Do not waste your money here! I have been to the Ameristar's buffet a few times and this last time was very disappointing. To start off with the crab legs that everybody goes for were dry, seemed like they had been out for a while and had no meat in them. The buffet was a mess: food everywhere, they were out of butter. There was a lack of upkeep on the plates temperature. I went to go grab a plate and it burnt my fingers, I told one of the supervisors and all he said was "oh sorry do you want ice?" I didn't even get an "are you okay?". Just feel like overall was very disappointing. read more

So hard not to compare the Ameristar Casino to anything in Las Vegas. Parked on the 8th level of 10 levels. Room was nice, desk and chair, lounge chair with foot rest, glass shower with nice stone tile, full deep bathtub and stone/granite sink with separate bathroom closet, 2 queens only available when we requested a King size bed. We ended up going swimming, but were disappointed that our room did not have robes, while everyone else at the pool seemed to have robes. Large beautiful indoor pool with large hot tub on the roof with one large outdoor hot tub outside on the long skinny patio. We ate at the buffet and were almost told we missed the 9:00p cut off. July 3rd was sold out and we stayed really cheap. My wife was 37 weeks pregnant, so this was much more of a retreat than a wild gambling party night. Did not spend a dime in the casino, didn't lose anything either. read more

This is the best casino in Colorado and it even beats most Vegas ones. I'm only giving four stars because they took out the unique and fun games like the bubble dice (craps, sicbo), roulette & baccarat station by interblock. The real craps tables don't allow a commission vig after a bought number - it must be paid before. :/ The blackjack at the bar in the middle on the weekends in awesome. The bands are also pretty good. Hotel rooms are great - haven't been to the pool up there. The hours for it are not good. They should keep the pool open late for hotel guests - it's only open during the time when you're most likely in the casino! Adequate parking, though I wish there were special spots for the redneck truckers that don't have enough room in the normal spots and cause everyone else to miss out on certain spots. Management is very good here. I don't play anywhere else. Poker room is awesome, though they only do cash games - no SNGs. read more

It's a casino, located in the middle of no where. The neighborhood seemed sketchy to me, but once I got inside the Ameristar Casino, the modern games and new slot machines made me feel right at home. Also, they have soda machines and coffee machines so instead of waiting for a waitress you can help yourself and save the tip money! read more

First of all, a big "LOL" at anyone who left this place a poor review because they didn't win money. Perhaps a basic lesson in math is in order for some of you. If you're going to a casino to make money, you're doing it wrong. You go for the fun, the amenities, and the *chance* of winning. Pulling out a win is a bonus, not a guarantee. I love Ameristar. It's clean, it's the best casino by far in Black Hawk, the vast majority of staff is courteous and professional, and the food choices are great. I never miss a nice steak at Timberline Grill in my approximately 1 visit per month, which is always excellent and the service is fantastic. They're generous with the free drinks, including top-shelf booze, even for non-members or basic members. The indoor rooftop pool area is beautiful and includes 2 hot tubs, one inside, one out. The rooms are spacious, attractive and well kept. Valet service is professional and well run, not to mention free (tip them, folks!) Free beer or wine in the lobby during check-in, poolside bar, multiple choices for places to sip a cocktail and people watch. Any casino is going to attract some undesirable elements, but I never once felt unsafe or uncomfortable during my many visits to Ameristar. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

I love the Ameristar! It's my favorite place to go for a quick get away. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfy. They don't place robes in the rooms however I just learned you can call request them. We had a girl's night - and hit the rooftop hot tubs- the pool and outdoor hot tub is worth a visit during your stay. Dinner at the Timberline was awesome and excellent service by Swavick made us feel like royalty. After dinner we hit the casino - we lost money but we sure had a fun time doing it! Breakfast was at the Fireside and the Green Chili skillet was a perfect cure to my my mini-hangover. Aura Spa is one of my top spas to go to in Colorado. I spent 5 hours of pure relaxation and while all good things must come to an end I didn't want to leave. Zoe performed a Lava shell massage and the heat from the shells eased all the tension in my muscles. I can't wait to go the Ameristar again- it's my favorite place for a 1 night get away. This is my favorite Casino in the area!!! After a morning Fall Color drive, we decided to hit up Black Hawk for lunch...oh and of course some gambling. There is a lot of parking so you don't have to worry about parking at another casino and walking over. if you're looking to fill up your stomach, you can hit up the buffet. We decided to check that out next time and stopped in the Fireside Kitchen for lunch. Great service and good variety of food and prices. If you're into slots, there is a lot real estate to choose from and claim your machine. Lots of tables for poker, blackjack and roulette tables to choose from. Casino also offers rooms and a spa if you looking to stay the weekend for a quick get away from Denver. Ameristar is a must visit if you looking to cruise the Black Hawk strip!! read more

