I was up in Black Hawk for the day at a wedding, and while the rest of the town doesn't really look like my kind of place, I really enjoyed the Ameristar. I stuck to the spa and the event center, so I can't say anything about the casino or the rooms, but what I saw was really nice. It's a little more upscale than a lot of the surrounding places, and I have to say they hosted a fantastic wedding. The ceremony was out on the balcony by the spa, and the ballroom served as the reception area. The food for the reception was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend it for someone looking to have their wedding done "all-in-one" somewhere. read more

Best hotel in Blackhawk. We usually stay here if we are celebrating an event- this trip was for mine and hubby's birthday. We also booked a room for my mother in law. Although the check in was a little slow - the rooms were awesome. The casino itself is clean and fun, I just like lower limit tables which you can't usualy find on a weekend and if you do the tables are packed. The cafe was delicious as usual. Stayed here back in December. This hotel was so nice and staff were all so welcoming. Room was terrific with noted all upgrades. The bathroom was big enough for 5 and we were just two. All amenities were great and the VIP lounge was more than expected. This is a small casino but it was well worth my trip out here. The town leaves something to be desired. There weren't any shopping areas just casinos. Restaurants were nice with really good food. The area, Blackhawk, is so beautiful and it was snowing during our visit. read more

Here's the thing. I play poker when I "gamble." Any other casino game is merely taking your shot at getting lucky. The reason I really like this place is their poker rake is less than the Lodge, and it's currently the hot spot to play poker. If you show up after 5 on a weekend night, expect to have to wait. The action here is good, the bad beats are high since their so tough to get to now, and the dealers are some of the best I've encountered in Colorado. The beverage ladies come around often and get your drink to you quick, the parking is easy, access to the casino is easy from the parking garage, and they have a player's card to take advantage of as well. read more

Let me preface this review that I typically don't write Yelp reviews, as I work in the service industry and hate when people leave Yelp reviews without ever letting our business know directly that they had a problem. That being said, I sent an email to the hotel 2 weeks ago to voice my concern, with no reply. So......here goes. Went up for a quick midweek get away. Arrived in our suite to find used dirty towels hanging in the shower, and then used bottle of personal lubricant on the floor next to the bed. Asked to be moved to another room, which we were allowed to do. While I was at the front desk getting new keys, my girlfriend stayed in the room to pack up our things. The "cleaning crew" (which was a man and woman holding hands) came into the room while she was still in there and looked surprised to find her, stating "oops, we were told this room was vacant". Pretty sure we got booked into the employee "break" room, if you know what I mean. Our new room was the same layout, and while we didn't find any used towels or lube lying around, the room was still not very clean. The outline of a person was easily seen from when they'd leaned against the glass above the tub, and there were used coffee creamer containers that had just been swept under the fridge. I think had we just gotten a regular room, the lack of cleanliness would be a little more forgivable, but when you spend the money on a suite, you tend to expect a better experience. read more

NEVER AGAIN! We came here with our large family to visit family close by. Strike 1-They state that they have 5 different restaurants but when you look closer, you can only access them if you are over 21. If you are not over the age of 21 then you have access to only 1 restaurant. Not even the Starbucks can you get into. Strike 2-After checking in very late, I brought my daughter to our room to put her to sleep to find a bug in our bed. They did immediately give us another room. Strike 3-The rooms, (the 3 different ones we have seen) were all very neglected in cleanliness. There was urine on the seat lid, Carpet was FILTHY, food drips in the front on the credenza, and some sort of garbage hanging from the light fixture. The dust in the rooms and on the furniture itself was horrendous! We were truly hoping for better accommodations since they claim to be a 4 star hotel. read more

We needed a quick getaway so we decided, why not? I was very impressed with the room, clean, spacious, modern. There was a HUGE tub to soak in, so I indulged. Decent gambling and the buffet was nice, my husband must have eaten 6 pounds of crab legs. For the price he got what he paid for. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the live band they had playing in the middle of the casino, while fun and played a great variety, we so loud we had to shout to hear each other. I usually only enjoy this when I'm at a concert. I would recommend getting a room here though. Very nice! read more

