Okay first I will start by saying being italian and from NY I am extremely picky about Italian food. I rarely go out for Italian because I can usually make it better at home. That being said... 1. Food was generally pretty good. Dined with 3 other people that were happy with their food. I ordered pasta in garlic and olive oil with sundried tomato, roasted red peppers, artichoke, and olives. Was pretty good. My Fiancé ordered the Gorgonzola chicken pasta and it was passable. My mom ordered chicken christina and she said she gives it an 8/10. My dad got the pork chops and he gives them an 8/10. If you want a solid and decent pasta meal go for amicis. The french press coffee was delicious! The salad was underwhelming. Skip dessert. Did I go to the same place as these other yelpers? Friday evening place wasn't even busy. That tells me that people know better. Immediately seated outside. Ambiance was nice. Our waitress was awful. My girlfriend in fact had an awful experience with her before. Salads took 25 minutes to come out drinks 20 minutes. Salad was fine. 25 minutes after our entrees arrived. My rare tuna was well done. After fifteen minutes I was finally able to flag down someone to take it back. My girlfriend shared with me untill a new one came out....fifteen minutes later. I had lost my appetite. Had a few bites. Bland. As I'm paying they offer me a free dessert. Seriously? After making me wait for 2 hours for an expensive frustrating meal!? I recently went here on Christmas Eve with a party of 15. This was the first time we went out as a family with all our kids since Covid so it was exciting but a little nerve-racking as well. Our server was absolutely excellent. She made sure our drinks were filled at all times And she made sure all her needs were met. The food was really great as well. Absolutely no complaints. What took me aback is towards the end of the meal. Our children started to get a little rowdy so they started getting up and wandering the restaurant, an older lady came up to us five or six times yelling at not only me, but also my three and four year-old children to sit down and stop touching stuff, I'm not too sure what her position at the restaurant was, but it definitely seemed as if she worked there. I asked our server what her issue was and our server just kept apologizing to us, and I could tell she was super embarrassed over the older ladies actions. I understand in the best scenario you wouldn't have children wandering around the restaurant, however, you are in the industry in which this may happen so yelling at your customers, for it is very unprofessional. I greatly appreciate our server for not only making sure all of our needs were met before the incident, but then continuously checking on us afterwards after she saw how uncomfortable we were if it wasn't for our server, we would probably never come back. read more

Recently had dinner at Amici's with my (adult) kids. As usual, the food was plentiful and good. Everyone had enough for lunch the next day! We had a wide range of entrees; chicken, steak tips, pasta, salmon that all proved to be flavorful and filling. We had a shared appetizer, calamari with a lot of peppers but tasty! I've been here twice so far. The first time was with a group of friends for a holiday dinner party and the second time was for my anniversary. I love the decor and how inviting the restaurant is.. Although upon entrance, it doesn't seem very welcoming as it is dark and the bar is tucked away to the left but the dining area is spacious and comfortable. The drinks from the bar are pretty overpriced. My fiancé ordered a vanilla old fashion and for $11, it was basically a shot of bourbon OTR. The bread given is very good! My fiancé and myself both ordered the onion soup which was delicious! My fiancé ordered steak and potatoes, he requested the steak to be medium rare and it was rare.. The potatoes are very good! For myself, I had requested chicken alfredo. It wasn't listed on their dinner menu, but it is available on their lunch menu and they were willing to make that for me. The portion was large and enough for 2 meals. The sauce itself was not your typical alfredo sauce. Personally, when I think of alfredo, I think of a rich, creamy, cheesy sauce. This sauce was a cream based sauce but I couldn't really taste cheese, it was light but I wouldn't call it a typical alfredo. read more