My first trip to Black Hawk was a roaring success. We had a good time and if we went back I would stay at Ameristar again. I didn't realize the drive was only 45 mins from Denver. The staff at check in were friendly and I was fairly surprised that the Ameristar hotel rooms were so nice. Plenty of room for four people to share a room and the mini fridge is a nice perk. The bathroom was huge and one of the nicer ones I've had in a hotel in a while. I'm a slots fan so there were plenty of choices of all kinds. The casino floor and the heated smoking deck were both still fairly busy and lively even at 5am. If you are looking for cheap blackjack you will probably have to go to another casino but its a super short walk across the street. We tried to get manicures but they were pretty booked out/ didn't appear to have a lot of people working. So make sure to book early if you want to use the spa, particularly because it is the only one in town. $65 for a pedi seemed a little high too. While we didn't use it, there is a shuttle around town and up to Central City which would be a great way to visit a few places. We didn't make it to the pool, apparently packed with children. Ok people, this isn't a kid friendly vacation destination when the pool is the absolute and only thing for them to do and I highly recommend leaving them behind. I went in search of a place to read a book while everyone else napped but found no chairs that weren't in a bar or attached to gambling. It would have been nice to have a little more lounge space, other then a few couches by check-in. So if you are planning on doing anything other than gambling and drinking- understand your options will be limited. Then again, why else would you go to Black Hawk. read more

I've stayed at many Aneristar's and this on is low on the rating list. They don't provide you with a booklet of information in the room like the wifi password, and staff didn't know it either. our Chanel guide didn't work so we just had to flip through the TV until we found something.The staff was not friendly or helpful when we asked about local attractions. Timberline restaurant is way over priced. My small lobster tails cost $80 and my husband got prime rib that was raw. Our bill came out to $170. Not worth it! This hotel has the WORST customer service. We've been coming here for years and this year (2021) has literally been the worst experience ever! I had been trying to reach someone for over an hour without any help. In the past they've been great, but not anymore. I was on hold for over half an hour when someone on the line asked me to hold, I thought "finally" but they never came back on and was left on hold for another half hour until I hung up. Then tried again and they never ended up picking up the line. The tv didn't work, the fridge left our food rotten, the bedsheets were stained. We ended up getting a lower level room, yeah we got deluxe, but clustered everyone around the same area of the hotel. Which I thought, "GREAT, so where's the privacy" also, when you stepped onto the floor it smelt like weed. Such a beautiful place, going to complete garbage. Also, went around the beginning of the week to avoid any overcrowding and have a little more privacy. Traveler beware!! I also forgot to mention, they were so vague about the hours of their restaurants and we went down three times without knowing when they closed and opened. Which I will admit I didn't see the hours on the side of the doors. But USUALLY it's opened, everyday, from 7am-2pm then they open back up from 5pm-10pm. read more

This is the nicest place to stay in Black Hawk. The lobby is beautiful, rooms are tidy and the customer service is terrific. The table are reasonable and a lot of fun. The only negative is the room service situation. It is the only hotel I have ever been to that stops service at 10pm. I found that surprising in a casino. Also, it seems that in-room dining as a whole may be short staffed because an hour or more is the standard wait time. This is primarily for the hotel, which is fabulous and very reasonably priced any time but the weekends. The rooms are very large and super nice. The separate shower and tub let you know you are somewhere nicer than four stars. It is not the Wynn, but its honestly not that far off as far as room quality. The rooftop pool is wonderful, with a massive hot tub inside and a smaller one outside where you can look over the town and see the stars. The pool is open until ten every night and it seems pretty easy to bring drinks up there (as long as they are not glass). The casino is nice, and very large, but the limits are generally too high for me and the poker room is a zoo due to the bad beats. My suggestion is to stay here during the week, hit the $3 breakfast buffet across the street after waking up and working out in the nice workout facility, and make sure to get a swim/soak in at some point. Gamble here if you got the dough, otherwise hit the Lodge or another second tier establishment. read more

