the guests. My money and I will be visiting the lodge casino from now on. I will leave the elitist AmeriStar dealers to their self appointed superiority. They are definitely proficient at ignoring the guests and rolling their eyes! read more

My husband & I planned a spur of the moment weekend getaway based on a suggestion from my manager. We used to visit Vegas 3-4 times a year before COVID so it was an exciting prospect to enjoy a casino resort weekend. I did like the theme of the resort. It reminded me a lot of the Grand Californian in Disneyland or Caesar's Palace in Vegas with the artificial ceiling. It was great to be able to have our room ready right when we arrived a little after noon on a Friday & to be put on the top floor! The views of the mountains & town were spectacular. Other positives were that there was a nice variety of games & the Fireside Kitchen had great breakfast both days (I highly recommend the Chipotle Prime Rib Benny!). Now onto the negatives...The first sign that things were going downhill was when our couples massage got canceled 5 minutes before we were going to head down to the Spa for our appointment. Because this was a vacation, eliminating a main activity is kind of a huge let down, especially considering this was also something we haven't partaken in since pre-pandemic times. Since we were already in swim gear, we thought to recover our morning by checking out the highly recommended rooftop jacuzzis. Fooled again! There was no relaxation or enjoyment to be had here as the entire area was swamped with young kids. I really think because of the nature of the property & town of Black Hawk, kids should not be allowed to stay at this hotel. It's not like Vegas where there are other activities for non-gamblers & 80% of the property is inaccessible to people under 21. With those 2 activities off the table, the only thing left was to go hit the Casino floor earlier then we had planned. Wouldn't you know it, our in room safe became inoperable. We had stashed all our valuables there including our gambling money in anticipation of being at the spa for the 1st half of the day. That meant we waited 30-40 minutes until the hotel could free our items the old fashioned way. Aside from the above, I was sorely disappointed in the food options. When I gamble in Vegas I like to take little snack or drink breaks. There is only a Starbucks, Fireside Kitchen, Timberline Grill, & Bar 8042. The Centennial Market may or may not have been open but it definitely was not the cafeteria style promised so we didn't consider it. This hotel needs a Fat Tuesday, fast food spot, and/or dessert stall equivalent for me to want to stay in the casino longer. Since they are lacking in this department, it meant we took our money to play at resorts elsewhere on the strip that were more accomodating. My husband also had his last night pre-emptively cut short which means Ameristar again lost out on our money. Around 9PM on Saturday, a guy sat down next to him at the electronic Roulette table & was acting beligerent, loud, & down right odd in an uncomfortable way yelling & aggressively banging the machine. My husband grabbed his ticket of remaining money after one too many looks from the guy & hightailed it out of there because who knows what this guy's going to do next or even if he was going to make a move to grab the cash from my husband's machine. Ameristar needs to do a better job with security & keeping people who are clearly acting up in line. Never had this problem even remotely in Vegas. It is also pretty frightening to know there are no protections to stop someone looking to jump you from following you up to your room as the elevators don't require you to scan your room key. Last nitpick would be that the hotel itself feels dated next to the newer Monarch. Overall, we had a pretty decent time in Black Hawk, but there's no question that next time we're in town we will be staying at the Monarch. read more

Never been treated so rudely by a bartender or any service worker for that matter. I spent hours playing and was only asked if I wanted a drink once. When I approached the downstairs bar for a drink, I asked for two (one for me and one for my husband). When I asked for two, the bartender raised his voice and shouted "No" at me and then loudly proclaimed that I "must have never been to a casino before because I would know better than to ask that" and then barely served me one. Obviously rules are rules but the way it was handled was absurd. Starbucks worker was also short and clearly unhappy. Disappointed because I have really like Ameristar until now.. better off staying somewhere you're treated nicely. read more

We stayed two nights at the Ameristar Hotel on vacation in Black Hawk Colorado. The hotel is beautiful just don't gamble here! In the casino not only did I hit a jackpot that they would not pay but so did another woman. The Gaming commission was called when I hit my jackpot and I was told that there was no camera that caught it?! I was sitting right outside the high limit area where there are eight cameras on the ceiling but I was told none of them caught the jackpot. I also heard from the locals that there have been larger jackpot hit that were paid by check and then their checks bounced. These people are shysters stay away from them. There are plenty of fun places to gamble in Black Hawk but Ameristar should not be your choice. read more