I really enjoyed my one night stay here with the hubbs. We got a great deal on a standard room on a Monday night. (Tip: Even on a weekday book as soon as you can if you want a king sized bed, they sold out of those real quick.) I got to go to the spa and get a manicure (which was relaxing) while hubbs went and lost $100 on poker. There are a lot of penny slots and the night we went was not very busy. Neither one of us is "into" Vegas so we liked that it was quiet. It's a smoke free facility, an added bonus because as a pregnant woman I do not want to be around cigarette smoke. We also really enjoyed the buffet. It was packed on a Monday so I shudder at the idea of this place on a weekend. My only gripe about Ameristar is that the cost of a standard room on the weekend is the price of a suite on a weekday. That seems insane to me but I guess I'll just never come here on a weekend. I will be back one day, a great little getaway that is only an hour away from home. read more

Without having stayed here, the 5-star rating is really as good as it gets in Black Hawk. I visited here for the first time last weekend to get out of the city for a few hours to meet some friends for brunch and to do some gambling. We had the champagne brunch at the Centennial Buffet, which was really a great experience in itself. The food was very good, and there's more than enough to choose from and the glass champagne doesn't hurt either. Speaking of more than enough, when it comes to gaming, there is something for everybody and the options are plentiful. Everyone at the Ameristar is helpful and friendly. Came here for a bachelorette party. All of the staff was really great. We had no issues with anything at all. The front desk people were great with splitting our room tab as well. The actual rooms were excellent. Very clean! The bathrooms with in great condition too. All in all, a really good first impression. No complaints! Would definitely stay again. read more

Ameristar has gone down hill. Costumer service continues to dive each time we come up. Had a reservation for awhile get here no suite ready. Not a problem at first. Now 8:15 still waiting for a room. Going to miss our dinner reservation. Asked when it would be ready so we can actually enjoy black hawk but guest services response "sorry no clean rooms still". Great glad we drove up to hang out waiting for a hotel room. I guess we will go across and gamble at another casino until they figure it out. Luckily a new casino is opening soon. While I understand the challenges caused by the pandemic, I do not understand why Ameristar charges very high room rates with no room service and NO ability for a guest to purchase so much as a bag of chips or a candy bar without waiting for an hour or more in a long line. When I mentioned this to a "host" at the Fireside restaurant, I was told that "This is a really bad time to be in Blackhawk." Again, a hotel charging over $300 per night and gladly taking money from guests at its casino should be a bit more considerate of its guests. Went up here for a small girls getaway plus we had a coupon for a cheaper hotel rate. THE HOTEL ITSELF: We loved staying here. The hotel is top notch. The rooms are clean and modern. Love the bathroom. Love the pool on the top level. Bed were really comfortable as were the blankets and towels. Only complaint was that the elevators were sooo slow. Waited on average 5 minutes for an elevator and we were only on the 12th floor. Inside the hotel/ casino they have a Starbucks which is nice. THE CASINO: Sometimes they give you good points for comps most the time they don't. I found that you don't seem to get much back when you gamble here. So I always go to the small casinos within walking distance. OTHER AREAS: Their buffet is really good, love the chocolate coverage strawberries I could/ would get a whole plate of those if I want. Don't know if they would let me. All the employees are really nice. Will defiantly go back again when they send me some more coupons to go up and stay at their hotel. read more

