BEST CHICKEN PARM SANDWICH ANYWHERE! I have been literally everywhere and love chicken parm that is how I judge places. I have taken people from different companies I have worked for, to Amici Trattoria. They all agree it is FANTASTIC! Running joke is that we all say we will only eat half the sandwich take the rest home for dinner... NOPE NEVER EVER happens we eat all of it! Best bread, best chicken, best sauce all in one sandwich. Stopped in on a Saturday night and was wowed by how delicious our meal was. We started with the Tuscan-style white beans with spinach and sun-dried tomatoes and the dish was sublime. Hearty and perfectly seasoned. Tasted as though it had been made in Florence, Italy! Our Salsiccia & Pollo Zafferano risotto was creamy, cheesy and filled with perfectly sliced pieces of chicken, andouille sausage, artichokes, peas and roasted red peppers. Having lived in Shrewsbury since 1991, Amici's was always a favorite destination. When we lived close to the center of town, we would walk to Willy's or Amici's. The food and service were always excellent. In 2002 we moved about 2 miles away but still in Shrewsbury. We visited Amici's on a quiet Monday evening only to be disappointed. I ordered lasagna...going with a solid definite. Yikes! It looked like a pile of mucky orange dirt! When ordering lasagna, I expect to see layers of pasta, cheese, sauce, meat, etc. It didn't happen. It was served as an Italian "Blob." The price? $16.99. The service was also lacking. We sat at the bar, granted the bartender was very good looking, but he was more attentive to the girl who wanted to chronicle her recent softball game. Such a disappointment. Next time we have a hankering for Italian, we will seek out another venue, Olive Garden would be an improvement! read more

We all enjoyed the tasty food. Portions were generous but dinner plate was too small to accommodate my husband's Frutti di Mare. It was difficult separating the muscles from the tagnatelle as it over powered the seafood and made it difficult to get either onto the fork without food going over the edges of the plate. I was visiting a friend in the area and we decided to get Italian for lunch OMG, I eat Italian out all the time but this by far was the best. We got garlic bread to start. Excellent, very garlicky and crisp. My friend got catalonia, she said it was fabulous and I took a taste and agreed. I love Risotto, I got the pine nuts, spinach and sun dried tomato. Fantastic! Large portion. I ate half for the lunch and took the rest back to my hotel and couldn't wait to eat the rest for dinner. We love this place. It is a very small restaurant with dark lighting. Perfect for a date. The food is outstanding. Everything I have tasted there has been better than the next item. My wife gets the chicken broccoli ziti every time we go there. She says it is so good that she just can't bring herself to try something new. It is a bit on the pricey side, but with good reason. You get what you pay for there. We are happy to pay what they ask. I marked off that it is not a good place for kids, just because it is a small restaurant and the tables are close together. It is also more of a date place than a family place. I have been there with kids and bigger groups (7 of us) and they were able to accommodate us without much trouble. If your kids are well behaved then do not fear taking them here. One another positive note, the service is excellent. My brother in law is mildly retarded and will only order chicken fingers when we go out to eat. They did not have chicken fingers on the menu, but when he ordered that they did not miss a beat. They told us they did not have them, but would go next door to their other restaurant (Willys Steakhouse, also excellent) and get them from there. That was a great move and cemented our opinion that they are a class act. read more