Wow, what can I say? Ameristar Casino Resort has seen better days and better service. I just took my wife to Ameristar for her birthday. We were excited to get away for 24 hours and leave the kids and dogs and responsibilities behind to enjoy having some down and adult time. No more watching animal shows for the next 24 hours! Upon arriving we walked in and noticed that the main escalators were out of order due to construction, okay we made a mental note of that. We went to the hotel check in where our front desk person just told us she just got out of the hospital due to Covid and that her throat was still sore but she said she was not contagious but that there are several employees in quarantine because they have Covid and it's spreading throughout the hotel. Now knowing this there were employees walking around doing their thing without masks an there were no mask mandates Ameristar. Needless to say my wife and I wore ours. We got on to the elevator to go to the 15th floor and when the doors opened we were hit with the strong odor of weed being smoked and air freshener to try and cover it up. So now after feeling like we walked into a Petrie dish we couldn't get to our room fast enough to wash our hands, arms and face. We walked in to our room. The floor tiles were sticky and you can hear and feel the floor tiles sticking to our feet. After washing up I made it to the bed. At this point I took off my shoes and stepped on to the carpet. The carpet was soaking wet. It was nasty. I called down to the front desk to ask why. I had to call the front desk 6 times after waiting for 10 mins each time with the same result no answer. But the 7th time was the lucky number. I told them about the sticky tiles and the wet carpet. They had no answers and had no resolution to fix the problem. They did not offer a new room or food comps or towels to put down on the carpet... I had to come up with that piece of wisdom by myself. Later that night when we called housekeeping for pillows I brought up the floor issues and they told us that the carpet was just cleaned so that's why it was wet. Gross. Who knows what germs and bacteria was brought to the surface and we are stepping on it. So we are unhappy wet and frustrated. Housekeeping came but it took 2.5 hours for them to bring us these simple items. Now we are hungry. We go downstairs but had to walk all the way around the casino because the staircase was out of order. This is hard for me as I am disabled. We finally made it with no help from the casino because when we got to the other escalator it also was out of order. The restaurant has like 15 items on the menu and we chose a burger with sweet potato fries. The hamburger was okay the fries were ice cold and they have you sitting in the old buffet dining room. Way to much space for such few people so it felt weird. And it smells... bad. The reason for this is all you can eat crab leg specials over the years being dripped the carpet. It smells of an old fishing boat. Now we tried our luck on the slot machines and didn't even win enough credits to play on a machine for five mins. But that's how gambling is. But it did force us to call it the night early and we ended up watching animal shows anyways. Ameristar used to be a beautiful resort and it had employees to match. The rooms were always clean and the staff was helpful and joyful to help you. Management cared and always fixed any issues you may have and the food was good. Not anymore. This resort is being driven in to the ground by people that don't care about the resort and worse yet it's guests. I hope your experiences are better than ours. Thank you for reading. I don't know who's in charge of hiring but everyone I ran across looked sad and pissed... wow... on the main floor, a waitress or tech literally stared at me from across the floor for several VERY UNCOMFORTABLE moments and then smirked and walked away... WHAT IN THE BLUE HELL WAS THAT? That's how your employees greet people... Jesus Christ!?!?! I have never seen and/or experienced that deplorable behavior before... and NEVER WILL AGAIN... never even wanted to spend any more time or money in this truly creepy little place on the planet. This certainly should not be called a resort. My experience was less than satisfactory. Our room reeked of pot when we walked in. The room was 80 degrees and the coolest we could get it was 78. Took a shower to cool down. Went to dry my hair... turns out the hair dryer didnt work. Waited 20+ minutes on hold to reach the front desk, then another hour to get a working hair dryer. Went out to eat at the fireside restaurant inside the hotel, it was terrible and ended up waking up at 1am because the food made me sick. Thank goodness I didnt eat much of it. So needless to say I dont recommend this place, you're better off spending your hard earned dollars anywhere else in Black Hawk. Dont be fooled by the resort and spa in their name like I was. read more

Stayed 1 night in this hotel for a Teamsters seminar, room clean but furniture kinda beat up. The buffet not worth $100 for 2 people Crab legs are rationed 1lbs per person, and they were over cooked, so some you couldn't eat ,prime rib was good ,but the other food was not that good. The hotel and casino itself was beat up and just seemed dirty, 3 out of 5 elevators were working and they rattle and shake. and you have wait 2 to 3 minutes for 1, but the garage elevators were worse had to wait almost 6 minutes for 1 to take me down to the casino. I only live 1hr away, so I won't be staying there again. I'll stay at another hotel. read more