A new, very nice hotel with Vegas style gaming. Sort of a Craftsman/Yosemite interior design. Spectacular swimming pool with two whirlpools on the 34th floor! Makes up for lack of video arcade for kids. Very nice rooms that are designed well, with tub and separate shower. Direct TV. Free parking. Appears to be the largest casino in Blackhawk. This place could easily be a 5 star spot if they paid a little more attention to the sports book. If you want to hand out free drinks, that's great. If you want to charge for drinks, that's great too, but if someone has spent thousands at the sports book already don't harass them to play slots. Besides that fact this place was wonderful. People behind the book were great, odds were great, atmosphere was great. My husband and I have been coming to Ameristar since it opened. I have always loved my stays. I received a coupon for a free room. I called to book it and was told they were out of comp rooms and I'd have to pay. A little frustrating but it was only $69.00 and my Birthday so no big deal. They must have put me in the worst room they have! My husband asked for a city view, we got a parking lot view. There was blood on the sheets and couldn't make coffee because the used coffee filter I found was stuck to the coffee maker. I called down to ask for a manager and was told they weren't available. I then got a call from housekeeping, I explained to the girl. She said "Oh I will let a supervisor know." Never got a call back but at that point I just wanted to get out of that nasty room! My wife and I stayed at ameristar in Blackhawk Colorado but won't ever recommend it nor stay there again. We stayed April 30th thru May 2nd. My wife always has her licensed service animal with her which is a Maltese dog. We stayed in one of their bigger suits that was suppose to have been inspected. The morning of May 2nd as I was packing our suitcase I accidentally knocked my cellphone off the dresser and it fell behind it. As I pulled the dresser out I was shocked at was was inbetween the dresser and wall and what was behind it. I stopped and took pictures before I pulled it out all the way. I went ahead and pulled the dresser out all the way so I could get behind it to get my phone and when I raised up from picking up my phone I seen my wife's service dog had something in his mouth that he had picked up behind the dresser. I reached down to take it from him and then noticed it was a baggy of crystal meth. I sat it on the dresser after I got it out of his mouth and had my wife start watching him closely. I looked behind the dresser again and noticed a small change bag like what a woman has in her purse that had what appeared to be residue from crystal meth, tampon, several gloves like dr's wear, a snorting tube with residue on it, a ear ring , players card and so much dust you could tell that it had not been cleaned In several months. We are told that everything at ameristar has been cleaned and disinfected to protect the customers but this is all the proof anyone needs to show the rooms are not even cleaned to their standard before Covid started. I called hotel security and they called the police to do a report. I was told by security that they was writing it up as room damage. Not one hotel/ casino manager ever came up to the room nor have they contacted me to ask how my wifes service dog is doing. This room wasn't cleaned properly, it wasn't disinfected nor was it inspected. I even sent a email in with a description of what happened and pictures of it to penn gaming but they must not care to much about their guest safety and well-being because they haven't bothered to reply. As long as they get your money I guess is what matters. This could have killed my wife's service animal or imagine if a small child got ahold of that. I won't ever recommend this casino / hotel to anyone. Thwasn't completely unacceptable for what happened and unacceptable that no management even cared enough to reach out to us. read more

My first time staying in an Ameristar Resort Black Hawk. Let us start with the good experiences....... Check in was flawless, easy and fast, but it was Sunday afternoon and not a long line. Our room was requested to have a mountain view, which is not hard to do in Black Hawk, and it did have an incredible view! I loved it. Our room was very clean, set up for guests, our bathroom was super clean and actually very nice. Nothing wrong with the bed or the pillows, I liked them and slept like a baby. The pillows are huge, so if you are not a fan of big fluffy pillows, bring your own. There is no room service but you can call down and do a pickup at the restaurant you choose. So, let us talk about eating there....... very disappointing! Ameristar Black Hawk does not have a buffet! I wanted crab legs, so we went to the Monarch Casino and it was scrumptious! Also spent some money at the Monarch Casino. Ameristar does have several expensive restaurants and the very confusing [to me] Centennial Market. At the Centennial Market they have several stations. You must stand in line pick and pay for what you want to eat, before you can sit down. If it was more like a food court it could be so much better. On the Ameristar page it states a delicious dessert bar at the Centennial Market that is all I was interested in since I had filled up at the Monarch buffet, but I wanted a sweet before I went up to my room for the night. There in lies my biggest complaint...... Where is the delicious dessert bar that is advertised on their web site? Actually, there is not a dessert bar.......... my choices were a cupcake, everyone knows what cupcake looks like, right? Or a slice of pie. I ordered the cup cake, what I got was a piece of $6.00 crap, that looked terrible, old and crusty, and tasted even worse!! I took one bite and tossed it into the trash! It was not a cupcake, cupcakes have icing, not pieces of dried up figs pushed into the top of a very small circle of cake with some kind of crap circling it! It was awful. You can not even pick out Chocolate or Vanilla, the man working the cash register ran into I assume the kitchen and brought it out for me. He never offered me a fork or a napkin, I told him I was taking it up to the room, even Taco Bell gives you a fork with your takeout order! Where the Hell is the delicious dessert bar?? When I pay for a cupcake, I expect a cupcake! Yes, that ruined my experience! Casino was clean and cared for, don't expect any servers to bring you drinks, even though I was playing the slot machines I ordered one it never came. Apparently, you must play the tables for that. Next time I will stay at the Monarch Casino. Ameristar your housekeepers are awesome, the service desk is good, even the employees that helped me in the elevator to get to the first floor, [I am disabled] were super nice and smiling, but that dessert thing ruined my night, you should be ashamed, please show your kitchen staff what a cupcake looks like. read more

