The place is really small but very quaint - pro. The food is average, at best. My husband ordered the braciole and had to send it back because it tasted like someone poured Windex into it. I ordered the margarita pizza. On the menu, it clearly confirms that it is prepared with red tomato "sauce", basil and mozzarella. Much to my chagrin, the lame and clueless chef didn't put tomato sauce on it, rather, they smothered it with loads of unripened tomato slices which basically soaked the pizza and made it inedible. The waitress said that sometimes they opt to prepare it that way. Well - that's nice! If it says on the menu that it is prepared with tomato sauce, that's what they are obligated to serve you! We didn't have time to send it back so they gave us a free dessert and didn't charge us for the pile of gloppy slop. Doubtful we will be back. read more

We called to ask if there was a wait time because we were a party of 8, and it was Saturday night. The lady told us on the phone that we were in luck, and they could seat us within 10-15 minutes. We were only 5-10 minutes away, so we hurried over. When we arrived, however, they told us that they could not seat us for two hours no matter what! However, we believe the mistake was theirs because a party of four right ahead of us had just been sat at a huge table set for eight. I've gone here a couple of times now, an it's a total gem! The wine list is decent but not great, and the house cocktails are fairly modern and fruity. I've only ever seen two bartenders there, one is a delightful young girl with short black hair who really knows her stuff and is very personable, the other is a bro that seems to be in it for the tips, but is still pleasant. The food there is great but sometimes lacks in presentation due to the amount of sauce they use. I'd love to see them cut down the menu a little and really elevate their strongest dishes, the menu is about 8 pages long and is a hodge podge of American/Italian favorites. I'd love to see a menu that better reflects the Chef's passion for food, rather than have "something for everyone." read more

I Used to give them 5 stars. Not sure what has changed at this place. Ownership? Chefs? I've gone 3 times in 2 mos. Won't be going back. Once was for a dessert and coffee. My husband and I have dined at this Shrewsbury staple many times and always loved the food. However, last night we were greatly disappointed. Apparently there is a new chef and/or owner. We both ordered risotto. My husband ordered the risotto with chicken and prosciutto. First the rice was exactly that-rice. Not arborio rice which is the Italian rice used to produce the creaminess that risotto is known for.This rice was dry and tasted as though it was made with a canned broth which explains the extreme saltiness. Prosciutto alone is not that salty. I ordered the risotto primavera. Made with the same rice, dry and had no flavor as if it were made with water. Not even onion or garlic. Veggies were mostly sliced carrots, some red and green peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, 4 types of mushrooms. Used to have peas and corn as well. The house salad and bread were still good. The owner said they ordered the same supplies they always have. That may or may not be but the new chef needs to learn what Italian food is supposed to taste like. We will never return. Sad to lose a great restaurant. The menu is smaller too and service is slow. Did not recognize any of staff and some of the old staff had been there since they opened. read more

My wife has been wanting to try this place as my daughter and her BF go there a lot. Went early with her and our daughters on a Sat as their small and don't take reservations. Were seated immediately and started with some drinks. No draft, just bottled beer. I had the haddock, wife had the veal saltimbocca, one daughter had a vegetable risotto and the other a shock ken, broccoli and angel hair. All were delicious, wife raved about her veal. My haddock was very good; thought the breading was a little 'mushy' and didn't really care for it. We Live in Shrewsbury and have eaten at this excellent Italian restaurant. We have never had anything less than an excellent meal - well prepared at reasonable prices. The thin Crust Pizza is Perfect and the Pasta Bolognese with Meat Balls is huge - beautifully prepared and the meat balls have excellent texture and taste. The price was reasonable and the food was acceptable, but something more important was missing. We went there for dinner one time and later were shocked to find out that we were being overcharged by $10 on the tip. I called the restaurant to complain, but the manager said it was simply a careless mistake on the waiter's part - would that convince you? The manager told us the main manager would give us a call back and offer an explanation. Not surprisingly, we never heard back from her. We didn't get any apologies, or any further explanation about a $10 tip increase, nor were we informed whether the dishonest waiter was punished or fired. Disappointing. Salads had too much dressing. Mushroom risotto too salty. Meatballs too mushy and tasteless. Bottled beer selection boring and nothing on tap. Air conditioning too cold and despite multiple tables complaining, they didn't adjust the temp. We have eaten here for at least five years and the food and service are consistently good. The only negative is the a/c system. It is on constantly and blows directly down on the tables. Frequently you will see people in sweaters or coats... And that is in the middle of summer. read more