We planned a day trip up there about two weeks ago. My friend called and scheduled two massages for our wives. Even gave the person on the phone their credit card number. We get up there and they go to check in for their massages. They were told there is no reservation anywhere in the system and they were turned away. Fast forward to yesterday, we were charged for the massages (with an extra fee of some kind). Hubby & I stayed on a Wednesday night in Feb '22. We had the Deluxe King room on 15th floor. I'll start with the Cons to this casino/hotel: -The Drinks. The drinks you get while you're gambling really suck to put it easily. They taste just okay, but you'll feel crappy the next day. They use a very well liquor. Hubby ordered a Makers Mark & Coke, they BOTH came out of the dispenser thing, I was waiting for him to take out the Makers bottle, but nope. There are previous reviews about the drinks and it's true. Just order a bottle or can of beer or wine. You'll be safe. We both barely drank and felt sick. -"bar scene" - doesn't exist. There's truly NOTHING to do if you don't like to gamble. Says there are bars, but they're video poker bars, no conversation and it takes forever to get a bartender. -hotel was completely out of toothpaste, my bad for forgetting it, but I had to leave Resort in search for it and got the last toothpaste available at the local Market. -hotel walls are fairly thin! -there is NO fun vibe here, maybe because it was middle of week, but even Thursday it didn't pick up so we literally LEFT and had paid for our room but still came home instead of staying our 2nd night. -Elevators are a little shaky, scared me a bit but I'm also paranoid of elevators. Pros: -The food!! It's worth the price, both restaurants inside Ameristar are fantastic and waitresses that we had very nice. -Beds are fairly comfortable, saw a lot of complaint reviews about the pillows, but I didn't have a problem. -free self parking in a garage :) -only 2 little bottles of water- just be sure to grab more free waters downstairs before going up to your room everytime. All n all, we weren't big fans of Black Hawk in general. We ended up a little bit bored after dinner and gambling looking for more fun or nightlife. Hope this helps!! read more

They card you every five feet in the casino. What's the point of door security if you're going to assume everyone who doesn't look 50 is a baby? This tortures both the guests and the employees, and I couldn't stand to be in the place long enough to spend anything. None of the other casinos do this, either. Apparently this was implemented because someone who looked over 21 wasn't carded, and ended up being too young. Except they only card you if you look young, so it doesn't actually solve the problem. read more

I have no idea where they are hiring these people from but Do not LEAVE ANYTHING BEHIND YOU WILL NEVER SEE it AGAIN. Never get your room serviced without cleaning it up first and putting away allll of your belongings socks, clothes and accessories included put every single thing away! . The maids will steal your stuff and they are never held accountable when it's brought to the managers attention... This was a mini girls-only vacation. We drove up from Nebraska/ Kansas to stay for a few days. It's a beautiful area and the casino and hotel are very nice! We would definitely come back. The casino is two level and looks close to new, which we didn't really expect. They have a great poker room. Our hotel room itself was comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the mountains. The dining experiences for the whole area were a little disappointing, but part of that was our own faults (bc of COVID seating is extremely limited -- so we couldn't get a reservation in any of the nicer restaurants we were hoping to visit). We were able to dine at the Fireside Kitchen, they were unfortunately out of over 1/2 their menu items but staff was apologetic and went out of their way to make sure we had a nice dinner. We also weren't able to schedule any spa appointments in a 3 day period. The pool was unfortunately closed while we were there, but there were two hot tubs--One indoors and one outdoors. This place was once great. It was easily the closest thing you could get to Vegas on the hill. The Centennial buffet was one of the best buffets I've ever experienced in my life. Sadly, things have changed, and not for the better. The Centennial buffet is now called "The Waypost". The Waypost is considered a deli, I consider it to be a food court with terrible options. The Mexican food doesn't even meet Taco Bell standards and their deli sandwiches are comparable to something you'd find in the refrigerated section of your local truck stop. We decided to have breakfast at the Fireside Grill. Don't get me wrong, the Fireside has never been over the top good but it's always provided slightly better than average food for a reasonable price. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Their menu options sound great but what you get does not come close to what you expect. The French toast brioche comes served cold with fruit that's old and sour. The Chicken and waffles are also served cold and I'm pretty sure the buttermilk was double soured because the chicken was inedible. Both breakfasts were served with some kind of "pinkish" buttery spread that they claim is butter. It is definitely not butter and whatever it is tastes absolutely horrendous. Our wonderfully inedible breakfast was $50. The hotel rooms here are clean and haven't changed one bit since this place was built, 20 years ago. The bathroom shower is great as long as you don't actually have to use it. It took about 15 minutes to get warm water to come out of the shower and the warm water lasted all of 30 seconds. The Ameristar is supposed to be a premium 4 Diamond resort. Instead, it's priced like a 4 Diamond resort but offers the same kind of luxury and comforts you've come to expect at a Flying J truck stop. read more