I recently partook in their "to go" family dinner meal offerings; the adjusted approach due to covid 19. What I liked: food was good, nice foil pans with covering, fast service. What I didn't like includes the extra fancy bags the guys door into. In the old days I might save that bag for shopping, but in the days of a deadly virus it's trash. On that note, in the days of a dying planet, I'd prefer a bag that decomposes in less than 10,000 years. The bigger ding comes in regard to the transaction around the meal in buying while at the same time trying to keep myself and my elderly parents alive. When I called in my order, I was not allowed to give my credit card number so that I could avoid this dangerous interaction. Every pizza joint in the world can do over the phone transactions, not sure why this place can't. Overall, the person with whom I spoke seemed more interested in going home (as she told me they were closing in 15 minutes though they advertised the day before of being open later, and my inquiry about curbside delivery seemed like it wasn't what she preferred). So in a time when I imagine that businesses want to build their to go business, AND assure customers that they appreciate how the virus spreads and how risky public interpersonal transactions are, I would think that a bit more attention be given to those things. We came here for lunch with our two kids after going to kid city. They were great with the kids, 5 and 2 years old, and the food was delicious. I had the lasagna which had great flavor. Well I guess I jinxed myself with my last review. I have had three bad lunches at amchis since. The first one was the andouille sausage sandwich. The sausage was beyond greasy. Then I had the steak Caesar salad which was extremely small. Then two weeks ago my last straw, I ordered the meatball grinder special. It was horrible. I threw half of it away. I paid 6.75 for the grinder (it was a weekly special), but ordered a side of fries. The side of fries was 5 bucks! It also came in a very small container. We met some friends here the other night for dinner and there were mixed reviews. The bread was good but needed to be toasted. My husband and I got the baked penne and chicken Milanese which we both thought were really good! The chicken was crispy and the lemon sauce was delicious. My friend got linguine and clams but they were tiny canned clams and she didn't eat much of it. The portions were fairly large but I did feel it was a little overpriced. Love, love, love the specials! Appetizers are large enough for a nice smaller sized meal - have eaten here over 40-50 times! The prices are average for a lovely sit down restaurant; nothing that I would consider outrageously expensive, especially considering the high quality and caliber of the food. No- I do not know owners, but really love everything about this place! Used to live 3-4 blocks away: one reason why I've eaten here so often, but is ALWAYS really good and consistent- No longer living walking distance, but still eat here at very least every other month. Food is hand-made, not pre-made restaurant product, like junk sold in so very many other restaurants today and they are very accommodating to food allergies (the cook has prepared special meals for me with my soy allergy on more than a few occasions!) Occasionally when nearby Wesleyan U has parent activity or graduation, place gets really crowded with children/families(especially dining room) but overall still a nice place to eat, drink and socialize and well worth any little wait to be seated. We often sit either at bar area-smallish but cozy (3 tables /8-10 stools at bar), bartenders are almost all very welcoming, knowledgeable and chatty (in a good way!) or outside (large shaded area with great view of downtown Middletown & smoking is still allowed!) Highly recommendable for good food and great Italian food (I am 100% Italian and sauce and meat balls are like gramma's!! And how many Italian restaurants can you go to nowadays where you can actually get anchovies on your salad!?! The daily risotto specials are to die for! Was there last night with my husband, we have gone for decades I am gluten sensitive And often choose the gluten-free penne dish. For years it has said that their plates are color-coded to let you know that you have gluten free - my experience has not seen any colored plates for a couple years I haven't spoke up until last night. As I'm not feeling well today I question as I did last night whether I did have gluten free-the waitress seemed clueless & then somebody else came out I don't know who she was and didn't seem to understand anything and then finally the owner came out and was very ignorant -walked away and shook his head from my table. we won't be back. read more

After previously submitting my review of two stars, Angelo contacted me apologizing for my inconsistent experiences and that they are striving to improve therefore based on that I have increased the rating to a three and will be back to try again. Thanks Angelo! I keep coming back hoping for some changes but it's not happening, for me anyway. The bar is so small and the bartenders we keep getting are kind of slow and lackadaisical when it comes to getting you your drink order quickly or even asking you for your order for that matter. The food has yet to impress, yes they do have some unique and essential Italian dishes albeit nothing ever really stands out when I'm there. I was recently there for a rehearsal dinner and I had the chicken marsala as did a couple others. Each piece of chicken was a different size and different consistency. One would be chewy, the other cooked to perfection and the sauces all tasted different as well. I commend them for making it to order but one sauce would have little to no mushrooms while the other was bursting with them, one sauce was salty like the top fell off, the other watery and bland. I've had a couple other meals there and again, if the prices weren't so high I would enjoy the food a little bit more and the experience but I just can't see paying what I pay, receiving so little and different each time. read more

This used to be my go-to on a Friday or Saturday night for a hearty meal and great service. There were a couple long-time servers that we got to know and loved coming back to see. Since they renovated and redid the menu the food and service have gone downhill. The quality of food has become average at best. The last time I was there was on a slow night during the week (only 1 or two other tables to serve) and the waitress was extremely slow with everything. Took 30 minutes just to get our salads. I asked her to bring out our main dishes since we were trying to catch a movie and the 30 minute wait for the salads put us behind schedule. She proceeded to chat with another staff member for another 5 minutes before heading back to the kitchen to put in the order. Very dissapointed to say I will not go back again. read more