Very nice casino. They had about 30 table games and LOTS of slot machines. I've never been to the Black Hawk area so I wasn't sure what to expect. Once we arrived and drove through it was an area that was a lot bigger than we expected. All the casinos are right next to each other and there are plenty of them. Many you can just walk through to and not have to walk outside. With all the casino choices, we decided on Ameristar due to the reviews we read on Yelp. We were glad we chose Ameristar because it was clean and big. The place wasn't too crowded and there were a variety of table games to choose from. I highly recommend Ameristar if you are in the Black Hawk area. read more

As I hopped off the airplane in Denver and took the public bus downtown, I sat next to a pleasant man who had recommended I go to Black Hawk during my stay in Denver and check out this casino over all others. I had a lot of fun at this casino as a visitor from New York City. I've never seen so many (almost 20?!?!?) casinos bunched up in the span of a few blocks. The staff here are friendly and will always be willing to answer any questions you have. Dealers were all very friendly, and didn't see any who were grumpy or angry. I went home a happy winner. The only issue I had was that all three of the craps tables that were open were full and extremely loud. However I definitely had a fun experience and would go back if I had time. read more

I just recently moved to Colorado and had a visitor come stay for the week. Have always heard about Blackhawk and chose Ameristar because it had the pool. Let me say, the experience was great! Beautiful room. We got the deluxe room with two queen beds. $119. Thought this was very reasonable. Very friendly staff! Got there very early and we were able to get in our room 4 hours early, which was great because we had been dying to hit up the pool and rooftop hot tub. We are two 24 year old girls and had a great time! Will defiantly be back. Only spent $25 on the penny machines and went to another hotel for food. So cannot comment on restaurants etc. beautiful rooms with see thru showers. Great day and night!! Great service!! read more

Driving through the Rockies and everywhere you look there is old mining equipment, and run down buildings. (Its one of the coolest places Ive ever seen), and I had no idea what to expect about Black hawk. I was told that it was a casino and I figured Black hawk was the actual casino because no details were given. I was so wrong. We drove up a huge mountain and all of a sudden I see a town circa 1920s, old saloons, and stores that you know have been there since the 20's, old houses and a whole strip of casinos tucked in this nook of the Rockies. It was ah-maze-ing! The food at the Ameristar is really good. We walked around to a few of the other casinos which are all smoke free and equally amazing. Its a fun little town, if you are in Denver visiting this is a must see. read more

Very very slow service, both in the restaurant and the hotel. They were running only two elevators and had to wait up to 5 minutes for one. Rooftop pool and jacuzzis are beautiful but for the price in the off season, I'm not sure if I'll be returning. read more

We always come to Ameristar when we come to Black Hawk so naturally when our daughter turned 21- we brought her up for a night. We will rethink this in the future... So many things were wrong from the very beginning- such a disappointment. Hotel: Check in is always so long but we did get rooms close to our daughters so we were happy. We had one room comped (like I said this WAS our go to casino). Room: When we went to the room (around 6PM on a Thursday) there were 5 carts in the hall all still cleaning. The hallways were clogged- this tells me they were really for behind schedule. And the room showed it The rooms were not cleaned well at all- hair in the shower, glasses were covered in white scaly gunk, smudges on the mirrors. Casino: Casino was clean at least but the drink service was HORRIBLE. We played for over an hour before we could find a waitress- Short Staffed?? She took our order and it took 30+ min for her to return- we were not allowed to order our daughter a drink as she was not standing with us- she was against the wall playing. We tried to order another round and was told we had to wait 20 min before we could order again. If it takes 30 min to deliver a beer- why would we have to wait an hour for her to come around again?? We moved and saw another waitress who refused to take an order as she was just delivering. She said she would be right back- 40 min later she never returned. We played for three hours and saw two waitresses- who were not really helping us at all. So we left and went to the Lodge where at least they were happy to help us get our 21 year old a drink within 5 min of sitting down. Dinner at the up stairs restaurant was decent- but we left without any thoughts that we have to return- next time we will eat at the steakhouse. Our waitress Jillian was great however- and brought our daughter a drink on the house- Finally. Gonna have to start looking at the other casinos after this visit. read more