I really enjoy going to the Ameristar Black Hawk a few times a year. It's a great escape from city life. The casino is fun and pays out evenly from my experience. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are wonderful! However new mattresses are sorely needed as the mattresses slump in the middle pretty badly. The buffet is tasty and the Starbucks and the Wayside deli are affordable and convenient. I just hate how there is alcohol available 24/7 but no food available most weeknights from 2am until 7am. It just doesn't make sense. If those two complaints could be worked out I would skip Vegas and just drive out to Black Hawk instead. Here's hoping.... UPDATE: The beds including mattresses and pillows are now much better. The room service has been revamped just a little bit, I do enjoy all day breakfast options. The casino is as fun as ever! I wouldn't go anywhere else in Black Hawk. I'm still waiting for a 24hr wayside deli or something, but other than that, good job. read more

The only reason why I ever liked my experience was playing with $20.00 and got a couple lucky "Pandas" on my screen. This casino is one of the most packed of the bunch with overly worked hostesses walking around taking orders for drinks. There is hardly any seating area and SUPER FLIPPIN' crowded!!! I get ID'D like there is no freakin' tomorrow. Even with a wrist band, any gesture or movement I do, everyone's on my a** and frankly harassing me. I think 4 years ago, I wrote the same thing. They totally had a reason to do so. I'm 24, leave me alone!! The staff is so-so, mostly trying to get others to drink and spend. A very pushy atmosphere and super cheap machine slots. Not my most favorite here. We did eat at the buffet and the buffet is the only thing I look forward to! read more

5:20 and my room isnt ready, Not kid friendly, they changed the rules and kids can't even go to the buffet anymore. One of the queen beds in room 1220 was broken worst night sleep ever. Way downhill, wife couldn't even get a blow dryer after waiting for an hour. There are way bigger issues than just that, and FYI the fireside restaurant has negative reviews and the food is not that good. This review is a bit delayed but I still felt inclined to write it because my experience at Ameristar was incredible! I stayed at Ameristar with my boyfriend just for a night but we had an amazing time. The check-in process was smooth and easy and was even more fun as they offered complimentary beer and wine in the lobby. The bartender was helpful and let us know that glass bottles aren't allowed in the pool/hot tub area but gave us plastic cups so we could take them to the pool (which we immediately did). Ameristar has a lot of amenities, including a spa with full service, lap pool, and two hot tubs (one covered and one outside). They have at least two different restaurants to choose from as well. Our room was clean and large (one king bedroom, nonsmoking). We had a great view of the mountains during the day and got a lot of natural light but the curtains helped keep all the sunlight out the next morning. My boyfriend went off to the pool and I treated myself to a facial which was fantastic. If anyone is thinking of getting any spa treatments at Ameristar, just know that you're allowed to use the spa facilities for the rest of that day (sauna, hot tub, resting area, etc) which I thought was great. I wish I had more time to enjoy it but we wanted to grab dinner and hit the casinos. I thought the minimum on the tables at Ameristar was a bit steep, but I'm also not a regular gambler so I mostly just watched. They have a large variety of games and roaming drink service which was nice. Another added bonus about this place is free parking in the garage! Ameristar may be pricey then some of the other places in Black Hawk but its worth the splurge. Definitely plan on returning back again soon! read more

I used to love ameristar growing up because my family used to take us when we were kids and the chicken tenders were a must so going back up with my dad and my little brother now tht I'm of age to gamble I wanted to take it back to my childhood and get chicken tenders so we went downstairs to that restaurant waypost ordered the chicken tenders JUST FOR THEM TO STILL BE RAW I had literally took a bite and had a mouth full of raw chicken My little brother was so sad. They did not refund us but gave us 2 free pizzas! Which in my defense they should have still gave the refund considering they served us raw chicken!? I stay here very regularly and would probably call it a 3.5. I do think it's the best place to stay in Black Hawk. When you arrive, you can either self park or valet for free. I've never been able to check in before 2 which can be kind of a nuisance when you arrive early. Most hotels let you check in before their normal check in time if they have rooms available. The check in line can be pretty long during peak times, I like the nice touch they recently added of beer and wine on the weekends while you're waiting to check in. The free bottled water is nice too. The rooms are nice, but not necessarily anything special. I love the spa suite! The Timberline is a great restaurant (I've done a separate review for that). I've also heard great things about the spa, but haven't used that yet. read more