Dinner with friends sat night. Unimpressed. I cant remember the name of the dish i had..veal and shrimp in a wine sauce. Veal was tough, wine sauce was too sweet, grilled asparagus was barley cooked. Ordered desert. Chocolate raviolis, which they stated they made on premises. I think they were frozen. additionally, it came with a scoop of of ice cream, and the ice cream was clearly pre scooped / pre portioned, which means that its did not taste fresh and had a freezer burned texture. read more

I will probably give them a second try because everyone has a bad night, but we were very disappointed. She had chicken. I had steak. My sister's exact words, "I'm pretty sure this chicken was frozen an hour ago". My steak was so tough I could barely cut it with a knife. I have a bit of an odd review. The food was very good! I had the shrimp scampi. The shrimp were very large and very tasty. The noodles were cooked well and the sauce was delicious. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean, although sparsely decorated. I only gave 2 stars because I had 2 "really?" moments. The first was while dining on the patio. The beer I was drinking ended up having a fly land in it. No big deal, it's all part of outdoor dining. I estimate I drank between 60-70% of it when this happened. I let the waitress know and she came back with a fresh, non buggy beer. My "really?" moment came when the beer she brought back ended being a little over half full. Without me saying anything, she explained I drank "most" of the other beer, so they filled it up with the difference of what was left in the other one. I was quite surprised. The second moment was when we got the bill. On my dish, I had asked for some capers to give it a little more flavor. When I asked the waitress for this, she said it would be a little upcharge. I thought ok, no big deal. When we got the bill, it ended up being a $1.00 charge. Not a large cost, just more then I expected I guess. All in all it was ok. The food was very good but I left feeling like I had been nickel and dimed. With all the italian restaurants in the area, I'm sure I can find one with comparable food that will leave me with a smile when I leave. read more

I've been here a few times over the years, usually for a girls' nights/birthdays. Food and drinks have been consistently good. I like that even though the dining room is the dining room is quite large and 5-8 of us can sit in a high back corner booth and not distract/or be distracted by other diners. We've never been rushed and have always had good service. Not a lot of places do eggplant parm well, these guys do. Also a nice spot to hit up later in the eve for drinks or al fresco dining. This past fall a friend and I were strolling by after dinner at another establishment and Amici's was more than happy to let us have just drinks outside (they have heated outdoor seating) . Granted, it was late in the season and there were plenty of open tables but still, our waitress didn't seem to mind and we tipped her well. read more

Amici's has consistently good Italian food. It is one of the few places that still has veal on the regular menu which always makes my husband happy. I have enjoyed a number of different dishes and never been unhappy with the choice. Prices are in the 15-30$ range. Service is attentive and friendly. We were two couples trying out Amici in Middletown the past weekend. First, we were told by the hostess on the phone very flatly that they don't do reservation fewer than 6 people. When we got there around 6pm, we were seated almost promptly. The hostess weren't too happy when we didn't want to sit behind a group who were celebrating a wedding shower group. Instead we were seated in front of a group who was a more mature group. The menu looked interesting. Our server was Shannon. She was attentive, prompt and courteous. She brought our soup and salads first. She paced our food so that we weren't rushed to finish the soup and salads hurriedly. My spouse had a veal dish with a pasta on the side. I had seafood bolognese. It was a good size portion that I had to take home half. Our guests had a lobster ravioli and baked scrod with spinach. They were satisfied except Gerry had some of my spouse's pasta side. We also had two cannoli to share and they were good. We finished with three coffees. On the overall, we were satisfied with the food and service minus the cold hostess in the front. The ambiance was impressive but it was loud around us when the acoustic did not help. Randomly found myself here for Sunday lunch. Service was very prompt, but we never felt rushed. The menu seemed to be standard Italian fare. Some items were on the pricey side though. The featured appetizer was a delicious-sounding mushroom risotto but it was $16! Most of the other appetizers were between $7-$11. Our place to go on the weekend to grab a bottle of wine or two and just chill on the street from their amazing main street patio. Usually just get the apps but have had the diners and they are good. Not great but they are huge. Be prepared to take leftovers. Not ideal if you are going somewhere else after for a drink. Calamari is amazing. The Aioli and cherry peppers make it.