Amazing all around. Came in for brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Cute, small and intimate place. Not super busy when we came in. We were greeted right away by the sweetest lady. Our order was taken and the food was brought out in no time. Our waitress was the sweetest and wanted to make sure our needs were met. Price is on point. This used to be a five * review. I'm updating it today, April 2016. Amici has been my favorite Italian restaurant for years. I've recommended it to plenty, and returned time and again. I used to look forward to Worcester Restaurant week just so I could go and see what they had created. Sometimes I wonder if being in the restaurant industry my expectations are higher than they should be. My husband and I have always enjoyed Amici Trattoria in Shrewsbury. Tonight we took our daughters since it is the last Saturday we are all together before my oldest leaves for college. Greeted immediately upin being seated. From there service went south! Watched our server laughing with people at the bar all the while ignoring us. Watched her chatting it up with her co-workers throughout our visit. If you've been to Amici you know it's not large....3 booths and maybe 5 or 6 tables plus bar seats, she was not busy. - had to ask hostess for more water, vecause we couldn't get her attention - no follow up once salad and apps arrived to see how everything was, - entrees took 40 minutes...not once did it seem to phase our server to let us know there was a delay or to even check on us, when we finally got her attention we asked for ticket time, then the manager came over, we talked to him, he apologized and offered desserts on house Upside - the food was very good not servers fault food took so long Will not be returning. As I always say food can be the best but poor service no excuse. And I left her a note with a tip to match the service. read more

One the reasons why the burbs are better than the city - ok, the ONLY reason why the burbs might be better than the city - is that going out to eat is a fraction of the price! The caveat is, the food probably doesn't measure up. But this place did! We started with some martinis - I had the lemon drop - and they were quite good. They could totally take on some pretentious Martini from Match, for example. Then, we had an appetizer (calamari, meh, I have had better), and gnocchi (MMM!! Deliciously filling PMS satisfying potatoey goodness), 2 cappuchinos, and a ginormous slab of tiramisu. Damage? $60! Totally worth it. Plus, you know, Shrewsbury is kind of cute on that one block; we went for a walk in a very old cemetery after... it was a nice date. read more

This place came highly recommended. What a disappointment! The dining room is cute...but small. They pack you in like sardines. When we sat in our booth the table was terribly wobbly, the waitress can over and seemed a bit annoyed that she had to shim the table. The white wine was warm. The entrees were 'meh'...not great but OK. For the money we spent we wanted to be wowed! It was our son's birthday so I asked for a slice of cake with a candle, when we were done our meal. Another person, not our waitress came over with the cake right in the middle of our dinner. We had to shoo her away, ruining the surprise. All in all it was not a good experience. And to add insult to injury, we asked for a doggy bag, the waitress packed less than half of our leftovers. We left feeling ripped off, then when we realized we got half of our leftovers, we felt doubly ripped off. We will not be going back any time soon. read more

Amici is a hidden gem in the center of Shrewsbury. It's one of those not-so-fancy restaurants but it is where all the locals go. We decided last minute to go out to dinner and thought we would try this restaurant. It was Saturday night about 7:30 so as you can imagine it was their busiest time. There were no tables or booths available but we were offered a seat at the bar to wait for one. After sitting there for a few minutes since were comfortable we decided to have dinner at the bar. The bartender was efficient and friendly. She served us beverages, brought warm bread and EVOO which was delicious. We both ordered Chicken Parmesan. It was probably the very best chic parm I've ever had. The waitress served right after it came out of the oven and it was nice and hot! It was a generous portion as we both took 1/2 home. The price was reasonable. We highly recommend - suggest making reservations. read more

Went to the Trattoria last night for dinner and hoping for a delicious Italian meal which I have experienced there in the past, unfortunately it was a total letdown. The service was less than fair, The waitress was uninterested and couldn't be bothered or do anything to go out of her way to make sure that anyone in the restaurant was enjoying their meal basically drop it and run. The food arrived and I thought...had i ever eaten at Olive Garden... It probably would've been better than this. Sauce had no flavor tasted like it was frozen Stouffers meal. The fish special was laden with salt... Just not good but of course the waitress never returned until it was far too late to say that something was wrong. The moral of the story is-not a place I would ever return to. I even called and left a message for the manager today-I did not receive a call back. Not looking for any money or anything back just to let them know that they should tune it up and that they might want to know this personally from a customer.... Well this is what happens when you don't return a phone call to a customer you end up with a sour review on yelp. Sad but true. read more