This is what a $30 medium rare prime rib steak looks like after i sent it back 3 times for not being cooked adequately. First it was purple rare, then barely browned but still somehow not hot. Now it's hella over cooked and It tastes like a hamburger patty. What the absolute fuck!?! It's 100% over cooked and the manager said they temp checked it and it was perfect med rare...its like jerky! Dont even get me started on their shitty buffet! This past weekend my Husband, Brother and sister-in-law stayed at the Ameristar Black Hawk Casino. We are from NC but my brother is VIP and surprised us with a good time. As we arrived in our suite, there were snacks, drinks a little blue Tiffany's bag. The host Erik really laid out the red carpet for us. We had a nice steak and seafood dinner at the Timberline Grill restaurant where the service and food was phenomenal. Saturday morning my sister-in-law and I had massages by Latoshia which was so relaxing. Thank you Erik for taking care of us this weekend and making it a memorable experience. My husband and I had dinner at the steak house in Ameristar and let me tell you save your money the service was terrible when the waitress was clearing our table she dropped crab legs on my husband and did not even apologize she just walked off bur that is not the worst of it she gave me the bill and I gave her my credit card and she came back to the table and told me she was having a problem with the card so I was like ok and gave her another card but I was concerned so I checked the first card account on line and saw that she had charged my card 8 times and then charged the second card I gave her 5 times so I called for the manager and he acted like is was no big deal he said that none of the charges went through so I kept an eye on my statement and talked to my bank today and they told me the charges went through and I had to options 1disput the charge or just have the restaurant refund me. So I left a number of message for Raymond Briggs and he has not responded so I just talked to the other manager and she told me she could not do anything to help me till she talked to her IT dept so ok we will see if she called me tomorrow The thing that pisses me off the most is no one has even said sorry matter fact the are acting as if it us my fault. So save yourself a head ace and go to the steak house at the Monarch better food and a whole lot better service. read more

My wife and I had to spend the night in my car due to them overbooking themselves and when I presented this to the receptionist and shrugged her shoulders. I found it very unprofessional and rude to discover that Ameristar DOES NOT take care of their guests reservations or not. read more

Well the hotel itself could definitely use a little improvements. We came here for our 14th year anniversary. I gave it a three out of five because the price for the evening at $170 for a spa suite was excellent! The problem is is the bathroom main light did not work so if you're a woman that enjoys putting on your make up with light in the morning don't bother with the suite. The other concern was the comforter. It was stained with coffee, booger's (gross) and a few other interesting stains. Oh really needed was a wash. This could both be overlooked it was a busy season but this is the slow season it's time to take some pride in your hotel. The grill was really good and we ordered a burger and Ruben. They were both excellent as well as the staff and cook were super nice. I would recommend it and it was a reasonable price I think we got out of there with 30 bucks with a five dollar tip. However the stuff the next morning when we checked out pretty much blew off my husbands suggestions about the light in the comforter which honestly could really ruin somebody's evening. Other than that the casino itself was real nice with lots of play options. If I continue to go I would probably get the players card. read more