Living in the Bury for quite some time, I have frequented Amici's and have had little or nothing to gripe about. My girlfriend and I try to make it out every so often, shes loves the Chicken Marsala, I can't get enough of their Fettuccine Carbonara. Their food has yet to disappoint me, it ranges all over the Italian spectrum, but the menu is not overwhelmingly huge and shares none of that super "Amercanized" Olive Garden sort of theme to please the tastes of everyone who walks in the door. The reason for my three star rating is two fold. First, as far as drinks are concerned, they have virtually nothing I care to drink. Spirits are run of the mill, artificially flavored garbage you can find in any chain restaurant, and they carry absolutely nothing as far beer is concerned (unless of course you enjoy drinking watery American lagers all day). There are a few classic Italian wines listed, but it does not change all that often and there isn't a whole lot of variety. Secondly is the service, its never been up to par. Servers usually can't explain to me the particular dishes that I am unfamiliar with, and often I get that "in and out" sort of vibe that most chain restaurants hit you with on busy nights. My most recent visit there was quite unenjoyable. We arrived at 9:25, on a weekday night (not knowing that they closed at 10:00), and were promptly seated, as there was no wait and no one else there. The first words we were greeted with after we sat down by our waitress was not a "Hello," but, "Just so you know we close at 10:00." She said that, and walked away without taking drink orders or informing us of any specials they may have still been running for the day. Now, I happen to work in the service industry, and having been told that at the door, I would have instantly insisted that we leave, knowing everyone was finishing up, wanting to go home, and winding down for the night. I've been in that spot before and it really would not have been a big deal at all, but we were in fact seated, and due to our waitress's attitude I felt uncomfortable for our entire meal. For her to say that the kitchen was closing at 10:00, would have been fine and understandable, but she made it clear that she was going to be done even before the doors lock. Once she took our food orders, I didn't speak to her until our departure, as she had her bus boy drop off our food, check on us, and deliver our bill before we asked for it, quite punctually at 10:00. read more

There are not many seating options for groups (my first visit was for a party of 6), but we some how managed to grab the only booth available at 6 pm on Friday. The menu is much larger than I expected and their family style salad was a perfect size for 6 (we had the extremely tasty winter salad). Their food options included everything from panini sandwiches and pizza to risotto and decadent pasta dishes. Their specials were also amazing. I do like the pizza and lasagna here. Sometimes there is a wait, but nice Italian dishes. They do a good job. The only downfall for me is all their beers are in bottles. They need a few taps with quality offerings. My favorite restaurant ever. The Chicken Parm and the Chicken Toscana are amazing! However, the real winner here is the Pomodoro e Mozzarella salad. It is truly amazing and delicious. We went here for a work lunch. My boss frequents and raved about the food. High noon on a Wednesday. Maybe ten people in the place tops... we waited over an hour for our meal... table of 3. Server blamed it on a new cook. Manager was no where to be found. I ordered pizza well done, it was not. I pointed it out and was told to "look at the bottom" it wasn't well done either nice try. Slow service, food was marginal at best. Nice try but you will never see me back at this hole in the wall nor will I ever recommend it. Crap flows down hill, I blame the management for allowing this. I have eaten here long ago and it was very good. No complaints. I was in the area and needed lunch for take out. I ordered it and got there later than they said it would be ready. I waited there another 25 minutes...I almost walked out because I had to get back to work. The hostess/waitress was extremely rude. You could hear the chef swearing. This restaurant was once my favorite take out place. Tonight I was totally disappointed. I have not ordered there for over a year and wanted to get back. I was disappointed to not find mussels in white wine sauce on the menu. Tonight I ordered 2 items that I have had many times in the past; calamari appetizer and a magherita pizza with prosciutto. The calamari was not the fresh breaded rings and tentacles tossed with chopped cherry peppers served with a tomato based dipping sauce I have had there in the past. What I got was frozen calamari rings with 1 whole cherry pepper and cocktail sauce. The margherita pizza was not the fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil (white) pizza with wide prosciutto strips I have had in the past. It was a tomato sauce and cheese pizza with BACON and some fresh basil sprinkled on top. $10 for frozen calamari rings and cocktail sauce and $18 for a 1 topping pizza? Come on. The fact is the food/service can be great, but quality is inconsistent. The real detriment is the inconsistent performance of the staff varies between excellent and atrocious. The final straw was last night, when I stopped by for an early dinner (usually beats the rush - no crowd normally equals better service). The bar was practically empty and, as usual, the bartender was someone I'd never met before. (That's right - I've never been served by the same bartender more than once at Amici's. Infer what you will.) I always start off with a new bartender by approaching (before being seated) with an open hand extended to introduce myself - always with a smile. This behavior is almost always mirrored in return, resulting in an simple exchange of first names and pleasantries. Not last night. I threw out a hi-how-are-you to get his attention, as he stood with his back to me. I caught him glancing into the mirrored rear wall as if trying to figure out if he could get away with pretending he didn't hear me, but he couldn't fake eye contact. He slowly turns around, sees my extended hand, and grabs a towel as a prop, and proceeds to act like he's drying his hands. If he was hoping I'd pull my hand back and retract the offered handshake, he was disappointed. After an adequate number of seconds passed to make it awkward, he relented, shook my hand, and muttered "Todd". He asked what he could get me and, as politely as could be, I requested a menu and a Sapphire martini (bone dry a.k.a. no vermouth). As I watch him prepare it, I was taken aback to see him grab the vermouth bottle, and quickly got Todd's attention and told him "no vermouth". He put the bottle down, but apparently felt the need to condescendingly share his opinion on on the subject of martinis as he continued to prepare it as I ordered. I quickly scoured the menu as he served the drink, and gently closed and placed it forward in the universal restaurant/bar gesture indicating readiness to order. As I slowly sipped the martini, I watched Todd as the crowd started to slowly trickle in. I made a few attempts at friendly chit-chat, to which Todd could only seem to muster minimal replies. I even attempted the classic "listening test". If I remember correctly, I think the nonsense sentence I uttered was "Did someone get goosed in the street yesterday?" Todd was definitely not listening and replied "right out front". He seemed to be deliberately moving at a snail's pace, except when he was flirting with a pair of female friends seated at the end of the bar. But more surprising was his concerted effort to ignore me. Right down to averting his gaze. I was seated dead center in front of the drink prep/staging mat and I had abandoned the attempts at chit-chat. There was no way he could miss me, as every task had to bring him through or near the center of the bar, and I was looking straight at him every time. Getting toward the end of my martini, I made a last ditch effort to help Todd get a clue, having pushed the menu farther forward, so it actually laid on top of the drink prep/staging mat. The next time he came by, he was sure to take my order, right? Wrong. He pushed the menu off the mat, back towards me, with absolutely no acknowledgment, never looking up. I polished off the last sip of my drink and held my debit card towards Todd the next time he swung by, telling him I wasn't going to have enough time for a meal so let's settle my tab. No apology from Todd. He returns with my card and plops it down with the receipt and a pen. No thank you from Todd either. I suddenly got this strange vibe like Todd wanted me to leave. Had Todd purposely given me lousy service to get rid of me? I noticed the dinner crowd had pretty much arrived, filling the bar area. As I signed the receipt and left the stool to exit, there was no flood of customers jumping to grab the newly open stool. I still can't conceive of how I might have done something to get on Todd's bad side, but it doesn't matter. This was third strike at Amici's - done with them. A shame really since I live less than a mile away and could conceivably had become a "regular", but the inconsistencies add up to push the value proposition into the negative. And Todd, on a scale of 1 to 10, is an @sshole. read more