Honestly I use to like going to ameristar to stay. But after booking a night away to just relax was the complete opposite of that. I had booked a king bed and got two queens which that isn't a big deal. But when we decide that it was time to call it a night around 10:00, we maybe got 2 hours of sleep before the rooms all around us got back from the casino. Blaring music, punching the adjoining wall, screaming, slamming doors etc up until 4:45 this morning. Then we have our wonderful toilet that was broken wouldn't flush and would constantly be running loud water. The shower did not get above Luke warm but the sink did get hot so maybe I should have showered using that. Didn't know I booked a room to be a unpaid Plummer. You've got the rooms on the other side of us that clearly were hot boxing the room as you could smell weed all the way to the elevator. When we addressed the issue with the front desk at check out that gal seemed unphased. I was told ya well there was a birthday party. I get birthday parties but guests do also stay there to not party like Tommy Lee and the Montly Crew. It's just shrugged off to spend $280 a night to "relax" but to be told that the other guest and their party it was fine. But you can be welcomed with drunk half naked ladies being kicked out by security on your way out as a form of entertainment. Ridiculous. Would stay away unless you a big partying maybe try Monarch. read more

PRO's-definetly the nicest casino/hotel in Black Hawk, large rooms, 5 star amenities, jet tub, private toilet, double sinks, robes, plush bedding, comfy adjustable beds, large hd tv, free wifi, marble countertops, comfy couches, awesome view. lots of restaurants, free valet, very clean casino, big casino, i liked the fact that their were a ton of coffee/soda machines around the casino that were free/self serve. cocktail servers in casino are fast. CON's-the roof top pool was like a dam daycare with a ton of kids. it was so annoying. Buffet restaurant was an hour wait (FAIL)!!! check in was terrible. took 25 mins in line. read more

I have met rude and unprofessional dealers at lot of other casinos but this Ameristar location has some of the best dealers you can ever find. The craps dealer are specially one of a kind crew! The biggest place in Black Hawk. Shockingly not the tightest machines on the hill (I had employees show me numbers) By far the nicest rooms, but they are also the newest so that should be expected. Employees are helpful when needed, though can be very difficult to find unless you go to the cashier or security stand. Buffet is large with food for everyone. If you actually like buffets, I would suggest this one or The Lodge across the street. It's a casino, you're going to lose, but at least they have some decent amenities to offer. read more

This was a great Friday night adventure! We are big fans of Vegas and gambling. This was our first time at AmeriStar and it is as good as it gets. Although you could see the entire length of the casino from anywhere, there was a good selection of slot machines (our favorite). There was a very limited selection of table games. It will be more exciting when they bring in roulette in June. We ate a quick meal at their snack bar. The pizza was decent and fresh from a wood-fire oven. They seemed to have a fairly good selection of food there. We enjoyed the self-serve soda and coffee stations throughout the casino. Very nice for those who don't drink alcohol. However, if you are looking for an alcoholic beverage, good luck finding someone who will take your drink order. We spent four hours there and never once got asked. They also have a buffet (we plan on trying this next visit) and a Starbucks Coffee. We also signed up for their rewards program and are excited to see what we will receive in the mail...free rooms? free meals? Oh, the suspense! read more