I'm not one to write these kinds of reviews but this needs to be read! I'll start with the positives, the casino was extremely nice and the employees working the floor were an absolute joy. Even the cafe downstairs had some pretty good food. I lost a good amount of money, but can't go wrong. Ok now on to the main reason for the 1 star. My parents and I planned to do a nice roadtrip across the mid west, and this hotel was to be the last stop before the end. We're from California, so coming to Colorado is very rare. We had booked two rooms months ago. I was set with the deluxe and my parents had the premium, so they could have a higher room with a better view. However, without giving us heads up, the hotel decided to have us on a lower floor with both our rooms side by side. They still charged the premium price even though we had a standard deluxe room. The staff made a counter argument they couldn't get the rooms side by side on the higher levels, even though my parents didn't want that. Then they said everything was booked unless they wanted a room with two queens So they agreed to lower the price on one of the rooms so we could match. There's the first thing. Next, when it was time to go to bed, my parents were horrified to see what was awaiting for them under the sheets. Hair all over, as well what appeared to be a small smear of poop. Yes, poop. They took a photo of the bed stain and all the hair to bring it to the front desks attention. They completely refused to stay in the room even if clean sheets were brought up. They had no choice but to take a bedroom on a higher floor with two queens. The person in charge at the time assured the employees responsible for that move had been terminated (who knows if that happened) That room was clear of any debris; however the entire bedroom, especially the pillow sheet, reeked of perfume and vomit. They barely got any sleep last night. As well myself, I kept waking up in the middle of the night feeling like i was being bitten constantly. After further review, I came across a few bed bugs in my bed! I decided to take a spare blanket from the closet and slept on the floor. The next morning, the parents had agreed to end our stay short due to the circumstances. We were set to stay for 2 nights. We approached the manager and showed her the pics and discussed everything that had happened. She was extremely sorry and didn't charge us for the nights stay and we wouldn't be charged any further. All in all, this is a 4 diamond resort! How can you allow this to happen, its completely unacceptable. I am disappointed I had such high hopes for this hotel due to all the amazing reviews I have ready. I've been in 1 star hotels and nothing like this has ever been seen. All in all, if you want to come here to gamble and eat, do it! Its nice downstairs. If you come to stay, INSPECT YOUR ROOMS CAREFULLY. I just don't see us coming back to give it a second try. First and foremost because we didn't know. This entire area is not kid friendly at all. There is absolutely no where you are allowed to buy anything (like a bottle of water) if you have a stroller. Our room is very nice but we couldn't do anything in town because there is literally not a single place to go except casinos. You can't even eat at most restaurants with a baby. It is not family friendly at all. I'm so dehydrated because there is no where to get water! Also the fireside grill in the hotel is so over priced and honestly not good at all. The artichoke dip is horrible. My husbands chicken sandwich had shaved carrots on it? Weird.. overall i wish we knew that the area is not kid friendly at all and gone elsewhere. My husband and I stayed here twice in the past 6 years during our snowboarding/skiing trips. It's about an hour drive to the ski resorts we like to frequent. Here are some pros/cons: PRO - nice, updated rooms and amenities. Safe, coffee maker, complimentary wi-fi and water bottles in the rooms. Decent buffet, but if you're not a frequent gambler there be prepared to wait in line! They have crab legs now for those who are fans of that. Rooftop heated indoor and outdoor pools that close at 11 pm. If you're a gambler, there are lots of other casinos within walking distance to Ameristar. The little town is pretty neat for sightseeing. Friendly staff. Timberline Grill is pretty good for dinner and Fireside Kitchen is good for breakfast. Complimentary beverages/coffee stationed around the casino--the main one being in the food court. Oh, food court is pricey, but it has pho! Not the best, but it'll do. Starbucks. Nice VIP lounge (food, dessert, drinks). Smoke-free casino. CONS - Windy roads to/from. Drive carefully as some railings are not high enough to stop your car from rolling off the mountains. Parking is horrible on busy days! Because it's a casino where people do not sleep, you do not sleep. Loud drunks at odd hours of the day. (This can be a PRO depending on how you look at it), but the staff chases you down for your ID. We got chased down the escalator once. If you wear your bracelet it'll help, but who wants that crap on your hands (I felt like an underage kid at a club or something). Even though I know they're doing their jobs, I felt like a criminal for some reason being eyed out and chased down every time I walk by a red-jacket staff member. Main lounge/bar is dull/boring--not much "night life" if you're stuck up in the mountains and want to dress up for a night, enjoy good music, and have a drink w/ friends. Restaurants aren't open late on weekends either. And of course, the occasional pot smoker that stinks up the hallways, elevators, etc. read more

Disappointing customer service Husbands arranged a girls spa weekend as a Christmas gift with early check in. Rooms weren't ready at 10:30 am as booked and confirmed via phone call day prior so we went to our spa appointments. Rooms weren't ready at 3. Finally got my room at 6 pm after 4 visits to the front desk and very indifferent/insensitive staff that they couldn't get my room ready in a reasonable amount of time. I was told "that's what you get for being too early" despite the early check in notes. All agents were quite aloof to the fact that my room was 2 hrs late to the normal check in time. My spa suite had a broken shower head, torn and missing paint, tv cables hanging out. Compared to my friends room, there was much less care and attention to detail on the appearance and maintenance of my room. For the price the service and experience means this is likely my one and only visit to the establishment.a read more