I've only had the pizza and only gotten it as takeout. But the pizza is seriously AMAZING. While I prefer the "regular" version, their thin-crust is really good too. I'm very picky and have my quarks when it comes to food but the staff has always been very nice and accommodating. I'm a huge pizza lover and I'm always trying new places and although I haven't gotten to them all yet, this place is by far the best pizza in Shrewsbury that I've ever had. read more

Heard good things about this restaurant for years. Met a friend for lunch recently. I was impressed at the service, quality of ingredients and interesting menu. Portions seemed large. We split a sandwich (pesto chicken) and a small antipasto salad and we still had leftovers. I don't usually eat much bread but the homemade bread on the sandwich was so delicious I couldn't resist. The place is small , dim and very cozy. Friendly staff. Our waitress was very helpful and had great recommendations. Parking was a bit crazy for Thursday night, parked at the bank next door. We had the delicious and crispy calamari with yummy dippings for starter. For dinner , I had the lobster and shrimp risotto with fresh tomatoes. It was deliciously creamy but a bit salty . Came here for breakfast to give it a try. The food was pretty good. I had the homemade hash, which was fantastic. I'm a big fan of hash, this was right up there with the best. Two poached eggs, done perfectly. The disappointment was the ubiquitous home fries. They were free of flavor and texture. They seemed like over boiled potatoes that were put on the grill with a little paprika for color. They should have been seasoned and left on the grill a lot longer to get a little color and crunch. Some onions would be nice, but I know not everyone would agree. I will be back. Menu had lots of nice options on it and the prices very reasonable. The food was pretty good, but the service was not so much. We went in for dinner tonight, and the staff sat us rather quickly. They almost immediately came over to take a drink order, but then pretty much just vanished. We sat for over 15 minutes without a menu, or silverware before someone finally came over to drop off the drinks. And then, nothing. 10 or so minutes later, the waitress came by and asked if we would like to see a menu. We had already used our phones to lookup the menu, so we placed our order right then. We sat for over an hour before anybody came by again, and this was only after going up and asking for someone to check on our food. They told us they were plating it, and brought it over within a minute. When the food did arrive, my wifes was way too hot, and mine was just luke warm. At least the food was good. The service was bad enough that I probably won't return. I knew something must have been going on in the kitchen, when I had gone to use the restroom, and on my way through the restaurant, I noticed, not one table had food on it. Dinner was very good! The food was flavorful and the bread is delicious soft and warm. Unfortunately the manager that was working the night we were there was the worst. She was downright mean. We waited 45 min for a seat which we didn't mind since it was a Friday night. We ended up waiting for over an hour for our meals. Again we didn't really mind since the food is always good but we just wanted to check in with the waitress to make sure they didn't completly lose our order. She then sent the manager over. The manager was unbelievably rude and borderline agressive. We are not confrontational people so we were very caught off guard by her behavior. I can say we will never be back here. Cambridge transplants. Amici's is great for sitting at the bar and having a martini. Somebody has to convince the chef not to put so much sauce on his dishes. Like cologne/perfume, less is more. Pizza is great (a rare find in MA), but too expensive. Staff is hot and cold - sometimes full of themselves, other times pleasant. We'll go there for convenience (3 times a year at most, and we live here), but would more readily eat east of town. And that doesn't necessarily mean Boston - Romaine's in Northborough and Tomasso's are great! read more

Just had dinner there and I must say it was EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTING. I ordered the special, Paella Sardinia and specifically asked if it was spicy. The young waitress said "not at all".....well it was really spicy AND salty so I barely touched my plate. In the meantime we saw our waitress once (the place was NOT busy). She finally asked how our meal was and I told her it was too spicy and she asked if I wanted something else. At this point everyone else was done with their meals so I said no thanks. WHEN A FULL PLATE GOES BACK TO THE KITCHEN, ONE WOULD THINK THAT A MGR WOULD INQURE. Nope, nothing, nada ,zip....because of that I won't go back, which is too bad because the calamari was fantastic.