This is the worst ran casino in the entire world! Some friends and I were asked to leave the blackjack table after being up a few hundred dollars because our cheeks were too rosy after sitting down and having a few drinks from the waitress while playing. We were being nothing but courteous and tipping the dealers on every hand. We then left to go play at another casino but since we were staying the night at ameristar we arrived back and were escorted like criminals back to our room. Stay far far away from thIs place! I would not recommend having a meal at the Fireside cafe. The service was horrible and they really were not busy. The food was even worse. We ended up going up the street to eat after paying for our meal there. The room seemed nice enough when you walk in. After sitting in the room for a minute you notice that housekeeping leaves alot to be desired. Bathroom floor dirty and nothing has been dusted for weeks. I checked into three rooms on 3/22/14. I checked in early so that when my guest arrived late they would have access to their rooms. We'll when they arrived none of our keys worked for any of our rooms. When I went to the desk and had all of my guests wait in the hallway, the desk person told me that it happens often if you put your keys near any electronic device. We'll I had not but in this electronic age is there not a system that does not do this. I stay in hotels often and have NEVER had this problem. When I went to pull my bed down at 4am after playing in the casino I find that my bed linen had not been changed from the previous guests. It was absolutely disgusting. Long hair on a couple of pillows and pubic hair in the bed. You could see the outline of where they had slept. I called down and two gentlemen promptly changed my linen. They also said that this was common depending on how lazy the housekeeper was and they had to deal with this regularly. Wow, a nice looking hotel but lost all confidence in how it's managed and how clean it is. I don't know if I could ever stay here again. Operationally this property needs some serious work. It's a shame that a pretty nice property like this has so many problems, but after trying to speak with someone in charge about my problems I understand why. The Executives make sure that no customers can reach them. I was almost told off by the operator when I tried to call. I told the desk clerk about my linen when I checked out and he offered to comp my deli charge and seemed apologetic. I told him I was not telling him for that reason and did not want it taken off. Maybe at a Best Western but at Ameristar? Big problems. read more

Usually love the Ameristar, but our experience this time was less than stellar. We arrived for check-in at the hotel a little before 5pm and had an event at 6pm that we still needed to get ready / dressed for. We were told that our room wasn't ready yet and wouldn't be for about 15 minutes. Totally not a big deal and we can wait. While we waited, we watched people continue to check in and be given their choice of room location. This tells me that there were obviously other rooms that hadn't been spoken for that were ready. When we returned to the counter around 5:15ish, our room still wasn't ready and I gave them my cell number and the room# of a friend that we would be getting ready in to give us a shout when the room was ready. Still no call at almost 6pm and it turns out when we went back to the front desk (again), that our room was, in-fact, ready - but they forgot to call. Super frustrating. Totally realize they were busy, but after the customer comes back to the front desk multiple times, you would think it would be a priority to make sure they were taken care of. Other issue was housekeeping in our hallway being EXTREMELY loud in our hallway at 4am trying to service the room across the hallway. I can't imagine what housekeeping needed to do at 4am that required that kind of volume. No way to sleep through that with the thin walls. Honestly, before this - never had a bad experience so I am hoping this is just a one-off bad day. read more

Spent a couple nights here as we have for the last 4 yrs on our anniversary, I had mentioned that fact in an email before we arrived. Unfortunately when we opened the door to our room it wasn't the chocolate covered strawberrys that they left us that we noticed first, it was the greasy hand and boob imprints on the very dirty window that stood out. Obviously these things go on in hotel rooms but it's not something you really want to be reminded of when you walk in. There was also random empty and full water bottles under the edges of the bed and the sheets had some stains I them along with the carpet not being vacuumed. We talked to Doug at the front desk who sent someone up to clean the window, but we would have been happier to switch rooms. The second night we got a group of about 8 guys staying on our floor in two seperate rooms. Unfortunately for us one of the rooms was next to ours and they spent the night going back and forth between their rooms slamming the door hard enough to rattle the headboard. We are pretty easy going about stuff but we are contemplating going somewhere else in the future. read more

