I LOVE Amici's!! The service is always excellent. The bread they give you at the beginning is amazing. The calamari is so crisp and delicious! I love getting the chicken parm or chicken Milanese. Both are flavorful and crispy chicken with just the right amount of cheese! Drinks are great! They have a huge selection of cool martinis! I also enjoy the sangria. It's a great place!! Started out ordering 1 wine off menu, didn't have. Our waitress said they were in process of changing out wines here's new list to choose from. Bottle 2, sorry we don't have that, try this. Appetizer of fondue bread was great. Salad good. Food took a long time to come out. Waitress said they were waiting on filet. Got my filet, started eating it. Tough to cut. Ate a bite, realized there was wood in my steak as I was chewing, thought it was a bone at first. Then when I cut next piece, I could see the full skewer sticking out of steak. Chef came out with an attitude that he could really care less that he could've caused serious harm to me, or the fact there was a hidden stick in my filet. Amici's makes the best soups around! I'm a huge fan of soup. Amici's soups of the day are outstanding and the best I have ever tasted in a restaurant! They make their soups on the creamier side. I have Amici's on my blackberry's speed dial and frequently call them to inquire what the soup of the day is when I'm in Middletown. My top favorite soups at Amici's are: 1. Butternut Bisque - a fall classic and my favorite. Has a slight spice to it. This one sells out fast and is usually on the menu for 3-4 days. Not a better soup on earth than this offering, I say. 2. Pumpkin Soup - another fall classic. Really, really good! 3. Tomato Basil - another gem...again, on the creamy, hearty side. 4. Cream of Mushroom 5. Cream of Chicken I challenge you to find a chef that prepares soups better than the chef at Amici's. I am willing to travel to taste alleged competitors that you propose. read more

I've had really awesome things, and some not so. The chicken gnocchi was not my favorite, but the penne alla vodka is awesome. I do love coming here in the summer, sitting outside and checking out what's going on around town when I get the chance. The patio is beautiful. What a wonderful discovery! We stopped for lunch and were happily surprised. We both had chicken and broccoli (lunch special). It came over Penne Pasta with a wonderful sauce. Let's start with the bowl of cheese that is described as fondue on the menu. We ordered garlic bread with a cheese fondue, and instead of pieces of garlic bread to dip, they simply put a loaf in the bowl of cheese so it is soggy and quite gross when it hits the table. The calamari was mediocre as it was 70 percent cherry peppers (probably to cut costs). The only reason this place is getting 2 stars is because the waitress was quick and attentive and they make a decent drink. Ate here a few weeks back, everything was fair, portions were small. Had mussels for appetizer, sad that we live near shore and this was the best mussels they could get. Lots of empties and skimpy on sauce. Wife told waiter she has dairy allergy, so he helped with selecting main course. But because of her telling him this he didn't bring bread to the table.... Who the heck said I had a dairy allergy ? When I made this clear to him the bread came out like warm dough, no crust, just mush, should have kept quiet. I had the veal, it was ok, but I left hungry, which is odd for an Italian restaurant. After several trips here, we continue to enjoy the very good food, exceptionally broad menu, and friendly knowledgeable service. Their portions are large so we nearly always have a second meal, and the prices are reasonable. This is my favorite local place for Italian food. The eggplant parmesan, chicken parm, and fettucini alfredo are all great. My all time favorite though is Penne Amici. Before you go to Amici's it is important that you clear out your refrigerator. You are going to need a lot of space for all of the leftovers. I often bring home enough of my leftover dinner to get two more lunches out of it. Their calamari and risotto are also always worth a try. I am always impressed by the service there. There is a pretty high turnover, but every new waiter/waitress is very well trained, friendly and attentive. If you are hungry give Amici's a try. read more

I went here for dinner with my husband a few weeks ago. It was very good, probably one of our best Middletown dining experiences. I had the chicken gnocchi, which was delicious. Heavy! But still delicious. My husband had a special, I can't remember exactly what was in it but he was very happy with his dish. We originally sat inside, and the atmosphere isn't that great - the music in particular was pretty horrible. But we moved outside and it was much more pleasant for us. read more

This is one of my all time favorite places to go for Italian. It never fails be exactly what I want. The focaccia bread they serve is always soft, warm and fresh. I usually go for the fettucini Alfredo with chicken. Oven ever had better to be honest. The portions are huge. I also love their baked ziti that comes with sausage. I always have leftovers. I ate here over the past weekend with some friends of mine. My friends had Penna Ala Vodka and Chicken Milanese and I ordered Chicken Marsala. My dish was not bad but it was not the best Chicken Marsala I have ever had. I have dined here several times before coming again this weekend and during previous visits I have ordered Stuffed Shells or Chicken Pamesan which were both excellent. My friend who ordered the penne liked his meal and the other friend who ordered the chicken dish was not crazy about hers. I will return again. read more

Amici is always our favorite place to go on Cruise night and has been for the past several years. They serve you with great customer service, and oversized, flavorful portions. Usually, we always get the same waiter who is very friendly and treats us like family. I am only giving Amici a 4 star rating because tonight I was surprised about a few things. Usually when you get seated, you get served with great warm rustic bread and fresh roasted garlic. To our surprise, this was no longer a tradition here and now they just serve the bread with butter. Obviously, that's how most places now do it too, but that was one of the things we've always loved coming to Amici's for. Second, I ordered an appetizer for my entree with a side of linguini aglio e olio. When I ordered it, the waitress asked what sauce I wanted which was surprising because aglio E olio translates to garlic and oil. When I said that I just wanted garlic and olive oil, that's what I received and it was more than delicious. However, when we got the bill we were charged $9.50 for a side of pasta with oil and garlic listed as $4.95 on the menu because it "costs extra with a sauce" even though it's listed with garlic and oil. I didn't want to argue with her so we just paid the extra $5, but hopefully that is fixed for the future. We will still definitely come back, and hopefully the roasted garlic will be back too! read more