I'm not sure why I waited so long to write this review...I love this place! My boyfriend and I go to Amici at least once a month, and we're never disappointed. The place is small and intimate, and we always feel welcome. For the nights that we want to enjoy some extra cocktails with our wine, they make great drinks! And the food is fantastic. I'm a huge fan of risotto, and theirs does not let me down. I recommend either the mushroom or the lobster risotto. They also do a great vodka sauce entree. This past week I tried the Chicken Marsala and absolutely loved it! My boyfriend alternates between the lasagna and the chicken parm - both are great. I have been going to Amici's for many years. On a recent evening theee of us wanted Italian food so we decided to go to Amici's as we have had good food in the past. Unfortunately, this night was not as previous dinners. We had three different meals and we were all extremely disappointed. The gravy (sauce) tasted like it came straight out of a can of tomato paste. The waitress did tell us that the gravy was recently changed. Please go back to the old recipe or I'm sure you will lose more than just the three of us as customers. read more

I must say that the mussels appetizer dish is very good. I may even go so far as to say they are quite good. The garlic bread is flat and if you add cheese - boring and dull. We ordered the risotto with pignolas, sundried tomatoes and spinach. It was very good but much too salty. What put the kaibosh to an average meal was the stone we found in the 'Summer Salad'. Unacceptable. We are anxiously awaiting a credit on our visa card after haggling with one of the managers. Again, unacceptable. This woman needs to learn some customer service techniques. When your customer finds a stone in the salad there should be no questions asked. She actually made us feel as if we were not telling the truth. I will update you all on the credit. Very small intimate restaurant, food is wonderful, decent portions for the price. No reservations after around 6:30 so plan ahead. Recommend to take a date or family. I had the veal gnocchi, the sun-dried tomatoes and artichokes together were a bit overwhelming so I wouldn't necessarily recommend that in particular but the different pastas with the garlic cream sauce are great. Skip the breakfast! Figured we'd try it, always like the dinner menu, service, & atmosphere. The breakfast menu had a good amount of choices, but that's where it ends right there! We ordered the Rustic Italian Breakfast & Chocolate Chip Belgian Waffle. The sausage & meatball in the marinara were ok, the scrambled eggs were flat & lifeless. The home fries were soggy. The toast was supposed to be Italian, but 1/2 was regular that was almost burnt. The Waffle was made without any imagination! Chocolate chips placed across top with 2 spots of whip cream. The service was slow and seemed more interested in socializing than serving, and one of the waitresses was the manager. Not sure why, but the next table over got some form of Eggs Benedict & it failed twice. read more