The first resort hotel in Black Hawk does not disappoint, even on a weekend when it's ABSOLUTELY PACKED, the hotel is booked solid, and you're bound to be waiting a while for a seat at any table game. The Ameristar has gone thru a massive remodel and expansion to become the "IT" spot in Black Hawk. The largest spread of table games, biggest poker room, and two floors of slots offer something for everyone, even the caffiene-addicted Starbucks junkie in your group. Every single one of their dealers has an awesome "go get 'em" attitude and really seems like they want you to win - or they jsut want you to bet more. Regardless, it hurts a little less when they're nice when you lose. The pit bosses really push the "Rewards Card" issue, but for good reason - they love to comp! It's worth it to sign up. The only downfall, Saturday night is the biggest night of the week up there, so go early or stay late if you plan on getting to play what you'd like - it's still packed at 3am. We got in late afternoon and found one of the last spots on the roof of the garage. They do last call around 1:30am so get your drink orders in and finished by a quater-till, cause they will take them even if you don't finish. They still come around with water and RedBull if you still plan on staying up and being first in line at the buffet. The rooms in their HUGE tower are spacious with amazing views of the valley - not so much on the otherside unless you like an up close view of a giant hill. Large bathrooms, comfy beds, iPod docks for clock radios. The rooftop pool is open until 11pm and is amazing - complete with an outdoor hot tub and two fire pits. Room price was a bit steep, $140 on a Sat night, just over $100 during the week, but they are nice. Room service is a joke - just like anywhere else. You get what you pay for though. I'd stay here again, midweek for sure though. read more

There's an app for that...the Ameristar place in Blackhawk. Not that it matters; I'm not a gambler. But the hotel - yikes! Very nice - room, bathroom, meeting rooms. Food served for the meetings - excellent! Had an extremely convivial bartender - Eddie - who made that part of the night just that much better. Views are killer good as are the pools/hot tubs - inside and out! No European bathing though. Friday night there's a band (loud) playing on the first floor - some would say adds to the mood. I found it hard to talk to friends above the din. 34 stories - hidden, practically from view from the road in front and 10 stories of parking - and still we kept driving up and up to 7th. We stayed on the 26th floor - quiet, even for a Friday night. Only complete bummer - word up - the alarm clock went off at 1:45 a.m. while we were asleep - so I hit it and it went off a few minutes later, so I reached around in the dark and yanked the plug out of the wall. I knew the second blam was coming but had so much fun, too tired to yank the first time. Noted Marissa's comments - and that night would've changed me from a fan to a never-again too but as luck would have it (not the gambling kind), we had a really good time. The rooms were clean and well decorated, and had an over-sized bathroom (for a hotel). The fitness facility was outstanding - one of the best I've seen at a hotel. The pool was on the rooftop (covered) and was also very nice. So why only three stars? Well my chief complaint has to do with the lack of activities for those who don't gamble. We stayed here for 3 nights with our 20 year old and 18 year old. There were no activities for them - they weren't even allowed in the restaurants by themselves, which seems absolutely ridiculous. The only couches - where they could hang out and read - were in the lobby. And to add insult to injury :), the free sodas and coffee were even off limits. Every time one of them would walk over to get a coffee, an officer would stop them and escort them out, even though it was literally 5' into the gaming area and on a corner wall. Yeah, I get that there are rules/laws, but they weren't loitering and they weren't attempting to gamble. They just wanted a free soda or coffee. The policing of the soda machines just seemed to be a little over the top. My recommendation here is - great for those who are over 21 and gamble, but stay somewhere else if you have people in your party who are under 21. read more

Casino itself was nice, but it was difficult to communicate effectively with other players at the tables because all I speak is English; felt like I was in a 3rd world country. The majority of slot players spoke even less english. Dealers were ok and a couple were excellent. Perhaps this was an anomaly, but I won't be back to validate it. read more

We stop there every time we pass through Omaha. Our son is enlisting in the Air Force and to be told you don't trust us to just eat and leave is a disgrace. Ameristar Black Hawk is off our list. I was there on the 21st of August . I went to the restaurant called Amerisports Bar. It was before closing so I was happy to get a quick bite after investing lots of money in the casino . The hostess , Kia , said they were closed. It was clearly obvious , it was before closing and I showed her the time. She said they were still closed , regardless of the full restaurant . And I mean it was full.... I told her that we wanted a quick bite and wouldn't take long. Yea, it was 5 min before closing but we were willing to take what ever was available. And honestly, if you say your open till 11pm , you should honor that. She was very rude. I always thought Casinos had food available so players could eat later. The fact she turned us away before closing was really bad for this casino business. read more