I don't understand why this restaurants is not unbelievably busy. Every time we go there during the week it's less than half full. I just don't get it! Went for a going away party and sat outside. Atmosphere was very nice. One of the ladies had a Bloody Mary that was very watery looking and she did not order another one. I had a salad...I think it was called a Mediterranean salad, with grilled chocked. The chicken did have grill marks on it but it was very soft and mushy with no flavor whatsoever. The rest of the salad had very hard pink tomatoes....in AUGUST...height of fresh tomato season...cucumbers, and a small handful of Greek olives and a small handful of cold roasted garlic. The other folks I was with had all had better lunches elsewhere. They do not serve their lunch menu on Saturday ....dinner menu is used from lunch on through dinner which disappointed more than a few. I would not go back......food just wasn't good enough to warrant another visit. Service was great! read more

Delicious food - very dated décor (not a big deal). However, the service was excellent and again, the food was so yummy. I had the Chicken Christina and would definitely order it again. The sauce was savory, the chicken cooked perfectly, and the fresh mozzarella made it! The calamari was aslo excellent - it's served "Rhode Island Style" - as I know it - with cherry and banana peppers. The batter was light and the calamari was perfectly tender - not chewy at all! I have been to amici's many many times and I feel that they have lost their touch..what used to be my favorite place for stuffed mushrooms is just something now I can whip up at home...the veal parm I could die for there is now something of the past.. I dunno how often they change chefs or if they are even that knowledgeable of italian cuisine but its getting worse and worse as I go there..even the staff doesn't have the same enthusiasm as they did before and you would feel like you were at home in the past.. I hope they get back to basics and making good food again bc for the most part I enjoyed my experiences there!!! read more

I guess this restaraunt used to be good, but like many places, the quality has gone WAYYYYYYY downhill. I've eaten there twice (gave it another shot) and both times the entrees looked like glorified microwaveable TV dinners. That being said, the experience was made worse by someone (who I can only believe is the owner) talking down to his staff (yelling) right in front of us. Really unprofessional, and come to find out this place was sued years back for ripping its employees off. amicis is nice, and trying real hard to be one of the "nicer" places on main street in middletown. i love italian food and what they do here is good, but it didnt blow my mind. a lot of nice italian places do ok food and charge a lot for it - this is one of those places, not cheap for what you get. maybe part of my disappointment all my past trips to amici is the lack of good vegetarian choices - most everything has meat in it, and their sauces all had meat too. i know a lot of italians - from italy - who are vegetarian, so i know its not unreal to expect some vegetarian italian entrees! overall the atmosphere is nice, romantic, intimate - in the warmer months they have seating outside (like most other main street eateries now..) read more

This was my first time here and all I have to say is yummy, yummy, yummy! My friend who lives in middletown chose this place for dinner on a Friday night. I gave the restaurant points because they had nice jazz music playing outside which I thought was very cool. There is a small bar area as you walk in with a few little booths. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the hostess. The ambiance is very "jazzy" I'll say. (haha) Great for dates or just eating with friends. The crowd actually was not a "college" crowd which I thought it would be seeing as how they are close to Wesleyan. The lighting is dim and they have this great mirror near the front that I would love to put in my dream home. We were seated right away. Friday night around 8pm the placed was packed! It was fairly noisy but not to the point where you couldn't hear what the person next to you was saying. There was a decent selection of wine for pretty reasonable prices. Their food menu however was huge! So many items to choose from but in the end I ordered shrimp scampi ($19 comes with a salad) with a glass of canaletto veneto ($7.25). While we waited for our food our waitress brought out a basket of bread with garlic. These breadsticks taste WAY better than the ones at that popular "italian" food chain that shall not be named. The salad was pretty standard (not quite sure how you can mess up a salad!) My shrimp scampi on the other hand was delicious! Great portion (although it was way too much for me....once again I took home leftovers) For those of you who are like me and can't finish adult size portions you may want to look at the kids menu. Those meals are still a good size but more realistic if you don't have a huge appetite. Now they did have a dessert menu but I was way too stuffed to try anything. Our waitress was very friendly and although we looked around for her a few times I figure she was busy with other customers. My sister and I have already planned to return in a few weeks. Sadly this restaurant is not what it used to be. They used to have the best bread and now they have a new kind that is old and stale (even after ordering a second time). I got the penne ala vodka and this time I was extremely disappointed. The taste was bland/tomato paste and my father's dish was unacceptable. Not only was it cold but the egg on top was raw (the white was actually runny). After letting the waitress know we still received a bill for over $100 and they comped nothing. Clearly something has drastically changed here and I will not be returning. The only good thing about this birthday dinner was martinis. Finally sat down to a dinner at Amici's. I wouldn't call it a bargain restaurant but for my husband and I, dinner came out to be approximately $60.00. We started with an appetizer of fried mozzarella and their complimentary bread with a garlic head. For dinner, I had Scrod Piccata and he had Chicken Marsala. Unfortunately, there was a hair in my husband's mashed potatoes. When he told the waitress, she quickly apologized, whisked the plate away, and came back with a completely new dinner, hair free. The waitress informed us that the manager apologized and offered us free dessert. By the time we got to dessert, we were stuffed, but we ordered the creme brûlée. They put fresh vanilla in it and the carmelized sugar on top was amazing. It was very sweet but it tasted amazing. I would recommend it if ou have a sweet tooth! Even though we had the minor setback mentioned, it was a great dinner and I would highly recommend this restaurant! read more