The casino is nice if you're just going to gamble. The upgraded rooms leave little to be desired. The paper was peeling off the wall in a couple spots, the bathroom had not been completely cleaned considering there were hair clips on the floor when I arrived. The casino floor waitresses do not come around often and you will wait 30 minutes to get a drink you ordered. The buffet is awesome. All you can eat crab legs, however I felt like to the breakfast buffet had items on it from the buffet night before. Room service was delayed in the morning they told me 55-65 minutes for delivery. The casino floor guards are diligent and friendly. My favorite part of the whole weekend was my spa day at ARA. If it weren't for that I would've been completely disappointed. I would suggest anyone booking for Blackhawk book cheaper rooms... you don't really spend any time in them anyway... or at least we didn't. read more

I'm a fan of this beautiful hotel in the mountains. The fitness center and restaurants were fabulous. We experienced amazing service at the late night grill (or should I say 3 a.m. grill), Fireside Cafe and Timberline Grill. The fitness center is clean and upgraded with the finest equipment. The spa is incredible and you can spend the entire day there even if you have just one treatment. The rooftop pool is mostly indoor, but the outdoor area is relaxing as long as you are able to find a lounger. The rooms are beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. I love this place...it's magic in the mountains. Beware: They won't give you late check-out options and the casino slots and tables are the most expensive in Black Hawk. Stay here and gamble elsewhere. read more

This is a very nice hotel with nice rooms and a very fancy swimming pool, etc etc. What isn't nice about this hotel is their customer service. The way I was treated by the guest services supervisor, Eric McWilliams was without question the absolute worst customer service I have ever received. I had booked some rooms about 5 weeks in advance and was given a pretty good rate. I was surprised that the phone transaction had gone so easily and that I did not need to speak to a supervisor or anything. It was agreed that I would pay a single price for both rooms. I found it strange that I did not need to pay at all upfront or anything to reserve the room and that I would be charged upon arriving. When I checked in, I was charged twice for each room and when I went to explain this error to the supervisor, he stated that, contrary to the phone conversation, the quoted price was for each room. They were trying to double charge me and go completely against the prior reservation. In addition to that, the e-mail confirmation I received when I made the reservation did not quote a specific price in the receipt. Why an organization would not provide a price in a receipt is beyond me. When I explained this to the supervisor, I was forced to wait 20 minutes to even speak to someone about this issue. The supervisor lied to me and stated that he made the reservations himself. I know this was untrue because I very clearly spoke with a woman and the supervisor was very clearly a male. He then proceeded to condescendingly tell me that this was my error and took no accountability for the errors of his employees or himself with the pricing. Not only was he rude, but he had no problem admitting that this was absolutely terrible customer service and that he had no problem taking zero accountability for his errors. More than that, he was crass, callous and showed no willingness to do ANYTHING to make my experience better. I requested a refund on my second room as I was unwilling to pay double the initially agreed upon price. It took the supervisor about 20 minutes to issue a simple refund (a process that should have taken no longer than 1 minute). Not only that, but the supervisor did not actually process the refund because the charge was still on my account several days later and had not been refunded. I now have to go through a dispute process through my credit card company. On top of that, it took the staff roughly 20 minutes to find my room at the initial check in and it wasn't even ready. I had to wait an additional 1.5 hours for it to be cleaned and prepared. Nothing was done to accommodate my inconvenience either. If you see the guest services supervisor Eric McWilliams, move quickly in the other direction unless you like being spited on, double charged and talked down to. Great hotel, great rooms, but absolutely the single worst customer service experience I have ever had. read more

This is the go to hotel when I'm in Blackhawk. Always full Fridays thru Sunday so you will want reservations here. The rooms, beds, bathrooms, amenities are the best in town. If your lucky rooms will be as cheap as $130. The restaurant is extremely quiet even when busy. Most of the breakfast menu is great. Breakfast burrito is solid. Breakfast and coffee for 2 is around $30 before tip. read more
